I just re-read this (sitting here, at 494 on a DD, and I'm not going to eat, but I'm kinda hungry)... and I remember reading it last month, and I do always have in my head that I can go a bit over and no harm done (and even in the Dr J book, he says 100 calories one way or the other won't kill you... I've got to find that page ).

Just knowing that if you need it on a given DD, you're not doing "a bad thing" is SOOO HELPFUL in this WOE.

I know when I travel, sometimes I can't get out of a group dinner. So I can save my calories, and easily eat very little during the day, and a decent LC/LF/LC dinner on 400-700 calories for the day.

And then feel totally righteous after

Thanks for bumping!

Ah yes I am Sophiethecat, I am on my first DD and so mentally ready.

Muffabuff, I will be happy here, and tomorrow is always something to look forward to. Hi Sorenkkg.

I made out a list of what I can have today and how many calories each piece is. In a way this is kind of fun.

I can see a thinner me in the future, so I have a goal to work for that actually seems possible.

With my past dieting I have done I was always ready to give up after a few days. Actually I had given up on all dieting till I found this JUDDD forum.

Sorry for jabbering so much about myself, I am just excited and refreshed!

Abbyshu,

you are where I was a couple of weeks ago.

I could NOT see how this could work...eating what I liked every other day!!! How could this work??? Although I had been willing the scales to move for the last 18 months...JUDDDDing is what has finally lowered the numbers. 2 weeks in and I am 5lbs down

I am loving the DD too. The UDs make the DDs worth it.

I had a break through today. I finally put to rest my WW, Dukan, Atkins and Slimming World books. I think this means that I am LOVING this new WOE

Hi Lexy,

I am liking the WOE too.

It is quite an adjustment to my mind though I am realizing. For so many years that I have low carbed and then gone off, the same 20 pounds up and down. I always have been so free with the oils and butter and all the fats.

Now, I really know what a tablespoon looks like and just how much it costs!

I used a 1/2 tsp of dressing today on my cucumber and made it work.

It's my DD.

I haven't counted calories for years, once I heard about counting carbs, I never counted calories again. It's a new transition for me. Something I should of done all along.

Welcome Everyone!!

LCers who begin eating lots of starchy carbs/sweets (within their DD/UD calorie limits of course) immediately after starting JUDDD are likely to see a bounce UP in weight. It is water being retained as your body adjusts to the new WOE. It goes away as JUDDD takes hold.

But, if that bounce would bother/stress you; or if starchy carbs/sweets are binge triggers for you, I encourage you to continue LCing the first few weeks on JUDDD. Then introduce carbs in small portions. Eventually you really will be able to eat whatever you want.

The special nutrients and fiber in fruit are, I think, very good for most people.

Texas,
Dr J says some people can lose gradually having three DDs/week. Could you do DDs sun-tue-thu and UDs mon-wed-fri-sat? I have done that many times when my lifestyle got intense. It slows my weight loss rate down, but does not stop it.

And 500 cal DDs are fine. Some of us stick at that level and only drop below that on intermittent DDs where we are just not hungry. Over time, you may decide to lower or raise you DD levels. But, at 500 cals, by then you will be filled with sirtuin enzymes that are happy to help you do it.

Please note:
As you read the various threads, do you notice the sense of peace and patience? To me, one of the biggest benefits of JUDDD is the calm, the sense of being in control it gives. (And, yes, IF/Alternate day caloric restriction does release dopamine. And more dopamine = more happy.)

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

This is a great post. So reassuring to know there’s no real harm in adding an extra 100 or so cals on especially hard/hungry days.

Dr. J does say in his book somewhere that 100 calories either way on a DD won't make a difference and I have tested that theory and it doesn't affect weightloss. Just my experience but I liked reading that so in the back of my mind I know if I really get in a bind on DD I can add 100 calories and be alright.

Thanks for this reminder, just what I needed today. I had an extra hungry day yesterday, UD. So I decided to pack extra food (actually, about 100 cals!) for today's DD at work -- just in case. Funny, just knowing I can have it if I really need it is relaxing.

This has been my first week here on JUDDD and so far so good! The DDs have been the easiest part for me, actually. I've stuck with 500 calories. I haven't been counting calories on my UDs, just eating what I want. I was thinking that may need to change, because I'm likely to eat more than I should on those UDs, but so far, I've been surprised by my less than ravenous appetite on those days! Maybe I won't eat the entire house, just because "I can"...
Got Dr. J's book yesterday and am half way through it. Looking forward to finishing that so I understand this better.

I am LOVING this forum! Such supportive, kind people!
Thank you all for sharing your words of wisdom and encouragement with others!

I would encourage anyone concerned about the DDs to look through the stickies here- there are LOTS of good ideas and ways to get the best bang for your calories that day.

I made a huge, filling salad last night for 150 calories. Absolutely delicious and satisfying!

Precisely.

I used some Shiritake noodles with some green chilli, a large mushroom, a single slice of ham, and 2 T of low fat Philly. Add some water and a touch of tomato paste. Delicious and filling for probably 120 calories.

There is so much good info on this page...I was reading here last night and I realized that one reason my loss has somewhat stalled is probably not hitting my calories on the UD...I have to be more careful in listing the calories..I was looking forward to today, an UD..and
wouldn't you know it, I could barely get 350 calories down at breakfast...I can blame my cooking maybe....looks like an Arby's roast beef kind of lunch..sure beats eating my own cooking..
