Giving JUDDD another Go!

I did so well for the first week and lost a little. However, it was a real struggle to stay below 500 calories on the DD and I fell off the JUDDD wagon. I know I didn't give the plan a real fighting chance.

After doing some more reading, (and becoming inspired again by Beeb's weight loss and maintenance! You !), I have decided to give JUDDD another go.

This time, I am going to:
1. Use 700 calories for my DD and 1500 for my UD.
2. Post my weight here every day.
2. Stick faithfully to this for 2 weeks. If at the end of 2 weeks I haven't lose any weight, then evidently this isn't the plan for me and I'll have to try something else.

Today's weight: 148
Goal Weight: 134

Hi, Joan. Welcome back.

When I first started JUDDD I would always do a pretty good job on my DDs until I'd get into the evening, and then I couldn't last it out. I had a lot better luck by starting higher and working my way down to 500 calories, and now I'm maintaining, but still doing (mostly) those very low calorie DDs for the benefits of fasting on health, and I eat at some amazing high-calorie UDs.

Unless you reintroduce a lot of carbohydrate into your previous low carb diet in the first week or two, which will bring back that lost water weight that gets jettisoned when we first start low carb, I don't see why you wouldn't see the scale go down.

Sometimes folks are losing FAT weight from JUDDDing at the same time they are gaining water weight from eating more carbs than before, and those two happenings are canceling each other out on the scale, on what that dial says... so if they know what's happening, it's easier to come to terms with it. Especially if they are losing fat even then.

Sometimes the tape measure tells a truer story of what is going on with your body than a scale does. (Just trying to encourage you not to abandon prematurely, just in case...)

back!! I like your plan of action and I think you will do fine on those calories for maintenance but maybe not for weight loss. The only thing is because the gap is almost 1/2 you may find that the weight comes off much slower or not at than you may expect.

I am wondering if you could up the UDs a bit or maybe lower the DDs to 650 or 600? This may help to really kick the plan in for you. I use your calorie gap % for my maintenance calories and I'm thinking that it may do the same for you with your numbers.

Just a thought.

Thanks for advice, Beebs! I will def. try to lower the cals on my DD (today)

After an UD yesterday (approx. 1500 cals) my weight was the same: 148#.

I am going to shoot for 500 calories today and see how it goes!

Hello, I just joined this forum to find out a little more about the success of JUDDD with low/moderate carbing. I've been having about 30 carbs per day with moderate exercise for over a month but haven't lost much. I actually lost 5 pounds and then without doing anything different that I could tell, I suddenly gained it all back in a week! With more restricted carbs, I've lost a couple pounds but would really like to see some better results.
Do you think JUDDD with a combination of low carb will do the trick? In my skinny days, I had no problem eating less than 1000 calories so although I'm sure it'll be difficult at times, I don't think it'll be too hard for me to eat around 500 calories every other day. People use a lot of abbreviations here, so I've had a hard time figuring out what most people are doing in combination with JUDDD.

Why are the weekends so tough? I do so well during the week and then the weekend comes and I get a snack attack. I'm going to have to lay in a supply of veggies to snack on!

Yesterday was supposed to be a DD, but due to all my snackiness, it turned into another UD

I was scared to hop on the scale this morning, but was pleasantly surprised to see 144.2, down a #! Weird. I am not going to get too excited...because I am finally back down to where I was when I left JUDDD.

Today WILL be a down day! Hopefully a 500 calorie one...but I'm not going to get stressed if it isn't...I'll just do my best!

If you can stick to your DDs for about 1 week or so you will find that they not only get easier but they also help to move that weight off!

I your attitude and I just KNOW you will get that weight moving off in no time!!

OK, here is a thought: I upped my DD calories using a number between the 40% and 45% suggested weight loss/maintenance on the JUDDD site to begin my JUDDD Journey and I did this BECAUSE I KNEW I would fail before I even began with the suggested 500 calories or less. It just scared me and I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to eat what I thought was so little calories. Most days, knowing I had this "extra" mental calorie cushion I never got past 625 calories anyway, but just knowing that cushion was there made all the difference, I feel, in my success.

How about upping your DD calories to 600/650 and see what happens? Maybe, like me, you just need a "mental" cushion to help stay on plan those DDs!

Hi Beeb...thank you for the suggestion.

not doing so hot..but that is what happens when you don't follow the plan as written

So I'm up 2.4# from yesterday~146.4. I wasn't even going to post it in here~just slink off in a corner and give up.

I am going to restart on Friday. Have a good up day for Thanksgiving and follow the plan exactly.

I may have to go back to having the same # of calories every day as I am finding it extremely difficult on the UD not to pig out.

I saw on your profile that you started in Jan 2011 doing Low Carb and then shifted to JUDDD. I am completing the first week of Atkins Induction Phase today although it is a little tough to stick to it especially because tomorrow is Thanksgiving.

Should I just shift already to JUDDD beginning tomorrow so I can enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner or complete Atkins from Phase I all the way to it's last phase for weight loss and shift to JUDD for maintenance?

Hi AlluraBeatu! I am happy to help in anyway I can. Now, I did not start LC in Jan 2011 but actually started Jan 2003 and did LC for about 2 years. Then came back to LC Jan 2010 not Jan 2011, I think you misread this on my profile.

I'm not sure if I can really answer your questions because I was LCing for over 18 months when I switched to JUDDD. The only thing I can say is you need to find a WOE that will fit you like a glove, one that is fairly easy and you enjoy doing. Looking back I never really enjoyed LC because of all the "forbidden" foods with LC. I LOVE JUDDD because the only foods "forbidden" are the ones I CHOOSE not to eat, not that I CAN'T eat. This WOE is my "good" fit, and it's for life, I know

Maybe give LC a chance, at least one month and see what happens. Maybe you will love it or maybe you will not, but unless you give it a chance you will never know.
