What is JUDDD?

Just starting Atkins and have been loving this message board. I have been researching recipes and success stories etc... And saw these threads for JUDDD. I realize it is a lc diet plan but could someone explain what it stands for and the jists of it. TIA

Kelly, I just went to the Judd site and entered my info. It said my down days should be 441. Is that to low? If I tried it, should I just aim for under 500. I could still do LC at best I can with this but it may help cost wise as I have a lot of pantry and freezer items that are not LC friendly but I need to use. We are on a budget. I am just cooking for two now and can't waste the food that I already have. This way of eating sounds doable. I'm going to read some other threads on it. Do you know if there is anyone that blogs about this outside of these message boards? - Thanks - Kristan

WOE: JUDDD!!!
JUDDD is what we call an *alternate day* diet. It is a way of alternating days of fasting with days of feasting... a way that we diet very strictly one day, in exchange for not having to diet at all on the next day! JUDDD stands for Johnson Up Day Down Day.

On JUDDD you can eat any foods in the world that you want to include in your diet. There are absolutely NO lists of required foods, and absolutely NO lists of forbidden foods. Your food choices are completely up to you. You can eat low carb, or you can eat high carb. JUDDD doesn't care. JUDDD is only a plan that regulates the calories you eat at each day.

We can help you get started if you would like to join us in this plan. It's very simple, and very easy to do. And it's very successful at helping us lose weight and bring our bodies back into more normal balance and workings. Many of us experience an increase in our metabolic rate and much happier emotional health. Appetites normalize, and the list of improvements to physical health is very long, as well as the expectation that there may truly be some increase in lifespan from fasting ways of diet.

Just what works for me, and what I've read of the studies over the years. The CRON studies and length-of-life studies are very interesting.

Welcome Cookswithme!

Don't feel you have to start with such low DD cals if you feel it may be a bit difficult.
Many of us started at 600-700 DD, and our recommended UD cals, then gradually lowered the Dd number as our bodies got used to low cals, and we learned which foods filled us up best!

Many of us started doing juddd lowish carb, as that is what we had came from, then gradually began upping them, as we realized that juddd still works it's weightloss magic, regardless of carb level!

I personally upped carbs very slowly, which meant I didn't have a sudden gain in water weight ( tho this in itself is not a problem, it's just water!)
I now do about 100 on an UD, 50 on a DD, and heaven knows on a free day!

Happy Judding!

Jo
