UD today. (TOM due today/anytime, so am hoping that is contributing some to the higher weight.)

Got sick and stopped tracking for a few days

In one week, I have dropped 5 pounds. I know some of that is water weight from the stomach flu, but still - this is the most I have seen the scale move in a VERY long time.

I'm sorry I don't get online as much lately so I missed your question. I came from low carb (atkins) where I had been stuck at the same weight for a couple or more weeks in spite of being under 10 carbs/day. When I started JUDDD I said to heck with it and just went ahead and added carbs back in the way I would expect to eat if I wasn't low carbing. I did this because one of the things that I was impressed with was the fact that people were losing weight and eating things like bread, oatmeal, fruit, cakes, cookies and all those yummy things that I was going to be missing on low carb.

Since starting my Down Days are always under 10 carbs just naturally and my Up Days have been running between 50 and 100 most of the time though they have been up to over 150 a couple of times. By government standards I am still low carb since they seem to recommend 300/day. I'm not watching them as I want to be able to eat what I most naturally enjoy without the carb guilt.

But, a word to those coming from low carb and adding carbs back is that you CAN expect water weight gain at first as your glycogen stores refill. Remember that it is only water NOT FAT that is showing on the scale. The scale went up just over 3lbs for me the first week and it wasn't because of eating enormous amounts of calories ... it was just the normal return of water weight. It took me the whole first week to come back down on the scale but, I can tell you that it was fat that I was losing once the scale came back down and it was very noticeable to me in the way my clothes were (or even better) weren't fitting. After the first week I had to start tying my workout pants string to keep my pants up. So, if you add carbs back don't fret when you see a possible gain on the scales at first. Just give it a little time make sure that you figure the numbers that work for you on your UD/DD and get some help if you need it in figuring them out. There's lots of support here on the board.

This is such a fun thread to read! You guys are really making it work for you, but also, it's interesting to see the ups and downs to scale weight, at the same time I can look back over the days and weeks and see weight going a bit lower, a bit lower as the days go by.

A very inspirational thread.

Hi,
May I join? I have been reading about this and would like to do it. I started with a DD yesterday and kept my calories under 500. Am Type 2 diabetic with no meds and have been on Atkins. Not sure how many calories I should eat on an UP. Probably have to still watch what I eat on UP days to a certain extent. Weigh every day - yesterday - 138.6
Since I am 5'1" maybe 1000 cal? Also walk for exercise.
Goal is 121-125. for now.
