YIKES! LOL!

Okay - I just downloaded ************ for my Droid phone figuring that even though I HAVEN'T counted my calories on my up days all this week (my first week), and still managed to loose 2.5 lbs for the week, that I would probably HAVE to start counting them soon to continue to see losses.

Just to get used to the application, I decided to enter everything I ate today, an UP DAY, and about the same as my other UP days earlier this week.... it's over 3,000 calories!

So...I can't decide if that's an argument for NOT having to count UD calories or just proof of how poorly we DO guess-timate what we're eating!

Very interesting! What is your up day number from the calculator? I suppose you might have lost more than the 2.5 if your calories had been lower. You'll also have to eat fewer calories as you shrink. I would LOVE it if I could eat 3000 calories every Up day! If I were you, I would start counting UD calories, entering your daily weight, and then look for patterns.

Count those calories, just staying at about 3000, and see if your loss continues! No sense in trying to lower them if they are working for you! If you stall out, take them down a few hundred for a week, and so on.
This will keep you with a nice UD/DD difference, and keep your metabolism ticking along briskly!

My UD's are supposed to be around 2100. I've had no problem keeping the DD's to 500-600.

Gonna start being a LITTLE more careful....we'll see what happens....

I'm interested in seeing what will happen, too. I wonder if you weight loss will speed up or stay the same. Keep up posted and I just have to ask this question: What are you kissing in your avatar? It looks like a little monkey, but I'm sure I'm dead wrong here!

LOL @ "Monkey" - but, no, actually it's a little teddy bear. I got married in September, a very casual motorcycle wedding by a lake because both me and my husband ride, and I decided that I didn't want to throw a bunch of flowers that were going to be dead within a few days for the single ladies. So instead, I got a leather-clad Harley teddy bear from Build-A-Bear! I kissed it goodbye before the actual tossing! It was quite a hit!

But I changed my pic now!

Oh - and if you want to track my "progress", it'll all be in the "Daily Weigher - JUDDD" thread I started here. Looks like I'm recovering from that insane day (back down to 186 this morning).....

There was ONE main culprit that day.....an evil dip I make for strawberries, that isn't all THAT awful per serving - but I ate the whole damned batch!!!!

but if your DD's are super low, your big UD may still average out to your daily intakes requirements, won't it? if your daily average is 2100...that's 4200 over 2 days...if your UD is 3000, and your DD super low, then you are still coming in at less than your daily cals of 2100? am i wrong here?

whoa - wait!

My DAILY average isn't 2100. My UP DAYs are 2100. Coupled with a DD of 500, that's 2600 over two days.....or a daily average of 1300....

ohhh...see this is where i think i get confused. when i figure my DAILY maintenance cals in livestrong, i get 1860. that's what i would eat everyday if i weren't JUDDD'ing. so wouldn't one naturally think that over 2 days i would eat 3720 cals? so on JUDDD, i would split that up into an UD and a DD. am i totally misunderstanding the premise of JUDDD? i mean, if i weren't doing JUDDD i would assume i would eat 1860 everyday to maintain my weight....right?

more thoughts....

so then if i wanted to lose weight eating everyday (not JUDDD) i would lower that 1860 to say 1500/day (i know this would cause slower loss, but still a calorie deficit). on JUDDD, that would be 3000 over 2 days. and i would split that up to UD and DD. so 300-400 on a DD, 2600-2700 on an UD. still only 3000 cals over 2 days like i would if i ate 1500 each day. i would still be ending up with a calorie deficit at the end of the week.

is this totally wrong thinking?

Hang on - lemme get my calculator!

Let's use MY numbers as an example:

(First of all, I don't want to maintain - I want to lose)

My numbers show 1300ish calories per day for weight loss.

Double that is 2600 for TWO days.

Starting with a DD goal of 500, 2600 - 500 = 2100 left remaining for my UP to make the average of the two days 2600.

There's a sticky thread on the JUDDD board with 3 calorie calculators. I did all 3 and got 3 very different numbers and averaged them to come up with the 1300 per day for weight loss....

SO. I'm assuming your daily caloric intake amount of 1860 is incorrect....try those calculators and see what you come up with.

Or post your weight and height so I can do it for you!

I'm not sure but I'm sure Pat will kick in here to answer better. BUT being in maintenance I eat 2,700 spread over 2 days, which would be 1,350 calories a day: 800/900 for DDs and 1,800/1,700 on UDs. I can't imagine eating more than that and still keeping my weight where it is. Fat Secret tells me to maintain I need to eat 1,800 calories a day, which would equal 3,600 over 2 days.

This ^^^ would never work for me! I would gain weight like crazy eating 1,800 calories a day. I think we still need the calorie gap that JUDDD gives us and we still need to keep those calories at a good place for us to keep the weight off. At least that is how I think it works.

i'm at 131.2 -- light activity. i just recalculated my livstrong...the 1860 is to maintain. but even if i dropped that to 1500 DAILY that would still be 3000 over 2 days and would still yield a total calorie deficit of 2520 over the course of a week. which is obviously less than a pound a week, but still a deficit.

i plugged in "lose a pound a week" and got 1364 for DAILY intake. which would be 2728 over 2 days...so on JUDDD i would do 300-400 DD, 2428-2328, UD.

does that look right to you?

but why would you gain if 1800 cal is your maintenance cals? why couldn't you spread the 3600 over 2 days in a n UD/DD fashion...1000-1200, DD; 2400-2600, UD (or however you would want to spread it)....there is still a calorie spread and you are still in your maintenance calories of 1800/day.

ok...i went back tot he JUDDD site calc. it gives me about the same daily cals as livestrong, but there spread over 2 days does not equal 2 days of eating at that the normal day cal level....i think i get where i'm going wrong here...lol...i'm not figuring a % of the "normal" cal level. so the goal is NOT to eat a UD/DD so that the total of those 2 days would be as if you were eating the same level each day. boy this hard to articulate in written form.

Do you exercise A LOT?

Your math is right - I think the confusion is that you're getting such a high daily rate of 1800/1900.... (JUDDD's site is usually high for most people)

I came up with an average between 3 sites of 1295 calories a day for you to lose weight.

So 2 days would be 2590 cals. Deduct the DD amount of 400, and that leaves you 2190 for your UD....

lol...i don't exercise at all...BUT, the livestrong site says to choose light exercise if you are on your feet all day and walking around in your day to day stuff, so that is why i chose that. and actually the JUDDD and livestrong are about the same for a maintenance daily cal level to maintain...1840.

soooo....for a recap... (are you totally sick of me yet? )

livestrong says to eat 1364 EVERY day to lose 1lb/wk. total 2 day calories = 2728

so to JUDDD this i would do:

DD 400
UD 2328

total of 2728 over 2 days

right? totally off base?

Yes - and then you just want to keep the spread between the UD's and DD's as wide as you can and still be do-able.......I'm starting at 500 for my DD's and that will be the FIRST thing I adjust (downward) if my results aren't good, rather than decreasing my UP calories...

And go look at the JUDDD Daily Weigh / Tracker thread for some more insight on how people are managing their numbers and what kind of success they're having with them.

And then JOIN that thread so I can keep an eye on you.....

heehee....thank you for putting up with my temporary insanity...

i actually IF on my DDs so i could probably get away with even less than 400 on my DDs but there's that "pesky" thing called the family meal in the evening... i could get by with just a couple eggs and one sausage link (207 cals) for my one evening meal on DDs but don't want to create too many questions with the kids...i mean they know i eat weird anyway... ...but you know how it goes.

i'm going to only be weighing after DDs once i get back into the swing of things. so may only be an EOD poster on your thread if you'll have me?
