Does glucomannan just suck the flavor out of everything?!!
I've tried using glucomannan twice now;
I added it to a cup of chicken broth which tasted just fine before, then like BLAH after; same with a cup of chocolate protein. I was really looking forward to using this to feel full on DDs, but it's not really working since I had to "salvage" my snacks by adding lots more stuff (and calories) to replace the flavor. Does it help if you let the concoction sit for a while? Anybody else have this problem? ![]() Last edited by piratejenny; 11-10-2011 at 09:47 AM.. |

I find that it does suck the saltiness and sweetness out of stuff. I tend to add more hot sauce/herbs/salt/pepper/sweetener until it tastes right again. I really noticed it yesterday when eating the noodles in a bowl of soup -- suddenly it was really blah!

Way too much time on my hands!

I think it's a lot the same thing as how we're told that the magic shirataki noodles *take on the flavor of whatever they're put into*..... yeah, by sucking up some of that flavor!
![]() I also just add in some additional flavoring ingredient. Or accept it *as is* for the blessing of a full tummy on practically no calories. |

I find that the longer it sits, the less flavour it has. I overflavour anything that is going to sit awhile (e.g. pudding)--if I make a superlow OMM or a shake --something I am going to eat right away, it seems to be ok--You do have to totally jazz it up tho!

I have grown to love glucomannan. It halts my appetite like nothing else. Plus, I don't know if I'm allowed to post links and I hope I don't get in trouble, but you've got to read this blog about glucomannan: http://www.begin2dig.com/2010/01/glu...s-satiety.html. The links to studies done on gluco really impressed me.
I agree with all the above. You've got to add a lot of sweetness/savory ingredients, more so than you'd normally add. But I don't mind at all. Glucomannan is the first diet aid I've REALLY become excited about. It works. I just wish I had the time to try all the wonderful recipes I'm finding on this site that use gluco. |

putthekettleon, you can usually post links as long as the site doesn't sell anything. |
