has this happened to you?

So I noticed that on my updays, it seems like my body almost gets "sugar rush" type symptoms from all the calories. Its not like I am eating high carb meals or anything, I have just noticed feeling like my metabolism is on fire, I am hot and almost jittery. I've never had blood sugar problems or anything, so maybe sugar rush is a poor way to describe it, just the best I can think of. Yesterday I was just burning up, and yes I am normally hotter (I wish this referred to how my body looks:hyst:) on days I exercise, but these last up days have seemed more than usual. Just curious if this is happening to anyone else, and what it might mean.

Hot flashes??

sophiethecat 11-01-2011 08:45 AM

I don't know  Could it be thyroid activity?

I definitely feel a bit more jittery (not sure if that's the right word, really, but it's the best one that I can find) on UDs. I assumed that I would feel that way on DDs, but on those days I just feel kind of mellow.

I just came off my 3rd DD. I know what you mean about jittery. It's an odd feeling. It's not caffeine-related as I haven't any coffee since yesterday at 4pm.

I don't have the hotness, though. How long have you been doing JUDDD? I'm curious if it's an induction thing or a long-term consequence.

I'm not sure where I read it (maybe on the boards somewhere?), but I think someone said you could get those particular blood sugar-like symptoms if you stretch your stomach w/food. Basically, "overeating" (at least, in your stomach's mind) could trigger an insulin reaction. At least, that's what I took the explanation to mean.

I've had similar episodes before on just LC. I'd eat a regular, VLC meal, but I'd feel stuffed. Then, I would become uncomfortably hot, I'd break out the next day, etc. This was when I avoided sugar like the plague too.

I will be interested in hearing if this feeling goes away or moderates as the days go by. Although I have never felt anything akin to what you describe that I would ever lay onto my food choices or how I ate, I'm not saying your diet choices couldn't be behind this happening to you.

In addition to following the calorie cycling, have you changed your food choices when you started JUDDD?

So I am thinking it might have been a couple of things that day. I am sometimes unusually hot after a good gym session, so that may have contributed to it, as well as I think I ended up a little bit dehydrated.

It really felt like when you hit the 3rd trimester of pregnancy and your metabolism is at its peak and you are hot all the time. So maybe my metabolism is revving up?

Also it could have been hormones, they still seem to come and go in odd ways since I am nursing the baby. Ahhh womanhood...the many mysteries.

I had a really good up day today, with no such feelings, but I am on a rest day from the gym and my husband injured his foot so we haven't been taking the kids on walks in the evenings, so my activity level has been slightly lower the last 2 days. So we'll see what tomorrow brings if I get to the gym, although tomorrow is a down day.

I am having that happen to me as of today it started. I usually don't jog on the treadmill , or , I haven't in a while . Yesterday I did it for a few miles , I feel this am like I am speeding. I haven't even had a whole lot of coffee either.I drink a few cups in the am to get started and I didn't need much today . I also had this happen when I was going through induction in the very beginning. I had high energy levels, real high lol! It sorta freaked me out too . not used to that kind of energy. When I don't do my exercises, I don't have this .
Lol, I made some coconut bark yesterday n I don't know that I want any today lol! chocolate and coconut oil. lol!

I didn't experience anything like you describe and haven't heard others mention it. I've been thinking about it and now wonder if it could be anything like a *reverse induction flu* ?

We don't bat an eye when we hear of people feeling a lot of negative and unpleasant side effects and symptoms when they start a very low carb diet. I wonder if some of us might experience some reaction to this as well? Did you add back in some carbs you weren't used to or anything?

Are you directing this message to me?

Majella 11-03-2011 02:44 PM

Hello there, I have felt this at times too and I really get flushed and I only started having it after I started my thyroid medication for my under-active thyroid. But it only happens to me after huge gaps between meals and caffeine will do it too :) I'm glad it's not just me though!!

YES YES YES I have felt this too. To me its like over and above energy like my body is revving up. And now on DD I get soo cold. I think its less food.. I dont know.
I kinda like the rush feeling because I have a low thyroid and I have experienced low enery. Since I have started JUDD I seem to have more energy than I have had in years. Seriously I dont think low carb has been good for my thyroid. I remember a gal on Low Carb Friends (NON Stick Pam) I think that was her name say you have to increase carbs if your thyroid dont work. OMG sorry I am rambling and got off subject. oops:o
