I used the 35% loss and exercise 3-5 days a week, and it gave me 2041 and 714. Are we supposed to use our goal weight?

Sophiecat, how long did you JUDDD before you switched? You and pirate jenny seem to be having great MUDDD results and I was just wondering if it was bc you both did 2 weeks of JUDDD before switching...

I miss being able to exercise on DDs and it's only my 3rd DD! LOL. I'm planning to up my calories to about 700-800 in maintance and then I could do a *little* exercise (I hope)

good luck to the MUDDDers out there
Have you tried to exercise on your DD's?
I have to, due to scheduling, and I find as long as I have something filling b4, and a snack for as soon as I am done...I am fine.
Yes, I am a little more hungry whilst exercising, but nothing I cant handle.
Of course, I do like exercising on UD's better! ( I get to snack on nuts, rather than carrot sticks, after my workout!)

I do 45 mins cardio, and about 40 mins fixed weights...3 x a week.

SoHappy and others recommend the goal weight rather than the current weight. If your weight loss is going well, then of course stick with what's working! But if you'd like to see some changes, you might want to use your goal weight.

Good Morning MUDDDer's!

This morning has been uneventful. Started the day with coffee/fat free half/half, 55 minutes of Leslie Sansane Walk Away the Pounds, then my usual handful of vitamins washed down with Danactive Immunity drink. I have a banana handy, just in case.

Lunch will consist of potato soup approx 600 calories, then back to a DD for dinner.

Guys, I think I'm going to go back to regular JUDDDg and save MUDDDg for various times (maybe a weekend now and then or a day when I need more flexibility than regular JUDDD ) but right now my schedule has become switched back around to regular JUDDD.

Some observations -

I did stick to my DD calorie limits very easily on MUDDD.

If one took my calorie totals for each part of a MUDDD day and looked at it like it was JUDDD (dividing day by sleep), I was getting 600 or less calories on DD (usually much less - like half) and 1700 on UD or less (sometimes like 600 calories less). I found myself not eating much more than 1100 calories on an UD evening and then not being hungry enough the next day to get in the required 1700 calories before it was time to start DD. Again, it's the way my natural hunger works. So I was having less of a spread between DD and UD calories than I thought I would, just due to my appetite suppression.

I want to get a wide swing in those calorie amounts for best health results. But I do think I still kept my metabolism guessing because each day there was a period of heavy eating and then relatively no eating.

I love how flexible MUDDD is and how it works so well with my natural eating & hunger.

It made me pay more attention to how I eat and when. It got me thinking about WHY I can't make DD calories on a regular JUDDD DD last better throughout afternoon and evening, and what I can do to change that.

For one thing, on regular DD, the naturally low fat foods I'm eating aren't giving me much appetite suppression and so I feel hungry at least every 2 hours. But if I could eat some food, then try to go a longer time between eating (sip salty beef broth for example) that would save more of those DD calories to eat just before bed, when I need them the most.

I needed to make today a full UD after all with the Halloween stuff going on, and I think I'll just make tomorrow a DD and go on with regular JUDDD.

This has taught me a lot, I'm glad I tried it, and I encourage anyone to try it! I thank Pirate Jenny for bringing it to us I didn't stick with the experiment nearly as long as I intended, but this has been a great thing for me. I reached goal on MUDDD, after all!

I know JUDDD is the best woe ever, and one of the awesome things about it is how flexible it is. We can JUDDD and MUDDD and ZUDDD and anything else

Good luck everyone, and I'll continue to watch this thread and post when I do any MUDDDing

Kelly, you don't have to stop MUDDD. You and anyone else can certainly keep up with this This is still basically JUDDD, just a 24hr schedule. Lots of people out there probably do this regularly or on occasion, like I will.

Hey everybody--my power has been out since Saturday.
I have a well, an electric cook stove, and a pellet stove that needs electricity to run,
so this means no water and no heat as well.
Luckily, a couple years ago I got smart and bought a campstove!
So I can cook a little bit but it's not much fun with no running water.

I'm at the library using the computer for a few minutes.

I'm still MUDDDing and very happy. Even with the power out, I've been able to stick to the DDs pretty well. Last DD was 470 calories.
But I don't know about the next couple of days, if the power doesn't come back on.
Getting to the point of being very cold all the time, very bored, and wanting to eat some of this food before it goes bad. I know I don't HAVE to...but there's nothing much else to do!

Yesterday I also saw a low weight of 281.0!!!
The lowest I'd been in 2011 was 282.something...back in the 1st week of January.
My lowest in 2010 was 280.0.
I'm going to be so excited to see ANYthing under 280!!!
I feel like I'm traveling back in time!

on the weight loss, PJ! And sorry to hear about your power out - when we didn't see you on here all weekend, I just assumed you were out having a wonderful, activity-filled weekend Glad you were able to pop in for a bit! Hope they get that power back on asap!

Power is finally back on!

There were a few days I didn't weigh because it was too cold to take my clothes off.
I've been sick the last couple days and have sort of lost track of what I'm supposed to eat.
I'll just sort of do medium days until my appetite comes back.

But anyway...it may have been the fever burning everything off, but I went down from
281.0 on 10/31 to
280.6 on 11/03 to
277.2 on 11/04!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a big WOO HOO accomplishment! You are doing such a good job.

I knew you were in the power outage area, but didn't even think about how cold it would be as a result of that this time of year. I wonder if that isn't what made you sick these lase couple days. Hope you're feeling better soon.

So happy and glad you're back! And so tickled to read your great weight loss news!

I'm back to MUDDDg, at least temporarily.

I'd said before I'd do it again if I wanted, and it's almost become a necessity after the last 10 days because with the Tgiving dinners (plural!) and all the other events and other special occasions one day after another, I haven't been able to stick to my DD calories properly, and I can already see that's not going to change tomorrow either with what I have going on.

So rather than wreck my JUDDD "fasting" results (the health benefits) I am switching to MUDDD, at least for a few days. It will already kinda fit how I've eaten today and even yesterday, so I consider myself already MUDDDg.

MUDDDing works great with consecutive days of going out/visiting friends/holidays feasts!

WOE: JUDDD for life, baby!!
Start Date: Feb 2009; RESTART: Nov. 2011 as EX-LCer
PJ and Sophie--plz keep posting your results--I am intrigued w/this plan, as I have just found this thread today!!
My head is spinning from reading all the "math," but, I will keep checking in and possibly try MUDDDing for a bit. I would think it might work better for me; we ALWAYS have some social event that includes eating come up unexpectedly.
OKAY--so my DD cals are 500 and my UD cals are 1700. So my question is: if I start my "day" at 3 PM on Mon, do I eat 500 cals from 3 PM Mon til 3 PM Tues, and then consume 1700 cals from 3 PM Tues til 3 PM Wed? Is that how it works? I'm SOOO sorry I'm confused--I'm sure you already answered this question in some other form on this thread, but I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. Thanks!!

Yes, you can do that!
Easy & simple!

However--I do try to leave a little "gap" of 2-4 hours between my Up Day and my Down Day
(I don't worry so much about Down Day to Up Day).
This is so I start my Down Day on an empty stomach.
For example, my start/end time is usually 5pm.
So I'll eat my Up Day calories from 5pm today until 1pm tomorrow.
Then I'll start my Down Day at 5pm.
That gives me 4 hours to digest my last Up Day meal.

If that is too confusing right now, just do what you said!
This is a work in progress with no scientific studies to back it up
so just see what works for you!

Also, if something comes up unexpectedly, I don't sweat it if I had already had an Up Day and the next meal is supposed to be "Down".
I enjoy that meal and make my next 2-3 meals my Down Day (whatever works best for getting back to my pattern).

And, if I had special dinners planned for 2-3 days in a row, I would eat "Down" for (or skip) breakfast and lunch those days, then go back to the pattern.

Hope that helps without confusing things more!

BTW--I saw TWO new lows today!
Weight loss has been slow for about the last 3 weeks, but I was pretty sick for a while and then ovulation time happened (always have some temp weight gain),
then a week or so of mystery, then pre-TOM...
I've been losing a pound or less per week, sort of frustrating after a bangin' start!
However, this morning I saw a new low of 275.4!
THEN, this afternoon after a Down Day and a walk with a neighbor and a bizarre number of potty trips (just #1, though!!! )
and a nice-sized dinner at my neighbor's of salad and venison stew w/noodles,
I weighed again and saw 274.6!!!

Breaking 275 is very exciting!
And going to bed weighing the same as or less than I did in the morning--
I'm pretty confident I'll see a loss tomorrow!
As long as I don't have an attack of insomnia and eat all night!

Hmm...

In the book, Dr. Johnson talks about all the health and weight-loss (and weight maintenance) benefits of activating the SIRT-1 gene (I think that's the name, I'm relying on memory here, a post-menopausal memory ).

You need the 36-hour "fasting" period to accomplish this.

So the 24-hour variation on JUDDD might be a good way for you to handle calorie control, but I don't think you'll get all of the benefits of the DD this way. For instance, I don't think you'd be able to increase your calorie levels during maintenance... and you won't get all the anti-inflammatory benefits of the SIRT-1 gene activation.

Anyone else know more about this?

Cynthia

We've already been through that a few times on this thread.

If you or anyone else is really interested in the topic, perhaps a new thread on it could be started,
so I don't have to keep defending my "experiment" over and over? Thanks.

Sorry. I didn't mean for you to have to "defend" anything.

I thought I was sharing relevant information. I thought this was a discussion and I intended to share an idea that relates to the topic under discussion.

I didn't see the SIRT-1 gene discussed anywhere in the thread. Sorry if I missed it.

I wish you the very best in your experiment, of course.

Please forgive me. It seems I've offended you... That was not my intent.

If you search "gene" on this thread, a few posts come up...with alternate spelling of "SIRT1"

I may have said this 2 or 3 times already on this thread, but...
the original mouse study that activated the gene was 24hrs eating/24 hours fasting.
Does Dr J actually say that humans need 36 hours fasting, or that it's more effective than 24 hours?
Or is that just a schedule he came up with because he thought it would be more practical?

If 24 hours activates the gene, then why "white-knuckle" through 36 hours of hunger?!
ETA:
Also, is there any way to tell when our SIRT1 gene is turned on? A blood test or a stick you pee on?

This thread hasn't been very active lately, so if you really want to get a discussion going, I think you'd have better luck with a new, more specific thread.

But, if y'all want to discuss it here, go for it!

--Sorry that I seemed offended.
I was just trying to be concise and not go through my explanations again.

Hi Cynthia I don't think we've "met" on the forum yet - I'm not on here as often as I used to be, with so much going on lately in "the real world" Glad to meet you.

It's so ironic you brought this 36 hour/sirt1 gene discussion up today because I was just thinking on the same topic, and I'm glad you brought it up. It was somewhat of a concern for me as well, but I've been looking it up on google, and found information that seems to confirm a 24 hour fast is also beneficial for the health benefits and activating the gene. It goes by alternate-day fast, intermittent fast, alternate day calorie restriction, and maybe other names.

It is a relief to be back to muddd with all the constant things going on - what seems like day after day that keep throwing me off schedule. This way is very flexible.

I will update on how I feel as I go along too, if I keep eating this way through the new year. I always get a certain clarity and "pleasant alertness" on regular DD, so hopefully that feeling will carry over now and I will know the inflammation is still being kept at bay.
