Great point Pat. I agree, it is still possible to lose since it is low calorie and yes it is very true, it is better then abandoning JUDDD altogether. I wish all those that are MUDDDing great days ahead.

Hey everyone that posted your calculations and thoughts on this, thank you!! I understand the math, but I will have to see how it plays out in my real life. I'm not sure how the bunching together of calories at certain times will effect results, but I will definitely keep everyone updated on my experiment.

The best thing so far has been that I had plenty of calories for eating before bed on DD, which I needed. Plus, it has worked so far with my natural non-hungry times in the a.m. Usually I don't eat breakfast, and have always been this way.

I do a changeover at 3 p.m... will post here more later.

It's 1 p.m. finally got around to stripping off my toasty layers and weighing myself and I'm at 146 on the scale! I could almost cry tears of joy - haven't seen this weight in over a year! It's probably because my stomach is so empty from DD eating, but yet it is afternoon and usually I weigh more this time of day, so perhaps 146 is about right.

Edited to add: I LOVE JUDDD!!! Low carb never gave me results anything like this! It's like JUDDD has given me back my old, great metabolism, where I could lose with relative speed & ease! I was beginning to wonder if those days were over, but hello restored metabolism!

Interesting read!!
I was cross-eyed at first but I got it.

I think I may give it a go but I only just started JUDDDing.
I feel like I should at least give that an honest shot?
But I think 'MUDDD,' would work better for me and allow more gym days which is my passion and keeps me sane.
MUDDD'ing would allow for better recovery.

For ex..today is my DD and I still haven't even eaten yet!!
have a big pot of veggy soup ready to dig into though. And then I can have an UD dinner with my family and into tomorrow afternoon continue UDing..and then have a DD dinner through the afternoon the next afternoon??

That sounds right to me.

How often do you work out? I was doing 6 days a week for 45 to 60 minutes alternating cardio and strength and getting nowhere. I think I will pull back to 5 days and see if that helps. Perhaps I was over stressing my body, or is there any such thing?

Yeah, Betty, that's what I thought too when I first read it. I just started JUDDD and trying to grasp the concept then reading Pirate Jenny's method had my head spinning. But this way I think will work better for me schedule wise and hopefully I will still lose weight. I felt my body needed to be shaken up with something new besides 10 yrs of LC'ng. I was long past the golden opportunity that new LC'ers have. This is my 1st day of Mudding. DD till 3:00 p.m. - then a bountiful evening of food.

No, I do no exercise, other than grocery shopping and the usual "around the house" things.

I did Callanetics in August and Sept with GREAT results, but then when I got more busy I let it go - mistake! I know I would feel even better with exercise, so I need to get back into it.

Me too. In November, it'll be 2 yrs of quitting smoking. I gained 5 lbs right off the bat and have only been able to lose 2 of those 5 lbs in over a year even going VLC. Not a very good reward for doing your body good.

I had my last UD meal around 1:30 yesterday and ate first DD meal at 6 p.m.

Here's an update:

In my DD eating since yesterday, I've had 310 calories. None were eaten since I got up today. I started getting hungry a little while ago, but thought what the heck - an hour or so to go and it's UD eating so I'll just wait.

310 calories! I don't think I could have done a DD like this normally, not without clonking myself in the head to get to sleep at night, at least!

I haven't been sniffing peppermint or anything, it's just that this schedule works the best with my natural hunger patterns

I'm pretty excited I can do JUDDD this way and I'll keep the experiment going and see how I feel.

UD eating in 30 min - whoo hoo!

WooHoo Sophie We seem to be very similiar in our eating patterns and so far, so good, it's working out fantasic for you. I'm gonna have homemade Meatloaf for dinner tonight. I have 650 calories to work with. I shouldn't be hungry when I go to bed tonight and neither should you!

How many calories will you be having on your high days, and how many will that give you for your low days?

I think there are more restaurants even that are offering meals for 500 calories. Doesn't Olive Garden advertise that?

I don't know what I am doing wrong but I have had my 1200 calories that count toward my up day and I am already hungry! I start down day at about 4:30pm. and want to keep it at about 200 cals. I wonder if I am exercising too much? I have been busy and trying to distract myself until dinner. I guess I will look for one of the filling veggie soups to have for dinner.

I'm going to try MUDDD starting today. More like Up meals and Down meals rather than UD and DD's. I'm basing it on 500 DD and 2000 UD's and dividing those separately by 3 as a basis. If I'm thinking right, the hard part will be eating 1320 calories before 3:00 p.m. every other day. (660 x2) = 1,320. It'll be easier for me to do that in the evening when my hungry switch goes on.

It'll roughly mean calorie-wise: 1530 calories every other day and 950 calories every other day.

Good point, Pat - to get me knowing that it will be different than JUDDD with the 500 vs 2000.

Yeah, I see more an more restaurants doing the 500 calorie meals. But it's usually food I don't want

I train with weights 4x a week. I don't do much cardio aside from walking/biking on the weekends or in the Summer during the evenings when I just feel like it. I've mostly let diet take care of the deficit for fat loss. I've tried adding in more cardio but never saw any change. And I dreaded every minute of it
I did notice the more cardio I did the hungrier I was though.

But now I have two bum knees and am very limited by what I can anyway. The deficit has to come from somewhere!

Your feeding periods will alternate more on the 1000/1500 calorie rotation it looks like.

I identify with your body being little hungry in the early part of the day but far more hungry in the later part and evening hours. That's my own body clock too. I can easily skip breakfast and not start eating until midday, but even when I have a good supper, I'd like a solid evening snack a bit later.

I also identify with the ex-smoker folks here. And the resulting weight gain! I smoked from ages 18 to 58 years, and loved every cigarette of that time, but knew it was a terrible and disgusting habit, stinking and expensive, so finally stopped a decade ago. Best decision I ever made, but MAN! For quite awhile there you are hungry for something. Even long after you aren't aware of wanting a cigarette, you are driven to crave.... something. So, it must be a beef and cheddar sandwich, right? I gained more weight then too.

Thanks, Jeanie

I wonder have you adjusted your calories on the JUDDD calculator to make sure you're eating enough for your exercise level?

The more you exercise, particularly anything cardio, you are definitely going to work up an appetite and your body will want to be re-fueled.

Isn't JUDDD suppose to turn on that SRT1 (sp??) gene? I'm thinking that MUDDD is great if it works for you, but maybe it should wait out the 2 weeks until you've got that gene clicked on.

Sophiecat, how long did you JUDDD before you switched? You and pirate jenny seem to be having great MUDDD results and I was just wondering if it was bc you both did 2 weeks of JUDDD before switching...

I miss being able to exercise on DDs and it's only my 3rd DD! LOL. I'm planning to up my calories to about 700-800 in maintance and then I could do a *little* exercise (I hope)

good luck to the MUDDDers out there

Thank you, Jo!

It really hasn't sunk in yet that I'm this close. I've been trying to lose these extra 25 - 30# or so since about the middle of June and that seems so long ago. The weight crept off on lower carb/LC but now on JUDDD, 4 pounds flew off in a week?? And I'm close to goal, so I never expected a loss that big this late in the game, lol.

Sophie - all I know is I have been doing "everything" right and it's not working, so I am going to give MUDDD a try and pull back the exercise.

Deanne - congrats on meeting your goal! I am such a exercise junkie, I can't even imagine not doing "something" on DD days. I hope it helps you.

Hi Hockeygal, come to think of it, I had been doing JUDDD the regular way for a full 2 weeks before starting this alternate schedule.

I wonder have you adjusted your calories on the JUDDD calculator to make sure you're eating enough for your exercise level?

The more you exercise, particularly anything cardio, you are definitely going to work up an appetite and your body will want to be re-fueled.
Hmm. I had read that the JUDD calculator seemed to suggest higher cals than most were comfortable with, so I calculated 1-3 days of exercise instead of the 6-7 days that I actually do. 2000 cals for maintenance is what it tells me and for a 50 yr. old barely 5'1 lady that seems too high??

Hi-I just put those numbers into the JUDDD calculator, using your goal weight, and it told me 1709 cals for your maintenance. (I checked because I'm a similar age and goal weight, but 5 inches taller, and it told me 1748 cals for maintenance, so I was surprised at your 2000 cals)

You all are doing great! It's nice to see your enthusiasm!
