Today is a DD for me too, so we'll be peppermint sniffing together!

I am sniffing away this morning........I hope to put off eating as long as I can today. I have a dental appointment this morning, and then hope to do a bit of shopping. I will try to remember to bring the peppermint oil with me . I am considering using it on my UD's too in hopes that I will remain in control.

Me too! What does it say about me that I latched right onto this for Down Days when I read about it in the newspaper, but it didn't occur to me that it might be helpful on Up Days too. Is that telling me I don't want anything to interfere with my BIG eating on my UDs?

Drat! I went to get my bottle of peppermint oil - unopened in the cupboard for years, and saw it's imitation. I opened it and sniffed - there is a hint of peppermint but mostly the smell of alcohol. I don't think it's going to work

The only other flavor oils I have are banana and coconut and somehow I don't think smelling those are going to curb my appetite any

If someone walks by and reeks of peppermint fumes, I will know I have just witnessed another JUDDDer in the throes of a DD.

I can see it now - a new condition turns up in the medical books - people presenting to their doctors with irritated nasal passages due to peppermint inhalation

I would say day one of the experiment is a success! I am at 235 calories so far, and typically by this time I would be at 500 done for the day, and having a rough evening. I was gone alot toay, so I am not sure if that had a hand in it too, being busy. My peppermint did travel with me and I did sniff, LOL. I am going to use it tomorrow on my UD with the purpose of it helping me stay in control. I WILL eat my UD calories, just hoping better choices.

I think I've had some luck with it, but not specatacular like some of you ladies. I think I'm going to try the grapefruit oil for a few days, and see if that's more effective for me. Besides, I'm pepperminted out for now.

I do have snickers flavor oil to add to lip balm. It doesn't smell though.

I ended up at 710 calories for my down day, but, I am not giving up on the peppermint experiment. The evenings are always harder for me. I am probably going to up my DD's in prep for my surgery anyway, focusing on extra protein. My extra calories last evening came from a rib eye steak and 2% greek fage yogurt. It was a good use of calories.

This is a really old thread I was reading. Just a bump up to chat about this cause now I am interested.


Anyone do this now?

I googled info on peppermint oil as curbing appetite. alot of info out there on the net but of course I was more curious if anyone on the forum is doing this now and DOES it really work?

I use it for headaches, but of course I'm nauseated then so never noticed any appetite suppression. I rub it on my temples but it can burn a bit. I would not get the pure peppermint oil too close to your nose or eyes. It is very strong.

Never worked for me and I have plenty of peppermint essential oil since I use it to make soap and peppermint foot lotion. Wish it did.

Hmmm...I love peppermint tea...i remember when i quit smoking (27 years ago!) i drank peppermint tea constantly. i couldn't do caffeine or alcohol, both made me crave cigarettes, so peppermint tea was great to keep my hands and mouth busy...

Funny, my mom (whose body type I did NOT inherit!) was always very thin - in fact, she really was malnurished when she was older. Her diet consisted of tea, toast and peppermints. She never wanted to cook for herself - she ate to live instead of being like me - I live to eat!

Thanks for bumping this thread. I just took my first sniff of peppermint oil. I always keep peppermint oil in the house as it works great for repelling ants. They usually come in the summer and like my kitchen and the peppermint oil works like a charm- they run away as fast as they came.

I am also going to drink peppermint tea today

I hope the peppermint experiment will work!

OK if you are trying it then today when I hit the store I am buying a bottle of peppermint oil and start whiffing.

I will really start sniffing later today and for at least a week. then I can say whether it has any true effect on me

will be very interesting!! best one can do is try it and see right?
