Have you noticed a weight gain starting JUDD after lcing?
I am tired of being in limbo w/my weight..So I am looking into this - the only thing that scares me is the carbs, and being able to eat whatever you want w/moderation of course. It's just scccaaarrrryyy to me..

Hi Joflora!!

No, I lost weight right after starting JUDDD. Within four days, I'd lost 3 pounds.

At first I was scared about all the foods too and suspicious of carbs, but I got over that really fast! Some people do continue to monitor those things, but I found I was able to tolerate many carbs each day on JUDDD.

Oh, Hon. Absolutely.

If you are going to start including more carbs in your diet, you are going to have to give back some of that water weight loss that you experienced when you first started doing very low carb.

But that doesn't mean much. The scale can tell you what you weigh, just standing there on it. That's your fat and your muscles and your bones and the blood in your veins and the water weight which is stored with some carb fuel when you *carb up* a bit again. And any *waste* still residing in your intestines, etc. etc. etc. It can even tell the difference if you cut your long heavy mane of hair and now weigh two pounds less. BUT, you won't be one bit fatter or less fat than you were before.

So if you decide to include more carbs in your diet, don't feel a lot of angst when the scale registers some regained water weight. (Most of us think it's OH, SO WORTH IT!)

But here's what will also happen. As you continue on JUDDD, you will lose fat. You will shrink. You will grow slim and lean and sleek and find your health improved, your appetite normalized, probably your metabolism revved up better, and you'll be able to enjoy all the foods of the world for the rest of your life. All with some water weight being stored along with carb fuel in your liver and muscles, just as Mother Nature designed it.

We think it's a wonderful trade-off. Hope you'll join us. I think if you do, you'll come to love it as much as we do.

Ty for the responses.
I've been reading the threads here and have pretty much the same story as the other lcers.
Looking for something that works, I feel like I am spinning my wheels lcing..
I workout moderately 5days a wk and Ive lost a lot of inches, but the question is...

(((((Can I continue to live out my days inducting on lc?)))))

I have been doing it for ten yrs off and on and I am now heavier than I was when I started...Sure, I lost 20-30lbs here and there but I put it back on when I stopped working on it. And your right most of the weight loss is water.

There is a two wk start phase w/JUDD??
How do you do that besides keeping your DD about 500cal's??
Is there no rules to it - Just that simple?
I mean do you go fat free, sugar free???
Bread free, anything not allowed??

I will be willing to give this a go for two wks to see if it works for me..I am thinking like I read on here that my body has become immune to ketosis and its onto me lol it dont want to give up the weight.

You all seem so kind in here, I cant wait to get to know you and get started.

You can always start off low carb, then climb the ladder as you feel more comfortable.

I keep it lowcarb anyways due to hypoglycemia.

I keep my Down Days around 600 - eat lots of lean protein, veggies, and I include a 100 calorie "snack" for midafternoon.

Welcome Joflora,

JUDDD is all about the calorie cycling. It has nothing to do with your food choices as long as you stay within your calorie ceilings.

Some people are LC and JUDDD some do medium carb and some eat carbs without restriction.

Some of us are anti frankenfoods....some of us eat tons of sugar free products.

None of that matters.

Just determine your Up day and Down day calorie limit and start eating .. Eat the stuff you choose.

For the first 2 weeks the program recommends using shakes and stuff to make sure you stick to no more than 500 calories on your DD but pretty much no one here I can tell follows that as a rule. Some use shakes because they like them....some don't even stick to a 500 or lower Down Day...they find they can lose at higher amounts (like 600-700)

Edit to add:

I prefer under 500 for my DD. I eat moderate carb. Any fruit and veggie I choose. I limit my grain products to UD and so far nothing junky. Right now no wheat and I am testing out gluten free products. Will see how I tolerate them

OK, first of all.. it's simple. You can go read all about this plan by putting JUDDD into Google Search. That can take you to the site where you can read the basic plan, and believe me.. there is very little to read. There's not much to it.

You will need to use two or three different calorie calculators to come up with a calorie number that is your number to maintain your current weight. If you were quite heavy still, you'd probably go a bit lower from that number, but you look slim already, so you'll probably just take the average of the calculator numbers for maintenance and that will be your calorie ceiling for your Up Days.

Then you will figure out what you want to do for your Down Days. You can do the DD Weight Loss days at a mere 20% of your UD calories (which isn't usually many calories! ) or you can do 30% or 35%.. whatever you choose. But, most of us try to stick at about 500 calories for our Down Days. And 500 calories is suggested for the first two weeks. He calls it induction. And truthfully, it doesn't mean much. 'Cause basically, you're just going to start in somewhere and do it. This isn't a plan that has any need for an *induction* at all.

He also suggests you do shakes for the first two weeks. Right.. ummmm.. no. Most of us don't find shakes filling, and don't think they were one bit desirable for DDs. But you get to decide that.

So, you alternate days, eating up to your calorie ceiling of anything in the world you want on your Up Days. You can stay low carb, or you can increase your carby foods, whatever you want. JUDDD just does not care. JUDDD isn't about the food choices at all, only about the calorie numbers!

Every other day is a Down Day. On those days you eat at your DD calorie number or under. Some folks can't start so low as 500 calories, so they start at 700 or so, and work backwards. But the Down Days are the weight loss days, so you do want to get into doing them very low as soon as possible.

And that's pretty much it.

And, DO expect some wildly fluctuating scale weights if you are one who weighs every morning, like me. It's I've never known a weight loss plan that produces such a bouncing up/down weight progression as this one. Not to worry. As the days and weeks go by, you just get slimmed down and happier by the day!

Good luck, Joflora, you should have no problem with DD if you're used to 500 calories from another program.

Agreed!

Half of why I started JUDDD is that I just wanted to be around and be supported by such kind and happy people (Psst: It is probably the additional carbs that make it so )

and I am not kidding. I was doing IF and LC and it was sorta working...so I thought " if this stops working I am going to JUDDD" and I ended up bingeing one day and thought..oh well....I'll move to JUDDD because JUDDD is really where I want to be..socially and emotionally and with my food choices.

JUDDD: the place where dieting is easy, kind and fun....and successful!

joflora,
good luck to you! i am just starting out also! i also eat LC - it was great for maintaining and when i decided to lose a few more it wasn't working. plus i just feel better if i keep my sugars and starches to a low. i still plan to LC while JUDDDing, with a "few" higher carb treats. like today i ate snickers because i was worried about getting in my cals for my UD.
welcome welcome welcome you will find that everyone here is so knowledgeable and super friendly!!!

oh, and definitely recheck your calories, i found that i messed mine up 3 times before i finally got a reasonable answer - not sure what i was doing wrong but i decided to keep my exercise to very light and had to make sure my weight was in pounds, not kg.

Okay I am going to re-check it..
The calorie calculator is asking for cm or inches
So for my height at 5ft8" I put in 68inches.
Weight 207lbs.
Activity is moderate..And that's what comes up
2637cals and 527 on DD's..
Maybe I need to find another calculator for this..

You could try this. I just really, really want you do do well, not just succeed, but do fabulously well. And this number for an UD just seems a bit high to me, but I could be so wrong it would make my head spin.

If you got this number only from the JUDDD site, do be aware that most of us think that it gives folks an overly generous UD calorie figure. For example, the Freedieting site gives you an UD calorie number of about 2300 calories.

The other thing is.. sometimes those calculators aren't quite as dependable for us to believe in as they might be for folks who are much closer to their goal weights, and who might have more normal metabolisms, which is probably why they are closer to their goal weights than we are in the first place. LOL

Also, if we are very much over our goal weights, these calculators are giving us calorie figures based on our entire weight, including the weight of our FAT, but we don't actually want to be feeding our fat, so most of us cut it back just a smidge to compensate for that. Based just on our overweight alone, these calculators can give us permission to be eating as many calories as big manly guys who burn a lot faster than we do, and that just isn't the way it works, so they're only a starting point for us to set our UD calories by.

If this UD calorie number is giving you the great results you want, then you're golden. If your weight loss is progressing slowly or not too well at all, then you might consider bringing those UD calories down a smidge.

I could be all wet here. I just don't want you to fail to lose at a decent rate, or become discouraged. But I could certainly be leaping to conclusion here too. I'll be cheering for your great success regardless!

OH! And good for you for quitting smoking. I quit a decade ago after years of being a smoker and am so glad I did, of course, but Man! I remember the weight gain that caused me. Even after I was sort of over the cigarettes, I kept having compulsions.. that I wanted.. *something*.. and I seemed to feel that a beef and cheddar sandwich would suffice. LOL Suffice it to say, it sufficed me all the way up to obesity.

The calorie calculator is asking for cm or inches
So for my height at 5ft8" I put in 68inches.
Weight 207lbs.
Activity is moderate..And that's what comes up
2637cals and 527 on DD's..
Maybe I need to find another calculator for this..

Rileyty lol a snickers?!
Try
Calorie Calculator - Daily Caloric Needs
and
Calorie Calculator

perhaps take the average number from these two for your UD cals...and then work out your DD %....either 20, 25, 30, 35 % of the UD number you have arrive at.
You can always tweak upwards or downwards once you get into the swing of things!

Also..a lot of us based our UD numbers on our goal weight..rather than the weights we were at the start...as Sohappy pointed out...we dont want to maintain our fat!

let us know how you get on!

hugs

I was also going to ask if you were putting your goal weight in the JUDDD calculator or your current weight. If you use your current weight, I think it will give you the numbers to maintain that weight. I could be wrong.
