AT 12:10 this afternoon our Little Miss passed over to a place that I'm sure is filled with squirrels to chase, cats to be friends with, and has met up with all my other pets that have passed before her.

It was a terrible night, followed by an even more terrible morning and at 6:00 am when she woke me up crying I knew she was telling me it was "time". She could not walk or get comfortable, but still being the great dog she was, she managed to go outside when I asked her to, and then came back to bed. We both fell asleep, but I woke up at 8:00 to call the Vet who immediately asked me to come in at the first opening he had for the day at 11:45. I hung the phone up and started to cry and my Little Miss struggled to come and sit on my lap as if to say, "Don't cry Mom, I know what you have to do is going to be terrible for you, but please do this for me. I'm just so tired and this is one battle I don't think I can win". I kissed her and she fell back to sleep as I took my shower and got ready for my DBF to pick us up and take us to the Vet.

Wrapped in a blanket she sat on my lap in the front seat of the car and at one point struggled to sit up to look out the window. This was always her favorite thing to do when in the car and even to the last she wanted to do this. I got her settled high enough on my lap for her to look out, but she was just too tired and settled back down after a few moments on my lap to take nap.

Dr. Menez came into the room and examined her, and confirmed that the battle was indeed at it's end and that, as I knew, it would be best to help her on her way because if we waited any longer she would only suffer more. After giving her a sedative to calm her down, Dr. Menez left us to be alone.

I thanked her for the many years of loyalty, companionship, support through some of the most loneliest times of my life, her hugs, kisses and all the laughter she had given me and asked her to forgive me my impatience at times with her. I told her please find Ashley, Fluffy, and Amber (those who passed before her) and let them know that, along with her, they too were going to be needed to meet me when it was my time to pass over. I told her to come "visit" when she could and that I looked forward to being with her again in a place that we would never have to be separated again, and would be together forever after.

Dr. Menez then came in and gave her a shot and while in my arms she passed over easily and quietly. All the staff came in crying and commenting on what a wonderful dog she was, and that no matter what they had to do to her while she was in the hospital last week, not once did she complain or get annoyed.

Even though I know she is in a much better place than the pain and suffering she was in and that I did what she would have asked me to do (and did in her own way), my heart is still broken and I will miss her terribly for the rest of my life.

We would like to say a final thank you to all of my LCFs and please know that I will NEVER forget the prayers, thoughts, support and encouragement you all gave to Miss Cleo and myself. We are truly blessed to know such wonderful people.

My heart is broken for you. And for all of us, for all of our lost friends. I'm wiping away my tears so that I can write this. I had thought and hoped that you would have this little dog for awhile longer. They don't have lifespans that are that long in the first place.. it doesn't seem fair that any would have to go even before that. But of course, I truly and firmly believe that they are where we all go when we pass through.

I'm so sorry, Linda. I'm just so very sorry.

oh Linda, I am crying as I write this.
I have been checking all day, hoping for good news, but by your silence, I guessed not.
You did your best for your sweet little friend, right up till her last peaceful, pain free moments. How blessed you both were to have each other, and to be together in her last minutes.
Your beautiful descriptions of your little girl have been a joy to read, and a wonderful tribute to her.
Be sure to let yourself greive, and never let anyone tell you she was "just a pet"....to those of us who love them, and share their lives, they are so much more.

sending you much love & hugs
Jo
xx

I am so sorry Beeb....

I know how it feels to lose a beloved pet (I lost my little kitten Sophie earlier this year) and my heart goes out to you.

Your story was both beautiful and sad. I am glad that, despite the fact that she is gone, you got to say goodbye and be with her in her last moments. How wonderful that she was with you when that happened, because it probably meant the world to her.

I know it is going to be hard for a while without her there. I can't really say anything that will change that. I guess what I am trying to say is how lucky we are, when we have a furry friend to share our lives with for a while, and how the love they give us and the memories we have of them can continue to be a light, comfort and inspiration to us even after they are gone.

I know you miss her and I wish you peace and healing in whatever way you choose to remember her.

lots of hugs

I'm so sorry for your loss. You were brave to let her go, and I wish you the best during your grieving for her. We never forget our dogs--but eventually the pain of their loss does diminish, and we can focus on the joy we had from sharing their lives. She knew how much you loved her, I'm sure.

Thank you all! I have said this a number of times and I repeat it again: Without the support, prayers and caring of my JUDDD BUDDDs I am not sure where either my little Miss or myself would have been in the last week. Just knowing that you guys were only a click away helped to make this terrible time just a little bit easier.

She is at peace now, and I know she is just having a ball, as she always managed to do her whole life! She never outgrew being a puppy and that is what I loved so much about her!

I also know she is still here with me and her spirit will carry me through in the days to come. She was a very special friend and we shared a bond that I have never had with any other animal in my life and because of this strong bond I know she will remain by my side now, as she always was in life.

Bless you all for your amazing outpouring of love and concern and please know that our little Miss knew how much she was loved by you all.

Thank you so much again from the bottom of my heart!

I am so sorry, Linda. Whenever we have lost one of our beloved pets life seems so surreal for a while. So much laughter, dog commercials, cute pictures everywhere during the time while our hearts are still broken. This is tough.

Oh Linda, I was so sad to read this. I'm so sorry for your loss. Even though they are pets, they certainly become part of our families and we greive just as much for them as we do for our "people". You know that she knew so much love from you, and that's the important thing. There are so many animals who never get that love from people (think ASPCA commercials) that I can't even imagine it. Cleo was one lucky little girl to have had you in her life. Hugs, hon.
