Well, I need to tell you all that the last 36 hours have not been good. She is back to being so depressed, not eating, and sleeping all the time. She is very uncomfortable and restless, too.

I had to almost force her to go out today and eat something. She didn't even want a snack. I can't understand this when she was doing so well when you got home and on Friday.

We have an appointment for a checkup on Friday but if things continue to go downward from here I will be taking her in sooner.

I'm not liking what I see or feel about this, but am always optimist that it's just Mommy worry and nothing more.

PLEASE, continue to pray, if you can! I truly believe in the power of prayer!

I'm scared reading about this, Linda. This just makes me feel real apprehensive and sick.

I'm praying like crazy that she perks up as this day progresses and begins to act perky again by later today.

Please remember us here in internet-land, spread out so far from you, and let us know what's going on as the hours pass. Hope you can get her into the vet's office early tomorrow if she still doesn't seem to be feeling right.

I just feel so bad to read this. It's like this just came back so fast.

Is she drinking? If not, get her back to the vets asap. In fact, having a pet with kidney problems myself, I would take her back now anyway...just to be on the safe side.
So sad that she is feeling poorly again...my heart goes out to you

Not a good day at all. She is VERY listless, and won't eat at all now. She was outside eating grass before which tells me her stomach is upset so this maybe why she is not hungry. The meds could be upsetting her belly. I just remembered that the Dr. said it may take time for the meds to really kick in and as my DBF said she could have been just so happy to be home that she was her "puppy" self again so soon and maybe we just need to go a few more days to see what happens.

I tend to agree with him here and will wait until Wednesday before I call the Vet and bring her in. I haven't given up hope and am still optimist, especially since I saw that turn around when she first got home.

Will keep you all updated and again thanks so much for all the care and prayers!

So sorry to hear this, Beeb. I would urge you to call the vet first thing Monday morning. The vet is better equipped than we are to determine what symptoms are just signs of adjusting to a new medicine, and what symptoms mean something should be done quickly. I've never regretted the times I've called and questioned my vet about something that seemed slightly wrong about my dog, and twice it has saved my dog's life.

What meds is Cleo on? Kidney disease can cause a lot of stomach upset and acidosis, and many vets will send the dog home with anti-nausea meds as well as the kidney meds.

Beeb, if you haven't already read and printed this article out, I think you'll find it extremely helpful:

David J. Polzin, "11 guidelines for conservatively treating chronic kidney disease,"
VETERINARY MEDICINE, Dec 1, 2007. (Google the title and you can read a free copy from the journal.)

Your vet is probably familiar with it (I hope so!), but it's worth checking with him. My understanding from my vet is that this is now the accepted treatment protocol for kidney disease--but many vets don't have time to read the current vet literature, so they may not be following the standard protocol. I'm sure your vet will be happy to go through the recommendations with you, so you both can decide what steps make the most sense for Cleo.

OK, she ate about 1/2 her dinner, which is just fine, I think. She is drinking and weeing so that is a good thing, too. I will read the link that Tiva pointed out and if she is not better by tomorrow morning I will call the Dr. and see what he says.

My poor baby, and my gut is saying that she just isn't feeling well, not that this is telling me it's "time".

Beeb I'll add this: whenever a dog has a drastic change in their food, it can take a while for their tummies to adjust. She could be having that on top of the meds. hugs to you both.

It's 10:30 pm here right now and little Miss has FINALLY settled down. She was SO restless all day, and when she went to lay down she seemed to be either in pain or having trouble somehow with the position she was in. I finally got her to prop herself up some on a pillow and then she fell asleep.

There is something wrong and if I don't see a marked improvement by the morning I am calling the Dr. I am so stressed about NOT knowing what is wrong and what I should do for her

. Thank God Dr. Menez is the kind of Dr. that will tell me straight up what I should do. I feel like I should just let her go, but I have such hope from what the Dr. said and how she was when she first came home! I'm so confused right now!!

OH, JUDDD BUDDDs, please pray as hard as you can that we see a better day tomorrow!

Just popping in to see how your night went, whether Little Miss Cleo was able to get some good sleep (and you too), and how she seems to be feeling this morning. I'm still hoping that her apparent distress was only from a little upset in her stomach from the new meds and new diet, and that kidney function is still pretty good after her previous treatment.

I know you'll let us know when you get a chance to update. Prayers and good thoughts continuing.
