I'm not sure what these are called--
Nori snacks?
They're flavored nori, cut into little rectangles.

I think some people use them like crackers--they're not super crispy,
but you could put a little dab of something on them, or wrap them around a bite-sized vegetable, piece of fish, etc. You could also snip them into a salad or soup.

At an Asian market they are a fraction of the cost of similar products at health food stores. Each piece (4 pieces in a serving, 100 servings in a pkg; I got a pkg for $6.99) is 1 calorie! And seaweed is quite nutritious, so you're getting something good for your calories!

Unflavored nori is 10 calories for a full sheet. You can use them as a "wrap", for something different!

These are VERY tasty! PirateJenny -- I wanna come hang out at your house -- you talk about the best food!!

My DD staples so far:
Cabbage
Egg Creams (I make them smaller on DDs, but they offer good nutrition, so I've kept them in my rotation)
mushrooms
Shirataki noodles
Gluc puddings
Almond milk
Capella drops
Hewbrew national LF hotdogs (I learned that from someone on here!)
Bullion (I have a whole army of flavors now -- mainly low-sodium types)
And -- OF COURSE -- Diet Swiss Miss

anyone like asparagus?
I just bought europes best brand frozen asparagus 2 bags for $5
7 spears 15 calories, I counted 17 spears in a bag, so on a DD if you
feel the need for ALOT of food, the entire bag is about 35 calories nuke
for 6 minutes on a plate sprinkle with sea salt and lemon juice and it is
a LARGE amount of deliciousness for the bargain of 35 calories!!
I will keep a few of these bags in my freezer always so quick convenient and yummy!!
(warning though large amounts of asparagus makes your urine smell odd)

hugs
Nikki

Water. You CAN make it with milk, if you like, but most of us think it tastes really good with just water.

It doesn't have a strong "fake sweet" taste like some diet products do. You really feel like you're having "the real thing".

It's only 25 calories for a mug of it.

It's fast, pretty cheap (Walmart has it for under $2 for a box which contains 8 packets.)

It SMELLS like the real deal, too. When I make it, DH always says (sniffing the air), "Oh, you're having cocoa!".

I add Toasted Marshmallow Davinci's to mine. On UDs I add HWC. But as Sophiethecat says, it's good just with water.

Diet Swiss Miss...I sure wish I could give mine to one of you. I had some last night and I thought it was sooooooo overly sweet. Sounds like I'm in the minority though and most here like it.

Homemade vegetable soup is proving to be a Godsend for me, along with sugar free Jello for when my mouth wants a little sweetness...

I could never give up on an egg yolk, so I won't be making any egg white omelettes, lol.

I know I have to have quite a bit of protein on my down days, so here are a few plan-friendly proteins:
8oz boneless skinless chicken breast: 220 cals
8oz tilapia fish: 240 cals
8oz 93% lean ground beef: 320 cals
8oz pork tenderloin: 240 cals
9oz tuna in water: 240 cals
4 large whole eggs: 280 cals

I'm sure there are a lot more.
Fill this out with a good amount of low-cal veggies and you really can eat quite bit for under 500 cals on down days.

Dottie, I, too have to have a lot of protein and your proteins listed above along with veggies and/or veggie soups is a sure bet for DDs.
Very nutritious and satisfying.

I am looking at my box and it is 25 calories per envelope. It says "Swiss Miss Sensible Sweets" and a pink ribon that says DIET. Imo, it's not that good, but, I seem to be in the minority. It just taste like it's lacking something, but, I suppose for 25 calories it is a pretty good deal, lol. I hope this helps.

There are different formulas of this hot chocolate mix. You need to look for the *diet* one rather than just the *sugar free* one.

Isn't it odd that the "sugar free" one has more calories and carbs than the "diet" one? Just something to lol about.

I always add extra sucralose and vanilla extract when I make a cup- it makes it taste much better!

Maybe that's what I needed to do. I got all excited when I first heard here about the diet cocoa for only 25 calories! Bargain sweet treat.. right?

So I tracked it down and bought a box, tried a cup and BLEEHHHHH. It tasted just awful to me. Just one more icky fake wanna be substitute food. Absolutely stunningly not good!

So I asked my sister if she wanted it? LOL! She's diabetic and doesn't ever touch anything sweet or very high carb. She LOVED the stuff! Thought it was delicious and delightful, and will continue to get this product to enjoy hot cocoa all season long. She's thrilled to have this wonderful product add the occasional little sweet treat to her life.

So how things taste has a lot to do with what flavor you think stuff should taste like.

These days I'm mostly back to using the real thing on Up Days only and just skipping it entirely on Down Days. But I'm going to buy a couple more boxes of the diet stuff for my sister for stocking stuffers!

I don't think it is fantastic, but it does the trick to fill my tummy with something nice and warm before I go to bed. I fill a big thermos and do a double batch for 50 calories. there is another brand out there that has a diet version and i believe it is 25 calories too. i was going to try that one next time to see if there is a difference.

i don't care to much for hot tea and something about a hot drink really takes the edge off any sort of hunger.

Unsweetened cocao powder has only 12 cals per teaspoon, 2 teaspoons makes a cup of cocoa, but I guess then you have to add some milk........... I have some chocolate extract, I will check the cals in that.

Nothing is as good as the real thing, hehe, but I was pleasantly surprised by the diet Swiss Miss. I expected a fake sweet taste like many other diet products, and I didn't get too much of that. But it could be because I use more water than 6 oz. I probably use 8 oz. at least.

Now the Carbmaster yogurt... To me, that has the "frankenfood" flavor of artificial sweetener. Blech. But again, our tastes are different and it's probably someone else's favorite treat.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I stopped by the store this morning and picked up a few things. They did not have FF hot dogs of any kind, so I bought turkey dogs. They have 70 calories each. Hope I can stand them

I also went with the Nestle Sugar Free chocolate mix (powder) suggestion and used it in my coffee this morning with a touch of FF half/half. YUM!

I find you have to put half n half in it to make it tasty but then the calories go up. Low carb it works for. Calorie counting not so much. I have thrown it in a cup of coffee before but once again the half n half is there.

Another staple for me is Great Value Liquid Eggs (I think it's their version of Egg Beaters, which I've never had). I use 1/2 cup (60 calories) combined with some cooked veggies & seasonings for omelettes or scrambled eggs.

After reading some of these threads I got some Almond Milk on my last grocery trip (and some ff hot dogs). I'm not sure about the Almond Milk. I tried it in my coffee and wasn't pleased with the taste. I'll try it a couple more times (maybe I just have to get used to it), but I'll also look for other things to use it in, because coffee is not its forte.

It is the Blue Diamond "Almond Breeze", unsweetened vanilla. It was the one that was 40 calories a cup.
