Thanks

I needed to read this. I am struggling to eat up to my UD calorie limit. But in all fairness it is pretty high; 2,430 calories. Whew! I will be glad when I lose some weight and I can eat less on UD's. Right now I am so full and I still have 700 calories to go. Ugh.

It is important to eat those UD calories and the way I look at it we were eating that much (or much more) to get to the place that landed us all here.

That must be true. I never bothered to track it. Now with the DD's, my stomach must be shrinking or something. It's just hard to get that much food in me in a day. How about DD calories? Do you HAVE to eat up to your limit or can you go lower or fast completely?

It's so strange, but doing low-carb + JUDDD, I really struggled today to get my UD calories in. Who am I?!

No, you don't have to eat all your DD calories. You can completely fast if you wish. During WLM I stuck to about 150 calories on DDs.

I totally get that you don't want to eat something like HALF of your up day calories, but the JUDD web site does say the text below. I admit I haven't read the book and have been using the JUDD web site and this forum as a guide, so perhaps he emphasizes eating up to your recommended up day calories there? The statement below doesn't seem to stress eating up to your regular daily allowance if you are simply full. Would love some thoughts on this.

"Individuals on the Johnson UpDayDownDay Diet™ have found that, despite restricting their calories on Down Days, they are no hungrier on Up Days than they would be if they were not on the diet, and in some cases they are less hungry. If you're not as hungry on Up Days, it's okay to eat less than your regular daily allowance."

You don't need to over stuff yourself, but if you restrict to low it can stall weight loss, cause the loss of the JUDDD magic, make DDs harder to stick to and just lead to an overall low calorie/ daily restriction diet, which isn't JUDDD and isn't usually sustainable over time. If you get your body use to eating less, just think how little you will actually get to eat when at goal and trying to maintain a lower weight.

Looking back I wished I had pushed the calorie envelope a bit further since it seems that I don't get to eat much on a daily or weekly basis. If I had pushed UDs higher during WLM, perhaps I could eat more in maintenance.
