Great thread - I was a little under my cals on my UD yesterday - I think I will still monitor the cals - but not worry about being a bit over - if that is where my hunger takes me.

Thanks for bumping this! great thread! I have to keep in mind to eat more, even though I am still finding it really hard. I think I am around 1,600 calories today. Might try to get some more in. The JUDDD website says I need 2224. That sounds like an awful lot to me!
It is great to read all these tips on how to up your calories easily! Berries with whipped cream is what I'm going to have!! |

I'm bumping this because of my worry with some thinking that they can eat less and lose faster on JUDDD. Or do more DDs and lose faster.
JUDDD does not work well this way and I thought we all could use a reminder or some new info for the Newbies that YOU GOTTA EAT for JUDDD to work it's magic!! Last edited by Beeb; 02-08-2012 at 06:40 PM.. |

It's just psychological to me. UD I'm not hungry, when I can essentially eat whenever/however I want. I end up not doing it because I don't want to be "bad" on my diet. DD all I think about are cookies and other goodies. Oy! It makes me quite frustrated with my brain.
Thanks for the reminder Beeb |

Thanks for the bump Beeb!
I eat pretty good on my ud's but have found it hard to get close to my calories. I know its my mind and how its been trained on previous diets or woe and the fact that if you eat less you lose more. I am really trying to wrap my mind around this concept b/c I really want Juddd to work for me b/c I am so enjoying my food on Ud's. I know last week I lost nothing but in 2 weeks time I had lost 9.5 so I figure my body was adjusting to the quick weightloss. This week so far it's going kind of slow so today being an ud I am really going to focus on eating up to my calories so I can get things moving again. Thanks for everything. kj

This is a great thread. I, too, am having a hard time with the idea of eating more *and* losing weight. I'm just so used to starving to see the scale move. This is a hard concept!

This one is hard for me. I did meet my UD goal for today (a rarity)...but only because there were leftover hashbrowns from the kids dinner and I started nibbling on them. I had 400 calories left so I'm fairly certain I still did not go over, but should have gotten close. Especially good since yesterday I only got 100 cal in. :/ I tend to save my cals for the evening and then find I have too many that I can't eat that much. So I'm going to try upping lunch calories.

I think it is more than psychological (although that does play a large part). I think on DD we get an new hit of the sirtuin enzymes. Which leads to a bit of appetite suppression as UD begins.
I know the psychological part is huge: on DD I dream about what I am going to eat tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and none of it sounds good. I always end up fixing something different. Forbidden fruit so often 'tastes' sweetest. |

I didn't weigh this morning because I have some fluid retention connected to some medication I'm taking. Which reminds me of another point~I'm not having the crazy fluid retention I tend to have while low carbing. I did measure my waist this morning 1 inch gone and 1 inch gone from my hips! YAY!!!!! |

WTG! on inches gone and appetite suppression. I worried later about posting that part you quoted above because I realized parts of it seemed more fitting for maintenance than WLM, but there are a few lucky souls who are able to eat like you during WLM and lose! Ideally we could all do this during WL but some metabolisms are in worse shape than others when coming to JUDDD and it takes some time to get to the point of being able to eat ad libitum on UDs. If the weight loss stops for you at some point (hopefully not) then at least you will know to reign in your UD calories and track them until maintenance. ![]() I can relate to your lack of fluid retention on JUDDD! I felt like I was retaining at least half the month on LC, and I expected the same on JUDDD since adding carbs is known to usually add back some water weight at first, but lo and behold, I feel normal and unbloated again almost every day out of the month on JUDDD! ![]() Anyway, yayyyy for you, IW! Loving your success and happiness on JUDDD! ![]()

Im glad this was brought back up, i needed to read it. I think part of my problem im having with not getting off this last 5lbs is me doing this MD. I think im gonna start just doing the rotation as its supposed to be and see how that works. I have been doing the MD because it makes the work week so easy only having to worry about what im eating 2 days per week but i really want this last 5 gone. Believe me, i had already decided even if it didnt go anywhere im not leaving juddd because im just enjoying this woe to much but ill change the rotation and see what happens. I have been going back and forth about changing my UD calories and lowering them and then reading this reminds me that i really shouldnt do that, i think its just the rotation that needs to be changed.
Im also not retaining near as much water anymore. At first i was like crazy because i added carbs and boy my body had a hard adjustment to that. But now i may go up 2 lbs at the most. Last weekend i at a bacon cheeseburger, fries, onion rings and a milkshake and was only 2lbs the next day. There was one weekend when i first started that all i ate was 1 piece of toast and fried chicken and was up 6lbs!!!!! Right now im retaining like crazy but its because of the meds im on. I still get on the scale and its frustrating but i know its the meds. I have gained 5 lbs since tue even with having wed and fri as DD's so i know its the meds.

Shelly, I second that motion! I avoid them, but have to use MDs once in awhile. I find they always slow me down.

Shelley,
When I first started JUDDD back in October '11, I included MDs right from the beginning because of a standing weekly dinner we have with friends. Just about 3 weeks ago, I decided that I would go to our weekly dinner every other week. I see most of these gals during the week, so it wasn't that I was being anti-social. I haven't noticed a marked difference but what I have seen are the fluctuations have decreased significantly. Sometime when I get on that scale, it reflects a lower weight and then comes back up the .4/.8 difference. This is while I'm still on the scale, not getting on and then off. I'm truly feeling that incorporating the MD has slowed down the process, but I do know that they are there when needed. This past weekend, I did a MUDDD rotation, and this weekend requires the same rotation as it's hubby's birthday, and we have company for the weekend, and then Sunday, we're going to see Jeff Durham. So, MUDDD it is. My point after all this typing is that I think you're making a very wise decision to eliminate the MDs, at least for awhile, and use them when necessary. They can be an very convenient way to stay on protocol. |

I think this is such an important key message for people. I have a friend who tried to keep her UDs about 500 calories below what she should have been eating. She was really struggling and very hungry on her DDs. She wasn't losing well. She couldn't wrap her head around eating 2000 calories. Lots of us are in that mind set from years of dieting. She started to add in coconut oil, avocado, and nuts and easily got her calories up. Now she is losing weight and she finds she is no longer very hungry on DDs.

Decided to bump this up because I soooooooooooo needed to read it today. My scale shocked me with an almost 3 pound gain yesterday (after an UD) and I freaked out! Felt miserable all day yesterday but had a good DD and worked out at the gym and in the pool. Scale went down almost 4 pounds today!!
![]() Crazy scale!!!However, on my UD today I was not hungry. Very afraid to eat anything with no hunger because I don't want the scale going back up tomorrow!!! ![]() Beeb and Luna talked some sense into me and I had a great lunch and went looking for this thread so I will stay on track today. I know from experience that if I do not eat enough on an UD, it's almost impossible to restrict calories on my following DD. Rinse and repeat too many times and the old metabolism slows down and I swear I can detect the fat storage starting to happen. We don't want that!!!!! Let's eat on our UDs!!! Thanks, Beeb, Sophie and all of the wise, experienced, successful JUDDers!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I recently had a slow-down and decided to increase my calories to what the calculator gives me currently. I was eating about 100 calories less both days, and am now shooting for right at the calculated amount. I lost 1 lb the week before I changed it up, and lost 3.6 lbs this past week. It really does work!
