Hi Sharni, thanks for the welcome, i just finished reading the book and went to the supermarket to get some shake powder picked up Slim Right got it home and looked at the ingredience and its full of sugar, maltrose and frutose so I wont be using that looks like another trip to the store for me
I should of looked closer not just at the cals never mind we do have atkins shakes over here but I think 3 a day will put me over my DD |

Hi there Angie, although the book suggested using shake etc almost everyone here uses real food, we like to chew. You will find some great suggestions on the Down Day (DD) only recipe thread and in the Down Day (DD) staples threads etc.
So by now you have probably guessed that UD = Up Day. Then we occasionally use UUAD which is an up up and away day, way too much food, lol, and MD which is a Medium day. These we try to avoid but use if we need to change the rotation of our UD and DDs. A Medium Day is calculated by adding your UD and DD calories together and dividing by 2. Also, just a remeinder to all you lovely Newbies that for the first 2 weeks you can eat up to 500 cals on your DDs, some lose so well on that that they find they can stay there for quite some time. Good JUDDDing to you all.

Hello ANGIE 43, and
to the party! It really is wonderful, and you're going to love eating this way, and the support here. I agree with Cindy (Kissa) about eating real food vs shakes. I never once used shakes on this plan, and have done just fine. |

Hello to all the other newbies! I am happy today as it's an UD
I couldn't resist any longer.. I pulled my scale out this morning, but after stepping on it three different times and getting three different results, I decided to quickly put it back. Not sure why that was happening.. but I didn't want to accept any of the results if they were wrong. So for now I'll continue along happily with this WOE not knowing my weight.. I am determined to tackle the scale next week though! |

I guess since I am officially starting JUDDD today I should check in! I have been doing a TON of research and I feel like I am ready.
I have really struggled with my weight after I had my second (last) baby over 30 years ago. I have done low carb so many times I've lost count. The first time I did LC I started in March 1988 at a place called Diet Centers. It was SUPER low carb and I lost 55 lbs in 9 weeks (188/133)! I kept it off for a few years and then it started to creep back on at about 10 lbs a year until in Oct 2004 I found myself at 175 lbs. It's been off and on so many times and I am so disgusted with myself for not being able to keep it off. Thus JUDDD seems right now! On July 26 my DH had a stroke on the golf course. They subsequently discovered the stroke was caused by a brain-stem aneurysm and a tear in his vertebral artery. He will likely have both of these for the rest of his life. So the doctors told him it was now life or death that he lose weight (5'8"/198 at the time) and keep it off. Also get his BP, cholesterol and blood sugar down. So on 8/7 we started on LC again. I was back up to almost 172 lbs although my BP, cholesterol and blood sugar have amazingly always been normal. Today DH is 174.5 and his BP and glucose have normalized. His cholesterol is down from over 400 to about 250 and falling. His doctor's final goal for him is 170lbs. I am 148.4. And now I am scared to death. We have failed over and over on LC long-term. I need something that works and I REALLY think JUDDD is the answer. I have seen several people here who have lost 50+ lbs and kept it off or are still losing and I am very encouraged. I saw where someone used the JUDDD calculator using their weight GOAL instead of their actual weight and used those numbers. I thought that was a great idea. I also saw where someone used the 20% WLM as their and the 35% minimum calories per day with the 35% as their maximum calories. So for me that would be: DD: 313 - 547 calories UD: 1,564 calories Of course right now I am on Induction so no more than 500 DD calories. I also want to do only 20% carbs on my DDs and 40% on my UDs because there is NO WAY DH could do this so I still need to cook low carb with options (for example, green chili burgers with/without the bun or tacos/taco salad). Too much counting for him when he's not home and he does lots of business dinners out so LC is the way for him for now. MAYBE after he retires on 12/31 I can get him on JUDDD with me! I would love critique on this! See any glaring problems you want to mention? Any pitfalls you see me headed for? This is serious business for us now and I don't want to blow it!

Sooz! You're close enough to goal that I think it does make sense to use your goal weight for the calculator. I would not have lost doing it that way because I had SO much to lose, my body would have seen it as starvation time and held onto everything. It looks like you have a good plan, and I'm excited to see how it goes for you.If you DO decide to add carbs back, just know that there will be an initial replenishing of your glycogen stores (i.e., water weight), but then anything you lose after that is true weight loss.

Sooz.Sounds a good plan to me, you have done some serious homework. Until you have been doing it for a few weeks you won't know for sure, but I imagine it would be fine. Last edited by Kissa; 10-30-2012 at 02:26 PM.. |

Sooz! How wonderful that you've found us and have decided to try JUDDD. It really is a marvel how this all works, and I think you'll have a great transition from Low Carb. You've been through a very scary experience, and thank heaven your DH is okay and improving his health.I came to JUDDD after doing Atkins, and have continued to keep things fairly low carb, although I have added back some things like beans, squash, fruit, and I'm loving the freedom, and am looking forward to the holidays like I haven't in years (eating wise, that is. I LOVE the holidays otherwise! ![]() ![]() )Good luck and post often so we know how you're doing.

Thanks for the words of support Dawn, Cindy and LCG. I am excited to get through my first few weeks to see how things progress.
I've been doing even more research today to check into having a glass of wine (or two!) on my UD and keeping the same day of the week for UD/DD by using a MD for one of the days, say Saturday. I think what I have discovered is yes to wine and no to using a MD because natural rotation works best. Thanks also for all of the help you have provided in your past posts! |

Welcome to all the newcomers - I find JUDDD to be a great way of eating and the only way I have found to keep LC long term! DDs are intimidating at first but easy most of the time once you are used to them! I find the trick is to postpone eating to mid afternoon on DDs because once I start I am more hungry!
Good luck! Dee |
