Wanttobe, I'd recommend two months. I know that seems like an eternity, but many of juddd's benefits kicked in during the second month for me. My clothes got far looser the first month, but the big changes on the scale got going in month two. It also gets a lot more fun after the first few weeks.
All the best. Glad you're here. ![]() |

THE GREEN SHORTS FIT (ZIP & VELOR WAIST CLOSES)
I had put them aside when I began and they wouldn't go over my hips to my waist and now I am sitting here in them.
I cannot stay- poison ivy on my right hand is not even responding to Rx. numbing cream. It is litterally killing me! It has been over a week and I guess it is really a waiting game (2 more weeks I guess) I am going now to slather on more of that Rx. cream and put on a white glove (have tons of them- cotton from my Hand Bell days) and hoping I can continue to prevent it spreading. bbl

Lainey, Lainey, Lainey, I have missed you so much! I am sorry about that Poison Ivy, we don't have it over here, but it sounds horrid.
May I copy your post into the Non-scale Victory thread? It is so encouraging to see this kind of progress. |

Of course Cindy- anytime, you do not even have to ask. I am not much of a "summer" poster and have missed you and everyone here. I do limit myself to here and the Atkins Site I have been a member of for a few years even though Atkins never worked for me.
They are a great all around bunch with just about every "plan" and some no plans at all. Hope to bbl. |

Hi, I'm a newbie! I just started this WOE on Wednesday. Loving it so far...currently on my second DD. So far much easier than DD #1. A little background on me. I have low carbed for awhile, mostly with a Primal method of eating. Wasn't losing weight though and I do have about 20 pounds I need to lose. But I felt healthier eating that way and with my PCOS I know it's the way I need to be eating. Over the summer I was talked into trying the HCG diet. I lost 15 pounds my first round and another 10 my second round. But I couldn't maintain it for the life of me. I really did try but was feeling like I was doing a correction day every other day. I kind of threw in the towel and the better part of the last month has been spent with me binging on junk food almost nightly, resulting in gaining all of the weight back :/ I do feel like my body shape changed a little though so I guess that's one good thing. Also I feel like if I can go an entire summer on HCG I can do any diet! I'm also not new to IF'ing. I did Fast 5 for awhile but again, didn't lose weight on it - was my fault. I'd not eat all day and then I'd eat a ton of food at night. I didn't gain weight on it either which was a miracle.
So anyway was researching various forms of IF and came across the JUDDD. I read the book a couple of years ago but didn't try it then because the thought of not eating, or only eating 500 calories on any given day scared me!! I started Wednesday and lost 2 pounds by Thursday morning. I was busy on Thursday (my first UD) and didn't eat a whole lot. I wasn't hungry and didn't want to force myself to eat just because. I was about 1,600 calories, which included 2 glasses of wine yesterday evening. I'm down another 2 today. I think some of that might be dehydration from the wine though but I was thrilled to see a loss after an UD ha ha. Anyway this is long winded. Just have been reading through the forum and wanted to say hi! |

Hi to you too ThirteenBlessings!
It is interesting how scary that 500 or fewer calories sounds until you do it a few time. Then it is almost a pleasure. i can see that you you are coming to JUDDD after some serious thought. You'll love it I am sure. |

Interested to know how active you regular JUDDDers are? I am not exercising much, although I am not completely sedentary. Realistically, 1/2 hour of moderate exercise only burns off about 300 calories, if that...less, I believe. Unless something drastic happens that I cannot forsee at this point, and I am 48 yo, I doubt I will be committing to hours of exercise per day. Is weight loss harder without an exercise plan on JUDDD, or easier?

Hi I'm a Newbie
I'm very...no extremely curious about this WOE. I've seen bits and pieces here and there but now I want to learn what this JUDDD diet is all about. I've been battling with my weight for years and I know that low carb works but if I want to "live life" a little and eat a starch I gain a pound. That to me is bondage. I want a lifestyle diet that doesn't require so much work.
Please help me with any tips, advice, or suggestions about this lifestyle. Perhaps this could be the WOE for me....hopefully ![]() Last edited by fitnwhole; 09-30-2012 at 06:16 PM.. |

From one newbie to another
, fitnwhole!Members here are amazing! An absolute wealth of knowledge on JUDDD. I shared some of your same apprehension initially but, with a clear mind and an excited spirit I started yesterday (my first UD) and I am well into first DD today. I too, was LC for a long time, but recently when I went back to LC, I lost and regained the same .5 lbs over and over again. I knew I needed something fresh. So we are in this together!!!! ![]() Cece |

Lovely ladies,
I have recently put on 13 pounds with a new job and a move. Stress. I tried low carb and ended up bingeing so many times. I did this JUDDD plan before and it worked. But I didn't do it on purpose. I just alternated between eating one meal a day and eating two meals a day. I just followed my body's natural rhythm and did not exercise at all. I was 125 and looked fantastic. So I am coming back to it. I could have some m and ms a few days a week if I wanted on my two meals days. It was amazing and yes yes yes it was freedom!!! After one day I have come down half a pound. That was my down day...having my thanksgiving meal at dinner as my one meal because that is all I was hungry for. It is amazing when you do 500 cals how easy it really is. Wow. I am so impressed at the level of support and kindness here. It seems like such a welcoming place. have a lovely day chris |

I just started low carb and someone suggested I check out Juddd. I have been reading here online and looking you tube. I am confused. I also so much to take in. How can I really understand what its all about. I know it eat more one day and less the next but is there much more to it than that. I am a more homebound kind of person and don't get much activity. Low carb has been going good but I can't get out of my mind that when I start adding carbs the weight is going to come back on. And I thought maybe some other way of eating might help me. Also what is HCG? Should I buy a book or can I really know from looking around the internet.

Hi Linda
Welcome to the Forum.I've only been JUDDDing for a few weeks but I can tell you what I've learned so far. It is a good idea to read Dr Johnson's book, because it explains the science behind why and how this weird way of eating works. It makes it easier to stick with it, if you understand WHY you're doing something. It's available on Kindle, or as a real book. If you look here: UpDayDownDay Diet™ Plan ? How to Succeed there's a calculator to find your Up Day (UD) and Down Day (DD) calorie limits. It's recommended that you use the minimum exercise level setting to begin with, unless you're a marathon runner or similar. Dr Johnson recommends rotating strictly between UDs and DDs for the first couple of weeks, till the sirtuin kicks in. He also recommends using diet shakes on DDs during this time, so that your calories are strictly controlled. However, many people on this forum seem to prefer using real food and there are some good threads with DD meal suggestions if you don't fancy the shakes idea. What I've discovered for myself is that it's essential to count calories. That was something I'd never ever done before, so it was very new territory for me. I've also discovered - the hard way - that it also helps if you calculate the calories and subtract them from the day's allowance before you eat them, rather than discovering afterwards that you've blown it! ![]() Dr Johnson says breezily that you can eat anything you want on UDs. That's absolutely true, as the JUDDD magic works entirely through the rotations. However, if you know that eating a certain food is likely to trigger a binge, then you might want to wait till you've been JUDDDing for a while, when you might even find it's no longer a problem. It's also important not to find yourself on simply a low-calorie diet. The rotations are crucial to your success and it's important not to undereat on UDs. However, I've also discovered that, once the sirtuin is established, JUDDD is incredibly forgiving. If you blow an occasional day, you just go back to your rotations the following day. ![]() I hope that helps. I can't comment on Low Carb diets or HCG but you'll find tons of useful info here on the forum. Everyone is different and this is about finding out what works best for you. There's also incredible support here, the JUDDD Buddds are great! I wish you a happy and successful JUDDD journey. |

Thank you for giving me all that information. I will keep reading and see what I think. I find it interesting that we could eat more on some days. When I was younger 20s and living a normal life. Meaning working and not being housebound. I use to diet every day not low carb, wasn't known back then, but limited calories. Except Fridays was my eat anything as much as I wanted. It helped me keep on track. Not that JUDDD is the same thing and I doubt that would work for me today since I am in my 50s. But it makes me motivated. I am not sure what surtuin is but thats ok gives me something to look up. I do have triggers and thats what scares me about eating what I want. Once I get started I tend to binge, chips and dip and any sweets. I would probably want to be a normal weight before I tried any of those if ever. I do better counting calories. Even on Low Carb Atkins diet I am counting calories. I can't lose unless I do I think from living sedintary life just have to do it. Usually I have to stick under 1200 but I try to stay closer to 1000 if I want to really lose. So counting doesn't bother me. Thanks for the information thanks all for the welcome.

Lots of us here in our 60s and 70s Linda. Many of whom have health issues too. The alternate day calorie counting has speeded up most of our weight loss journey.
