Please allow me to introduce my self......I've been a lurker on the low carb forum since May '11. I was a Atkins adddict from 2001-2008 and lost 44 pounds very slowly. January 2009 I though I was in control of my carbs and tried just eating healthy, even purchased a Vitamix. The scale starting inching upward (ugh). I kept telling myself that my body just has to readjust to a different way of eating. My energy level was soaring, skin glowing and my hair was shiny from all the green smoothie I was drinking, but the weight was not coming off. I do the Curves workout 5 days a week and Zumba 2x a week. Also walk/bike ride weekly. I lost inches but not weight. So I decided to restarted Atkins December 26, 2011 lost five pounds in a month then stalled. Read about JUDDD and decided to start March 12, 2012 with a DD(158.2) and as of this morning 154 ! I'm lov'in JUDDD and lov'in the support in this group.

I'm with you on the fat thing. I've had DDs where my morning calories came from cream in my coffee, and lunch was pepperoni and cream cheese, and dinner was green beans with butter and maybe some macadamia nuts. Very satisfying, actually. Just very little volume. And I have to measure carefully, because 2 T of cream can easily become 3 (or 5!) if I eyeball it, and on DDs the amounts matter.

Whatever works for you, do it. There are no rules on JUDDD other than the calories. Some folks eat lots of veg on their DDs because it fills up their bellies. Others find protein satisfies them. I make sure I eat fat.

And since I aim for 500 but allow up to 600 "if I need it", a one ounce hunk of cream cheese is my go-to evening snack if my normal 500 isn't holding me and Mrs. Grouchypants is threatening to break free of my iron grip and spring forth upon my innocent family. That fat-laden creamy white lump of bliss puts her back to sleep for the rest of the day.

Welcome Curvesgal!!!

I love this WOE, and I know you will too - I go to Curves as well, and my DD loves doing Curves and doing Zumba twice a week. This is a great WOE, and I enjoy it so much -- I'm a newbie, and will be doing my first weigh-in on Sunday, can't wait to see my numbers!!!

Love it!

I definitely measure the cream on DDs. I adore the stuff and could easily overdo if I didn't. I'm glad I finally figured out my last go 'round with low carb that fat keeps me happy. I kept thinking why the heck doesn't protein keep me full?? Now I know!

My calculator numbers were 350/1750 but I started DD's with 500 calories in the form of shakes. Some people can do shakes, others can't. I did shakes since there was no counting involved. Drink x number of shakes and quit for the day. I can go to bed hungry though. Some people say they can't. I can sleep anytime, anyway.
I dropped to the 350/1750 and wasn't losing much so I was encouraged to go up a tad and see so I am doing 500/1900. I am slowly losing and have plans to see if I can start dropping the DD number again but if I don't lose faster that way, I might as well keep the 500 calorie DD's since they are pretty easy for me. I started January 8 and have lost 14 pounds doing this so it is slow but steady.

Another Newbie

Hello, everyone!

I stumbled upon JUDDD last Saturday and decided it was totally doable for me!

In July, 2011, I began losing weight by just watching what I ate, working out a lot, and over the next 5 months, somehow I just wasn't hungry very often so the weight just fell off. I went from about 145 to 125. This was the first time I'd been below 139 in my adult life. I still have no idea how it happened but anyway I even made it through Christmas fine but in January, I was hungry again!

I've gone up to 131.5 and I'm not complaining at all but I think we all know that you don't try to lose weight, just to have it come back! I was starting my day with protein shakes and trying to stay under 1250 calories but it seemed I was hungry all day because I was never actually full! I'd do well most of the day but end up with a jar of peanut butter!

So here I am. I started last Sunday with a DD and placed an order from Netrition. The day was much easier than I expected!

Monday was an UD and I honestly ate everything in sight and did not feel guilty about it...now I know I can't do that every day but surely one won't hurt me.

Tuesday was another DD...I ended up somewhere around 450 calories. I even ate some grilled chicken and one tortilla at a Mexican restaurant and felt so full that I just new I'd gone over!

Wednesday was an UD. Don't have anything good to say for myself on this day either because I ended up having chicken nuggets and french fries but it's ok!

Thursday, today, is a DD. It's 4:30 and I’ve had 150 calories. My netrition order came in so I had some gluc lemon pudding (from recipes on LCF!), miracle noodles in hot and sour soup (broth), coffee with davinci kahlua, and some egg whites.

Let me reiterate that I know I can't eat poorly on all my UDs. I've been eating mostly very healthy food lately though, and it is nice, for now, to eat without worry and guilt. For the last 2 1/2 months, I was constantly worried about what I was eating (but still eating) and felt guilty so I took a few days off!

I do have a question---does anyone have any tricks for easing the gluc discomfort?

Thank you all for all your comments to all of these boards! They have been a tremendous help to me in getting started with JUDDD!

Curvesgal, Tay65, and imajule.

Newbies, are pouring in and we love it. JUDDD numbers are sometimes on the tough side when you first read them. I am now maintaining so I don't do those numbers any longer. But most of us find them remarkably easy once we get going.

Imajule, A little madness is not usual on early JUDDD UDs. This too shall pass, and more 'normal' eating reestablishes itself.

Relax and that weight will soon go.

Welcome! I found after a few weeks of glucomannan powder, I became...acclimated to it. It doesn't bother me now. Don't eat gobs of it at first and slowly work your way up did the trick for me.

You're doing great.

Keep in mind that those really low DD numbers are for 20% of your UD calories, and is the lowest category. 25%, 30% and 35% are also considered "weight loss mode". Some people NEED to keep their calories to 20% of their UD calories to lose. Most of us find, though, especially at the beginning, that we can raise our DD calories a little if the 20% seems too hard to do.

Changing the percentages doesn't change the UD calories, only the DD. So I'd say that while my numbers at 20% are 470, I aim closer for 25% or 30%.

So long as you find the DD level that works for you, and that you can maintain on DDs, you'll do fine.

Howdy!

I'm not really an newbie; kind of an oldbie coming back to JUDDD. Lots of new faces here and lots of energy and support!

Really needing to get back in control. I've managed to gain a LOT of weight over the last year and am really needing to get it off and fit in my clothes again.

Starting Sunday - ready to go! Well not really, need to hit the store for my DD staples and THEN I'll be ready!

OK i just finished week 4 of JUDDD. i was originally following rhe JUDDD calculator and it gave me 2000 cals for the up days. about 400 on the down days.

i lost the first week about 6.8 lbs. then up 1 lb the next week and up 1.8 the net week. so i figured something was wrong. read the Johnson book and planned to reduce up day cals to 1800. i did the lower cal level for my up days this week. about 1800 for a couple of days then i decided that my food intake just had to be enough for my body to know i was no longer restricting calories. so i then dropped to just under 1700 for the last couple of up days. i am happy to report that i am down 4.6 lbs for this week. that makes 8.2 for the month. so pretty good considering i had small gains for 2 weeks.

i have to say i really enjoyed the Johnson book. he comes across as someone who really understands the battle with fat that many of us have had for many years. and i think i can better understand the point of a lot of this stuff.

I know several of our spouses are JUDDDing, but don't visit the boards. I would love a male perspective here.

There are a few here who have lost a lot and are maintaining well with JUDDD. I started with about 100 lbs to lose, lost about 10 with Atkins, and have lost 35 (so far) with JUDDD. I fully intend to lose the rest with JUDDD as well.
