Hi all! When I first came to the forum I gave this WOE a glance, and passed it over. I came back today and decided it might work even better than low-carb for me. Went over to the official website to figure my UD/DD numbers. My UD is 1740/DD 609 (35%). I'm going to do 2 weeks of 500 DD to start. I had an "accidental" DD yesterday because I just didn't have time to eat much. I'm excited about this and am looking through this forum now. I'm going to track my food on fit day, as I have been doing the last few weeks.

The cool thing was that after I signed into ****** after a long absence, I saw my starting weight then had been 157, and was 145 on 1/6. It was good to feel a sense of progress because I had forgotten I had weighed that much several years ago.

I suggest you visit and post often, it really seems to help. You have a great plan there already.

Hi, Corgimom and Barb. Nice to see you here and happy to be doing this for myself along with you. People here are very supportive!

Very nice progress, Barb. You must be so pleased!

I just had some help working out what my claories should be after some confusion (today is my 7th day on JUDDD). I'm not weighing, so hard to say about my progress, but I will measure tonight so that I can keep track from now on.

I recently read the JUDD book and feel I will give this a go soon, kind of mixing it with intermittent fasting.

Enjoyed reading the thread.

Just want to make sure I'm right.

I started on 1/19. I'm doing good so far but I'm hoping a JUDDD BUDD can confirm my numbers. I'm almost obsessed checking everyday. right now I stay 300 or below on DDs. And I'm supposed to have 1600 on UDs? It's hard. I feel pretty full. I'm 5'3. 37yo. I started at 145 but 2 days ago weighed 140. I want to get to 125-130. I love this so far and want to do it right! Oh, and I do work out almost everyday. Thanks

I come up with 1664 Calories for Up Days, and if you're staying around 300 on your DDs, you are doing remarkable well right off the bat! Most of us start out at 500 calories on our DDs, or... if we can't even do that, we start higher. So your 300-calorie DD is really helping you along.

If you can eat a few more UD calories to reach your number, that will be fine. Wonderful even. Sometimes when we hold our UD calorie numbers right up to the top number we were given, combined with the very low DD numbers, it triggers something in our brains somehow, and we get a boost to our metabolism from it! And, Man! Is that ever a nice thing to have happen!

Glad you're doing JUDDD with us! Come in often to chat with us, post your menus, tell us your successes so we can be motivated ourselves. We love having more JUDDD BUDDDs here!

Thanks Pat! I feel better now.
I've been drinking my hubbys muscle milk shakes with 20gm protein and 150 calories on DDs and they really hold me through. I'll really work to keep up my UD calories.

Newbie here, starting Monday

I am a total newbie, haven't even started JUDDD yet, just gathering some good recipes and reading about it as much as I can so I am prepared; I love to find good tips. I did two rounds of hcg last year, from March through end of July, with a long break in between. Got to goal weight. Then, from August through now, I have gained all the weight back, not because of eating anything wrong. I still eat P3, paleo style; I never introduced starches or sugar so I'm still eating that way. It's amazing to me that I haven't had sugar and don't care about it anymore. I do eat plenty of good healthy fats and grass fed meats and veggies normally. I'm not sure what is going on with me, but I gained weight, 2-3 lbs with each TOM and then, the weight doesn't drop back off (like it does with water weight on TOM). So, with each cycle I've gained and then, sometimes I have tried losing it with correction days or fruit flushes or whatever and if I lose it, it just comes right back on that same week. I kind of gave up on doing that and so each month, I just gain the weight. Horribly frustrating. So, I think some how hcg messed me up hormonally, but I am also a mom of 2 kids and 43 years old. All I've been trying to do is lose the baby weight from the second kid (who is already 4 years old . I tried everything to lose that last 15 lbs and nothing worked until hcg. I exercise a lot and love it (never helped to lose the weight, though).
Anyway, I am thinking of using the recipes I liked from hcg diet and menus that equaled 500 calories. I'm used to cooking everything in CO but I suppose it's better to not use CO when doing a DD, right? I wanted to keep eating a coconut oil treat I eat with cocoa even on DDs...just 1T of CO and 1T of cocoa and stevia. But do you think I should not have that on DD? CO can add up a lot of calories but it is filling, too.
I think the UDs are going to be really tough for me because I am not used to eating much at all. I think I normally eat around 1200 calories or 1300 max. But I am also very petite at 5'.
Looking for good advice, recipes for both days, and support. Thanks all .

Looking forward to trying JUDDD.

Welcome, cdwrites! You will find friendship here and support and encouragement. Plus lots of help and suggestions if you have questions. And it doesn't really matter too much what you decide to include in your diet or exclude, on either UDs or DDs.. it's a whole lot more about the calorie totals than about the food choices themselves.

I would skip coconut oil on DDs, simply because of it's a high calorie fat. I need FOOD to fill me on DDs. But, you may find it works wonderfully well for you.

Looking forward to Monday when you will start with us here.

Edited to add: If you need any help with figuring what your correct calorie numbers should be, you need to post your current weight, but maybe you already have your numbers figured! Anyway, welcome! lol

Thanks SoHappy! What a nice welcome . I think you're right about skipping the CO on DDs. But I'll be happy knowing I can have lots of CO on UPs, right? I think UDs are going to be really hard for me. I don't know what the calorie count is supposed to be for UD. I thought I would just eat what I want. Is it important to keep close track? I use fit day for awhile now, but I'm not crazy about it...it seems off on calories a lot.
I am 5ft, exercising about 4 days per week (moderate intensity), and I weigh 122 right now. I don't have too much to lose. I was thinking of exercising only on UP days. Is that a good idea? I want to get back to my goal weight, which is around 113, a range of 113-115. Thanks for your help.

If you can eat freely on your UDs and stay right around 1500/1525 calories, and hold your DDs to 500 calories or fewer, you will do wonderfully and be losing the pounds well too, is my guess.

And you can certainly enjoy coconut oil on your UDs.. many here do!

Since you are petite, your maintenance calorie number is less than that for bigger gals. Of course, your weight loss calorie number will, therefore, be smaller as well.

So.. here is my question: Do you think that the few pounds you said you gained each month could be because you are eating at a higher calorie level than your metabolism can burn now that you are in your 40s? I ask this only because it is so, so, so common for women to be running along smoothly, staying pretty slim and trim with their weight under control, not even having to think about it sometimes, and then - WHAM! They hit the 40s and the metabolism goes down in flames for some horrible reason! Well, ask me how I know. Except for me it waited until my 50s.

But that is a common thing that happens to women, and I wondered if you were still eating the same as ever, but the metabolism has slowed down, and so now.. you haven't changed anything, but you're actually overeating for the slower metabolism you have these days. And that is resulting in you gaining a couple of pounds each month. (Just a thought.)

Anyway, looks like your UD calories will come in at about that 1500/1525 range for your Up Days.

Welcome cdwrites.

I posted to you on the cabbage thread, but we have some similarities. (one being in our 40's with a young child--I'm 46 and my youngest is 5. I also follow a paleo woe, and love co, but I do limit it to my UD's. Coconut oil bark is my standard afternoon snack on UD's).

DD's were MUCH easier for me than UD's at first. I was accustomed to eating to hunger, and for me that got me about 1100 calories a day. Eating 1500 seemed like SO MUCH FOOD! But I found that by adding an egg and some avocado to my lunch salad, plus my co bark, I could up it without feeling overfull. Add in a handfull of nuts and you've got the extra calories you need.

It is important to eat up to your UD calories. As Pat so eloquently explains, the magic of JUDDD happens when you pound up and down between the UD and DD calories. That gap is important. And if the metabolism has slowed, forcing it to deal with a higher level of calories on your UD somehow helps to heal it.

Also, at 1500 and 500 (my numbers too), your 2 day average is going to be 1000, so that is below what you've been taking in. Should certainly induce weight loss.

Can't wait for you to jump in.

Thanks my kids teacher and Pat. I am hoping for some magic. Pat, I have been so disciplined about entering in fit day almost every day for the whole past year. I don't think my metabolism is to blame unless it has slowed due to eating too little, rather than too much. I've gone through long stretches of eating close to 1,000 calories to try to lose weight. OFten, I'll under eat. I really don't overeat, but I do eat higher fat normally...so my fat percentage is about 70-75% of daily calories (all healthy fats) and then, I fall around 20%, and then super low carb. I only eat veggies for carbs with some yogurt on occasion and I've gone long stretches of avoiding dairy entirely with no benefit and no problems when introducing it. And also exercising as much as I do would tend to help my metabolism. I have been a runner for 15 years but I am not a marathon runner so I don't think I'm overdoing the running either. I run for stress relief and not more than 45 minutes but have reduced this to 30 minutes and only 2-3 times per week.
But I did have my second child at 38. I gained 40 lbs with my second, same exactly as my first, but couldn't get the extra 10-15 off this time. Got it off with hcg. The weight gain each month always coincides with TOM and not with eating any particular foods so I'm thinking more of a hormonal imbalance that could be the beginning of perimenopause. I am worried about it just continuing so I feel like I need to stay on top of it. It feels out of control to me to just gain each month and not be eating any differently. Thanks.

Starting Tomorrow with DD

I think I am ready for tomorrow. I am eating more today, kind of like an UD, eating more fat and just trying to fill up so I am not hungry tomorrow for DD.
Here's what I have planned for tomorrow.

B/L
Tea with cream
Ground Beef Chili with Tomato, 100g of beef, chopped up whole tomato

Dinner: Chicken with Cabbage, 100g of chicken, 3 cups of cabbage, 1 laughing cow baby bell

just under 500 calories

How does this look for my first DD?
