Thank you so much for all of the info! It's good to know that many people start with 'normal' food on DDs right from the get go.
I'm 5'4" and about 129 pounds right now. Oh, and I'm 24 years old. I used the calorie calculator on the JUDDD website, and used the 30% weight loss and light exercise 1-3x/week options. In reality, I normally exercise 4-5 times, with a couple high intensity workouts and a couple running workouts in there, but I don't want to overestimate calories. I guess the only way to see if this would work for me would be to give it a try! I would probably try to stay around 500 for DDs and 1800 for UDs and see how that goes, initially. BUT, if anyone has any input or opinion on those numbers, I would love to hear! I'm going to keep reading and 'studying' for a couple days before I decide for sure, but it's great to know there are such helpful people here!

Oh, you know - I do have another question.
I have read (on the JUDDD website) that for induction, only use the 20% of calories number for DDs. Wellll, when I input my goal weight (120ish) and what not, I get 375. I just don't know if I can do 375. 500, yes...but 375, I don't know. Did anyone go beyond this 20% number when they were first starting? |

Hi Hay.
I just started JUDDD a week ago, and jumped right in with real food. I've been doing paleo/primal since August, and have lost most of what I want to lose too, but like this woe for the freedom I think it will give in maintenance (I still have a couple pounds I want to shed before I get there). Lean protein and lots of veggies, along with some broth on dd's gets me through just fine. We're pretty close on stats (I'm 5'4" and 131), but I'm older than you and don't exercise much. And I'm still using 500 for my dd's, but sticking with 1500-1600 for UD (mainly because I simply can't eat more than that without feeling totally and completely stuffed). I've lost a pound in my first 6 days (expect a little bouncing the first couple days), and am hoping for another pound gone tomorrow for my first official weigh in. The only way you'll know is to just jump in and do it. It's really not that hard. The DD sounds scary, but it's really not. Most of us actually find it harder to eat to the UD calories because of the appetite suppression that kicks in. (ha, listen to me sounding like I'm an old-timer!). |

I also started with real food. I couldn't go a day without REAL food and like the reast of the JUDDDers here, eat very well on my DDS - I just don't eat much.
I found that 500cals on a DD was too strict for me so my DDs average between 600 and 700. It's easier and I don't feel deprived at all. |

Wow, you all are so helpful. Thank you! I think I'm going to give this a try and see how I do. I *think* Fridays will typically be my one medium day a week, so I guess today I'll just be eating close to how I normally do.

Hi I'm Bev
Pleased to meet you all. So pleased to find a decent forum for the Juddd diet! This my second go. I started it some time last year, but then got sidetracked on to intermittent fasting which didn't work for me and I lapsed. This time I'm going to stick with this plan |

Bev,I'm glad you found us here. This is the best group of JUDDDers I've found. Everyone's so supportive and there's such a wealth of knowledge to be had in this forum. I started just under 6 weeks ago and find I don't need to go over 500 on DDs. As you move on, it seems the natural appetite suppression kicks in and makes them a breeze. Everyone is different though, and that's what makes this plan so great. I wish you the best of luck. Sounds like you're already into the swing of things and are doing great.

Here I go! I've been around LCF since 3/11 but have posted maybe 3 times. I'm nervous to put myself out there but I think it's time. I started on atkins and did well. I lost 35lbs and have been about the same weight since last august. At first I kept telling myself 'at least I'm not gaining'. I still want to lose 15-20 lbs. I was really feeling frustrated when I kept reading about the success on JUDDD. What do I have to lose? Besides the rest of the weight! I figure the worst that can happen is I'll stay where im at. So this is my second DD. So far so good. You all seem so excited and positive. Just what I need!

Thank you so much. I'm excited to try something new and see the scale move again. So far I'm good on my calories. It's just getting used to looking at the calories not just carbs that is hard.

It's exciting to have more new folks joining us here! Welcome!
I expect you to have great success on the JUDDD plan, eating the foods that are your choices, that make you feel the healthiest and happiest. My best little tidbit of advice is to spend some of your extra time in reading past postings here, as that will help you really become an old pro at this very quickly... the plan is so simple and easy to do that there is very little to have to learn about it. I'm sure you all will do great! ![]()

Hi, Everyone. Special thanks to Pirate Jenny for answering all of my questions a number of posts back.
I am at the end of my 3rd DD. That makes 5 days on JUDDD so far. ![]() I realized that I misread the calories on my coconut oil omega 3 supplement, so I had been doing more like 600 cals per induction DD the first 2. I went ahead with that number again today. Hopefully that won't prevent my having good results with this. When I first read Pirate Jenny's suggestion for dealing with my outing today falling on a DD, (fasting, then using all my day's calories at the restaurant on the one meal), I was dubious that I could pull it off. Fortunately, I woke up quite late today (Previous tendency to ALWAYS wake having slept too few hours has turned around in the past 2 days- Hallelujah!! If that is down to JUDDD, I'm eternally grateful). I mixed up a double glass of a 15 calorie vitamin and electrolyte lemonade I had in my cupboard. I sipped 1/2 of it while getting ready and driving to the first part of the event (movie). I sipped a little more on the way from the movie to the dinner, and did a good job of ordering low cal at the restaurant. Even though it took FOREVER for the food to come out to our large group, I was just fine So far, the bigest problem I have are the UDs. It's a challenge to eat the number of calories that I have for them- after all of that long term moderate eating that didn't result in much weight loss. I managed it yesterday with a glass of wine and a barbeque dinner. It's pretty interesting how many calories you can get into a big bowl of oatmeal by adding nuts and dried fruit to it, too. So, I guess I can manage it. I just wasn't prepared for it to be hard!

Hey, Fleur! Glad I could help, and good job so far!
It's funny how many people say UDs are harder than DDs! I'm not one of those! ![]() I think JUDDD does help with sleeping better. I have been having really complicated, really LONG dreams almost every night--it's like watching a movie! |
