to all the Newbies here! It's so nice to see that some have already been JUDDDing with great success and I would like to recommend a few threads (and there are many more not listed and I suggest you look around for them) that will help some with the DD that in the beginning can be a little rough around the edges until we get them figured out and our bodies adjust. Then there is the "bouncing scale", but you will see it a normal thing and after a while it is just something that "happens" when you are a JUDDDer!

I hope this threads help, and looking forward to seeing all your success posts in the future!

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...

The Scale, She "BOUNCES"!!

YOU GOTTA EAT!!

JUST GIVE IT A CHANCE, 2 WEEKS IS ALL!!

Do you start with an UD or DD?

Water weight as a normal part of us.... Why is the thought of it so hard to take?

Hello, I'm SlowSure. I've been eating lower-carb for sometime (several years) and my weight has been within acceptable limits.

However, earlier this year, after increasing problems with my joints and back, I decided that it might be helpful to reduce my weight from the top end of the 'normal' BMI range to the lower end. Towards the end of June I started restricting my calorie intake as well and have been losing between 200-400g per week. I've managed to shed 16lbs or so but the last 2lbs took more than a month and I finally broke the stall by reducing my calorie intake to about 600-700 calories per day.

I don't think it's sustainable to eat that little without over-taxing my resolution so I'd like to switch to JUDDD. Even if it does take longer to reach my goal, I feel that I'd stand more chance of success if I can enjoy the process rather than resent it and feel constantly deprived.

Thank you all for some many useful threads which have been invaluable in persuading me to try out this way of eating.

Wonderful to see another UK Juddd follower. I am sure this will work for you. I did much the same as you until 130 lbs. JUDDD has got me down so quickly and easily to 123 lbs, below maintenance, a good thing in December! I love it.

Today I weighed my self and I finally saw a number I haven't seen in awhile. So far I have lost 7 lbs. It has taken almost a month and a few struggles. Thank you for all your support. Thank you Beeb for your encouragement! It really helped! I want to be at goal before my daughter graduates high school in June!

Awwww.....you are MORE than welcome, my JUDDD BUDDD and so glad I could help! OK, now 7 pounds in 1 month is NOTHING to sneeze at!! That is an average of 1.75 pounds a week and that is just amazing!!! I see you in a brand new, much smaller dress size by the time your DD graduation comes along in June and I hope you take lots of pictures to show us!!

to ALL the Newbies and so to see you joining our JUDDD family! This IS a way of eating for life because it lets us live life without worry about what we can and can't have. This, for me, took all the stress away from food and put fun back into my eating! I hope you all find this happens for you, too!

Hey there!
I have not been able to read this entire thread, so please forgive me while I'm getting to know everyone.
I am just starting my 2nd week doing JUDDD and I've been pleased with what's happened so far. I'm down about 2.5 lbs, and I found it fairly effortless. I like the DDs - I have some digestive problems and I've found that the DDs help my tummy ouchies nicely. I discovered this doing hHCG, as well. hHCG worked okay for me but I never really got to the 0 hunger spot and although I tried it 4 times, I only actually made it through 2x for the 3 weeks and while the weight I hit the 1st time around became my new set point, the 2nd time didn't. So I couldn't see going forward without continual struggle and bouncing around, although I was willing to do it until I was playing around one day on this site and started reading the JUDDD threads!
So now I'm here!
I've done LC for many years on and off (but mostly on) - it is very helpful for my insulin resistance and I wholeheartedly believe that refined carbs and sugars are not healthy for people, but I never was able to lose weight doing LC. Cutting calories seemed to be the only way, and I find counting calories SO DREARY that I would give up after a pretty short while. Also, for a long time I thought I couldn't lose weight at all, but now that I've dealt with my IR (I take medication) it seems I am able to drop weight after all.
So far on JUDDD I've been really good about watching my DD calories (less than 500), but since my UD calories are so high (2400? seemed really high!) I haven't been watching them that closely. I am trying to eat whole foods and while I'm not eating LC, am definitely watching my sugar intake. I am also gluten intolerant, so a lot of easy, fast, junkie high calorie eats are out of the question for me.
I'm psyched to be here! Seems like you all are full of knowledge.

Hey Agee!

If you calculated your calories on the official JUDDD website, that calculator's default is kilos. If you are very tall and/or active, those calories may be correct, but if you think they're too high, and you put in your weight in pounds, double-check!

That's so cool that JUDDD helps you with "tummy ouchies".

Oh, I got that the first time I did it and it said I could eat 3800 calories! I was like - WHAT? I LOVE this WOE!
But in recalculating I was right - 20% weight loss mode is 2274 calories (I was off by 100 some, but I was remembering) and 455 on DDs. I put in moderate exercise 3-5 days/week, which is the case for me. I have actually been pretty sick the past month so haven't been doing much of anything besides coughing, but normally I walk 3-4 miles 4-5 days/week. I started back up again on Weds. and will be back to my normal routine this weekend.
2274 seems like a lot! I should probably start tracking it, but like I said, since I can't eat a lot of the different foods out there due to being gluten intolerant, it's actually a challenge to hit that amt.

Thank you so much. I've taken aback by how well JUDDD has worked for me this week (approx. 3lb which is unknown for me). I've no idea if next week will be similar but if it is I will pass a small milestone in my head that will be a substantial motivation booster.

It's pretty amazing how well this works, even for those of us who just got to a point that low carb alone wasn't cutting it anymore. It was especially frustrating to just need to lose a few more pounds to make goal. But it works, if you work it.

I've never heard of JUDD before today. Sounds really interesting! I've enjoyed reading this thread very much. Started out on page one and read about 5 pages, then skipped around. This might be something I need to learn more about. Has anyone read the book? Is it a good read and informative? What I mean is, is it easy to follow?

Some diet books get so technical I can't figure out the basic plan.

Yam I've glanced through the book, but the info on here is pretty concise Yes it's super easy to follow!
Go to: johnsonupdaydowndaydiet for the calorie calculator recommended by the author, though the calories it gives you for "up" days seem kind of high, it's a good place to start
For down days, most people start at 500 calories, even if the calculator suggests lower. 500 is doable - check the recipe sticky and the daily "what are you eating" threads for ideas

Thanks, Dottie!

I went to it and the calculator says 496 for DD and 2446 for UD. You are right. The UD sounds really high.

Try going one activity level lower than what you think you're doing...see if that seems more reasonable...that's what I usually do.

Also, you can choose a higher percentage on your DDs; 20% is the lowest option.

It's only around $9 on Amazon. I'll probably order it.

I got up and went right to the gym this morning for a 90 minute workout. Now I'm heading out for a dentist appointment. Not my favorite way to spend the day!

Thanks for all the good insight. This is a great thread.

I just ordered the book. So, I figured if I start today w/ a DD then Christmas Day will work out to be an UP and that sounds good. It's 2:30 pm and all I've had so far is 2 cups of coffee w/ half and half, lots and lots of ice water and two glasses of iced green tea. I'm roasting 2 chicken breasts smothered in onions. Smells great and I'm planning on having that w/ wilted spinach and then fat free Greek yogurt. I'll stick to 500 calories for today and see what happens. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks for the support and info!

Thanks for all the welcomes as well.
