Hi!

I think I am going to give JUDDD a try starting Monday. I've read lots of threads and started reading the sticky for DDs and realized there was for too much info to remember in that thread. I am going to start back at the begining and take some notes.

I have a lot of weight to lose and have never really been successful at anything. I am actually at the point where I am considering WLS becuase I am at my wit's end where the weight is concerened. Why couldn't I have lost the weight when i was younger and had an unstoppable metabolism? But I didn't and peri-menapuase is throwing a wrench into it. It seems like I only have a week or so out of the month where I can actually lose weight anymore.

I have been to the JUDDD website and will go back again to make sure I have my calories right.

Do you all think I really should start at 20% for a DD? That's only about 500 calories and I don't know if I can go that low.

Do you weigh everyday? If I start on Monday and then when I get to the next Monday, it will be after an UP when I weigh again. I am thinking that will put me at a higher weight. Does that even matter?

Anyway, i am going to make out a shopping list for tomorrow morning. I am thinking I need to eat higher protein with lots of veg on my lower days.

I am going to give myself at least a full month on this to see what happens.

Hi, Kathleen! Welcome to JUDDD! :welcome:

You're going to love it, and I'll bet it won't take you very long to get your calories for Up Days and Down Days adjusted where they need to be and where you can stick with it. LOL And then I'll bet you are going to be very, very happy with the weight loss as you just sort of go about living your life, while you are turning into a slim woman as the weeks and months go by. It's pretty fun!

As you know, I am sure, there are no forbidden foods on JUDDD, but you're well advised to go at that freedom very, very slowly. If you have been doing low carb and you start to include very much additional carb back into your diet, you may well find yourself regaining some of the water weight that you initially lost on your low carb plan. That is awfully frustrating, although we realize it isn't FAT. But we always hate to see that regain show up on the scale if we choose to eat the carbs.

As you are making your plans, feel free to ask all your questions. Everyone here is very friendly and supportive, and really pro JUDDD because it works so sweetly, even when other plans just didn't.

Glad you're joining us! Welcome, once again. :welcome:

Thank Pat! i haven't been doing LC-i was doing WW, but fell off that wagon a month ago. So no fall-out from suddenly eating carbs. I think I am going to go with the highest calories allowed on DD, for at least the first week. It may turn out that i don't feel that I need them after doing this for a bit? Anyway, i just read on the JUDDD site that energy levels are supposed to really improve, and boy do I look forward to that! Maybe I can finally get my closet cleaned out.:p

I also had promised myself that I was going to give weightloss one more serious try before scheduling an appointment with a bariatric surgeon. Something I don't really want to do, but will if I find I just cannot do anything else.

That sounds like a plan! Come here and read, read, read! I think that's one of the best ways there is to learn about this plan, and how to work it, and how others make it work for them. And what people choose to eat, and how they manage to get through their low calorie Down Days, etc. etc.

I look forward to you success here!

Hi, Kathleen! :welcome:

To address some of your questions...I shoot for 500 calories on DDs. My UD target is 1610, if that's helpful. Like you, Monday will be a DD for me too. But I organize my days so that every Monday is a DD (except for this week when I just jumped in on a tuesday.) I like to do M-W-F DDs so that I get three of them in a week, and they have been easiest for me to do at work. Hence, the M-W-F schedule. I just toss in a MD on either Saturday or Sunday so that my
Monday can be another DD.

Additionally, I tend to only weigh myself after DDs. With a set schedule of DDs, I can weigh from week to week and be on the same type of day, if that's what you're asking.

Glad you're here in our little beck of the woods! I hope you enjoy it!

Welcome kathleen.

You will find we do things different. Some keep to strict juddd rules and some make up their own like me...lol. I do it a lot like andrea. Mon, wed and fri are my DDs. I try to stay under 600 but sometimes go to 700 cals on DDs and under 1700 on UDs. I eat protein and raw veggies on my DDs. Boiled eggs, tuna muffins or tuna packets, protein drinks and zucchini, cucumber, broccoli and celery, and then big salads for dinner. I have found doing this I'm not even that hungry. I will get the pangs once in a while but they don't last long and I just pull out my baggie of cut up veggies and munch on em and it does the trick. Good luck and keep us posted and I am one that has to weigh everyday. Good or bad its just what I hae to do.

:welcome: So sorry I missed your thread on Saturday! :hugs:

I started JUDDD by upping my DD calories because I KNEW that the 325 that was suggested for my DDs was NEVER going to be enough to get me to stay on this plan to see if it was going to work. I would have given up after the second DD, I'm very sure!:down:

So, I upped my DD cals to 700 and just left the UD cals alone. It worked like magic for me, as I'm sure you have read! :o

Anyway, I would like to make just 2 STRONG suggestions: Do the plan, with an DD tweak, if you feel you may need to, BUT do it exactly as suggested. Weigh, measure, journal! These things are VERY important, especially on DDs so you KNOW how much you are eating. AND do it for at least 2 weeks. 2 days, an UD and a DD is NOT going to tell you if this JUDDD plan is for you or not. You need to give it a chance and remember the plan will work IF you work it! :D

I weigh everyday, but that is just me. I do it to keep myself honest and to see if I am in need of a tweak here or there. This works well for me, but again, that is what works for me. I always say each person needs to find what works for them, and them alone. My way is NOT the right way, only the right way for ME!

Glad to have you on board and hope you enjoy and  JUDDD as much I do!

I am absolutely weighing, measuring and journaling. Even my lettuce gets weighed! Fortunately, I never had a problem doing these things with WW, so those skills will help me out with JUDDD.

It's funny how we never forget our dieting "skills"! I too am using stuff I learned in WW and South Beach on this WOE! Good to have those tools, isn't it! :high5:

Linda-yep-chronic dieter here. At least I will make some use of what I have learned.

Thanks Jo! I am so excited to start seeing results!

If I had only put *two and two* together years ago. I could have been cycling way back then.

But I know myself well enough to know that I wouldn't have cut my DD calories so low, so it maybe wouldn't have worked nearly as well anyway. sigh...

Instead I weighed and measured my food and counted the calories and held myself down every single day, and eventually slowed my metabolism and gave up the horrible diet that resulted in me being kinda' hungry most days and eventually stopped working anyway.

If I had only known to cut down really low one day, and then have a really good feasting day the next, clear way up to the top of my maintenance calorie range. Alas...

But knowing to actually measure my food and to keep track of every calorie has sure stood me in good stead with JUDDD. It awakened the Magic!
