That's very kind, thank you.

Ht: 5ft 4.
Wt: 140lbs or so.
Age 51 (post-menopausal)
Activity level: sedentary (post-injury, currently having herniated disc flare-up)

UD - calculator level approx. 1600cals - I typically eat 1200-1350cals because of my very low activity levels
DD - approx 320cals

Prior to starting JUDDD 11 December, I'd restricted my calorie intake from late June and it took a long time to lose 4kgs, the last lb of that was achieved when I spent a week eating 600-700 cals a day. I did that immediately prior to starting JUDDD.

Sweetie: Looks like you weighed after an UD. Don't do it! Or, if you do, don't pay any attention to it! On UDs your body hangs on to water. Your tissues just fill up with it. But it does not mean that fat burning has stopped!!! Trust me. Take your measurements. Take them every day if you have to! The fat is melting, melting...... that said, we all feel your pain..... Hang in there!

Oh! Thank you! Thank you very much! So many people are telling me I look great. And you know what? I feel great! I don't even mind looking in to a full length mirror naked! lol! It's just that I'm shopping now and buying size 12 and I started this at a size 18 (skin tight!) on August 1st. Today I noticed the 12 jeans are baggy in the legs. WWWWWHHHHHaaaaaattttt??? So cool. Me three! (I'm not counting you, SlowSure, as I am not going to think about not losing after that length of time yet. ) I as at 185.0 this morning after an awesome DD yesterday. (The day before I did go over by about 400 calories, which was the first time I went over since starting on 12/26). I am down by seven pounds since starting 12 days ago, but I was at 185.4 on 1/1, so six days ago! Gah! BUT looking back over my weigh-ins just now I realized that 185.0 is a new low since starting JUDDD, and it's by almost half a pound, so that's not insubstantial, right? So, I'm going to look at this as progress... especially if I am a smidge lower after my next DD.

I am feeling fairly upbeat about it all given my slow loss. I do feel pretty happy doing JUDDD. And like you all said the DD are especially good somehow. I am contemplating having a chocolate bar later, which would be my first real sugar treat. Not sure though.... lol

When I read this, it makes me wonder if you aren't one of us who may need a little time to heal. You don't say at what level you were dieting prior to the week you did a semi-fast at 600-700 calories, but 4 kg lost us not even quite 9 pounds, so a pretty slow weight loss.

OK, so this tells us that you have a pretty slow metabolism right now. One of the things you will hope for and work for can be to increase the rate of your metabolic burn a little bit. There are never any guarantees that it will work, but that is one of the benefits that many of us have been gifted with since starting JUDDD. And the better the metabolism, the faster the burn! Yay!

The second thing is, at 5'-4" and 140 pounds you are fairly close to what most would consider an ideal weight for your height. I think the *rule of thumb* is 5 to 10 pounds per inch above 5 feet a woman stands. Of course, that doesn't take into consideration many factors, so is indeed merely a rule of thumb. Just saying that many women do find weight loss pretty slow going as they get close to goal weight.

When I entered your stats into the JUDDD Calorie Calculator, it came up with a figure of normal Up Day calories of 1591. This is with almost no exercise, as you indicated. Then the fasting Down Day numbers were given as 318 at a 20% fast level, 398 at a 25% fast level, and 477 calories at the 30% fasting level. (I also entered your stats into freedieting and it came up with an calorie number of 1484 for your maintenance level (UD) calories.)

You say you typically only eat 1200-1350 calories on your UDs because of your low exercising ability right now.

I know others may have their opinions too, but may I suggest this: Could you attempt to eat about 1550 calories or so on all of your Up Days? You have indicated that you only eat about 320 calories on your DDs right now anyway, so those days will be perfect! But if you could allow yourself to spend a bit of time just eating along the lines of the JUDDD recommendations and not worry whether you lose so much as a gram, I think it might do your body a world of good. I believe the alternating of high and low calories, the cycling of fasting and feasting, will allow your body to heal itself, and then start losing weight.

I think your body needs the peace of fasting days, days of not having to expend energy digesting food and attending to all of that, and then also the nourishment of a wide range of healthful food choices making up your UD calories, to repair and strengthen and soothe your body, and your soul too.

What would be your thoughts and response to this idea?

Thanks all. I just need to be patient here, just having a little pity party this morning, that's all. I started JUDDD on 10/20 at 150 pounds. I lost 5 pounds before Thanksgiving, hitting a new low at 145 and declaring my 10 month stall over. Then I started having very high up days on the weekends and the holiday parties started, and even though I was JUDDDing, I wasn't losing. Then I basically took a diet vacation the 10 period around and between Christmas and New Years and gained back the 5 pounds I had lost plus gained three. So, when I got back on track on Monday, I was at 153. I've had 2 down days, and hit 150 on Tuesday. I just didn't expect to bounce up to 153 again today since I had a very low carb, calorically reasonable up day yesterday.
I know I just need to be patient, who knows what I will weight in the morning!

Okay.. I actually feel a lot better about this now. I had leaped to the assumption that you were doing careful JUDDD and it wasn't working for you, and I was feeling so bad about that. I still feel unhappy for you, but more understanding of the situation now. Hope you had a fabulous *diet vacation*, and if you are getting back into the routine once again now, I expect the weight loss will start in again too.

I'm at 140#, where I was 3 days ago. I had a Wendy's JR. bacon cheeseburger + value fries before bed, so that may have had something to do with it too

Today is going to be a gorgeous day outside, and I feel better thanks to my body readjusting to the Metformin (after I almost stopped taking it over the holidays - was so busy I forgot to take meds and supplements at regular times or at all).

Looking forward to seeing more reports from you all.

Woah! After a free day and then a higher calorie but very low carb DD, I hit an all time low of 111.6??? Yesterday, I had 642 calories but only 13 carbs. I usually eat less than 500. The day before I had a free day, and ate like a champ - Lebanese food and everything. Probably 2000+ calories. The day before that was an up day, too!

I must have releases some extra water or something due to the low carb day? Regardless, I'll definitely be having a free day today and eating whatever I want at my potluck party tonight.

My last few days:

3 415 113.8 Down
4 2186 113.2 Up
5 2000 113.4 Free estimated
6 642 113.6 Down
7 ? 111.6 Free

LOLOLOL I'll bet that's exactly what some folks will be thinking.

When I did only low carb foods, there was often very little at pot lucks to put on my plate, and I definitely looked like I was on a diet. Now I just arrange for occasions like this to be UDs, and I put a little of anything that looks delicious on my plate and enjoy it all!

Yup.. you're right.. Gotta love JUDDD!

Wow, Julie! I think I was 12 the last time I saw 111. Enjoy your potluck!

I had a good UP yesterday, within my calorie limits but higher carb than usual. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with my kids. But I woke up at the lowest 185-number I have yet after an UD. Yesterday, I was 185.0 and then today 185.2. I think I am, at a snail's pace, moving towards getting out of 185. And once I do, I swear I am going to put the biggest buffer between me and 185 that I can. I never wanna be 185 again.

last weeks good weight loss has no been found by the lovely bounce that JUDDD likes to do to me every once in a while. Keep losing and gaining that same pesky pound.

Today is a DD and I am going to do my best to keep it as low as possible to make sure that pound takes some friends with it.

I dont check in on this thread enough. This is where i need to come to get inspiration. You guys are doing so great. I will be glad when it starts working for me like this. Im hoping that now that the holidays are over and things are normal again i will start leveling out. AFter my whole bottle of wine and fruit that had been sitting in rum all day over the new years weekend i was 150 mon morning!!! I havent been that heavy in forever. I was 146 this morning so i lost some of it. Im still not where i want to be, which is about 140 but i knwo i will get there if i keep hanging on. I know im loving JUDDD and whats hard for me is really sticking to anything. I did make a committment to myself to cut down on the salty nuts and i have done that. All week i have only nuts a couple of times and they were raw almonds. I think the salty nuts cause major cravings and i end up binging on them and other things. This week has been a really good JUDDD week adn really my first real normal week since before thanksgiving. Now that all of that is over maybe i can get to some losing!!! Im hoping to be where some of you are pretty soon, where i can have those FDs once in awhile. I am going to treat myself to a burrito from taco bell tomorrow i think. I havent had them in forever and everytime i see that commercial for the burrito with the hot fritos i salivate. Im sure it wont be near as good as i think it will be in my head but im gonna get one and at least try it and maybe eat the whole thing, who knows.
Thanks you guys for being here. This is great!!!!!

Hey Everyone:

Great posts. Lots of food for thought. Our bodies are all so different, aren't they?

I had a great UD yesterday w/ T-bone steak, veggies, potato and red wine for dinner. yum! Even had a scoop of ice cream for dessert.

Yesterday morning the scale was down -2 pounds after a good DD the day before. Today it went up the same +2 pounds. lol. Bouncy, bouncy!

Today is exactly 2 weeks since I started JUDD. I weigh exactly -.2 less than the day I started. So, now I'm thinking my body should be getting used to this WOE and maybe my metabolism will start to speed up now. I've read that it takes 2 weeks sometimes for the body to get used to it. I'm fine with that since I already lost 31 pounds on LCing.

Wonder if my body is in shock from getting some carbs every other day.

Hello all--
I've been very frustrated, feeling like I haven't been losing, but I went back and AVERAGED my weight for the last few weeks, and I have been losing!!! Even through and after the holidays! Weeks I thought I'd gained, I'd actually just been stalled, and weeks I though I'd stalled, I'd actually lost a little bit; it's just been a pound or a fraction of a pound each week, which is not as exciting as my first few weeks of JUDDD...but it's still good! Especially considering there have been at least 2 weeks of extra yummy food and DDs that didn't go quite as planned!

averages week ending:
Oct 31: 284.0
Nov 7: 278.2 <--whoo-hoo, look at that whoosh!!!
Nov 14: 278.3
Nov 21: 278.1
Nov 28: 276.6
Dec 5: 276.9
Dec 12: 275.9
Dec 19: 275.6
Dec 26: 274.1
Jan 2: 274.6

When I take my weekly or monthly weight as the "official" one, I don't always see an encouraging pattern. So I just wanted to post this as a suggestion for anyone feeling frustrated--check your averages!

ETA: Oops, looks like there was a 1/2lb gain last week. But it's still a whole pound down from before Christmas, and this week is shaping up to be 273.something.

Good for you!

I had such weight fluctuations on the scale from day to day that I never could tell quite whether I was losing or not occasionally. The only thing I could do was write down my weight each morning and then average the seven days together to get my average for each week... week after week. And I usually saw that average being a lower number each week.

It was also fun to record the high weight and the low weight for each week too, because often that lowest point of the week was real close to the average of the following week. When I saw each new low weight, I knew I'd be seeing that again soon.

Slow weight loss is better than no weight loss, and considering we are only *dieting* half the time and eating amazingly well the other half of the time with little thought to a weight loss diet at all, I sometimes think it's amazing that we lose weight at all! And yet, as the days pass, we lose more and more.

Adding that it looks like you're losing just over a pound per week, so that isn't doing too badly, is it? You like your way of eating, and that's important so you can stick with it, and if it just keeps on like this, you will just become slimmer as the weeks pass. That's pretty exciting.
