My numbers are also around yours from the start last week when I began JUDDD and knew for me 500 cal would be too low so I'm UD 600 and UD 1700-1800 and I've lost 5# in 5 days! I am 5'7 and 53 years old.

Ahhhh, I see...

I am eating all my calories on UD's. I've been doing JUDDD for ten days today! I know I'm being a little impatient.

Jayne (rubidoux): I wonder if the fact that you're Type 1 diabetic has anything to do with not losing after 10 days? I'm also new so I don't know what else it could be, but I'm hoping you'll see the lose soon!!

Today I am going to try to stick to the 1700-1800 and I am going to continue to keep my DD to the 600-700 range. For some reason 500 used to be easy but the last few DD's I have really struggled. I am wondering if JUDDD is really working and my metabolism has speed up and I truly need more. I am trying harder to listen to what my body needs.

I am excited because only 5.8 pounds away from no longer being considered obese on the BMI and just be overweight. Honestly never thought I would see that!
That is JUDDD magic in action.

123.2 today.

So it looks like you are maintaining or even gaining when this happens. But with enough time on JUDDD, the body will give up holding the fat cells in place with water, and you will get a "whoosh" of loss on the scales and in measurement.

So Encouraging!!! I love this!!

Isn't JUDDD awesome?

113.2 this morning which is right around where I like to be. Today was a big carbfest of about 2200 calories but with my 500 calorie DDs, I can totally get away with this every once in awhile. I probably only have 3 good DDs each week but it's working out well for maintenance.

I need some advice. Yesterday was a good DD and today is an UD. So far I've had coffee and oatmeal for a total of 344 calories. I have a get together tomorrow night with friends so I would like tomorrow to be an UD, Saturday a DD, and Sunday an UD. How should I work today? Should I do a MD or eat UD for breakfast/lunch then a DD dinner? Then tomorrow a DD breakfast and lunch with an UD dinner then the party? I'm probably confusing everyone

Here's what I thought would work:
Thurs: MD
Friday: UD
Saturday: DD
Sunday: UD

Or any variation.......

THANKS for any input

Love reading all this good news! Way to go Everyone! You'll soon find your "magic numbers" if you haven't already.

My weight today is 138#!! I do not want to lose anymore!!!

I had a DD yesterday until about 7 p.m. when I switched to FD which continues until this evening.

I'm not feeling real great since I woke up (actually haven't been at 100% all week, makes me wonder if I'm fighting off something) but my appetite wasn't affected negatively all week.

I sort of wonder if my sicky-feeling this morning is from getting back on schedule with taking Metformin. For the last week or so, I'd been lax about taking it. There was one day I didn't take it at all and then sometimes just one per day. Yesterday I took the full day on schedule. It causes me ill-symptoms when I first get on it, and I sort of think it's repeating that on a smaller scale or something since I'm getting back to taking it right. Guess I'll wait and see how I do as the day goes on.

Another question for all you experienced JUDDers:

Some one mentioned new "set points" one day but did not elaborate. I read all of Johnson's book, but don't remember reading anything about set points.

Here is why I'm asking. For the last several days I've been going down 1 pound after DDs and up 1 pound after UDs. Today I weighed exactly the same as I did the day I started JUDDing. (December 19th). Maintaining is ok for a while, but I've reduced my DD and UP calories and still, no big drop. Don't think I can go lower.

As I've said before, I started doing LC on Aug. 1st and lost 30 pounds before starting JUDD. The reason I wanted to try something different was that I felt I was stalled because the scale was not going up or down for several weeks.

Now it's going UP and DOWN on a daily basis. I've been as much as 2 pounds above where I started and several times after DDs I've been more than 3 pounds below. I LIKE THAT LAST PART!!!

I have kept a daily weight chart since August 1st. This morning I pulled it out and really analyzed it. Looks like I go down and then "hang out" at a new low (a bit up or down) for as many as 20 days before starting to drop again.

Is that what it means to have new set points? If anyone has a link to something I could read or if you have experience with or knowledge about this, I would love some elaboration. Thanks in advance.

I really liked the explanation yesterday about fat cells filling up with water and I had never heard that before.

What you've come up with sounds good to me! You could either do the MUDDDg like you've described above where you eat a MD breakfast and lunch today, a DD dinner tonight... a DD b'fast and lunch tomorrow, and then an UD dinner tomorrow night.

Or you could make today a MD, tomorrow an UD, Sat. a DD, etc...

Some others will have more ideas, I'm sure.

That may have been me that mentioned new set points, and I should have been clearer. I just was using it to mean a weight my body seems comfortable hanging around. Most of my life, I've been in the low to mid 140s. After I reached my maintenance in November, I hung around 145# and considered it my "set point". I was probably being careless with the term. Now that I've lost more weight, I decided to try to hang around 143#, so I was calling that my new set point. Sorry for the confusion!

I don't think Dr. J. talked about setpoints but it's been a long time now since I read the book.

Yes we don't want you going lower on calories if you don't have to. Part of the magic of JUDDD is that big swing or gap between DD and UD calories.

And your observation about losing weight and then staying there for a while before losing more, does fall in line with the way the body preserves the fat cells for a while - filling them with water on the chance that those cells will be needed again soon to refill with fat, before letting the cells collapse and go...

Mint and Juliet, it looks like you're really rocking things!

Sophie, I'm sorry you're not feeling so well. I hope it's only a temporary thing. Great weight, though!

Yam-Yam, I hope you figure out why you're struggling to lose. I'm sure that someone here will figure it out. There are so many folks with so much experience here, someone's bound to hit on it.

I'm thrilled to say I'm back to my low weight again today. I'm sure I gained 6 pounds of water weight over last weekend, but it's gone now. It would be nice if those swings would calm down a little, and not be so extreme, but of course, my holiday eating was extreme, lol.

Thanks for your post, Sophie! I googled "set points and weight loss" and found quite a few articles. There is a theory that our bodies have a natural, maybe genetic set point. But, the info I read said you can change your set point if you lose weight and keep it off for 10-12 months. Interesting.

Was 170 your highest weight ever? Then, from your stats and siggy it looks like you did LC from June to October and dropped into the 140s before Judding, right? Did those last 5 pounds you wanted to drop on JUDD come off pretty fast? Or did you have a similar experience to what I'm having.

I am really, really enjoying the JUDD WOE and hope it will take me where I want to go and beyond! So far DDs have not been hard for me and UDs have been so freeing. Just to know I don't have to ban any certain foods for life is great! I can eat them every other day!

Laurie: I'm actually encouraged to hear of the big swings! In the beginning I was sometimes up or down by as much as 4 pounds on different days. You have this down, Girl! I'm learning from all of you.

It's great to know there is a way to recover quickly from holiday indulgence or vacation overload or whatever.

We have a week vacation later this month and another one in early February. I'm planning to stick to my plan, but it's good to know this WOE is so forgiving!

My weight may have been over 170# but I couldn't bring myself to weigh until I'd already been dieting for a week or so! And 170# is what I saw on the scales when I finally weighed.

I gained the weight from November 2009 to June 2010 before I started dieting and walking. Before that, I'd always been fine with weight, except a few instances when I had "attacks" of insulin resistance due to SSRI or in the case of the last and biggest gain - too much sitting + too many cookies and sweets + too much drinking.

Once I saw a picture of myself last June, I knew I had to do something. I started out just reducing carbs and walking. Then I went to LC at the end of July. I was at 150# when I went on JUDDD in mid-October.

I thought it would take me forever to lose those last 5# because people would talk about how hard the last 5 - 10 # is to lose, and I felt I had been losing so slowly (for me) on LC. I know 20+ pounds is fine for 3-1/2 months, but I just felt like for me it was not the way I usually lost weight - too slow and like my metabolism was busted or something, lol. I spent most of my time on LC retaining water. It took me 3 or 4 weeks to lose one pound toward the end of LCg...

Anyway, on JUDDD, the weight flew off in a matter of DAYS. I would have reached goal in a week or week and a half, but then...

I was a pound from goal when I got the idea that I would stop counting UDs and I basically started eating FDs. Probably 2,500 calories or so (I was supposed to stick to 1700-1800 UDs for weight loss). I gained back the weight fast, up to 150#.

Then I spent about another week testing what my exact weight loss numbers were, and once I stuck to them, the weight flew off again and before I knew it I was calling GOAL on October 31.

I lost down to 142# without changing anything, and that's when I decided to just stick right around 145#, and have done that since mid-November.

Until now, when I'm losing more than I intended. I'm at 138# today and I do not want to go any lower.

Once I'd been on JUDDD for a while, it seemed like I got my old fast metabolism back... it healed me enough that I've been able to do FDs without gain, just maintaining.

I'm so glad you're enjoying JUDDD! Sounds like it is THE plan for you in every way!

If you want, you could make a separate thread asking for advice on your calories and any other concerns since more people would be likely to see it on the forum and it wouldn't get buried in here.

Then I spent about another week testing what my exact weight loss numbers were, and once I stuck to them, the weight flew off again and before I knew it I was calling GOAL on October 31.

I really enjoyed reading about your WL experience. And I liked that you were testing or experimenting. Kind of what I'm doing right now. What is SSRI?

One thing I got out of the book is that this WOE will speed up metabolism and I think I need that.

First time I went to the JUDD site it put my numbers at 496 and 2496. Thought the UD sounded high. I went back about 4 days ago and decided to put "sedentary" and I also entered in one inch shorter than I am just to see what the numbers would be. That's when I got 378 - 1880.

So, I thought I would try that this week. I was closer to 2000 cals yesterday, but was very pleased the scale only went up 1 pound and it's a new low for after an UD (even though it is exactly what I weighed the day I started). But, for after a very satisfying UD, I don't think that's a bad thing.

I like this thread very much because it seems like every time I have had a question, someone has a very good answer. And, I feel like I'm doing all the right things because I can read stories like yours. I'm 57 years old and I know my metabolism is waaaaaaay slower than it was when I was younger.

I'm not expecting miracles and as I said yesterday I'm amazed that the inches of fat are melting away. I know fat is light and takes a while to show up on the scale. It's all encouraging. And I think you are right about this being the plan for me. It seems to work with my "hybrid" mix of plans.

Sophie: I also have PCOS. Doc would never prescribe metformin because she believes exercise and diet can manage it. I've read lots of books on PCOS and they all indicate we have to exercise twice as much for half the results. And, they recommend limiting carbs and eating only foods low on the Glycemic Index. Several women in my family are infertile because of it. Just one of those things that runs in our family and I have to accept it and work with it. But it does not make me happy. When I was young my DB introduced me to Stillman's diet and I think that really saved me. Lost 55 pounds @ 15 yrs. old and kept it off until almost 50 yrs. old when I seriously injured my back, became bedridden and got hit w/ change-of-life all @ once. Whacked out hormones and sedentary lifestyle messed me up. But, I'm back on track now!!

Should I do a MD or eat UD for breakfast/lunch then a DD dinner? Then tomorrow a DD breakfast and lunch with an UD dinner then the party? I'm probably confusing everyone

Here's what I thought would work:
Thurs: MD
Friday: UD
Saturday: DD
Sunday: UD

Or any variation.......

THANKS for any input
Sounds good to me! I believe any MD should be followed by an UD!

When I was younger, it worked like a charm, but when I went on/off it again in my mid 30s it had turned evil on me by 1) not really helping my symptoms, 2) by packing the weight onto me, and 3) by giving me bouts of high blood pressure. All went away when I got off it for good, thankfully.

Sophie: Thanks for that info. Bummer that some meds can cause weight gain. Glad you got through it and now just look at you! You are amazing!

Gracie: Sounds like you are really getting the hang of this. Don't you love how flexible it is? We can make it work with our lives and schedules. Yay.

Still bouncing gently around my 133 goal....usually between 132.25 and 133.75.
I discovered that my weight graph chart works out your daily average over the months...and for my last two months my daily average has been 133 exactly!
2 months is the longest I have ever maintained a low weight, so I am well happy.
I am maintaining on a DD/FD rotation.

Happy new Year to all my juddd budds!

hugs
