I did the calculator based on my height and weight with me working out 3-5 days a week and it came out to that. lol When I adjusted it to 1-3 days of working out it brought it down to 800-something.

Counting calories on the DD is probably a lot easier since food choice is more limited. I might not be so strict with counting on UD because I'm a low carber. Not that I will go off and eat the 4000 calories it says I'm allowed. LOL
LC and JUDDD are not mutually exclusive. I do JUDDD LC. (not everyone here does though)

I think that it's important to be consistent in the JUDDD to get the physical benefit from it.

I alternate each day. I have them scheduled UP days, MWF, DDs TWT and MED day Sundays.

My guidelines are UP days, less than 1500 calories and less than 30 carbs.
Down days, less than 500 caloies and less than 20 carbs.
Medium day, less than 1000 calories and less than 30 carbs.

As I lose more weight, my calorie limits will lessen.

I hope this helps!

The calorie calculator said I could have 483 cals on the DDs and 1933 cals on the UDs.
What happens if you can't eat all 1933 cals? I know when I was doing Atkins I always had a hard time keeping my calories above 1300. Does it matter if you dont eat them all on an UD?
Oh, even Dr. Johnson says that the UP calculator is not accurate. I know for me, if I ate all the calories the calculator says I can, I would not lose weight.
I keep mine below 1500, but since I've lost quite a bit, I'm lowering it to 1400.

Also, I keep my carbs low and that sure makes a difference in my hunger and weight loss. Not everyone here restricts carbs on JUDDD, but some of us do.

I had my scheduled Medium Day today and my totals were:

974 Cals

43.3 Fat

29.6 Carbs

110.9 Protein

Fiber 9.3

Tomorrow is my regularly scheduled UP day and I'm shooting for:
Less than 1400 calories and less than 30 carbs.

Have a great night everyone and a wonderful JUDDD day tomorrow!!
Good night!

edens- It's clear that you did the calculations inaccurately. I haven't checked the site in a long while, but I remember that it has two options in terms of how it calculates--only one is actual calories. At a higher weight than yours, my DD calories were 470, and it's extremely rare for anyone to get a number above 500, so I'd suggest you check it again.

Also, as RealFood has mentioned, you can't really do a calorie cycling plan like this unless you know the exact count of everything you eat--in advance. I plan ahead, but I have never used ******. I check any calories I'm not sure of on Calorie King. You can do it anyway you wish, but just 'guessing' isn't a good idea.

Sammykatt- As RealFood has mentioned, the UD calories from the calculator are usually way too high, and even Dr. Johnson admits that they are for 'guidance' rather than to be followed. The way I calculated it was that I knew what I needed to eat to lose on a daily basis and averaged my DD and UD (e.g., suppose you want to be eating 1200 cal a day, and you eat 500 cal on a DD--if you were doing a true alternation, that would mean you could eat as much as 1900 cal on your UD).

I say 'true alternation' because many of us keep our DDs the same. I do DDs on M, W, Fri and 'try' to do a MD on either Sat. or Sun. Often I wind up with two UDs, but it doesn't seem to hurt too much.

Leo - I don't plan on ever eating the full UD limit it said. I think I would have to just drink a full cup of heavy cream to ever get that high of a calorie count! Or just eat all my meals at Carls jr! lol I plan on saying close to 1500 maybe more depending on how I feel.

Today is my UP and that makes me happy! I was starving by the time I went to bed and I had a hard time going to sleep because of that!

LMAO Leo, thank you so much, I was so confused. lol I did, I put in my weight as KG instead of LBS. *head-desk* With moderate exercise it says 577 calories for DD and with light exercise it says 512. I'm 5'7 and 30 years old, weigh 237.

hello everyone

good to see your faces RFL & edens
I have to say I really do look like my avatar ^^ maybe my hair is a bit longer though !!

I'm having a pretty good DD here, 280cal so far (it's 3pm) and no idea what i'll make for dinner ! a light soup for me, toasts and cheese for my scarily slim BF probably...

@edens I started using fat secret for the calories counting (didn't like ******) and i love it ! you can do everything on it, it calculates everything even exercize... but they don't have "zumba" in their list yet

Leo: May I ask you a question?

On JUDDD, as my weight drops, should I drop my calories as well? I'm concerned about going too low for maintenance, once I get there.

I know on WW, each time I lost into a smaller weight, my allowable intake went down because my lower weight did not need as many calories as my higher weight.

So, did you adjust your JUDDD UP and DDs as you lost weight?

Right now, I'm at 1500 cal/30 carbs for UP and 450-500 cals / 20 carbs for DDs.
Should I lower that every so many pounds?

Thanks for your feedback!

I am down to a new low, but still a tiny bit away from a new decade and the a little bit more away from the 50# mark. But, I'll get there, eventually.

Today is an UP day and I am trying a new salmon cake recipe with coconut flour. Can't wait!!

Have a great day everyone! JUDDD rocks!

Hi RFL! Love the pic! I know you didn't ask me, but in IMHO, I wouldn't lower your calorie count too much. 1500 is already pretty low. If you're still losing at 1500, maybe you should continue with that until it doesn't work for you any more. Does WW recommend a 1400 cal point system for your current weight? If so, them I'm probably wrong.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Just stopping by on the fly today. Still busy making our meals out of the odds and ends from the freezer, so not JUDDDing for these couple of days. But I did gently poach a bag of boneless/skinless chicken breasts and hard boil a dozen eggs this morning, so will be starting back in tomorrow morning with a DD and be back in full swing.

I'm starting to get hungry for salads again. Haven't fixed any for a couple of days, and that's two days too long without salad for me. Salad must be my favorite food, other than chocolate fudge cake! LOL

RFL!!!!!!!!!!!!! You darling girl!!!!!!!!!! Now I get to see your sweet face. What a pretty lady you are.

Fun to see new folks here too. Welcome to all. Hope you love it as much as I do, even though I haven't been around much the last couple of days.

Well, off and running again. I'll check in this evening to catch up again. Have a great day.

You're absolutely correct that you don't want to go too low because you're looking ahead to maintenance. Here's what I did. My initial DD number was 460 cal, and after I'd lost about 60lbs, I went back to the calculator, and my new number was 370. It was fairly easy to drop down after having been about 400 for so long, but I kept my UD cal at 1400 just to see if I would continue to lose. I did, so I stayed there. Sometimes I wound up with about 1200, and I didn't consciously try to eat more just to get to that number, but I was mainly in the 1400 range most of the time.

Now that I'm maintaining, I'd doing DDs of about 500, and that seems like a feast after 370! I'm still playing with maintenance numbers, hoping that I'll settle on 600/1400, but even if my DDs are lower, my body seems to be quite used to them now.

Thank you Leo!! This information is SOOO helpful! I have 50 more pounds to get to goal and maintenance (thanks to your great posts) and so I want to make sure I do the weight loss mode in a way that is good for maintenance.

According to the JUDDD calc, my DDs should be 345.

I'm losing pretty well at 450-500 on DDs, so maybe I'll stick with that for awhile.

Thanks again!

Hi Ouizoid,

It could be either. I was on WW in 2001 but came here in 2007.
I don't remember what my user name was back then. But I did have my Before / After pics up as my avatar. That's when we could toggle pics.

This is a DD for me. It got a little messed up because I forgot and had half and half in my coffee. Oops! Anyway, I am having a protein drink (Pure Protein), a Lean Cuisine meatloaf, and a salad, for a total of 597 cals. My carbs aren't LC at 130 but I am having to use up what is in the fridg to save money. The last time I lost more than 10 lbs was about 5 years ago and I did it with Nutrisystem believe it or not. I am finding that on LC I'm not losing because the amount of fat is bumping up my calories too much. Tomorrow I'll see if I can tweak it downward a little.

So I'm going to kind of wing it today since I haven't read everything. I'd still like to keep my DD low carb, though. Haven't been tested, but after what I've researched on insulin resistance, I'm pretty sure that's me. I just hate going to the doctor. lol

Recently I started taking CLA with a meal or two a day, but I probably won't do that on DD since it's 30 calories per serving. Then again, it's all fat, so it might help me stay full. :/

I don't have much in the house right now so I just had a nitrate free beef hot dog (180 calories) and a sf jello mousse (60 calories), so I'm at 240 calories. For dinner I'm going to cook up chicken fajita meat. It says a serving is 4 oz, but I don't know if that's cooked or uncooked. I know it's 1/6 of the package, so I'll eyeball it when I cut it all up. It's only 120 calories, and I'll have it on a salad.

I'll go check out fat secret! Thanks!

Good luck Annie! BTW I just signed up with Fat Secret, my user name is the same. Will you find me so I have a buddy? It's too bad you can't say you're doing a combo of diets, so I just put JUDDD for now. I might switch it back to Atkins tho, not that it really matters since I'll be doing a combo. lol

The good news is that I'm eating slightly more carbs (green vegetables only), and that's positive for me because I don't usually manage many carbs without beginning to gain.

The 'bad' news is that I'm not really eating significantly more than I was when in 'weight-loss' mode. I didn't keep track specifically (as I intended), but I slightly increased calories on DDs (from 350 to about 500), and I kept my UDs as usual (about 1400).

It makes sense when you think about it; I lose so slowly that just a few more calories would be 'maintenance.' I suspect this is one reason many people re-gain, i.e., not realizing that maintenance won't be that much different. You simply can't let up--my motto: "Eternal vigilance is the price of maintenance."

But it's definitely worth it. I never want to go back to where I was.

First of WTG on staying the same and having more food choices. As you continue on your journey I hope you will be able to go even higher in your carb count.

I totally agree with you about maintenance. Its really not much differant then losing. You can not let up!! Now I have tried differant things and continued to maintain but always make sure that if the scale is moving in the wrong direction that I take care of it. I get in ruts and have some bad and good days but I remain vigilant in making sure I do not let my weight get out of hand. Maybe that anxiety is what keeps me maintaining. Not so sure its always a good anxiety but it is what it is and we are what we are!!!

I would like to say Hi to all the newbies and oldies...I have been so busy with work and getting myself back on track that I not posted. I do lurk alot when I can on my Iphone. It really sounds like everyone has found a groove!!

Someone mentioned Low carb and Judd. I personally find that if I eat healthy good carbs I do well. I am satisfied and not hungry. If I restrict too much I tend to have a bad up day and thats not what I want. I want balence...Now my carbs are around 100 or so. I do not count per say but I follow my calories.

I had a tough time the last couple of weeks but seem to have gotten myself back on track.. I bought myself a new exercise system from The Firm and really enjoy it. I am doing the kick start part this week and already feel better adding in more exercise. The system is 20min tapes which really fits into my life. I have learned thats whats the best to do is not what fits for me. I have to find what works even if it may take me a bit longer. The consistency is whats most important. If I set the bar to high and do not achieve then I feel like I failed. Just my personality. So anyway sorry for the novel. I am moving in the right direction again.

RealFood- I think you're making a wise choice. There's no reason to lower calories as long as you're losing--and keep in mind that slow and steady wins the race

Suze- I don't eat the 'high fat' that most people associate with low carb. In fact, I've read that we 'older women' do better with lower fat. I know that's true for me. I don't avoid fat, but I don't go out of my way to add it. On DDs, I have hardly any, as I use low fat mayo in my tuna salads, and I make my eggwhites in the microwave using only Pam.

Annie- Just do the best you can and enjoy all your company! JUDDD is very forgiving. A couple of DDs after your company leaves, and you'll be fine. I've had four-day vacations which were not only all UDs, they were more calories than I normally eat. Within a week of coming home, I'd lost anything I'd gained plus another pound.

Jodie- I understand the anxiety about gaining, and we just have to do the best we can. Being vigilant is the key for me. I will never skip my weekly weigh in because I know that's the road to denial and weight gain.

On a daily basis, I just try to make good choices.
