Hi, Anna! I'm so glad you stopped over here and hope you stay and love it!

JUDDD just alternates between UP days.. where you eat at about the number of calories your body needs to maintain at it's current weight, and then DOWN days.. which are fasting days, and you only eat 500 calories (and eventually even lower if you want too ) -- So you get one day where you are eating how you should be eating in your real life without being on a diet, combined with one very low calorie day, which averages them both out to be at a 'weight loss level of calories' without actually having to cut your food intake back on both days.

JUDDD was developed after the healthful concept of extreme calorie restriction studies which show over and over that undereating increases lifespan, helps your body overcome many ills and symptoms of poor health and function, and activates a real gene (nicknamed the skinny gene) which turns your metabolism up a good deal and makes your body function and burn calories at a better rate than you have been. It seems to work like that pretty much, but isn't a magic wand. LOL Our metabolisms are still dependent to an extent on our ages, our exercise levels, our ailments, etc.

This plan is something folks either love or endure for its benefits or can't deal with. Down Days can sometimes be difficult. You have to be a person who can just tell yourself, "Yeah, I'm hungry. Not a big deal. I'll eat tomorrow." But interestingly enough, after the first few DDs, something so often happens which adjusts your appetite back down where it isn't as HUGE, and the DDs are really not only not too bad, they can actually be rather enjoyable.

And the key is really only partly the low-calorie Down Days. The UP Days are the other half of the equation, and if you just go hog-wild on them, you'll find the Down Days aren't enough to offset your eating too much anyway. Ha!

If you'd like to try this, choose whatever foods you want to eat and just start in. Some here are quite low carb, others are about mid-range carb overall. (That's me, with my occasional high-carb food enjoyed as well. )

Here is a good site to use to figure out what your UP Day calories should be. How many Calories to Lose Weight? Maintain weight? | The Calorie Control Council But I'll give you one warning with it. It will ask you for your exercise level. I'd strongly advise you not to overestimate how much real exercise you get, if you aren't a person who really gets a lot. You want an accurate figure of calorie needs, not an over inflated one.

Ask any questions you want. Jump in whenever. And read here a lot to get caught up. I've talked about this JUDDD plan a lot here with others, as have the rest of us here, so it won't take you too long to feel like you've picked up the plan as well as any.

Hope you enjoy all the benefits and the freedom JUDDD will bring to your life.

Hope your daughter Is better this morning. We had a bug around the holidays that lasted over 2 weeks could not believe how long it took to start feeling better.

I am really new to Juddd, My first week. I went and read some of the old threads and the juddd web site. I have to say I like it. Plus there is so much positive feelings on this thread from such good people.

SoHappy yea I really need to keep track on those UD, I have no idea what normal amounts of food are like. And until I do the counting is going to have to remain part of my day until I figure out what normal is.

Today is DD for me, Yep had a few to many calories yesterday but will cut a little out of the calories through the week.

Well I counted on my calender 21 1/2 weeks till I go on vacation. Even at a pound a week I would be happier then I was last year. I felt like the beached whale and did not enjoy myself. When I packed up all my size 6's I refused to go buy any new clothes and hit the salvation army for clothes to get by in. and I just really don't want to feel that way again.

I am feeling good with Juddd and hoping I have finally found away of eating that I can live with.

Hi all I dont normal put links on threads, But I am listening to last night coast to coast on you tube. The show starts out with braggs lady Acv then Brain power. That leads into lower carb living and fats are a good thing. It is incredible interesting. I have been listing while cleaning house and keeping my mind off DD.

If you use the link it starts off on 1/12. on the right side you will see the list top will be 12/12 scroll down a little. find 1/12 and work your way up. after 1 finishes then click on 2/12 and so forth. It even cover how good fasting is for the brain.

YouTube - akcijak's Channel

Just a nice listen

Hi Everyone!

I decided to give this WOE a whirl. I have been a slow loser lately and want to try and jump start things again. I've read all the posts and menu ideas.

I guess I had a MD yesterday and will do DD Mon, Wed, Fri. I see that no exercise is recommended on a DD b/c of the calorie restriction.

Today is going well, but it's Monday and I am at work, so I am distracted. I am not too hungry but I am COLD COLD COLD! Drinking hot tea only helps for a short while.

Brrrr.......

I seem to be colder on DDs as well. Warm herbal tea really helps me but I keep re-heating and drinking it when it cools off!

RL Oh what a joy in your life! Hugs and I hope she feels better. My little one spent a week in the hospital at 7weeks old and it was the hardest week of my life. She had pneumonia..

I too have tried acv. I did not see any differance. My little one did get great results from it. She put it on a planters wart that was on her sole of her foot. We would wrap it every night... The wart turn blck and fell off. It has not returned since. We had been to the docter countless times and acv for very little expense did the trick.

We were talking the other day about exercising on DD. I have to say that I have never had a problem with it. I wonder if its because I do not restict my carbs. I eat healthy but do not count. I actually get a really good workout. I am weird huh!!

I have a very slow metabolism, so I'm always cold whether it's a DD or UD, but I've found that drinking hot coffee and tea (both plain) for zero calories really helps me through my DDs. I'm sort of like a smoker who lights the next cigarette from the previous one--I always have a cup in my hand throughout the day.

Thank you Jodi and I'm sorry you had to experience that. It is a hard, hard thing. Our Princess spent 4 weeks in the NICU when she was born.

Ohhh, ohhh, please tell me exactly what you did, because Princess has a wart on her finger. How did you apply the acv and what did you wrap it with? How long did it take to turn black and fall off?

Thank you!

Thank you for welcoming me into your group. I made it through the day and now I am in my jammies wrapped in a blanket in front of the fireplace. So glad to be home from work. Mondays are always tiring.

I ate about 500 cal and not really hungry--protein shake, cottage cheese shake, big bowl of homemade veggie soup, and lots and lots of hot tea.

Have a great evening!

Sweetpea Just restarted JUDD last Friday myself!! Great supportive group here.

Had a very successful (and easy) DD #2 yesterday. I know they won't all be like that....wonder if a controlled UD the day before helped. My UD's used to be WAY out of control. Looking forward to an UD today, but so far not even hungry this morning.

Have a good day, ladies!!

Good Morning Everyone!! <waving at you all!>

After my stupendous DD yesterday, the scale showed a nice loss. However, today is an UP day and I usually gain a pound, so I'm just watching, not getting excited until Weigh In on Sunday.

I'm looking forward to some exercise today, being an UP day and feeling good, as I have been. Daughter is doing better, but her asthma has flared, so we'll see the specialist tomorrow. Tonight she sleeps in her own bed (she is sad).

Lots of paperwork to do today, so I'm off to do it!~~

Have a great day everyone!!

Sweetpea and Sherrie, glad you had successful DDs yesterday. Add me to the successful list.

The key for me is to have plenty of food already figured out and ready to grab. I only have to check the calorie counts on stuff I haven't used on my DDs before, and I usually choose mostly from foods I've already had in the past, so don't have to re-figure calorie counts anymore for them. That makes it go a lot faster now.

When I first started JUDDD, I was just doing maintenance, and I didn't even plan or measure anything on my UP days... only keeping to 500 calorie DDs. And it works well for maintenance for me, although I'm not a bit overeater normally, so unless I had quite a few big days in a row I might not have to count calories at maintenance.

But I weigh each morning, so would be able to notice if my weight started climbing up and didn't come back down again. I'd have to jump on that.

Good morning ladies....had a great DD yesterday..it was better than i thought...i did manage to exercise and it didn't bother me too much...had 586 calories and 44gr of carbs....so i'm pretty impress with myself...a lost of 1.4lbs this morning...but i know it's always lower after a DD.... but i'm still excited...

Today being an UD...don't want to blow it so i'm counting calories all day..let you know how i do tomorrow...gone to exercising...be doing 5 miles this morning...

Nice day of Judding ladies...

You're doing wonderfully! I don't do MDs very often, so my Wednesday morning weigh-in is going to come after my UD today, and I'm already not losing anything this week despite being true to my cause! So I expect I may be having a week where the scale is actually up over my weigh-in of the week before, which came after a DD. Ah, well.... it won't be the first time, and it won't be the last. (But it's not nearly as fun as the occasional weeks where there is a whoosh of weight loss. LOL)

And in the meantime, I enjoy JUDDD and feel exceedingly well on it. AND, I especially enjoy the variety in my diet these days, so all is 'happy' in my world.

SoHappy, just a humble suggestion; I believe Dr. Johnson says to weigh only after a DD, so perhaps you could weigh on Thursday, rather than Wednesday to get an accurate weekly weight.

I did that after my "walk on the wild side" on a Sat and even though Sundays are my WI, I didn't weigh until Monday after my DD on Sunday to get a truer reading.

Just a thought because the weight after an UP day is not accurate.

Thanks. Yes, I do know that suggestion about the timing of a weekly weigh-in except....

Except that I actually don't care that much. I weigh every morning, rain or shine, after a DD or an UD, so track all those little jigs and jogs that a body weighs anyway, so having a week of 'treading water, weight-wise' doesn't bother me, and weighing the morning after an UD doesn't worry me either. It'll be up a little. It'll come down.

I do remember one time when I'd lost on the morning after the DD, and then I recorded an additional loss the morning after the UD TOO! That was for a series of 4 or 5 days, just a few ounces, of course, but a fun little ride down for a bit. LOL

You can certainly never predict quite how long your body will hold on to its fat, or it's retained water weight either, so it doesn't necessarily magically follow along in an orderly fashion in a series of 24-hour 'cause-and-effect' windows. I guess if it did, it would be a lot easier to track a lot of little things that affect it overall, wouldn't it. Like, 'I ate 5 pecans and my weight is up half a pound. My body must not like pecans' LOL

If I never lost another ounce in my life, I would be OK with where my weight is right now. I've almost lost the ten pounds I thought I'd try.. I'm just thinking now that I'll lose 2 or 3 pounds more, so as to be at the low end of the range I allow in maintenance, and then see what I think about the skin and wrinkles at the new lower weight. Alas. I think I'm detecting a bit slacker skin.

I know you'll have your usual great day. You're doing a wonderful job, and so good to get your weight down to where you want it to be before you are old like me. Hope your little gal is feeling better today!

RealFood- Did you know that the only truly scientific studies on JUDDD show that it helps with asthma? I'm certainly not suggesting that you put your daughter on JUDDD, but I've always been fascinated with that, unable to figure out the connection between calorie cycling and breathing improvement.

A while ago, we had a woman here doing JUDDD who had not read the book and did not know this. None of us knew that she had advanced emphysema. As she stayed with JUDDD, she eventually told us when she reported that she had been able to get off oxygen entirely, use her inhaler less, and, after a while, even lower her meds. She attributed it all to losing weight, but then we told her about the asthma study, and she was convinced that it was JUDDD and that SIRT1 gene.

Good afternoon everyone!

Today is UD and I am much warmer, but I am also wearing more clothes too. I didn't sleep well last night, probably because I took a decongestant before I went to sleep.

I am in the habit of weighing myself every morning and today I was down 0.5lbs. Not getting excited about that because I saw that same number only last week!

Busy at work again today, so I am not too hungry. Coffee, cottage cheese, yogurt for lunch. I also have a cut up pink grapefruit.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Dasiey: I want to be on your beach! Where are you in IN? DD lives in Zionsville.

Hi everybody -

I have been here before and am back again. Don't know why I leave because JUDDDing works for me and I like it. Oh well.

Started fresh with a DD yesterday after being cooped up due to snow and ice for 6 days! All I did was feed my face during that time and put on a nice amount of poundage.

Good to see so many of the faces from before and all the new faces.

Yesterday's DD went well with 492 calories banked by night's end. I laughed last night because, like the other posts, I was freezing! I cranked up the heat, grabbed a blanket and my heating pad and sank into the couch with some hot chai tea. I'm much warmer today!

UD today and I'm a happy girl. Talk to you all later!

Laura

A while ago, we had a woman here doing JUDDD who had not read the book and did not know this. None of us knew that she had advanced emphysema. As she stayed with JUDDD, she eventually told us when she reported that she had been able to get off oxygen entirely, use her inhaler less, and, after a while, even lower her meds. She attributed it all to losing weight, but then we told her about the asthma study, and she was convinced that it was JUDDD and that SIRT1 gene.
WOW Leo!
No, I was not aware of that. How awesome! I guess I'm going to have to get that book now! Thank you so much for sharing that info with me. We are also going to try removing gluten and dairy from her diet.

Afternoon everyone!!!

So glad to see y'all posting! This is a great group.
Don't forget we also have a menu thread where you can post your yummy JUDDD menus and share recipes.

Welcome Ellgee! Welcome!!

I'm doing pretty well on my UP day food and exercise-wise. I did 30 minutes on the Gazelle and 5 minutes with hand weights.

I also tried the chia gel that so many people post about. I had 1 TB and it's really cool! I don't know how to count it though I'm working on it. I think I'll only use it on UP days.

Have a great afternoon everyone!

I live north of there. In a tiny town called Bunker Hill

Laura, welcome back to a new oldtimer! This place is really beginning to hop!

My UD went so well today that I think it may only be a MD. I was too busy to eat much, so everything that was intended for breakfast-lunch is going to be for supper instead. That's just over 1,000 calories, so would make a good MD, and plenty of room left for supper calories if I am hungry later. I just got home, and mostly I'm just tired.

Hope you all had a good day.

Laura....Welcome Back!

Good UD today....1674 healthy choice calories. It's amazing how much food that is when you're making healthy choices. Guess that tells you how badly I've been eating. Feeling very motivated and ready for another good DD tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

You're right, Sherrie. I find that making good choices gives me a lot more food for my calories. I also feel so much better eating healthily.

Sugar, for example, will trigger immediate arthritis pain for me, and knowing that helps tame my sweet tooth
