Good morning all,
DD for me and I am having a really tough time with my UDs. I start off counting my calories and then everything kind of spirals out of control. Not sure why I am doing this to myself. You'd think I would do this on DDs but so far those haven't given me any huge issues.Laura |

Laura- A lot of people here have had problems with UDs more than DDs. I suspect it's because they plan more carefully for DDs and try to 'wing it' on UDs.
My practice was always to have my food planned in advance for both DDs and UDs. I always knew exactly what I was going to eat. Sometimes on UDs, I'd make a change--but only if I was swapping the same number of calories--like I might have spinach instead of broccoli or fish instead of chicken. (What made me stick to this is that when I was planning, I was always amazed at how quickly the calories added up. I knew that if I just counted during the day as I was eating, I'd go way, way over my personal allotment.) I started having problems with UDs when I got to maintenance because I (unconsciously) got a false sense of freedom and began to 'add' things during the day. I've learned that's never a good idea, and I'm back to my pre-planning. |

Good evening everyone!
I love this WOE!! Today was UD. Scale seems to be stuck these past 3 days, but that's OK. Started the morning with 2 lc lemon poppy seed muffins that I made this past weekend and a jumbo cup of Joe. Lunch was a salad with cucumbers, hummus, roasted red peppers, no dressing. I usually bring my lunch, but a friend at work needed to talk some issues out. Felt like I wanted something sweet after lunch, so we headed over to Starbucks and had a grande skinny carmel macchiato--said it was supposed to be 140 calories. One can hope!!! Anyway, now I'm home and it's dinner and not hungry, but need to cook for the hubs who is out for a run. Beautiful weather today and looking forward to an even better day tomorrow--TGIF! WTG Gaets--nice loss!! KUTGW

Wow, I am falling very behind on the board! I have two sick with the flu and I am still in quite a bit of pain, so things are not running as normal around here right now. In fact today was supposed to be a dd and it has definitely been an UD. The pain seems best controlled when I can take Motrin (and I have less water retention when not taking the tramadol) and yet dd's are difficult because of it. I don't like to eat until evening on dd's. It works best for me, so today I had a small (about an ounce) of cheese when I took my Motrin this morning, thinking I'd be fine until evening and then the stress of having my two sick girls up before 7am feeling horrible just got to me and I ended up turning the day into an UD. Tomorrow has to be a good dd. I'll try the small amount of food with my Motrin in the morning and hopefully I can hold out until later in the evening for my meal. I still can't sit at the computer long...that's why I'm so far behind. Thinking about you all though!

Happy Friday!
Busy at work made this week go really fast. Today is DD, so right now I'm drinking my large cup of vanilla almond coffee. Later I will have a whey protein shake--pina colada! Lunch is NF strawberry greek yogurt or maybe container of cottage cheese. Tonight is food shopping after work, so have to think about the dinner thing. Hope everyone enjoys their day. Jane |

okay, I'm going to try my best to pull off a dd today. My husband works in the gallery today until 1:30 so I'm going to put on a pot of hazelnut coffee (not his favorite, lol) and sip that through the morning. Kids are still very sick and today is my babys 11th birthday. Poor thing ws supposed dto have a big party and sleepover tonight but we had to cancel. Many in our homeschool group are sick so co-op has been canceled for today. My girls are happy that they aren't missing it. Have a good day everyone!

Hi and good morning everyone. I've been somewhat of a lurker lately, very busy but I always take time to read the threads here and at the DD recipes thread as well. So many common problems with this WOE, mirror my own. UD's that want to run rampant or DD's that turn into MD's or just a full blown two UD's in a row. The main thing for me is the spot on DD's. The ones that make me feel so great and in control. Leo, your advice for UD's is perfect. Plan plan plan. I have had two UD's in a row only twice since starting this WOE and it's funny but that's all my body will put up with, then it's right back to DD's every other day. I really enjoy reading about others experiences with JUDDD. It helps me a lot. Thank you!

Hey there JUDDDers! Congrats to all who are doing so well, and I hope those that are sick or have sick family members are doing better today.
We came home a little early from our trip. The weather is so beautiful, we thought we'd take advantage of the nice driving, and since yesterday was an UD for me it seemed like a good idea to travel when I had a realistic chance of eating at a couple of places along the way. It was a semi-decent plan and worked pretty well...until we hit the KFC buffet for dinner lol. Fortunately I stuck to the baked chicken and coleslaw but I'm sure I ate too many calories. I decided to put off weighing until tomorrow to give my body a chance to process some of that, along with the typical water retention I experience during long car trips. Since I haven't weighed for more than 3 weeks I'm pretty eager to check out that scale, but didn't want to make myself depressed if the KFC pig-out gave me a temporary uptick today. I am such a very slow loser...my hope is I will have lost a pound per week. I am really loving this plan. I stayed on it the whole trip. Other than last night's dinner, my one questionable day was the day after Valentine's day when we celebrated with a few drinks...I stuck to vodka and diet gingerale but am sure the calorie count was too high there too. Oh well, it was fun! Today is a DD. I'm still not hungry so all I've had so far is black coffee. I'll have some veggie soup for lunch and then ff hotdogs for dinner, along with konjac pudding for a night time snack and should be under 500 cals today. |

penguin- You might want to give yourself a couple of DDs to get rid of 'car trip' water retention before you weigh. My understanding is that KFC puts MSG in everything--even their grilled chicken, and so I can't eat there because I react severely to MSG. But even if you don't react as I do, MSG causes water retention, and that could ruin your return to the scale if you weigh too soon.
Gaets- If you weigh frequently (or daily), keep in mind that BIG fluctuations are especially common with JUDDD, and you want to be careful of making any assumptions about weight gain based on frequent weighing. It is most often just water retention that disappears on its own. |

Perimenopause
I have a question for you ladies who are in perimenopause or are already menopausal. I am 48, up until a few months ago was having very regular periods but then had 3 periods in 6 weeks and now seem to be skipping one. I have started experiencing a weird symptom that you don't seem to read about in books or typical symptom list. I wll feel really cold and yet hot at the same time. I experienced this all night long last night. I was very well aware of it all night. I felt very cold but was sweating. I've had night sweats several times, but this in not like that AT ALL. I did google the symptoms and found other people who had the same symptoms and are attributing it to perimenopause. Any of you ever felt this? It's very strange!

new to JUDDD, introducing myself
Hi all, Im Laura. Restarted low carb January 1st, and as of a few days ago, decided to give JUDDD a try because it might better fit my lifestyle.
So far so good, have made it thru two DD and today is my second UD....altho I can tell you right now that due to abnormal stress today (long story, but we are getting ready to have weather related roof problems ) I already know that this is gonna be an UP up up up UP day Sigh. Plan on keeping on track tho and sticking to my 500 cals tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all the tips, advise and support offered here. I will try to check in often! Laura |

Re: perimenopause
Sounds like perimenopause to me. I am 48 yrs old too. I went thru about the same thing for about 4 years before I was officially considered menopausal. I did not want to do HRT, and did find that Estrovan helped lessen the symptoms during that time.
Unfortunately, that still happens to me on occasion. Tis a hot flash/night sweat that is hot enough to make you sweat, but then the sweat on your skin combined with the cooler air makes you cold at the same time. Quote:

Hi everybody -
Well, yesterday was a DD and I was white knuckling all day. Decided around 2:00 to make it a MD. I came home, had a stern talk with myself and managed to keep it a DD. Mentally I just felt like I wanted to do some damage! Today, rather than an UD, I am doing a MD because I wanted Saturday to be my UD this weekend. Gaetane - you are right. This week was very similar to your last week. I had some crazy UDs. Today I planned and tracked and am accepting that is just what I am going to have to do EVERY day. What's crazy is I tend to buy groceries specifically for my DDs. I need to plan better and have things available for the UDs, too. A cucumber works well on a DD but I want something MORE on an UD! LOL! Laura. I'm Laura, too. Leisa - I am 47 and have been having night sweats and cycles very similar to yours - two one month, skip a month. But I've not experienced the cold/hot at the same time. That cannot feel good! It's bad enough waking up drenched in the middle of the night. Hope the cream works for you. Laura Last edited by ellgee; 02-18-2011 at 04:11 PM.. |

HELP!
ok, someone talk me down from the ledge! I'm starving! 9:12pm on my dd. I CAN'T blow it NOW! I'm having a cup of coffee with a little heavy cream in it hoping it will help the hunger subside. Keep thinking throughts of food in the kitchen. I really don't want to blow it! Can't go to bed early because my girls are sick and I need to stay up until I get them settled. They will get another dose of medicine at 11:30 so I'll be up until then.
