Hi Ladies!
I usually work out 5-6 days a week, usually alternating strength & cardio days. 10-1-10 - 40 minutes circuit training w/weights |

Great thread, Kel. I have to admit something <<blush>>:
I stopped exercising during my Atkins time, because every time I added exercise I seemed to stall or gain. I think it's about time I gave it another try. I miss it. I've been a pretty committed exerciser for many years, until the last year and a half. I was one of those 90s aerobics ladies! I even had a leotard with a belt, and matching headbands for all my outfits. Ha! I think this time I'll just be starting with some gentle walking. I think at my age, high impact exercise isn't worth the joint pain/damage. And I have GOT to get back to my upper body weight routine. My arms are looking too small for their skin....

I met a friend at 7 this morning, and we walked for about an hour. It was a really fun way to start the weekend.
We walked fast enough to get my heart beat up and I was sweating by about 30 minutes into the walk. Not a stroll, but good exercise. Thanks for this thread, Kel! Cynthia |

and the key here is that you enjoyed it. One of the most enjoyable, best ways to get exercise is with a friend. Keep it up, you can do it! |

I'm planning to begin my new plan today, with either a trip to the gym to walk on the treadmill or a WATP dvd, plus some free weights for upper body. (I have 3, 5, 8, 10 and 15 pound dumbbells at home, so I won't need to rely on the gym for upper body. I prefer free weights, because I think you engage your back and abdominals more for stability and get an added benefit in that way.)
I do like using the lower body machines at the gym, so at some point, I might decide to incorporate those into my plan. For now, though, I want to keep it simple--walking, plus arms and shoulders! |

Wow wtg Kel!!
I am running in my first 5k on Sunday. I can not wait and hubby and kids will be waiting at the finish line for me. I am a bit worried because I have worked extra this week and at the times I had to run its been raining pretty hard. My co worker who runs also and gives me advice said I have to run in the rain. LOL I am that crazy yet!!! ![]() |

Sounds like a good plan Jes!! If you want so cardio in between then do a min of jumping jacks then go right back to your set. I do this circut once in a while at home. I will do a set then jumping jacks or just step up on my cardio step. U can put together a great workout!!

I am a bit jealous, cause I just can not run. I can walk all day, but try to run and it's a no go. My dd told me it is because I was never TAUGHT to run, whatever that means. She said she would teach me, but I have yet to see that happen. |

Kel I started running and walking. I do not by any means run fast!!! I go at my own speed and listen to my music. I love that I am in my own world without hearing mommy being called every couple of mins. I never thought I would be able to run either. Try it again. Go slow and stop and walk if you need to catch your breath or slow your JOG down till u catch your breath. U need to remember that its not a race. Its just to finish!!!

Hi Pat! Can I make a suggestion on the walking shoes? I was told that it is better to purchase running shoes instead of walking shoes as they are lighter. Go with the most expensive pair you can afford. It would be in your best interest if you could go to a shoe store that can give you some professional help. Asics are my favorite shoes. Here is the website just for reference. -asics running shoes Good luck!

Kel any suggestions gratefully received. They actually sell Asics in Spain. Unfortunately the nearest place is about 80 miles away. We plan to take a trip to the city (Valencia) next week and there are several stores that carry them there so I shall definitely look into them.
Living in a pueblo, there's not an awful lot of things available. There is one health foods shop and they have a "Plataforma Vibratoria" (vibrating platform?) They have a special offer on ten sessions. Do you know anything about these things? Are they worth spending money on (for 10 sessions, not to buy)? Pat |

Does doing housework until you're drenched in sweat count as exercise for this thread? Whew!
