I have found a new "home!"

Thanks, Pooticus.

It's an Up Day for me today, and I don't think any of us need "input" for those-haha.

I was up a bit this morning from my low Saturday morning weigh-in, but I've had a pretty sodium and alcohol heavy weekend, so it's no great surprise. I will still claim my Saturday weigh-in as my true weight!

I'm thinking this week will be the week that I venture away from pre-packaged foods and try a little bit of cooking for my Down Days. I'm quite nervous about how to calculate the calories on things like homemade soups and veggie dishes, so I've been hesitant to try them. I have REALLY towed the line quite rigidly on the 500 calorie thing. But sooner or later, I've got to venture into real food. Those packaged items are so full of sodium and chemicals, plus I'd probably get a lot more satisfaction for the calories out of home-cooked foods.

Thanks for starting this thread! I like it!

Jessica I just don't want to hi-jack the main JUDDD thread. Can't we use the two places? Because to me, your hesitation about cooking and still conforming to the 500 cal/day is an important part of the psychological aspects of the diet that all of us can learn and share in??!! Please?

D: Kitchen Sink Veg Soup, 3 oz chicken thigh 249

The day went pretty good for me. Very little hunger. I'm used to that from Fridays and it's taught me that it's not scary to be hungry. That it's part of feeling things. When I feel that gnawing or rumbling and it's not time to eat, I simply offer it up to God as a small price of suffering compared to His son's suffering and for his use.

I think it'll be great to have multiple options for reading and posting.

I have a difficult time discussing an eating plan without discussing....well, ya know, eating! So I will probably do more of my posting in this thread, but will happily read any and all threads about JUDDD!

I meant to ask you the other day what "WPP" is? I'm sure it's something completely obvious, but I'm drawing a blank!

Whey Protein Powder (Concentrate). Supposedly and I don't know how true this is, Whey Protein Isolate is really bad for us? And supposedly Whey Concentrate if it's produced correctly is ok? I don't know much about this but I started researching the whey concentrate from grass fed cows and it led me to Mercola's site then on to Defense Nutrition and Uri Hoff-something or other. So I bought some Swanson's brand cuz it was cheaper than Mercola's brand. I don't like it as much as Miracle Whey brand but MW brand is isolate again...so I guess I'm going to give this a try!

A little more hunger towards late afternoon, but nothing unmanageable. Was satisfied with dinner but woke up hungry in middle of night. Manageable. Did not eat. Think it has something to do with having 2 higher days on the weekend?

Hi all, just wanted to make a suggestion you might not have thought of- or maybe you did.
I was doing HCG recently and you have to stay under 500 calories for that. Even though they are limited to specific items they still have some good ideas for recipes. The most popular thing there is chili. Anyway if you get bored try looking at the recipes for P2, thats the 500 calorie portion of the diet. They are in "other diets" then "HCG" and I know theres at least one thread for P2 recipes.

I couldnt stick to their limited foods- the 500 calorie part was ok. I tried JUDDD before and I've done Fast 5 type intermittent fasting and those were much more effective for me.

Hope you don't mind me popping in here to get some ideas.

Sunny That's just fine that you mention the HCG recipe thread. I was reading the HCG recipes a couple of weeks ago and found that chili recipe. It really does look good.

Hey, y'all. Down Day for me today. I'm experimenting with skipping breakfast and having a bigger lunch and dinner. I know that some JUDDDers only eat one meal, but I've been dividing my 500 calories up pretty evenly into 3 meals so far, and I've been very comfortable with that. So this will be a slight tweak on that. If I find that I enjoy going with 2 meals, maybe I'll try having only one, just to see how it feels. Variety is good, right?

Thanks for the suggestion about the HCG recipes, Sunny! I will be going straight over to check that out after I finish my post.

BBL tonight to post my menu. Not sure yet what I'm going to do. Mr. V is out of town, so that makes it super easy to do a DD!

egg/ham scramble leftover-250 cals, chicken soup 150 calsX2=300 Almonds 50 cals total 600. Actually, I think it may have been even less, kind of try not to underestimate, may go the other way. Anyway, it was a pretty good DD.

Jessica-
I have eaten whole foods on DDs from the very beginning, but I never eat anything unless I'm absolutely sure of the # of calories. That's fairly easy--

e.g., a staple of my plan is fish (tuna, salmon, sardines), and I buy in cans or pouches that list exact # of calories--mix with low fat or reg mayo--again, calories by T are on jar; I use frozen veggies that give calories on package. I also make "egg white omelets" in my microwave, and, again, the box lists calorie numbers. My DD foods are usually similar, and I've read that's a good idea--i.e., lack of variety makes it easier to plan and is actually satisfying.

When I've made soups for DDs, I've used frozen veggies so that I can keep track of the calories (i.e., divide the total by the portions).

I like to eat at least 3x, so I think of DD 'meals' like snacks--usually 150 cal for breakfast and 100-120 at other times.

Before I did JUDDD, I was doing Protein Power, and I really believe it's important to get enough protein so that we lose fat rather than muscle. That's the major reason I focus on protein on DDs. I also find protein very satisfying (keeps hunger away).

I hope this helps.

I too think I will probably be posting here to discuss menus. Jessica got me going on the Hebrew National Fat Free Franks. I'm trying to settle on one DD menu I can just keep repeating. Works best for me that way.

Today:
B: Tea
L: 2 Hebrew National Franks, 1 Oroweat sandwich thin, 1 tsp lite Mayo, 1 FF weight watchers sharp cheese slice
D: 4 oz skinless chicken breast, 1C. broccoli, 1C. cauliflower

Calories: 511 Carbs: Net 30

I put the Gazpacho type soup on the JUDDD recipe site. Today I had some for my dd, but I put in a little more tomato sauce (about a TBsp per bowl) cause I wanted it to be a little more tomatoey-going to use this soup a couple times today.

Hey, those Hebrew Nationals are filling and VERY low in cals. And I learned about them from reading other people's posts in past JUDDD monthly threads. And that's why I'm a believer in posting menus, and reading other people's menus. I find it extremely helpful, so thanks to those who are putting menus here!

Today is a DD for me. It's just after 10:00 in my time zone, and having gone this far on just coffee, I think I'll be holding out for only 2 meals again today. Seemed to go pretty well for me Tuesday.

I'm out of my basic Down Day supplies--pre-measured tuna packets, Sara Lee low cal bread, 100 calorie popcorn packets, and of course, those Hebrew National franks! Everything ran out at once. So it's off to the grocery store for me this morning.

Wishing everyone a great day!

P.S. My weight was still up, in fact up a little more, yesterday. Don't know what's going on with that, but I'm not (very ) worried. I believe in the plan. I know it works.

Jessica what are you eating on your updays? Maybe give us a couple of examples of this past week?

For me, I think the sodium level in the hot dogs, cheese and broth if it's canned would kinda be hindering me? My feet and legs still swell like nobody's business - more so if I over carb.

Oh, also, Pam says that swelling and water retention is a prime sign of hypothyroid. So maybe your diet (cal/carb restriction) is throwing your T3 conversion off more so that you are more symptomatic now??? Just guess work here...

Sept. 10(Wednesday): 454Cals, 25.2gF(51%), 20g C(17%), 7.2g Fib, 37.5g P(32%)

B: decaff coffee, black/unsw - 0
L: water - 0
D: 5oz Grilled Cod (120), 5.44oz Broccoli, steamed (52), .25 tsp Olive Oil (19), .5 Tbsp Unsalted Butter (51), 3 c Salad Greens (spinach, spring mix, romaine) (20), .25 Cucumber (8), Yogurt Dressing (43), 1cu in. Blue Cheese (61), 1 tsp Tartar Sauce (24)
BTS: 1 Square Lindt Chocolate - 85% Cacao - (52)

Hunger has been a real issue again today. Not hungry at all after dinner. Even had trouble finishing my dinner. It felt like I chewed and chewed and chewed. It took me over an hour to eat and by the end of it, I ended up leaving 2 bites of fish with homemade tartar sauce on the plate cuz I was tired of eating, it was too dry, and I was just "done". Wanted to get my cals up so did have a square of chocolate later.

Today I'm down to 264.4 PP (pre-poopy). I know I'm having some regularity issues. Hopefully today we have time to swing by the healthfood store for a bottle of magnesium supplements and a good multi-vitamin. I'm pretty sure I need both right now.
(Friday is my next scheduled down day.)

Thank you. I just made it and can not wait to eat it. I made it a bit differant but the jist is the same. I had to use what I had here.

Jessica...hang in there. I too am up a pound but think its just a flucuation.

Today is an UD for me. Always a challenge for me. I am caring for my disabled uncle this week. So I am living here for the week. My other uncle is taking a break. He stocked the house with junk!! LOL i just threw away ice cream because I am good now but know its a trigger for me. I already packed up all the junk in a bag and put it out of site.

Interesting that you mention regularity issues, Pooticus. I pay absolutely no attention to my elimination habits, as I've never been anything except the polar opposite of constipated in my entire life.

However, I have "gone" about five times in the last 48 hours (please forgive the TMI--but if I can't talk about it here, where can I? )

I just wonder if that was affecting my weigh-ins the last couple of days. We shall see.

DD here--going just fine, as always.
