That first person pronoun should be plural--i.e.,
We could put on 20 lbs easily with 'free eating.' It's just not fair that losing is so hard and gaining is so easy! You might surprise yourself, Kisha. By not trying too hard to lose, you might just get to siggy weight by the New Year. Sometimes all those baby steps add up. |

If I were so inclined, I could easily win The Biggest Gainer competition (like you, I am not inclined to want to try, since we're both trying to go in the other direction).
Example--a couple of years ago, I went on a week-long cruise with my sister, determined not to gain. I didn't think I could lose, but I figured that if I ate very carefully, I could maintain. (I exercised regularly, too.) I returned 8 lbs heavier--and it wasn't water because it took me almost 3 months to lose those lbs. My sister was amazed because we ate every meal together, and she didn't believe anyone could gain on what I was eating. I have the slowest metabolism in the world. |

Hi everyone! We seem to be JUDDD'ing right along! Crazy day here in Ontario. Woke up to 15 cm of snow. It took me 2 hours and 45 min to get to work (it's usually a 40 minute drive). Argh!
Interesting thing about me and the holidays. When I am worried about overeating (ie when at my dad's) I never do. It's always when I get home that I end up going crazy. I think I assume I am going to overeat and then I undereat and set myself up for a binge. This year I am NOT going to undereat. I will follow the Fast-5 for those 3 UD's in a row and hope to continue in maintenance! |

Hi MSGIRL!
I'm at work - made it in okay. Nice they let me use my lap top. Here is some information some of you may want to know Slim Fast canned drinks recalled by Unilever The Associated Press Saturday, December 5th 2009, 1:46 PM HandoutUnilever PLC's U.S. subsidiary says it has recalled all canned Slim Fast drinks because of the possibility of bacterial contamination that could cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Related NewsArticlesFat food: The world's most gluttinous eatsLargest crib recall in history announcedCold season bummer: Vicks nasal spray recalledKid stroller can cut off fingertipsRecalled cat food sickens 21 cats Elderly man sues bar after tripped over dog: Claims wrecked sex lifeUnilever PLC's U.S. subsidiary says it has recalled all canned Slim Fast drinks because of the possibility of bacterial contamination that could cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. The company says the probability of serious health problems is remote. Unilever's U.S. arm, based in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., says the products were sold nationwide. They came in cartons of four, six or 12 steel cans, 11 ounces in size, and they were also sold individually. The recall, issued Thursday, covers all Slim-Fast products in cans, regardless of flavor, best-by date, lot code or UPC number. The company said it is working to determine the production issue that caused the contamination. It has halted production.

EmandM-
You are not alone! Before JUDDD, that was often my pattern on holidays. I almost always had the holiday meals away from home where I abstained from all kinds of good stuff. Then I'd come home and binge on anything I had in the house--usually nothing worth eating too much of ![]() One of the best things about JUDDD is that I've found myself eating the good stuff on holidays, but eating moderately (like a person without food issues) and enjoying the meal. No gorging later at all. In fact, I easily followed Thanksgiving with a DD. Just one of the many reasons I love JUDDD ![]() |

Leo - I agree that is the beauty of JUDD - though I don't follow it now, I thoroughly enjoyed by UD's followed by those cleansing DD's |

My 2 cents on this, one December I lost 10# by strict low carb-one January, after deprivation all holiday, I spent a month eating everything that wasn't tied down, and regained a bunch.
I think the 5 hour plan is a good one when away from home, I think if I just have either shakes or soup worth about 100 calories each twice, and then having a meal about 500 cals once a day, I can maintain on those difficult days. Not really DD but not bad. I have been doing something similar to that this week for 3 days, and have lost a little. It's such a hectic time of year for most of us. Good luck to all of us. |

Hey guys
DD for me today and it's already 5pm here. Getting a little peckish around now, need to go and drink some water with sweetened cordial. I wasn't particularly healthy yesterday, but didn't gorge. Had a few beers though Tomorrow will be a bit healthier, with a proper meal with vegetables and some solid nutrition. The "I can eat it tomorrow outlook on life is looking quite bright for me at the moment" Tim |

DD here. Yesterday's UD was successful. The past couple of UD's and DD's have been within calorie range, so I'm hoping for a good report from the scale Saturday. Clothes are getting looser, so that's a good sign. Tomorrow is an UD and we are going to a church pot luck. The food is usually homemade and really good but very fattening. I pretty much know who will bring what. I can anticipate only one person who will be bringing a veggie tray. I'm going to bring a 7-layer salad which usually goes over quite well. I'm looking forward to going. I'm going to eat and enjoy the food and fellowship. JUDDD is the best plan for me, especially during the holiday season. GrammyPat I hope you get well soon. Leo - I do so envy your being retired! I'm looking forward to the freedom of retirement, but am grateful for a good job in the meantime. |

It's fascinating, isn't it? And I think for me it was psychological. I would be so paranoid of overeating that I would be super diligent. Then I would breathe a sigh of relief that I made it through without eating the house down. And after the eating events were over, I would eat the house down! Just knowing I can have anything I want on the UD has made a HUGE difference! Tim - I love reading your posts. My dad is from South Africa, but raised in England. My aunt and uncle still live there and your vocabulary reminds me of them. I am also a HUGE Coronation Street fan (we get it here in Canada so I watch it every night). Redeemed - sounsd yummy! Enjoy! Nitenurse - I think the 5 hour window will work well for me over the 3 UD's in a row. Here's hoping! Kisha - lol about the Biggest Gainer! |

Hey all - it's been ages! too long- and I have the numbers to prove it. !! (I've had a 5 lb gain since I was here last...) I had an impulse here to check in so I thought I'd act on it for once. (hmm, perhaps it was the 3-pack Reeses I just ate?)
So it's time to get back on track and back on the JUDDD train. You have no idea how glad I am that there are so many familiar faces/avatars here! And the progress you've made of course... I'll check back in soon when I have a little more time. Last edited by wallaby; 12-10-2009 at 01:58 PM.. |

Hey guys
Well done with your udders, which ever one it is. It's 10:30pm for me and I've survived, and I'm not as knackered or as much of a headache this time round - bargain. Redeemed - I can't get enough of homemade cooking, my favourite kind and one of the reasons I joined the JUDDD train. OK, so have a few beers and a curry once a fortnight is important too, but to be able to fill my boots with some nice homemade cooking is just, well, awesome EmandM - I'm gonna have to tool up on the fast-5 and other fasting variations. Got any links, or am I being stupid? Or just a quick run down of what it is. I'm only 20 minutes drive from 'Corry' so share the local dialect. Makes me chuckle that it comes through in the text Kisha - Can you beat 25 lb in two months? Quite embarrassed to own up to that one, but that's what a week and a half on the Italian Riveria, followed by 7 weeks with my head in the sand did to me .Right, that's me for a night. I'll be dreaming of my meat and two veg for tomorrow ![]()

Wallaby-Good to see you again!
Tim-I once gained 20 lbs between Thanksgiving and Christmas--and I didn't even have the pleasures of the Italian Riviera to compensate. But I like to consider that 'my former life.' Redeemed-Enjoy the potluck. When I lived in WV, I belonged to a church that had regular potlucks and great cooks as well. I wish I had had JUDDD in those days. EmandM-Although there's so much these days about the physical aspects of weight gain and loss, I'm convinced that for those of us with food issues, it's 90% psychological. Like you, I was under so much stress trying not to overeat on holidays that I wound up overeating the next day--with much less appetizing food. I recall that the minute I'd get a social invitation involving food, I'd begin to feel the stress. No other plan has helped me address these issues, which is why I'm so partial to JUDDD. |

Yes, it totally comes through! Knackered and fry-up to name a couple!! lol I was devastated to hear about Maggie (Blanche's portrayer) passing away last week. She was a great character! Fast-5 is a form of Intermittent Fasting. You basically eat within a 5 hour window and fast the other 19 hours or the day. You can actually have coffee outside of the window and it doesn't interfere with the fast. So over the holidays when I will be faced with 3 or 4 UD's in a row, I will follow Fast-5. My eating window would be 2-7 or 3-8. |

Thanks EmandM
I found this just a moment ago which looks like the plan in an ebook format. http://www.fast-5.com/Fast-5-ebook100.pdf Funny about the language. As I'm from here, with some words I just assume that everybody uses them |

UD today!
![]() Two rounds of toast with light spread, bowl of bran flakes and a yoghurt! Suprises me when I wake up after a DD, as I expected to be ravenous, but I'm not. I suppose the only feeling I have is that I feel a bit empty and my body is telling me (calmly) that I should have some food. Had a quick cheat this morning and had a look on the scales . And it's all good. There's been a massive whoosh getting rid of some water weight and a full digestive tract, so I'm showing a massive 7 lb loss already. I'm expecting that to level out now for the week, may be 1 lb more by Sunday am. I'm expecting for next week to be around the 4 lb loss mark, and then a nice 3 lb per week after that, which is what I'm aiming for. |

Tim - thanks for the info on Fast-5. Seems like a good plan, but I couldn't follow it as I need my coffee with cream every morning! lol I can do that on JUDDD. But I will do a loose version of Fast-5 when I have to over the holidays. Congrats on the woosh. I found the same thing about not being ravenous on UD's. Strange but I'd take it!
Leo - you are right about the physical aspect too. I know when I followed a really low cal diet about ten years ago it really messed me up. I never really had any food issues before that, but when I did the super low cal all I would think about was food as I was ravenous. It was really a stupid thing to do, I didn't have a lot to lose, I just didn't know enough on the subject, and did a crash diet to fit into a little black dress for a reunion. Stoopid! Anyway, it messed up my metabolism and it created psychological issues with food at the same time. |

Kisha-
You CAN do this! I'm on a DD, too, and if I can do it, so can you. Actually, I'm trying for zero calories today because yesterday's UD was too 'up' for me. I've been having constipation issues, so I thought that if I kept eating fiber (veggies, bran crackers [grain--which I was off for a while), it would solve my problem. All it seems to have done was add calories ![]() Losing weight wouldn't be a problem if my body would cooperate ![]() |
