I'm having a tough DD today. It's interesting to me that some are easier than others, but I've told myself that going beyond 450 cal is NOT an option. I'm hoping to get in at about 300 cal. because I've had these tough days before and know I can do it.
So if anyone else is struggling with a DD today, you're not alone, and be assured that you CAN do it! |

DD for me today too... not excited about it after a crazy weekend.
UGH! I'm gonna have a little can of tuna and probably a little pouch of salmon at work. Then some egg whites and maybe some veg when I get home. Hang in there Leo! |

I'm used to hitting around 750 on other plans, so I think I'll be fine. Good luck everyone else! |

Been good this far. Eating on plan and alternating my days by the book.
Its an UD for me today, I find that I am now "addicted" to protein shakes. I run out of them yesterday and this morning breakfast tasted weird without one. Anyhow, I plan on whipping up a hearty frittata for lunch & snack time & then steamed veggies for dinner. I have restarted Atkins induction/ juddd. I needed a jump start on this stall. Welcome Tim, and nice juddd to you all. |

Hello everyone,
Tim oday is a DD for me and I find that my DD go a little better when my previous UD are not extremely high. I seem only to lose when my UD are no more that 1900 (although I think I'm allowed 2100, haven't checked in a while) and my DD are no more that 500. Anyone else like this? I was up 8 pounds above my siggy weight before the Thanksgiving holidays even started due to a birthday party my daughter and I went to(Its all her fault that I ate three pieces of cake ) so that DD turned into an UD which put me at 2 UD in a row, I was a little worried about Thanksgiving too but didn't gain weight thankfully due to fast five. now I am back to only one pound over siggy weight. This plan is so forgiving.Everyone have a great day!

Caramel-
I don't even know why Dr. J gives UD calories because in his book he says that they are really a 'limit' more than a recommendation. I could never lose on the number I get from the calculator (about 2100). I have to watch my UD calories in order to lose, and I find that those calories add up a lot more quickly than I'd like ![]() |

Having followed calorie restriction and BFFM before, I've always been impressed with how the mathematics usually works out in terms of weight loss. Everyone is right that it's good to keep check on those UDs.
The reason I'm choosing this WoE is because it strikes me as simpler than always trying to count and be under a certain amount - eventually I get very tired of counting. The proof for me will be in the doing though From what I can gather about JUDDD, from a weight loss perspective is that the maths stack up very well. Starting off for me, I'm going to be roughly about 9000 Kcals restricted for each week, equating to about 3 lbs/week weight loss. I will expect to see this and more at first. Why more? Well, there's more food in my digestive tract at this moment in time, as well as a load of water weight. That's why it's never good sense to weigh every day as your digestive tract and water will change greatly with a days' food. What I think I'm going to like about this plan, is that if I do go a bit crackers on my UD, I'm going to have to consume twice the amount of calories I do to do any damage - roughly 5,600. That's a fry up in the morning, pie at lunch and a curry at night with beers Early days for me, and I'll tell you how I feel after a 24 hr DD tomorrow!

Tim-
Most of us who have been on JUDDD for a while can testify to the fact that when you go "crackers" occasionally, this plan is very forgiving. Just a couple of DDs wipes out most of the bad effects of overindulgence. Good luck to you with this. You're experienced with calorie restriction, so you should be OK. |

Welcome to JUDD! I hope it takes to you. i do want to mention... that while you expect to lose *more* at the begining this is not necesarilly a pattern that holds true for JUDD. Most weight loss plans have their greatest losses when first started. Anecdotally ALOT OF US have noticed that our weight loss actually accelerates AFTER the first three weeks. My best ever losses were in months 2-6. Weird right? Its probably that old SIRT1 but who knows just wanted you to be informed. Good luck! |

Thanks Kisha,
I've no experience of SIRT1, and so far remain a teeny weeny bit skeptical. I'm big on science, I don't doubt its existence, just its activation by IF. I really want to become a non-skeptic though Thanks for the input. Here's to a hungry day tomorrow! |

I agree about SIRTI. If it's working, fine, but my satisfaction with JUDDD is the lower numbers on the scale
![]() Got through my DD, Kisha, at about 400 cal., higher than I wanted but still OK. I think what keeps me faithful to these DDs is knowing how frustrated I was before JUDDD. I have a fear that if I ever start missing DDs, I'll just go completely off and start gaining (which my body seems to be hoping I'll do ). |

Good DD today
Came in under 300 calories. Drank tons of water (well for my anyway, 8 glasses is tons!) and discovered how satisfying the spiced chicken broth using Leo's recipe of hot sauce and vinegar, was. I really think it's the vinegar that keeps me feeling satisfied and keeps hunger at bay. The recipe was 3 cups chicken broth, 2 teaspoons hot sauce and 3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar. I add some AS to it and it's really good.
Today, I'm home with a cold - not good with my lungs! so will try the natural route first before seeking antibiotics.....I use oregano oil as nature's antibiotic and will be taking 2-3 capsules today, along with Theraflu and Hall's. Good job Kisha and Leo with sticking to your DD's! Makes the UD sweeter, don't you think? |

622839k5ptl85j9p.gif Good morning everyone. DD here. Waiting for the blizzard and -30 degree weather to set in. I'm home today and will cook up a big pot of chili for family and have some tomorrow for myself.
Carmel: I do better when I stay around 500 on DD's - not over and not much under. But because of that my UD's are going to have to come down a little I think. GrammyPat: Thanks's for posting Leo's recipe. I didn't know about it. I'd like to try that. Good job everyone on your DD's yesterday. '

Well it's 4pm here on my DD, and it's not been much of an issue so far. I did walk past the fridge once and instinctively looked in it - why do we do that?
I'm aiming for 0 calories, as I think I'll find it easier that way, but if I break in the evening, I might have a yoghurt and an apple. It's honestly better not even thinking or talking about food though |

Tim: One stone equals fourteen pounds. So if you have lost three stones already that's forty-two pounds - correct? Wow - that's great! I saw your before picture, and you must look really nice now after losing that much. I have read posts from others who have maintained on JUDDD for several years and they are very happy with the plan.

GrammyPat-
I hope you're better soon! I, too, continue to find that broth satisfying. I've made some from my turkey, and yesterday I added some chopped spinach, along with the vinegar and hot sauce--it was great. If I have it about 5 pm, I find that I'm not hungry at all in the evening. Tim- If it's easier for you to do zero calories, that's fine, but keep in mind that according to Dr. J, the advantages of the DD are the same whether you don't eat at all or you have 500 cal. I'm doing this for calorie restriction, and twice I did zero calories (not intentionally; I just wasn't hungry), but I found that I was ravenous the next day and ate more, so I don't try for zero any more. However, I've found that between 150 and 300 works best for me when I can manage that. |

I really believe in the SIRT1-because my son, who just had 10# to lose, went on JUDDD for a short time last summer, and his asthma, which had been really bothering him, dramatically ceased.
For myself, I think I have less body aches and pains on JUDDD, and they are really much worse, debilitating, when I am overeating, especially carbs. How much of that is SIRT I wouldn't say for sure, but I personally believe it helps. Maybe if I kept a food diary, along with physical symptoms, I would be clearer on this, I might try that after January. Something to consider. Always seems like a time for new beginnings. |

Nitenurse-
You may be onto something. I've been the most skeptical of SIRTI, but I know that Dr. J refers to relief of asthma, and your son's experience demonstrates that. And GrammyPat has also had breathing relief. Personally, I realize that I've had a dramatic reduction in the pain from my arthritis since doing JUDDD. I've been attributing it to the fact that I eat an anti-inflammatory diet, but I was doing that for some time before JUDDD, and I've noticed substantially decreased pain, especially in the past few months. I usually had to take a pain pill by bedtime in order to sleep undisturbed (pain is worst by the end of the day), but I haven't taken any pills for quite some time. So whether it's SIRTI or not, JUDDD certainly has beneficial effects beyond weight loss. |

Well DD over with a total of zero calories. It wasn't that bad, but I found my normal night owl antics weren't possible as I was very tired by 11pm. This is a good thing though, as I got a proper nights' sleep for the first time in a while.
This morning is UD and I've started off with fried egg on toast and a yoghurt with some fruit. Beats just coffee and juice |

991684y96q2si0ct.gif Good morning everyone. Had trouble accessing LCF this am. - tried several times. Hope we never get disbanded.
Way to go TIM. I just saw a video of Patricia Bragg, who has fasted one day a week for many years. After listening to her, I might try one DD a week of 8 to 10 glasses of distilled water only. I am down the 2 pounds I gained, so am hoping for a loss for Saturday's official weigh in. My victory is in controlling my UD's. I find DD's tolerable. Hope those of you on the East Coast remain safe from the snow storm. We got around 4 - 5 inches of snow. Just blowing snow now. I go into work at 11PM, so I'm hoping most of this has died down. I drive all country roads - and snow blowing across open farm land can make for trecherous roads. Last edited by Redeemed; 12-09-2009 at 07:00 AM.. |

DD today
Redeemed, good luck going to work in the bad weather - stay safe, OK? Am home again sick today but making progress because I'm feeling better and am actually puttering around the house (always a good sign!). Makes this DD a lot easier by not having much appetite. Am having mostly chicken broth (because of its healing properties) with vinegar and hot sauce. Yummm! Kisha, what is your egg white/egg recipe? do you cook it? you mentioned cinnamon, vanilla....and you usually have this on DD's. Please share! And I want to reinforce Leo's comment about the improvement in breathing - this WOE has been incredible to me because of that, and it can only be because of the Sirt1. I was using my emergency inhaler about 4x/day this past summer (I have emphysema) in addition to starting every day using xopenex in my nebulizer in the mornings. Now, I use none of that! My breathing is so improved I can do run/walk intervals on my treadmill! There was no way I could have done that this past summer. And now with this lung infection, it seems to be diminishing rather quickly. My cough is also diminishing faster than usual, and again, I credit the Sirt1 with this more "youthful" healing response. Normally, I would be coughing a lot more than I am.

Good Morning!
DD for me today. This is second DD I'm going for this week. Monday turned into a MD. Meh.
RE My egg recipe... Its basically 1-2 whole eggs, 1 cup of egg whites with 1 TBS of Vanilla and plenty of sprinkled in cinnamon. Whisk all together well then cook in a sprayed pan (I use pam) I either scramble it or attempt to cook it into a giant fluffy egg pancake (sometimes this doesn't work out and I have to scramble it LOL) I top with splenda and/or davincis sugar free pancake syrup. ETA on UD I do this with only whole eggs no egg whites and put butter and davincis on it. SO GOOD! |

I missed you all today! My computer was screwed up, and I spent a lot of time on the phone with tech support, and it's finally working. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I re-installed my browser, and I'm hoping it's fixed now.
Good news that you're recovering, GrannyPat, and good luck on the roads tonight, Redeemed. We didn't have your inches here in NY, but we do have about 3-4, and while it's now raining in the city (Manhattan), it's just getting colder up here where I live. This is one of those days that I'm so happy to be retired so that I don't have to be out on the roads DD today for me, and while Kisha's 'pancake' sounds delicious, I don't think it would be as good without the sweeteners, and I just don't do those any more. However, this morning, I scrambled a whole egg in Pam, along with a LOT of chopped spinach, and the result was really filling and delicious for only about 85 cal. Later I had my sardines (120 cal) mashed with mustard, dill relish, and some hot sauce and chopped celery for no more than another 30 cal. Tonight I plan to finish off with another cup of my 'soup.' I've been doing DDs on M, W, and Fri since I began JUDDD, and I'm going to have to make a major shift in a couple of weeks to make Christmas an UD. I hope I don't get too confused ![]() |

DD Blown... got taken out to lunch... decided to just eat! I had good low carb green beans and butter browned chicken breast. NOT LOW CAL! I'm going to see if I can change today to a Fast-1 with my window already open and closed so no more eating for me today.
Honestly at this point I'm wanting to just maintain and push through till I give weight loss another strong go in the new year. So little tweaks like this and DD turning into MD are acceptable for me. FOR NOW. |

Kisha-
Do the Fast1. When I went to Disney, I couldn't do DDs, so I skipped dinner every night for a form of IF (we had catered breakfasts and lunches at our meetings). It seemed to work; I didn't weigh when I got home, but I lost my usual pound that week. I think you're absolutely right about trying to just maintain right now. Unless you're 'on a roll,' this is no time to begin any eating challenges. Just keep reminding yourself how well you've done--and how great you look ![]() |
