593568p887g2dyd0.gif Good morning everyone!
Vanilla: Welcome. I hope you enjoy your JUDDD journey. You'll find lots of support here. I have decided not to have the steak and potatoe tonight when we go out to dinner. I think I will order a nice chicken oriental salad if it's on the menu, or something along that line. It is actually what I am really wanting. Hope you all have a great day! |

Interesting DD yesterday. I posted last week about an alternate-day dieting program I'd read about (not JUDDD) that limited eating on DDs to between 10 am and 2 pm. The brief description of the study didn't give any reason for this limited window, but I assume it's to prolong the fasting time. I decided to try it this week to see if it makes any difference to my weird body.
I'm used to eating breakfast as soon as I get up (about 4 am) so waiting until 10 was tough. But I realized that I got into the 'habit' of eating first thing in the morning when I used to take anti-inflammatory meds that have to be taken with food. I no longer take those meds thanks to my anti-inflammatory diet and exercise, so I have no reason to eat right away. I had my black coffee, however, because since I can have that before a fasting blood test, I figured it was OK in these circumstances. I realized that waiting to eat was more psychologically difficult than any physical challenge. In fact, at 10, I wanted to eat but wasn't very hungry and was actually more satisfied than I am when I eat earlier. I probably could have not eaten again before 2 pm, but I wanted to get more protein in for the day and also worried that I'd be starving later if I didn't eat a little more. Overall, I had about 200 cal for the day, when I normally have 350-400. I was very hungry about 9 pm, but that happens often on DDs, and I just promised myself that I'd eat in the morning, and that worked as usual. I'm eager to see how this works out on Wed. and Fri., my other DDs this week. Last edited by Leo41; 11-17-2009 at 07:15 AM.. |

Had a really good DD-only had 2 protein shakes yesterday, with 1 tsp heavy whipping cream-but I also put some glucomannen in them and they really did fill me up and I really wasn't hungry all day. I don't know if this is something I might want to continue doing, or if it was just a happy accident.
I also feel like my stubborn body is about to cooperate and I might start losing wt again, I have been stuck since Oct 1st, having a hard time getting back on track. I also came to JUDDD this year because I wasn't losing anymore on lowcarb-I stayed on that WOE because I feel better on lowcarb, but couldn't lose any more until I got back to JUDDD last June. Leo, you are a real inspiration for persistance, If I can lose a pound a week I would be sooo happy. |

Hey guys.
Had a great DD yesterday. I even went to a restaurant for a friend's birthday. I had 4 chips with queso on them. For the rest of the day, I had chicken noodle soup and some deli meat. I wasn't really hungry anyway, but just a little. I lost half the weight I gained over the weekend. I'll have to do a lower MD today because there's alot of food things going on tomorrow. Hubby's been complaining about eating "healthier" lately, so I can def make that happen tonight. I hope you all are doing better than we were this weekend!

Today is my second DD and I am starting out hungry. I am sipping on a protein shake which thankfully tastes good, lol. I'm going to be working on my ebay stuff so I'll be able to distract myself for a while. I'm going to have some miso soup for lunch. It's a bit high in sodium but I drink a lot of water and I'll be able to flush it out. I lost a lb. which puts me at 10 lbs. lost. Yay me! Most of it coming off my stomach. It's the first place I gain weight and thankfully the first place I lose weight. I hope everybody has a great day!

If there's one thing we JUDDers have learned its that some DD are harder than others LOL! Its almost impossible to predict just sometimes they're brutal and other times they're almost a cake walk. Hang in there... and remember our mantra "tomorrow tomorrow I'll eat that tomorrow" lol. |

Leo - that is very interesting. Keep us posted as to how you find Wed and Fri.
Kisha - I agree, there seems to be no rhyme or reason (for me) as to why some DD's are harder than others. I do remember when my DD's were low and I was first starting JUDDD that after about 2 weeks my body adjusted and they got easier. But even now on maintenance some days I want to eat MORE! lol Welcome vanillayo! |

I have noticed many of the same things. It's truly amazing how habit and hunger can be confusing. I think I could fast for a day easier than I could do a 200 cal day. A little food seems to make me want more. Although, probably if I ate 1/2 ounce of cheese at 10, 1/2 ounce at noon, and an ounce at 2, I might could do it. Cheese seems to stave off hunger for me better than absolutely anything else (although it might not otherwise be the best thing for me...). I definitely found that planning ahead and creating a 500 cal meal and eating one time in the middle of DD is one way that I can successfully manage a DD. I am with Kisha, your attunement to your body is amazing. I hope I can find the same. I am thinking about trying to cobble together an Official Unofficial YMMV JUDDD Tip List. Did someone mention that there is a FAQ or something like that which can be posted at the top of the monthly thread? , Vanilla. You found a very good place to be. We can do hard things. Oh...BG this morning 103. Big change in a few days. I can live with that. --bill

Nitenurse- It's good that you can be satisfied with shakes because that's a sure fire way to get in enough nutrients with fewer calories. Alas, I don't do well with shakes. Part of it is the sweeteners, all of which make me hungry, but also I seem to need 'mouth food' to be satisfied. My body seems to be happier with a cucumber that I can chew than a protein-rich shake.
I will affirm everyone's comment about how unpredictable DDs can be--sometimes a breeze and at other times, it's 'white knuckle' all the way. And it doesn't appear to have anything to do with what I ate on my UD or my exercise, or anything (well, it probably has to do with what's going on in my mysterious body, but who knows what that is ![]() |

Finished a good DD today...
had 1 egg beater with 1/2 a bison brat for 75 cals at breakfast; two CG crisps with mustard, 1 slice of turkey and 1 no sugar added sweet pickle slice for 74 cals and at dinner had 2 egg beaters with the other 1/2 bison brat, and 11 shrimps for an additional 180 for total 329 for the day...all that's left now is to go to bed!
Congratulations on your anniversary Redeemed! |

GrammyPat-
Your DD menu sounds delicious! Are you enjoying the bison? I'm curious about how you figured the calories in the brat. I e-mailed them about the calories in their hot dogs, and they sent me all the nutritional info [90 cal], but I hate to do that for each item. I've noticed that for steak and burgers, it's generally about 40 cal an ounce, but I don't have more specific info. I'm expecting some hot dogs from them today, along with my holiday turkey! |

054.gif Sounds like everyone is doing good on their down days.
Vanilla: Congrats on your weight loss. Leo: I read the brief of that study also. I wondered if the time frame for the window of eating was picked at random, or what? Can't wait to hear how it works for you. nitenurse: Glad your shakes are working well for you. I'm not much of a shake person, but sometimes I will put a cup of blueberries and a cup of Almond Breeze and ice in the blinder. Then I'll add a little NuStevia Blend all for around 120 calories. So Delicious. Crystal: You've got willpower, girl!! I've never gone to a restaurant on a DD - don't know how well I'd do. GrammyPat: Thank you for the well-wishes. DH and I are looking forward to the next 25 years! That will make him 91 for our 50th as he's ten years older than me. He was a confirmed bachelor until he was 41, when I met him. I waited until I was in my 30's to to marry because I didn't want to make a mistake and marry the wrong person. You posted something a few pages back that I can say describes my marriage: "Progress not perfection!" Hope everyone has a great day! Last Night's dinner went well. I ended up having something entirely different from the menu and ate only half. I told myself when I had eaten half: "I am really not hungry now and don't need to finish this." I put it in a food container and brought it home. I'm not doing low carb with JUDDD and don't like to post what I eat when it's high carb because I don't want to make some of you low carbers feel bad. Anyway, the evening turned out very nice. No weight gain this morning. Today is a DD and an overnight shift. Another challenge. I am enjoying JUDDD more and more each day.

Morning all! Well yesterday was definitely a medium day. I didn't really do lunch, but there were baked chicken wings (with some hawt sawss!) and a shrimp quesadilla for dinner.
Ugh, I had to bake a cake last night. I iced it this morning and never want to see another piece of cake again. PUKE. I licked one too many spoons. ![]() Anyway, there was also a potluck and I really didn't care for that much besides two dishes, so I didn't go tooooooo heavy. And we're going out for lunch in about half an hour and I'm still feeling the effects of this morning's indescretions, so I'm not feeling worried. Maybe I'll finally try some oysters. Even if they ARE gross, I *must* be able to say I've tried them. (And maybe the oysters will make sure I don't eat anymore today.) I wouldn't be surprised if I'm already near 2/3 of my cals, just because of the food options. Last edited by CrystalPistol; 11-18-2009 at 09:00 AM.. |

heya all,
I have been stalking....errr...lurking here for a few weeks. You are all such an inspriation! My husband and I are doing Judd together. We've been doing Judd for a few weeks now and doing really well. Have started off with doing M/W/F but think i may try doing a M/W/F / Sun med day thing - the week end off while enjoyable, seems to throw me off track somtimes. a quick question - Has anyone had any lab tests/ health changes or doctor feed back in regards to judd benifiting them? And has anyone had major success on Judd - I can't seem to find many in my google searches. Thanks ...and thank you all for contributing to a wonderfuly supportive thread. |

Hi Perfect-
I think it's great that you and your husband are doing this together because I've posted previously that I don't know how anyone can cook for a husband and/or children on a DD! I can only manage because I live alone and can stay out of the kitchen on DDs. I've also posted previously that my endocrinologist is wild about my progress with JUDDD. I see him every 4 months for bloodwork, etc. because I'm hypothyroid (and also post-menopausal) and have a compromised metabolism. He knows how it's almost impossible for someone in my situation to lose weight since I need to eat <1000 cal a day. For the past 11 months, I've been losing just about one pound a week with JUDDD (and low carb) after stalling on standard low carb because of the difficulty of restricting my calories on a daily basis. My endo thinks my progress is amazing, and he is going to recommend JUDDD to some of his other patients who are in similar situations. I haven't experienced any real changes in my lab reports but I've also been eating low carb for several years before beginning JUDDD. |

Wow! That is wonderful Leo and great to hear. You must be so proud of yourself for all the progress you have made in a year!
![]() I am hypothyroid as well and have struggled and failed with my weight for so long. I am on 150MCG Levoxthyroxine a day now and to hear some people it would be belived once I take that little pill the weight should just magiclly fall off. In reality it doesnt work that way. My husband is wonderfully supportive and so far it has been a motto of " I can diet for 1 day ". He has High blood pressure and is a cancer survivor. Losing weight would be the best for both of us. |

Perfect-
Yes, I know there are people here on the thyroid thread who think that once they begin meds their weight will just drop immediately. All the meds do is allow us to lose weight because without them it would be impossible. Note: If the following is TMI, just ignore ![]() I see that you're only taking T4 and want to share my experience. I did well on 75 mcg of Levoxyl for a few years (regular blood tests), and then suddenly I gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I wasn't on JUDDD then but was eating low carb and restricting my calories fairly well, and yet I suddenly gained on the exact same WOE. I was devastated and had no idea what the problem was. I was also incredibly fatigued and attributed the weight gain to napping too much--i.e., not moving much. Fortunately, I was due for one of my regular blood tests right after this happened, and my T3 was so low that it was below the lab range. My endo prescribed Cytomel, and my fatigue vanished in 48 hours. Unfortunately, I had to lose those 10 lbs as slowly and painfully as any other weight gain. I don't know how often you're checked, but if you find yourself stalled or gaining, I'd suggest being checked because your T3 might be low. Ideally, it should be 2/3 to 3/4 of the range--never below half. Another thing I'm noticing is that although I need to restrict calories severely in order to lose, that also suppresses my T3, which then slows loss. It's a vicious cycle of trying to fool my body by occasionally (once or twice a month) having a higher calorie UD than usual. Again, if you find yourself stalled, you might try increasing calories on UDs because it could be the thyroid that's the problem. |

Well, I had a great DD yesterday. I was more hungry than my first one but I could handle it. I had a great dish that was so wonderful I had it today too. Shrimp over riced cauliflower with some ginger sauce. I am not used to cooking for myself because of using the processed food. This is so much better! It takes some effort but I will get used to it. I need to find dishes that I can use for more than one meal.

Hey JUDDDers!!
Is there anyway ya'll might take me back? I fell waaaay off plan when I started having all the trouble with my thyroid meds, but I have been taking a compounded version and I am feeling a little better everyday. My levels fell extremely low and my TSH was high. It was horrible. I decided that I was gaining weight while doing JUDDD, so why bother.....Well, going off plan and throwing in a DD once in a while wasn't helping either. I haven't had a good week on JUDDD in quite a while. Then I had some personal issues going on and a death in the family, BUT now I know I need to get back on track. I need it for my health and the weight loss. I am so glad to see alot of familiar faces, Kisha, Leo, Redeemed, EMandM, Snaggle, Caramel, it is great to see you guys! Okay, so I am doing a DD today, and going to weigh in the morning and change my siggy weight. I think I am up about 8 lbs from that. I also find I do ALOT better when I am checking in here daily! So, I'm back!!! ![]() I still love JUDDD! It is the one I feel I will always come back to. Michelle

Hi, shell, you can correct that 8 pounds so efficiently with JUDDD - you know exactly how! I've been so amazed by you before.
Welcome to vanillayo and 2perfectgirls (love that photo). Hope the DD is successful, nitenurse. My day today has been sweet potato (yum) and a big salad, brussel sprouts, small portion of rice/beans. And then SOMEHOW some chocolate cake got in there! Absentmindedness! Good grief! Still within plan, but ![]() |

Struggling
I just really feel like eating today! (DD)
I can't really say I'm hungry I just hear the peanuts in the vending machine calling me. Three more hours then I can get home and eat an eggwhite scramble... I'll be out and about tonight so its these last few hours of work I've got to survive. |

Love the llama photo!
Welcome Perfect! My DH used to raise llamas so they have a special place in his heart and mine too! Leo, I LOVE the bison! I got the calories by googling "calories in bison bratwurst" so 90 is what I got. Isn't it interesting how North Star does not post the number of calories other than by oz. for the plain bison meat? I guess they feel they're redundant if they post calories for all their products? I got the Italian seasoned sausage links - yum! Welcome back Shell - good to have your enthusiasm back on the boards again. You guys know who I miss too? Mammapo! I think she lost a bunch of weight on JUDDD and is on maintenance too. But I remember her saying "embrace the hunger"....this helps me through some really looooong DD's by telling myself I'm getting thinner, and that the hunger is actually from my body tapping into fat stores (that's a good one, huh?
) but that and little "food parties" in my head help me through the DD's. Tomorrow is the next one.....have a great night all! |
