Hey Bill, no I've never been to Millie's but keep hearing how good the food is there! It's one of the top Richmond restaurants voted by people who live here. Hope you had a great day off at the beach - sounds wonderful!

Leo, I'm like you - man, one bowl of oatmeal and I'm off to the races eating every kind of carb you can think of! For some reason, if I eat any carbs first thing in the am, I'm eating carbs the rest of the day. I do so much better when I eat only protein in the morning. Just another example of how different we all are, and how alike some of us are too!

Well, my UD today was really UP! but that's OK, tomorrow is the wonderful, diuretic, and cleansing DD! I really gotta start planning better menus for UD's. Have a great week everyone!

Had a really good dd-about 400 cals, 2 shakes, 1 soup, 1 small part of an Atkins bar. I am going to have a couple mds, monday and fri, and uds on Tues & Thurs, to get myself into Thanksgiving-out of it is even more interesting. Have planned a really good menu, andeveryone can take home the things I should never have, carbs and sugar and wheat. I will focus on salad and meat when I have my own leftovers on the weekend. Good luck to all of us.

I had a good down day too. Didn't have anything until about 3, when I had some soup, then I just had a piece of chicken and some green beans.
This is the first one below 500cal I have pulled off all week.
Plus I did a hard spinning class this morning for an hour.
The best part of my day however was fitting into a pair of size 8 DKNY skinny jeans.
Didn't buy them. I may have been able to squeeze into them, but I looked like a ridiculous middle aged goof-ball.

873641qsfmzadxhx.gif Good morning everyone!

nitenurse: Glad you had a good DD yesterday. I, also, will need to work myself out of Thanksgiving. Good plan about sending home the leftovers with your guests.

Snaggle: You're too funny! Do you know how many women would love to be in a a size 10 jeans? Sounds like those size 8's will fit when you're at goal. Something to look forward to.

I am trying something different for my UD today. Supper at 5 AM, lunch at noon, and light breakfast at 9:30 PM when I get home. This will give me energy to get through the day and hopefully help in controlling calories. I made supper yesterday for family, so I'm having leftovers this AM.

DD today and am hoping for two good ones in preparation for Thanksgiving--although I'll be eating in a restaurant where I find it easy to stay on plan (i.e., primal with no sugar or starch).

Yesterday I used my UD not to eat a lot of treats but a lot of food to try to stimulate my thyroid, which I know is suppressed with those low calorie DDs. I think that's why in the past I found that I lost more if I "overate" on at least one UD. That used to be accidental, but yesterday I planned to eat a lot. I was actually hungry and never 'stuffed,' so it felt right--all protein and veggie carbs with olive oil for seasoning. Now I hope it works

Finally, I lost 2# on the scale, so that would be 23# since June 15, about a pound a week as Leo does. Which is just wonderful for this slow loser. I went upabout 7# in Sept with wedding/reunion, and that is now gone and these 2# besides. FINALLY.
Excuse me for babbling, just wanted to share that patience does pay off with JUDDD-actually, I have nowhere else to go, I have tried everything else at one time or another and this is going to be my lifetime way of coping with food.
I don't know if it is SIRT kicking in, but I am also in less pain. I am trying to get off the Ibuprofen, which I have needed to get through the day and move around at all-didn't think that was going to be possible either, but seems to be happening.
Going to make this a MD; shakes, etc, and a small meal about 5.

Nitenurse-

It could be the SIRTI that is diminishing your pain because I've noticed a significant pain reduction myself with JUDDD. For a few years, I've been eating an anti-inflammatory diet and exercising to get off my NSAIDs, but I often had to take a pain pill in the evenings because by that time the level of pain would interfere with my sleep.

But for the past several months, I haven't needed any pain meds at all, and that could be the effect of JUDDD. Whatever the reason, it's a welcome change.

Monday's DD came in at about 200 cal. I didn't do that 10 am-2 pm window, mainly because I was hungry in the morning. But an egg white omelet at
6 am held me until 3 pm, so I think I was better off eating when I was hungry.

I find that trying to deal with a specific eating 'window' makes me too focused on food and eating.

Good Morning JUDDDers!!

Well, my DD yesterday was a little high. I kept going back for more almonds...darn it. Compared to the last few weeks I am doing great, so I will just keep on.

I am feeling better, so I think my thyroid levels are finally getting optimized. I just feel like doing more and getting things done.

Anyway, I will check in a little later!

703784jl3qt1u4ao.gif Yesterday's UD went very well. I think it helped having supper for breakfast and a light breakfast for supper. I'm not that hungry in the morning so there was no "second helpings" for my meal.

nitenurse: Congratulations on your two pounds off. And congratulations for your overall loss of 23 pounds.

Leo: You have been our example of how "slow and steady wins the race."

Thanksgiving plans are to go to my sister's in northern Minnesota. So looking forward to the food and fellowship. I don't plan on pigging out, but I won't be skimping either.

Have a great day everyone!

Michelle: I'm glad you are feeling better. I like the way JUDDD makes you feeling like you have some control in managing your weight, while at the same time allowing you to eat your favorite foods. I'm glad your thyroid situation is getting straightened out. I know feel so much better since starting thyroid meds. It has certainly made a difference in helping me lose weight. Glad you're back!

Agreed, I love the fact that I feel like I am in control of a substance (food) that has always had control of me/my life. At least I am in control for a day at a time. Not bad.
And I am also sure I am spending less money on food if I have DDs 50% of the time.
Wow! Something to get us through this holiday.

I just took my turkey out of the oven! I bought one from my organic/free-range source because I love turkey (and the smell of one roasting in the oven), but on Thanksgiving, I'm going to a restaurant with my sister and niece.

I won't order the turkey entree because that usually comes with dressing and gravy and other things that I don't eat. I've checked the menu, and there are lamb and salmon entrees that look delicious and fit my WOE. Since my sister actually hates turkey and never orders it, I won't feel too out of place.

The holiday is for family and friends, and the food we share can be anything at all. I'll have turkey, but my own way (my favorite side dish is brussels sprouts roasted in olive oil and garlic combined with chopped bacon).

Of course, Thursday is an UD

I'm doing DD today, UD/MD for tomorrow - tomorrow night is "Friendsgiving" with my friends with the works traditional meal. LC should be no problem but low cal isn't likely on the table! Thursday I'm going to Black Angus with the old folks (all my grandma's sibs are in their nineties!) Normally we do the deal at my moms but this year my moms not up to it. Needless to say I'm not complaining about Black Angus! So Again, LC no problem but definately not Low Cal. In fact Thursday will probably be a super Up Day with lots of meat and veg and butter!

Hi All- great dd today. Spent the morning at the distribution center for our local food bank. The need right now locally is so much more than in the past. After a few hours of packing boxing bags of beans, then cans of veggies, I felt I had had a good workout.
Managed to stay busy the rest of my day off preparing marinated/pickled veggies for an antipasto platter we are bringing to my brothers Thursday. This will be the first T-day I haven't been in charge of turkey in a long time, so it is fun to work on other dishes and not have to worry about the big bird. Looking forward to being with all the family. It is my favorite holiday because it isn't so commercialized and because it just celebrates being with loved ones and being thankful for our blessings.

593568p887g2dyd0.gif Morning everyone! I'm sure many of you are busy with Thanksgiving preparations. My sister is doing all of the cooking (by her request). I'll bring the pies (Marie Callendar). I don't have time for baking. She said that was just fine.

I took a peek at the scale this am. Up one pound. How did that happen? This week may be a wash with an Up Day followed by Thanksgiving. I'm not too discouraged. I knew the rapid weight loss had to slow down. I won't be posting tomorrow as I work tonight until 8:00 am - then sleep until noon - then head up North to my sisters.

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Christian-5-june.gif

Redeemed-

I find that there are a lot of fluctuations with JUDDD. If I weigh mid-week, even after a DD, I'll often show a gain of a pound or two, which can be very, very demoralizing. Yet if I wait until my usual Saturday morning weigh in, those pounds will be gone, along with another for the week. Knowing this keeps me from getting on the scale more than once a week, although I'm often tempted.

Redeemed - I was once a slave to daily weigh-ins and it drove me bananas. As with Leo, I would be all over the place within a given week (even up in weight after a DD ). Once I started weighing once a week or less, it always showed a loss. Now that I am on maitenance I still weigh once every week, sometimes every two weeks. This in itself is a miracle, as I used to weigh daily. I told myself I did it to decide how I would eat for that day, but it ended up affecting my mood, so I went to the weekly weigh-ins instead. Fluctuations are normal and I bet you see a loss soon!

Enjoy the Thanksgiving festivities everyone!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my JUDD friends.

One of the things I am so grateful for this year is our wonderful thread and all the support we provide each other. I am convinced we are the best group on LCF!!!

I will be sticking to A PLAN today and tomorrow. It won't be JUDD per se but my alternative is two days of good clean Atkins style OWL eating. Then back to JUDD on Friday after the Holiday.

I may not be online much over the long weekend...

Thank you ALL for everything you do for me! You are an important part of my life.

Sherrie, gee, Grammy Pat thinks EmandM and I will have wisdom for you!

Well, IMO the name of the UD/DD game is Plan, Plan, Plan. I would have failed, failed, failed, if I had not. I think sometimes we tend to overplan the DD but then stop thinking when the UD rolls around. I notice EmandM posted about not “wasting” UD calories on something just because it was there, and that’s part of what I mean. Ideally, during an UD, I should pretty much know what I’ll be eating the next day but also the following UD, so there’s no chance my cupboard isn’t stocked and ready for me, calories in line. It makes all the difference in the world. The worst mistake I can make is to wake up on an UD without a plan. I sometimes set aside a portion of a certain food for myself for the next UP day to remind myself I’m not being deprived, AND to know in advance a part of the calories I plan. Just think, if you get under 200 pounds you and your doctor can reassess and make a choice about surgery. With excellent rehabilitative exercise (Leo mentioned water exercise, which is great. Grammy Pat and I might mention T-Tapp.) your knees could be so much stronger, though, and give you more options.

Thanks for the report on cutting out grains and dairy, Leo.

So happy for nitenurse about the lack of pain and 2-pound loss.

Gee, Snaggle, it takes bravery to even take the size 8s to the dressing room! Great work volunteering.

Yes, the dollar signs $$$$$ deserve to be mentioned. We are all saving money over how we would normally be eating, I’m sure. I had someone ask me how much I was spending on my weight-loss plan when I was a few weeks in. It took me a minute to get it through my own head  but of course it was a negative amount. How virtuous is that?

Happy Thanksgiving

I won't be online tomorrow at all, as I'll be gone all day, but, like Kisha, I wanted you all to know how much I appreciate your presence here. I am certain that I would not have had success with JUDDD without all of you. This board is invaluable to me.

By the way, JUDDD is historically apt for Thanksgiving. The other day, there was an Op-Ed essay in the NY Times commenting that the 'feast' of Thanksgiving is a development of our consumer society. The Pilgrims would have balanced the feast with a strict fast prior to the feast.

I was thinking of this during today's DD--a fast in preparation for tomorrow's UD. And reminding myself that the people I'll be with are more important than the food on the table.

Happy Thanksgiving JUDDDers!!!
I've been in the shadows these past 2 weeks. Feels more like 3 actually. Life kinda threw our family a curve ball, so I've been on a spiritual fast, and many times feeling too low to even post anything.
We're in a much better place right now, and I have switched back to alternate day juddding.

Like every body else, I am especially thankful for LCF. This website has been a life changer for me. Juddders, u are special because you inspire me & are all so gracious and supportive to each other.
Thank God for you all & Happy Thanksgiving.

Made it through the Bird Day-upday of course. Funny the "treats" didn't taste that good.
The Good news was that because I am in less pain, I was able to help more with the 3 days of cooking. The bad news was also because I am in less pain, and able to help more, I was so tired today I was just wishing the whole thing would go away.
Everyone scattered to the 4 corners of Montana, taking ALL the leftovers with them except some turkey and all the salad veggies.
I am torn between having a real DD tomorrow, or a MD and just eating 1 meal later in the afternoon. We'll see what tomorrow feels like.
The also good news was that I did eat just a couple spoons ful of everything and filled up pretty fast and was glad to be done eating. All that cooking, can't believe that was everyday when the kids were little.
Hope everyone had a good day, too, I am thankful for all of you and someplace to come for encouragement.

Those of you like Caramel who cooked and also stayed on plan are amazing!

I was fortunate to eat in a restaurant, so it was easy to eat healthily and wisely. Although it was an UD, only my calories were higher than usual [actually pretty much UD level]; I had just meat (lamb, turkey) and vegetables. It certainly feels good today not be be regretting any indulgence yesterday.

Since I cut out all artificial sweeteners, I find that I'm not really tempted by desserts or anything sweet (although I had a world-class sweet tooth in my 'former life'). For example, our dinner yesterday included dessert, so I ordered a slice of pie, and my sister and niece split it (in addition to their own). It sat in front of me for a while, but I wasn't the least tempted to even taste it (knowing that one taste would lead to consuming the entire piece). I wonder whether AS keep people tempted because the body considers them the same as real sugar?

Have decided I am going to bite the bullet and have a DD today, I have about 2 qts of Romaine lettuce, and other green veggies, so I am going to have 100 cal turkey salad with nocal Walden Farms dressing three times today. I will get full for sure. Will let you know if this works.lol.

Wow Leo41 I admire your will power in keeping away from the sweets because although I have lost quite a bit of weight with this woe of eating, which I love, I still have a bit of problem with the sweet tooth. I can keep them out of the house and that helps me but when I am at a event of some sort I seem to gravitate towards the sweets and totally loose it and feel so guilty later, and it seems that a weeks worth of hard work has been wasted. I don't know how else to control it but just to keep it out of the house. Anyone else have problems with this and have over come it? Any suggestions that might help me would be appreciated.Hope I didn't bring anyone down.

everyone have a nice day.
A Hearty welcome to
Glory be

Speaking of sweets...There's a thread in the ML: "Rate of Diabetes to Triple". BloodSugar101 says sweets or obesity don't cause Type II Diabetes. Hmmm...pass the pie, please! Just kidding. But I do still indulge my sweet tooth. The reason I choose JUDDD was because I wanted to keep some sweets and bread in my diet. So long as I don't let My UD's become a total free for all, I think I'll be fine. Congratulations to those of you who did so well on Thanksgiving. This was the first DD I actually looked forward to. I am sooo loving this woe.
