After NO loss last week, down 3 lbs this week! And it's all due to the way my body is functioning. Last week, I was feeling tired and lethargic and thought that I was either getting ill or my thyroid hormones were off. It probably was hormonal to some extent (I think Weasel mentioned that), but whatever it was corrected itself because this week I was the opposite--so energetic I found myself looking for little projects around the house to do.

Another Milestone

Yesterday I did a water fast [I call it that because it was just black coffee and green tea all day--zero calories] --after convincing myself that I would never even bother to try one because my DDs were going fine, so why mess with things? But I woke up Friday morning and just felt like trying--I surprised myself with this idea. I knew breakfast would be the hardest part because I always eat in the morning, and I told myself I would eat what I'd planned if I felt that I needed do. But I had my coffee and no desire to eat. By 2 pm, I knew I was home free because I often don't eat at night, but here's the really odd thing. I've recently been hungry on DDs (as I've reported here), but I felt absolutely no hunger during this WF. I felt "empty" but not really hungry and very energized. And when I woke up this morning, I wasn't hungry either, but I had normal breakfast and am totally satisfied, so there's no residual hunger with this.

I'd like to say I'll do one of these each week (which I'd like to do), but I did it yesterday because it 'felt' right, so I'll have to see if it continues to feel right next week.

Leo - Awesome!! Great job on the water fast. I am doing one today, but like you I will try and stick to it if it "feels right".

Congrats on the 3 lbs!

Another DD, another pound lost!

I tipped the scale at 140 today. Another pound down! Nine pounds lost since starting JUDDDD on June 8 at 149.

Wow! 140! I haven't seen that number since March 9, 2008. Including that day, I weighed 140 on two days in March '08, three days in February '08, and three days in January '08, none of them contiguous. (The lowest number I hit in early '08 was 139 on a couple of dates.) Before that, I'd have to go back to a stretch in 2005 and possibly 2004. Before that, I'd have to go back to the 1990s.

Friday was DD#15, making five complete MWF DD cycles. The only thing different was that my fat/carb/protein ratios were 41/36/23 instead of their usual 70/5/20. Just felt like a change of pace. I had my usual two HB eggs, then Kashi natural cereal instead of a salad with vinaigrette, then later some peanut M&Ms, and there it is. Still came in at my goal of 350 calories.

After I'm safely in the 130s, and out of the yoyo zone, I'll try upping calories to 500 on DDs.

Leo....congratulations on your 3 lb....TERRIFIC. I just love that you're so steadfast in your plan, even when the scale isn't showing a loss.

Weasel....9lb in one month when you're so close to goal is tremendous. That is inspirational

Remy...thanks for the encouragement. Hope you get to see that WOOSH!!

I'm so excited....have had the JUDD book on reserve at the library for over a month now and it just came in today!! Thought I would read it first before I bought a copy to see if it was worth it. Guess my projects for today will just have to wait....timing seems perfect!

Remy-

Way back when I used to have TOM, I always gained water weight--often as much as 5-7 lbs. So you may be closer to 120 than you think! Don't let the number depress you.

Sherrie-

You probably already know most of the stuff in the book, but I re-read parts occasionally to keep me inspired. So reading the book might help you climb back on the JUDDD wagon and stay the course.

He has some great recipes in the book, but he's into carbs, and most of them are far too carby for me. But he also has a long list of suggestions for DD foods that's helpful.

Stay with us. I don't think this is an "easy" plan, but it is getting results for me, and that makes it worth it.

OMG i have a new favorite...
Kind Bars
They have all sorts of flavors, they are so good. The one i got was the nut delight... it was just a big clump of nuts held together with honey like sticky stuff -no filler, just lightly sweetened.
Some of the flavors are very low on the GI scale, uber filling, and super yummy. I especially like the fruit and nut delight, nut delight, almond apricot and the almond and coconut.

I noticed they were at many of my local grocery markets, they are in the 'health' food section usually by all the other snack bars. I know here in the midwest they have them at kowalskis (upscale market), lunds, byerlys, cub, and whole foods. Not sure if you have any of those, ad i think each store is different. They are in clear packaging... you can actually see what you are goign to be eating which i think is very cool, they are just so 'pure' looking compared to other snack bars or granola bars.

Remy- I need to find out the brand, but we have discovered a similar type bar. Mostly nuts, a little dried fruit and a little sweet binder. NO protein powders or maltitol or anything artificial. The ones we like are around 200 cal each, but are super filling and delicious. These look very similar.

I hit 155.5 today and am very happy. Changed siggy to 156 since I am wierd about not changing it until I hit it twice.
Poor husband.......................it always seems that when I am in a losing mode, he is stalled and vice-versa. For the first month of being on Atkins, then JUDDD, he dropped 20 lbs pretty quick and got to 218 a while ago. Now, poor Mark hasn't gotten below 220 in 3 weeks!! I am not sure how to advise him. My hunch is that he isn't going up enough on his up days. Plus, I have been diligently working out the entire time and he is very sporadic.
The other thing is I wonder if he could be hypo?? He is cold a lot and tends to retain water like crazy. (always has puffy ankles/calfs)
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of guys getting hypothyroidism?

That sounds like KIND bars... yes, they vary from i think 190-220 calories or something. Some of them have as low as 14 carbs -most of the bar is nuts (not sure if you do net carbs or not but then it would be around 10). Not ideal for a VERY low carb diet, but they are great to have around.
Lately i have really been consuming moderate carbs i guess you can call it, around 40-50 carbs or so... i make them good carbs, and these work into my diet perfectly. Considering much of the rest of my diet is salad with just oil/vinegar and meat.

Yeah, Remy, I TRY and eat low carb, and definitely do on my dd's, but have been so happy to have found some success AND have carbs with JUDDD. I still try and avoid processed carbs and sugar as much as possible, altho I have been on this pizza grilling kick lately...............................

Okay here goes:
L-E-O!!! So great!!!! I am so happy for you and relieved you are feeling better, more than anything. The 3 lbs is just icing on the low carb cake!!!

Weasel-- you too!! congrats. 8 lbs in a month is so great, especially at your fairly low weight.

Katwhitts-- yeah, isn't JUDDD great?? way to go.

Oncenforall-- Welcome back to the fold. Stick with us and you got nowhere to go but down, baby!
Everybody else------------Yeeeeehaaawww! Have a great up/down weekend.

I had a very small protein shake... vanilla like always.
Then i had an Alaska Roll, a fruity drink thing in a funny cup, a beer
Then i had ice milk for desert -not a low carb day, but coming in fairly low in cals for an UD with all the exercise i did. Very ealry in the morning (5:00 am-i could not sleep), i had a small cesar salad. I had a very good day, very happy with myself
Today i am having two KIND bars- baked chicken thigh that i am stuffing with herbs from my garden and some yogurt (sugar free)with fresh berries later tonight. YUM YUM, so good.

Thanks, Weasel. JUDDD has worked so well for me that I knew when I didn't lose that it was either something wrong in my body--or my body was taking its time to show the loss on the scale.

Snaggle-
Although women are "known" for hypthyroidism, men get it, too. If your husband has symptoms, he should get checked. Do you know a doctor who actually knows how to read the labs and treat?

Re: Kind bars

I found them all over the place on the internet, and I don't want to burden anyone with my "no processed food" mantra, but I'm very suspicious of any company that doesn't list nutritional information on its website. When I click on "nutritional info," I just get a description of what's in it--and its not complete. Drugstore dot com has a full list of ingredients (which is how I know that the kind site doesn't include everything), but no one gives calorie, carb, protein count. I always want to know whether I'm getting a nutritional bang for my calories. And since they're mostly nuts, why not just a handful of nuts? Again, just my non-processed food bias. . . .

When i go to the site, it has the nutiriotn info, all of it. It is a pop up window, maybe it only works on certain browsers?
I tried another browser, still works... with everything from ingredients to fiber, cals etc.

I like that the almond coconut bar is slightly sweet, can be held in my hand and is a good portion size, i also like that it has 8 ingredients. I also like that they are made in Australia, they have no GMO, sulfur dioxide, gluten, low in sodium and wheat free.

I think the one I had must have been a kind bar because it was almond coconut.
I remember reading the ingredients and being really impressed at how pure and simple it was. I also remember thinking it was filling.
Now I want to go buy one!! The starbucks logo on their website makes me wonder if they have them there???????? Being here in Seattle, I have like 3 that are a stones throw from my store.

Just stopping by to say, "Hi!" Glad to see so many finding success. I'm still on my experiment woe and so far so good. I found this calorie-saving food item on a recent post by Retroworx and wanted to share it with you. I think it looks like a winner and am looking forward to trying it if I can find it:

Unsweetened MimicCreme

This is a fluid (non-powder) cream that is made primarily from nuts -- much thicker than Almond Milk and can be used measure-for-measure in place of real cream. (Don't think it would whip up, though.) Has a rich flavor with a touch of nutty undertone -- not overpowering but not exactly like cream, either. Perfect for the lactose intolerant, less than .5 carb per TBSP, but even better, from my point of view, are the calories: 10 cals per TBSP, compared to 50 cals for the real stuff! Great for cream soups, faux mashed potatoes, etc. and home made ICE CREAM!!

Comes in those non-fridge packs. I don't think this has wide distribution yet, so I don't think you are likely to bump across it at Whole Foods or the like any time soon.

Let me know if you try it,

Remmy: If you're hungry for cold cereal, Kevenpa has posts here on LCFriends where he shares great recipe ideas. I don't know if you know much about him, but he has a wealth of LC recipes that are delicious. He has a cold cereal he makes that are supposed to tast like Sugar Pops. He has his own link with fantastic ideas. He is one of several with good ideas - but the cereal comes to my mind when I think of Kevinpa.

Well, made it through my first DD.....412 calories. (low sodium V8 and WW string cheese about 11AM, cucumber and 2 oz. chicken breast about 2PM and 4oz. broiled tilapia with steamed broccoli about 6PM) That gives me a little wiggle room if I am starving later, but think I'll just go to bed early instead!!

I read the book today and have to say I was really impressed with the science behind this plan....sounds like the plan to be on even if the weight loss isn't #1 priority. I really want to do this 100% for a month and see the difference in how I feel as well as the weight loss. I'm looking forward to having more energy and hopefully these old arthritic knees being less painful.

I'm pleased I've done a DD on a weekend....never would have thought that was possible. I'll probably stick to the MWF DD schedule but at least know that I can do it if necessary. Looking forward to my UD tomorrow as we're going out to eat tomorrow night. Don't think I'm even gonna count calories on UD's, but will try to make healthy (good carb) choices for the most part with a treat here and there without the guilt.

I'm excited about starting this journey (once again). Hope everyone's having a good weekend.

Glad you're back in the swing of things, Sherrie!

Snaggle-

Kisha and Gina listed the hypothyroid symptoms a couple of pages back on this thread. Mainly, he should be feeling more tired than usual, but, quite frankly, my symptoms came on so slowly that they seemed like minor complaints for a very long time. Low body temperature is the test that Dr. Broda Barnes used before blood tests were developed for diagnosis, and I actually did one of his tests on myself when my doctor kept insisting that my lab values were "normal."
