I run 3 to 4 miles 3 or 4 times a week. I have fallen in love with running! I'm also trying to get at least 30 minutes of upper body weights a few times a week also.

Well, I am in the last 5 or so hours of my first DD and it has gone really well! I also love not being on a "plan" and being told what to eat. This is freeing in a low calorie, down day kind of way.

I do appreciate seeing what people eat on their DDs because it gives me ideas! I have opted not to do the protein shake induction because I will either use ****** or verifiable calorie counts on nutrition information.

Today I've had:

Crystal Lite mix - 5 calories (who knew???)
Sugarless gum - 5 calories (and I chewed the heck out of it!)
Green Giant Healthy Vision veggies - 90 calories
String Cheese - 60 calories
Small V-8 - 35 calories

Total so far - 195 calories

Dinner will be salmon and green beans and a NSA Fudgesicle.

I cannot believe I made it this far without gnawing my arm off!
Laura this is what my DD looks like so far!

B- coffee with nondairy creamer and splenda, 4 cups with 4 tsp of cream@ 10 cal per tsp 50 calories w/splenda I think coffee has a few calories

L- 100 calories bag popcorn diet coke

D- Lean cuisine Herb roasted chicken 180 calories
small green salad (i'll count 50 calories) with FF Italian(1 tbsp 15 cal)
diet coke

395 calories I think it's around 375 but gave my salad a little extra calories, I rather over estimate rather under estimate.

Oh! I've chewed 2 pieces of SF gum!

Pushing 40, thanks for the great information. I do 3 HIIT sessions a week, usually on a treadmill and they are only 30 min (with 5 - 40 second sprints) then, alternate days do a mixed workout with about 1/2 hr. of weights, plus a spinning class on sundays (super intense cardio).
I am trying to figure out if it would be better to do the weight lifting days on my down days, or better to do the HIIT on the down days. Any idea?

I do my weight training and cardio on the same days. I also do HIIT. I've read it's best to do your weight training first. Though, I'm not sure whether it would be better to do workouts on UD or DD.

The book is Conquer the Fat Loss Code which is the follow-up to the Crack the Fat Loss Code (CTFLC) book which was the plan I was formerly on and my DH still follows. It looks like there is some really good information on how to make your exercise more effective in burning fat. So far I have only been able to read little bits of the book on amazon but have ordered it, so I will have more information in a couple of days. She also talks about beneficial supplements to take before and after exercise. I am really excited about the information and will definitely share. From what little I read, she recommends doing HIIT first thing in the morning or right after weight training. (which she would be recommended we do on DD on her plan it is carb-down days). She recommends EPOC if you are exercising in the afternoons to keep your metabolic rate up. It won't let me peek into the book to see the rest of this , so we will have to wait.

Wow I'm impressed with all of you who are exercising on a regular basis. So far I haven't started any. I have WOTP dvds but haven't started up with them since I had shoulder surgery in Feb. I THINK about exercising a lot. Too bad you can't burn calories by exercising the mind. I know that I need to just start walking 15-20 min at lunch time and then try to do it again when I get home from work. That's a great plan unless it's like today where it rained the entire day.

Well the kitchen is closed here and I finished up with 415 calories. I want to get my food planned out for tomorrow and then I'm off to listen to my audiobook and hopefully go to bed early.

I think the posting of up day food was originally Kisha's idea, but it does not sound like anyone wants to do it, so I will just keep my little diary to myself.
The biggest issue I have with up days is whether to allow carbs or not. I have not experienced good losses so far with this plan when I do, even though that was one of my main reasons for doing it. I still want to give it more time with the carbs before I go back to lower carb.

I finished my DD at 475 calories. I'm also 5 pounds down tonight from last night! I think the puffiness in my legs going down today, combined with a DD just got rid of 5 of the 6 pounds I put on last week on vacation. I really never expected THAT to happen, even though many of you report the same type of thing eating this way. I"m still doing FAST 5 and didn't eat tonight until about 7, That really helps! I tried to get 3 miles on the treadmill but started having stomach cramps. I'm not sure, but wonder if my Almond Breeze that I had in my egg cream might have been going bad. Heading to bed now. I'm really washed out and tired! night all!

Howdy! DD for me today and again I kept it under 400 calories. I'm having 2 shakes and 2 cups of coffee on my DD's. I have shakes to last 2 more days after today and then I think I'll start having real food on my DD's.

I'm hoping for a loss tomorrow since I didn't gain anything at all after my UD yesterday.

On Exercise--

I swim laps 3 days a week [ideally, 2 minimum] and also do a water exercise program for my arthritic legs designed by physical therapists for another 20 min.

Since I've been on JUDDD, I only swim on UDs, but last week, I had to miss on Thurs, and went instead on Fri. (a DD). I figured that energy would be no problem because I swim at 6 am, and I also eat early (about 4 am). It was no problem at all, and I kept the DD to 400 cal.

I'll keep my schedule of swimming on UDs, but it's nice to know that it can be managed on DDs if necessary.

Good Morning JUDDDers!

Yay, today is an UD! I made it through yesterday with just 330 cal. That's my lowest DD yet . I wish I felt like I was able to pull off a fast to help make up for my crazy eating this past weekend. Oh well, 330 cal isn't too bad. I'm still .8 pounds up from my low weight on Saturday, but that means that I dropped 3.2 pounds from my weekend.

I've come down with my little boys nasty cold . But, I am happy that both of my boys seem to be feeling better this week .

I wish I could incorporate swimming into my routine, I'd actually love cardio if I could do that. I swam 3-4 days a week when I was in college and had regular access to a pool.

My DD was pretty successful yesterday. I was determined to keep it clean after my crazy weekend.

I finished somewhere around 475 cals.

I didn't eat until about 6:00 p.m. had water, diet coke and 3 cups of coffee all day. At 6:00 I had a grilled chick sandwich (mustard and pickle only) from Burger King - couldn't go home - worked almost 15 or more hours yesterday - so that was the best choice.

That was it besides another cup of coffee w/sf ff cream.

Today is my UD and I hope to eat some healthy stuff!

Blessings to all!

Yeah Trish, good for you on the low DD. sorry to hear you have the cold, but I know what you mean about being glad your kids are better. Today is an UD for me also and yesterday was also my most successful DD, although not as low as yours. I have lost ALL of my vacation weight...down to 132.2 this morning which is actually about a 1/2 pound lower than I was before vacation. THis is amazing!

Enjoy your UD!

Yeah!! UD today for me. I finished my DD yesterday at 534 calories and felt really bad about it. Normally, I have a shake that's 340 calories and that's it. But, I was so HUNGRY! So, at least I got close to 500. Today, I have my UD planned out and I am going to stay on track. I REALLY want to get to 121 sometime this week. I maintained last week, no loss. It was no wonder with my outrageous UD"s. This week I am starting a true rotation and not doing the moderate day. I will throw it in, in the future, if truly needed.

I'm thinking about trying this to break a plateau I've hit. I have a question though. Did anyone eat some food on their first few DD and not do just shakes? I don't think I'll be successful if I am limited only to shakes. I understand that is what the diet recommends though.

I am a newbie and just starting my 2nd week. But, I've incorporated both shakes and some real food. I like the shakes because I can get a lot of protein and thats good for my days that I weight train. But it's nice to be able to have a little something to eat especially at the end of the day when my family is eating dinner. I don't think it matters whether you do shakes or real food as long as you stay under 500 calories.

Thanks, Trisha! I came up with my first DD menu for today:

AM: black coffee (5)
12pm: ff greek yogurt (140) cup of strawberries (50)
4pm: whey protein shake (100)
7pm: miso soup (45) hb egg (70) cup of raw veggies (50)

That puts me at 450. I'm really excited to try this. I really like fasting and enjoy the mental and spiritual benefits from it.

I eat food on my DD's sometimes. Last night I was so hungry I had fried eggs and bacon.

I tried the shakes the first day but they left me hungry. After that I ate real food and usually waited until dinner so that I could fill myself up instead of having a little all day - for me that just makes me want to eat more. I think doing it in a way that is doable for you is more important than what you actually eat, just be sure not to go over the 500 calories the first two weeks so that the SIRT1 gene kicks in which will make things easier.

Good Luck and

Hello and Welcome! I've always done food on my DD, it was easier for me because I use to fast 1-2 days a week.
Your menu look great! Go for it!

Hi. Checking in today. Yesterday was my DD. I consumed 626 calories and lost 3lbs (1lb fat loss). I am now at the same weight I was 10 years ago. Boy, that's been a LONG ten years! It was my 13 year old daughter's birthday too but I just busied myself in the kitchen while they ate chocolate silk pie. It payed off this morning and made me really glad I didn't partake.

I exercise daily but I am a moderate exerciser. I have found that I don't need to kill myself exercising. 20-40 Minutes of exercise on the treadmill either jogging part of it or inclining up to 10% throughout my workout gives me the results I want.

I'm continuing to plan each DD and UD in advance. Today, an UD, I have planned 77 carbs and 2100 calories (a piece of yesterday's b-day pie is in the menu). Following my pre-planned menu takes all the stress out of the day because I know just where I need to be and anything extra will derail me.

I am far from goal and don't want to waste my time going off plan...I don't know exactly why, but I'm at a point in my life that it is extremely important to me to get the extra weight off!!! This sounds funny, but last year I scraped, fixed, primed, and painted the whole outside of my home. After a whole summer of disciplining myself to repaint our new home, I realized I could do anything. This winter and summer I'm remaking over my physical home. When I'm done, then I KNOW I can do anything. It's just something I HAVE to do for myself!

Everyone is doing so well and I love the supportive feeling I get from this thread. It gives me someplace to be accountable and to feel encouraged as I meet my goals.
