Krafty, I am 5'3" , so I am very similar to you. I am also 48 yrs. old and I know that is part of it too (men-o-pause!!) It is just so frustrating to hit a low (163, 11 days ago), then not hit it again, and be back up (today, 165.5)
I do NOT want to starve myself to get below 160, but I am already only averaging 1150 cals per day and that doesn't seem to be working.
Size 6.............wow, never been there, ever. I can only dream of that.

That's wonderful! Congratulations! I know it might be shallow or vain or silly to feel this way, but it's the truth...My main motivation is not just a longer life or healthier body (though I want those, truly) what keeps me motivated on a hard DD is clothes. I keep a stack of catalogs in the kitchen and flip through them when my tummy is rumbling. Just a few minutes to imagine buying cute tops and little jeans and the perfect black dress, and I am fired up to stick to my plan! I love clothes, and hate spending money on big clothes, that I don't really like, just to cover. I've already warned my dh that when I get to goal? We might need a second mortgage

It's actually WHERE you are in the range that's significant. For example, when my T3 dropped to the lower tenth of the range, I was totally exhausted and gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks! My endo regulates my T3 to 2/3-3/4 of the range--which is where it's supposed to be. Similarly, he keeps my TSH at around 1.0. If it gets as high as 2.5 (well 'in range') I'm practically a basket case and can't lose weight at all. So you can be 'in range' and yet be in distress and need to have meds adjusted.

If you check out the thyroid section of these boards, you'll find that doctors who treat thyroid well are difficult to find. I know this from experience because I spent 5 years trying to get diagnosed while my primary physician kept telling me that I was fine because my labs were 'in range.' I was hypothyroid that entire time.
I'd love to find another doctor... problem is, I have crappy insurance and to go "doctor shopping" would cost us a lot of money. Though, I'm just about to the point where I think it might be worth it.

Last time I felt my thyroid was off, my doc agreed to increase my meds (every other day) because both my free T3 and TSH were borderline. This last time (a few months ago) I went to her and told her I didn't feel well and I felt my thyroid needed to be adjusted she wouldn't do it. TSH was at 2.7 and free T3 was borderline. I've done enough reading to know that even when numbers are in range, sometimes it's not going to put me at my personal ideal and I'll feel crappy.

Just checking in. On Sat I was down 7 lbs after my first 3 DD.

The weekend I had planned an UD on Sat and a MD on Sun and it ended up being 2 UD. Yesterday I ended up eating a bunch of chocolate. My husband bought Dove chocolates at the grocery store and I just couldn't stay out of them. I think I had 12 pieces in just a couple hours. Then I was hungry for the rest of the evening and was craving carbs so I ate way more than I should of. So this morning I'm up 3 lbs.

I think I'm going to have to either track my calories on my UD or implement the Fast 5 that some of you are successfully doing. I'm not beating myself up as I'm just completing my first week on the plan.

So I think I like the DDs better so far and I'm sure that's just because I have everything planned out and it makes it easy to stay on plan. Today is a DD and I'm planning on 320 cal:

B - Wasa Light Rye crisp, 1/2 laughing cow swiss cheese, 3 slices very thin sliced turkey breast, hot tea
L - Wasa Light Rye crisp, 1/2 laughing cow swiss cheese, 3 slices very thin sliced turkey breast, diet coke
D - Spinach salad with 1C strawberries. Sauted 2C broccoli and 1C mushrooms with 2 tsp parmesan cheese.

If I get too hungry in the evening, then I'll have one of my 100 cal protein shakes.

to the newbies and congrats on those of you reporting losses.

"Okay, so am I the only brave soul to dare and expose my up day menu?
I wanna know what you all are eating?? down days are boring, but the
fun of all this are the ups. DO share!" ` Snaggle

That reminds me of the time the pastor called for ALL in the congregation to come forward to the altar for prayer if they were struggling in their marriage. I thought half the church would go forward. My husband and I went forward. When I looked around, we were the only ones standing in front of the whole church for prayer! I felt so dysfunctional and messed up!! Anyway that was about 12 years ago and we're doing fine - so it must have helped!

About this posting everything we eat on UD's. For those of you who want to, that's great - but I'm not there yet.

I am up for posting on my UD. I need to figure out how to just copy it from ******. That would make it so much easier. If you guys see what I eat, I might make better UD choices. (like NOT 5000 Dove chocolates! ok, not quite that many)

Oh, and I can honestly say the sweet cravings are out of this world while taking these antibiotics. I have stooped to eating some Nerds that belonged to my son. I NEVER would eat these kinds of things, but I just want sugar!! Can't wait till this is over.

Michelle -- good plan! I'm going to tell my hubby he can't bring them in the house. He'll have to hide them in his car or something.

I'm sorry, but I don't see the point in posting UD menus. We can eat anything we want on UDs, so I don't know how my menu can help anyone else, especially since I restrict calories more than most. And if I'm on a DD, the LAST thing I want to read is someone else's UD listing of food!

DDs are different because calories are so limited that sometimes it helps to see what others eat.

I can't believe it!! I've not been in the 150s since elementary school!
On top of that, that makes 5 lb loss since starting JUDD less than 3 weeks ago! That is just unheard of for me! WOW!!!
Yay! Congratulations!!

I am excited to start this tomorrow but fearful also. I start soooo many different plans with a gung ho attitude and then fizzle out feeling deprived or nutty and, since hitting my mid-40s, frustrated at losing the same 10 pounds over and over again. I do have a lap band but I think the rest of this journey is up to me as I have been this same weight for the last year despite several attempts at losing more weight.

I am hypothyroid and learned a lot from reading the posts. I feel I do better with a little higher carb count using whole grains, fruits, etc. I have gallstones so I have to be careful eating too much fat because I am in agony afterward. I think the calorie counting will not be an issue as I have been a veteran Weight Watcher and am used to counting what I eat.

I look forward to learning a lot from everyone.

I appreciate all the lovely welcomes! Thanks so much.

Well, I am in the last 5 or so hours of my first DD and it has gone really well! I also love not being on a "plan" and being told what to eat. This is freeing in a low calorie, down day kind of way.

I do appreciate seeing what people eat on their DDs because it gives me ideas! I have opted not to do the protein shake induction because I will either use ****** or verifiable calorie counts on nutrition information.

Today I've had:

Crystal Lite mix - 5 calories (who knew???)
Sugarless gum - 5 calories (and I chewed the heck out of it!)
Green Giant Healthy Vision veggies - 90 calories
String Cheese - 60 calories
Small V-8 - 35 calories

Total so far - 195 calories

Dinner will be salmon and green beans and a NSA Fudgesicle.

I cannot believe I made it this far without gnawing my arm off!

UD Posting

What motivates me the most on this thread is reading about how the others are exercising; like GME, NWCrafty, and I think Michelle has posted about exercising. Holly's and LBishop's avatar are so inspiring. This really gets me thinking about going outside and walking. I think if I posted my UD eating, I might give some of you some bad ideas! But if it helps others, then I think they should be free to do so. I just don't want any rules or expectations about having to post. But I certainly would want others to feel the freedom to post if they want to.

Good points, Retroworx, I haven’t finished the book yet but one interesting thing is that they recommend 150g carbs for those with adrenal issues but I don’t understand why. Like I said I haven’t finished the book yet though so maybe it will become apparent later. They do suggest some things I have not yet tried… one being organic produce and only grass fed hormone free antibiotic free meat… (expensive!). They are looking at stall breaking from the perspective that the “crap” in our food often is causing the stalls and metabolic problems.

I am concerned about the “no counting” factor. They say if you stick to their list of veggies (similar to Atkins list) at one cup a day, 3-5 cups salad veggies, 1 serving of their “safe list” of fruit OR 1 serving of carb consous grains and 2 squares of 85% cocoa chocolate a day, you will automatically be at the right level of carbs and if you eat their suggested meat serving sizes you will automatically be at the right protein, and if you eat regular cuts of meat (not lean) and add max 4-5tbsp fat a day to your salad or veggies, you will automatically be at the right fat level.
I can see how a plan like this will help me maintain but I dunno about losing. I am skeptical.

But anyway step 1 for me is to actually get TESTING done which arg, I haven’t made an appointment yet which this time I can’t blame on the insurance. I will call on the ride home (I carpool and it’s not my turn to drive), we leave at 4:30 so hopefully the new Drs. office is open beyond that.

JunkInMyTrunk, I can’t remember if I already mentioned this or not, but one thing I have noticed since going to OWL levels (which I hadn’t done in a LONG time because I was convinced that the only way to go to try to break a stall was DOWN) is that my appetite is suppressed the way that it was the very first time I tried Atkins which it had not done even on zero carb lately. I feel good. I don’t feel out of control like I thought I would from the added carbs. Pretty interesting. Maybe I really am Hypo :/

Cherry Blossom, I see that someone already responded to your thyroid question but I will add what I have learned. No, regular low carb (which 60-100 I would actually call moderate carb) does not cause problems, it’s VERY low carb or zero carb that aggravates existing problems.

Congrats to all the losers!

I am going to a Team in Training info meeting tomorrow. I am VERY tentatively considering running the Nike Womens Half-Marathon in October. I would have 5 months to train and lose 20 lbs...I just don't know if that would be enough time!? It's VERY helpful to know I am not the only crazy fool who longs to run over 13 miles though

I walk/run on the treadmill 30-60 min. 3-4 times a week. I like to do it on my DD's because that is what feels the best to me.

All of you people who like running and walking make me feel like a lazy bum! I absolutely HATE doing cardio. I do it because I know it's good for me, but YUCK YUCK YUCK!!!

Give me some heavy weights so I can do some power lifting. Yeah, that's more my style!

Don't know if this will motivate anyone or not but I just started ChaLean Extreme which is all about heavy lifting which I have never done before. Today I did the Burn Circuit 1 plus "Burn it Off" which is really really intense cardio.

In the distant past I was a Turbo Jam Fanatic and more recently Hip Hop Abs. I recommend all three programs. The last two are really fun cardio and I tell you they changed my body. Yes I have Abs!

I don't usually post my exercise here because I post in on another thread but I am lifting 3 days a week and trying to do cardio 2 times a week. That being said, I was losing on JUDDDD without consistent exercise.

Anyway I have been reading, but am waiting for the book it is included in so not exactly sure about the specifics, that it is best to do the heavy lifting on the days you are trying to deplete your glycogen stores so that your body will then go to fat for fuel - this would be the DD for us. I think this would apply to cardio too. Since you are supposed to do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach we should not have a problem doing it on DD's. Now if you wait until later in the day you might have an energy problem.

Hope that is helpful. I will post details when I get the book if anyone is interested.
