I do low carb and JUDDD. Tomorrow is a DD, and I'll have my usual DD breakfast--egg white "omelet" (fried in Pam) on two bran crisp crackers (84 cal. total, which I count as 130 because of my supplements--fish oil & GLA). I have a LOT of black coffee with this.

I also plan on sardines in tomato sauce (140 cals) which I mash and also have on bran crackers (24 cal). I make two of these and have them several hours apart with a cup of hot, green tea.

That's about 300 cal. and I usually have 400 for the day. I have homemade chicken broth defrosting, and I may either add 4 oz. of V-8 (50 cal) or make an egg-drop soup (60 cal.). Last week, I added a 10 oz package of spinach to my soup for only 60 cal., and it was delicious.

I used to have string cheese (60 cal) and non-fat Greek yoghurt (100 cal), but I've been avoiding dairy for a few weeks to see how it affects me.

Perhaps you're thinking that low carb must be high fat--that's when you'll run into problems with calories. But I've had to moderate my fat for a long time for medical reasons, so I have no problems with low carb on DDs with minimal fat. I save my fat for UDs. If I didn't do low carb, I think I'd get much to hungry.

Hey Leo -

Would you mind posting your egg-drop soup recipe?....Sounds like the ideal food to me right now. I think thats a great idea actually. Filling up on soups - satiety for low cals!

Aim: Look at Snaggle's post #884 on page 30 of this thread. That looks like a great recipe for DD's.

awwww, thanks guys for the birthday wishes. Welcome back Aim..it's good to have you back.

Now then, yesterday was supposed to be a DD, BUT at the last minute we ended up not having any kids for the evening and with it being my birthday coming up, my husband said it was my night. So, we went out to eat, then went dancing. OMG, I feel soooo heavy today I don't even want to look at the scale. We had a blast though. I had more of a moderate day today and then DD tommorrow...yea!! I am ready to get back on track.

Michelle...you have lost 10 pounds since i last saw you...I am VERY impressed and slighty jealous ( not in a mean way to you but in a self-disapproving way)...any words of wisdom to someone who is in awe of your determination?

Aim- My words of wisdom would be to make sure you UD's are controlled and my weight loss really accelerated when I started a true rotation. I low carb on DD's and eat pretty normal on UD's, although I don't eat gluten so that eliminates alot of carby foods anyway.

I hope that helps!

thank you... what about lc on my UD and DD...do you think it is the elevation of low to high like carb cycling? I am afraid I cannot have high carbs...I have medical issues and that is what led to my demise before. I took meds to help my problem and fear I can only do low carb on UD and DD...My fibromyalgia was so bad when I was JUDDing the first time from trying to eat Low fat stuff with sugars and starches to keep my cals low....then I got to where I was in alot of pain...took meds and then the systemic problems came on...OMG I was in hell...so I am scared of failing.
I am going to do LC shakes..whey ones...starve I guess on DD and then...LC on UDs...

Aim- I do sometimes end up with a low carb day on UD's, I think because I have low carbed for years and alot of the recipes and foods stick with me.

Alot of the JUDDDERS do low carb and have great success.

On DD's I usually have an egg cream shake for dinner and that's it.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Sunday. I'm pooped! We just got home from having my son's birthday party, he'll be 5 on Wednesday. We just had close family... but that's still almost 20 people.

Yesterday's UD was pretty out of control. I know I had too many calories. Today's MD would have been a good UD, but not so good MD. My goal for this week is going to be to have better controlled UD's and to lose this last vacation pound!

Michelle: Happy Birthday! That's so nice that you were able to have a good evening alone with your husband. You deserve to be able to go off your diet for your birthday after all your hard work

Aim: I think the part of the beauty of JUDDD is that you are able to combine it with other WOE. If LC makes you feel better, then stick to it! Probably on DD it's best to look for Low fat and low carb options. Some of the following are what I use: egg whites, veggies, turkey burgers, low fat hot dogs, carb master yogurt, and low fat vinagerette on a salad. I usually have just a half a scoop of Nectar protein drink (45 cal) after my workout and then save the rest of my calories for dinner time.

Leo: I'd love to have your egg drop soup recipe too!

Gina: That's awesome that you've been seeing body changes despite not seeing a drop in weight. I know when my schedule gets messed up it's always hard to stick to a diet. Hopefully life will settle down a bit and that will help you to stick with it better! I would like to encourage you with this. About 2.5 years after I had my first son I got down to around 185 and I was so frustrated because I couldn't seem to lose any more weight. I was dieting and I was working out at least 5 days a week. It irritated me so much! But, I realized that my clothes kept getting looser and people kept asking me how I was losing so much weight.... to which I always responded that I wasn't losing any weight! I was stuck there for several months but I know I lost at least an entire size despite the scale not changing at all. I finally realized that the number is fairly arbitrary. So, who cares if I weigh 180 but have a nice lean toned body?! Yeah, it's still overweight on the weight charts but I didn't look overweight.

well, all - heading into a DD tomorrow. Here's my menu plan, since someone asked us to post what we usually eat:

breakfast - water with lime

lunch - lettuce and etc. salad with vinegar, salt and pepper. about 50 calories

dinner - salad with 2 oz broiled chicken or 1/4 c cooked beans, 1/2 c steamed rice and calorie free dressing, about 350 calories

I'll probably do some wiifit to help add some activity and burn a few calories, which should take my net calories to range.

really quickly found this very interesting note in a JUDDD livejournal, by a book reviewer who wrote to Dr. J to clarify some stuff. I thought it would be helpful for those of us who are losing slowly and would like to kick start a little more:

Quote:
My queries:

I *am* curious about to the two contradictions I
observed in the book, namely:

1. Does SIRT1 kick in at 2 or 3 weeks?

2. Would a period of 36 hours (as opposed to 24) of down or up be ideal?

Dr. Johnson's response:

( Cut for length )

To clarify and summarize the first point, SIRT1 engages after a day, but apparently the more noticeable benefits (such as, in my case, more rapid fingernail growth, increased mental capacity, improved physical fitness, etc) kick in after 3 weeks.

In regards to the optimal fasting period, it does appear to be 36 hours. Now it turns out that in my own practice, I had been fasting in periods averaging 32 hours, which was not too shabby. Practically, this meant that I would consume calories until around 2 am on my up days, and I would start my new up day around 9 am or so. However, since hearing back from Dr. Johnson in late April, I have been doing strict 36-hour down days.
Okay, so for me, trying to be realistic that means something like this:

UD allowed to eat until 8:30pm, start DD hours (count 12hours toward DD)
DD - 8:30 am - 8:30 pm count 24hours
UD - allowed to start eating at 8:30 am (count 12hours toward DD) until 8:30pm

So basically, this sounds like an 'extended' Fast Five from Dr. J. Do get optimal skinny gene activation, all I've really got to do is set an 'eating time' to start and stop on UDs and the DD hours will take care of themselves.

Knowing me, because I LURVE to eat on my UDs and usually eat the very minute I get out of bed, this will mean, alas and alack, that I'll need to set my start and stop earlier. Iget up around 6am, so I'll need to set my UD Stop to around 6pm for most days. *sighs* I guess I can do that.

I can at least give it a 3 week whirl and see what's up...

Naomi

I don't have an egg-drop soup 'recipe.' I just play around.

I don't like to use canned broth because of the sodium, so I usually boil a chicken carcass (along with celery and onion for flavor) and freeze the broth in 2 cup containers. But you can use any broth you have.

I use Eggbeaters myself, but whole egg is probably better. First, beat the egg as though you're making scrambled eggs. One egg should be enough for 2 cups of broth. Then bring the broth to a boil and then to simmer; as it simmers, "dribble" in the egg slowly, stirring constantly. The hot broth will cook the egg, and you should get 'strings' of egg from dribbling it in slowly and stirring.

Sometimes I'll add in a handful of chopped spinach, but usually I just have the broth and egg. Two cups with my Eggbeaters comes to about 70 cal. and is VERY filling.

Aim-

You probably got yourself in trouble by eating "low fat" junk with fillers. While I keep to fairly low fat on DDs, I try to use only whole foods.

Are you losing doing the Fast 5? I've considered doing this because, frankly, as much as I do love JUDDD, I do like to eat everyday .

Michelle - Happy Belated Birthday!

I had a good weekend, UD on Saturday, DD yesterday. Not going near the metal monster until Friday and hope to see a loss as I haven't weighed in a over a week. If not, I'll drag out the tape measure and see if there's any losses there.

I've drifted back to eating carbs on my UDs. We have a little short family trip coming up in a few weeks and it is much easier to eat carbs than not on this particular outing. My plan is to get back to lowcarbing afterwards with any carby things being had on the weekends. I am slowly learning that my body seems to do better with constant changes so hopefully with changing up things regularly I'll see some better progress.

Ah, the neverending battle rages on!

Have a good day, everyone!

Also, although I posted that I'd let my UDs get too high for a couple of weeks (and slowed loss thereby), the one constant for me has been strict control of DDs (400 cal)--even though I only do 3 a week--M, W, F. That seems to be the key to JUDDD.

I also agree with you that if I didn't see any loss on JUDDD, I'd give it up; it's just too hard to do without the reward of regular loss. But in my experience, if I do it right, it gives me that reward (however small) on a weekly basis. For someone (like me) who needs strict calorie restriction, this seems to be the ideal plan.

I'm struggling too.
