I usually avoid buying soup because of the sodium, but I made a soup for DD that I thought I'd share.
I had roasted a chicken last week, so I boiled the carcass to get broth, and that made about 14 cups! I froze it in 2 cup portions to use on DDs. This week, to the two cups of broth, I added 4 oz. of low sodium V8 vegetable juice (25 cal) and doused it with some hot sauce. I found it a real appetite killer for very low calories. Next week, I might make egg drop instead. I also plan to puree some spinach or broccoli another time. |

Hi Gina, Shell! Thanks for the welcome.
Gina, I know that LC is the way forward, its just not enough for me does that make sense? I've read about carb/cal cycling, and this has a similar concept, in that your body is kept guess, thus stopping it from effective. Shell, I love my egg creams too. I hadn't had one in months till late yesterday. Before and after surgery I was suffering with extreme nausea, so avoided the things I liked in order not to be put off them. I see you are combining five-fast too - do you do that on UD and DD's? I'm so looking forward to this, I can't even tell you! Please God let me drop some weight! (and get us this mortgage LoL!!) G x

Morning...
I screwed up a DD this week and it sent me into a tailspin. Something about this WOE definitely brings out a binge mentality for me and I don't know that I want to continue. I LOVE it in theory and I actually found DD's OK.. but the UD's afterwards killed me. And after two weeks I've lost no weight. I've been doing more reading on The Warrior Diet and Fast 5, and I'm tempted to see if that would be easier.. because instead of "waiting til tomorrow", I would know that I only needed to wait until later in the day. I stick to a pretty carb conscious plan anyway.. but maybe that would help. I do a lot of exercise too (I'm doing a two hour run today) and I don't know if that is part of the problem as well. I'll keep checking in here though... I'm wondering if I could do a less extreme version... maybe flip flop between 1000 calorie days and 1800 calorie days. Does anyone here do more that 500 calories on their DDs? I also took my ****** menu down.. since if I go about 500 calories.. it's not a true DD. |

I don't think JUDDD is for everyone, and if you're finding that it's inciting a binge mentality, then I'd say it's not for you. Why did you want to do it? I ask because I came to JUDDD because I need to severely restrict calories in order to lose, and I couldn't handle <1000 cal daily, but I can average that with JUDDD over two days without too much difficulty. If you can lose on standard low carb, that might be best for you. For example, there's no point in doing JUDDD at 1000 cal DD and 1800 UD because I don't think the DD# is enough to activate the SIRT1 that's supposed to be so helpfu. But why not do a straight 1400 cal daily low carb eating plan? I hope you don't think I'm trying to tell you what to do; I'm trying to help you find the plan that will fit your needs. |

I greatly appreciate the feedback. I have played with calorie cycling in the past and although it might not activate the SIRT1.. I found it felt like less deprivation if I could go higher one day and lower the next, versus keeping it steady all the time. The steadiness felt like deprivation all the time.. where the other way felt like it was so indulgent to go up to 1800 after a 1000 calorie day. Truly... the reason I stopped doing that was that it was tiresome using ****** every day. I kinda thought that if I did the true UDDDD then I wouldn't have to count my calories on the up days.. but I'm not sure that is the case so I might as well eat a few more calories on my DD which might help with the feeling like I want to binge. I won't give up yet!!! It has been nice eating carbs and going out to events and not gaining weight.

Pat-
The beauty of JUDDD is that you can eat ANYTHING on your DDs/UDs so long as you control your calories. Dr. J recommends shakes on DDs during the first two weeks because keeping the calorie count to 500 is important, and he believes that most people overestimate their calories with real food. But several people on this board have used real food, too, since we're experienced at calorie counting. I did a combination, but I used whey protein shakes in order to control both calories and carbs. Many of us find that low carb helps us to control appetite, especially on DDs. I don't know much about Slim Fast shakes, but I know that most low carbers don't like them because they contain sugar and tend to stimulate appetite. We've also found that having a fixed menu for DDs helps because thinking about food makes one hungry. I've found that the key to JUDDD is advance planning on both DDs and UDs to insure staying within calorie limits. Many people eat only once a day on DDs, but I find that I have to spread my calories over at least three meals. Everyone has to find what works for him/her. Good luck! |

I totally agree with you! I came to JUDDD myself because I couldn't handle my calorie limits (<1000) on a daily basis without feeling incredibly deprived. So every week or so, I'd overeat, and just gain what I'd lost. JUDDD has helped me enormously because, as you point out, after a day of very low calories, the next day feels like a feast! So I think your plan is a good one--similar to my own. After 4 months, I'm having difficulty controlling my UDs (to 1200-1400 cal), but I think that's because my body is screaming for more food in order to plump up. It doesn't want to be thinner. I'm hoping to convince it that slimming down is a good idea by being very vigilent about calories:-) |

Hi everyone!
I made it back last night from Lousiana and my husbands mom and grandma came to visit too. It's been crazy. They decided to come and stay with us because my husband was asked to preach at church and they wanted to be here. Anyhow, the trip was lots of fun and we were able to visit lots of family. The diet didn't go so well. I was only able to pull of 2 moderate days while there (850-900 calories). Yesterday on our trip home I had a DD and didn't go too much over (560 calories). I'm trying to make today a moderate day because tomorrow will have to be an UD as I'm going to a picnic with a bunch of college friends. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back on track this week and lose the 4 pounds that I was up today! I hope everyone is doing good! Welcome to all of the newbies :-) I hope you find success with this WOE. |

Trishagrrl-
Welcome back--and congratulations on being able to manage moderate days while on vacation in Louisiana (the home of good eating!). And a DD on the way back. You are very dedicated; a lot of people would have just resigned themselves to non-JUDDD eating until return. Those extra pounds should vanish quickly once you get back in the JUDDD routine; that's been the experience of most of us after vacation. JUDDD seems much more forgiving than Atkins in this regard. |

Thanks for the welcome's
Our offer on the house was accepted but now we need to get a few things inspected and estimates done. Since it's such an old house if certain things are not up to par, we'll have to dump a ton of money into it. Hopefully we can get moving on that this week! Quote:

hi everyone, I'm sorry it's been awhile since I've checked in. I've had some crazy UD's and too many of them at that! So, I've only had two DD's in the past week but I'm at 129.6 this morning...only a little over a pound up from where I was so I"m ok with that. Today is an UD and we're going to a cookout. I really, really LOVE JUDDD and if I never get to 120, just knowing that I can maintain and be so much more in control with this woe is so worth sticking to it. However, I see no reason why I will not reach my goal with some steady true alternating.
GlamourP! I don't think I welcomed you so welcome! This has given me so much more success than I was having on ATkins induction. After being on it induction for 4 months I was not losing at all...just going up and down, but after switching to JUDDD and FAst 5, I started dropping and have been able to maintain it easily. Love it!

I had a successful DD yesterday (I even made beerocks for my family) and I'm down .4 today. Not a ton, but I take all losses! Could be actually a few ounces more. I think today's jammies are a little heavier than the ones I weighed in last
(I weigh on the Wii in the living room. Can't be naked).I've been drinking kombucha on my DDs. A friend at work brought me one Wednesday and I was down 2 lbs the next day. I didn't have one on Friday and I held steady. I drank one yesterday and I'm down again. Hmmmm. Coincidence? Who knows, but I have two more for my next two DDs. It is a strange beverage. Tastes like vinegar, but I like it for some reason. UD today and I think I'll have some toast with breakfast and have my CO in my coffee, other than that I have no plan. I won't talk about it anymore out of respect for those of you on DDs. ![]() Have a great day everyone!

I'm 67, post menopause AND hypothyroid. I thought I could lose at about 1200 calories (low carb), but I just gained. When I dropped below 1000, I could lose slowly. I mentioned that to my endo, hoping he'd tell me that there was some magic pill that would enable me to eat more, but he simply agreed with me! He said that I happen to have an extremely low metabolism, and there's nothing I can do except for exercise. He also said that he has patients who need to take in no more than 750 cal a day to lose! Even with exercise (I have severe arthritis, so I swim laps and do water exercises to strengthen my legs), I have to stay below 1000 cal a day to lose. When I let my UDs go too high recently, I stopped losing and began to gain, so I know that my calorie restriction is necessary--sigh! That's why I came to JUDDD; it makes serious calorie restriction possible. |

Leo, do you run a low body temp? If so, you might really be interested in the new protocol I'm on. I feel TONS better. Was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 6 years ago and haven't felt this good since. I'll pm you with it if you're interested.

Yes, I run a low body temperature--that's how I was initially diagnosed as hypo when my primary wouldn't believe me. I'd be interested in what you're doing because I don't feel so great and was planning to ask my endo for some additional testing next month. |

Hey Leisa!
Long time since we last bumped in to each other on these thread!! You are doing awesome hun! Welldone. I really hope I can mimic all the success you all have been having. I really need something to get me going. in July I will be doing one round of the HCG protocol. But reverting straight back to this WOE. Tomorrow is a DD - so I'll be having egg creams galore. They fill me up and keep me from getting crazy grumpy with hunger. Wish me luck all - I'm so excited! Am hoping for at least 3lbs this wk! Have a good week all! They're sort of like German calzones. The filling is either shredded or ground beef and cabbage. Then you put it in bread dough and bake them.
The filling is actually very LC friendly. Yesterday I had some of the cabbage and I saved some of the filling with the beef for today. I cheat a little when I make them. I don't make the bread from scratch, I use those frozen rolls that you have to thaw and let rise. They are the perfect size- one for the top and one for the bottom. |

How exactly do you make an "egg cream"? I keep hearing about them on this board... but am not exactly sure what the "magic formula" is.... please do tell!
Leo- I can't believe you have to stay that low.. although when I initially lost my weight two years ago doing strict low carb/low cal... I started gaining if I went above 1000. I think I screwed up my metabolism by staying under 1000 consistently day after day. That's why I love the idea of JUDDD. The thought of not having to be so crazy low day after day. Thought that would be better for both my metabolism AND my sanity!!! For the people who are combining it with Fast 5... what is the benefit of mixing them together? Why not one or the other by themselves? |

Good evening!
We had a great cookout with friends today, and it was deffinitely an UD! I held steady on the scale today after yesterdays MD. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the rest of this week. I really want to get rid of this 4 pound weight gain, but also the MWF rotation works the best with my schedule. I was thinking about doing T,TH, Sat this week and then back to MWF next week. BUT, I forgot that we have dinner at a friends house Saturday and I don't think it would be very easy to stick with 500 cal that day. SO... I'm thinking make tomorrow a MD, and get back to my rotation on Wednesday. Any other ideas? I'm totally open to suggestions! |

Andi-Pandi-
Having <1000 calories a day is not too much of a problem with JUDDD. Oddly, I've never had difficulty with 400 cal DDs, and after that, eating 1200-1400 on an UD feels like a feast! Whereas, on regular low carb every day, I got very, very frustrated trying to stay under 1000 cal daily. Think about it--if you can manage just 400-500 cal on DD, then any increase on an UD would be satisfying. I don't think this is harming my metabolism because that's pretty much as low as it can get according to my endo. Apparently, I'm eating FOR a slow metabolism rather than slowing it by eating too little. I get checked regularly, blood tests and all, so if there's any physical problem, I'd find out soon enough. Yes, it's tough, and my advice to all women would be to lose whatever weight you need to lose BEFORE menopause because afterwards every pound is a struggle:-) |

Let me say first off tho PLEASE do not be put off by raw eggs in the egg creams. You can't even tell that they are there. When I initially started to drink them I thought they'd be eggy and slimy - but honestly - nothing could be further from the truth. The latest one I've started having is a egg cream basic mix with diet soda - its sooo good! HTH. Off to my may breakfast EC. G x |
