I guess I"m not ready for the total fast yet! I made it till 4:00 and then my tummy was growling and I was so darn hungry I decided to eat. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the most bang for the rest of the calories I have left! lol

I had a wonderful down day omlette supper. Waited until 5 PM.

Sprayed frying pan with PAM

1/2 bag baby herb salad mix sauteed in 2 tbs water and 2 tbs chopped onion. 25 calories.

6 pieces thinly sliced deli ham - 45 calories

2 eggs - 140 calories

1/4 cup egg beaters - 30 calories

when cooked topped 1/2 cup fresh broccoli sprouts - 12 calories (?)

1 wedge melted Laughing Cow Swiss cheese on the top (didn't melt exactly, consistency of sour cream and very delicious).

Total: around 280 calories

vitamins ...25 calories
orange flavored Citricel ... 25 calories

Todays Total Calories: About 330

I'll be working tonight - just bringing a thermos of coffee

My goal for tomorrow is to plan, use self-control and calculate calories. Wish me success - this is where I usually fail!

Awww! Thanks Hon. Yes you're totally right about the type of thinking involved. I *know* what to do theoretically. Just gotta' put it into practice now! I'll be posting UDs here for accountability. I did better when I was doing that.

Kisha - that is such a great idea to post UD's. That might help me as well. I am going to think about doing that. I am planning on a very healthy, lowish carb UD tommorrow. Last Saturday was just embarrassing, lol.

I am by no means an expert on this subject. All the information I have, has come from this board. I would still be feeling miserable and depressed had it not been for Pam's advice on the thyroid portion of LCF. I wouldn't have my great doctor had it not been for the advice from Pam. I have thanked he many times for the information and help.

Both Pam and Ilene always say that thyroid peeps need a little more carbs. I took them up on their advice and when I started going over induction level carbs, I felt a lot better. But way too many carbs, make me sleepy also.

Probably people who don't have any medical issues can follow almost any diet and lose weight. Lucky them!!!!

Has anyone been able to accomplish a total fast?

I'm on my third DD and I am hungry and crabby.
I, too, find myself overeating on UDs because I know the next day is DD. I have to find something that is lower calories that I can start to eat on my DDs, but that is still tasty and filling. I made a "sort of" fish soup today to try and get something filling and with some lower calorie protein in it, but it isn't very good.

I'll eat it though because about right now I'd chew my hand off if I didn't need it to type.

I think that my DDs are getting harder instead of easier, like others have claimed. Am I weird or just crabby and hungry?

Do you have an egg cream with HWC? How many calories in your egg cream?Do you have any problems with hunger the rest of the night?

Maybe I should try that. I can make it pretty long with this empty stomach feeling if I could only find something that would make me feel better when I ate it.

I think you are on to something about the "getting creative". I've been trying to get creative with my DD meals and yet I still can't find something that makes it better or more satisfying. I won't blow it by eating, but I'm searching for a better way to do this.

I hope the book has some advice. I ordered mine Monday (I think), but it still isn't here.

Hi everyone! I'm back from my vacation and have had a big week with eating. I had an UD on TUesday when we left and then had a decent DD Wednesday...waited to eat until we ate out...had a cheeseburger and fries, then had an UD Thursday with WAY too much food! ugh...I felt horrible. Now today, we had a 3 hour drive home and when we got home, I realized my ankles, feet and calves are swollen! My fingers are feeling it now. It must be the food, but I've never had my feet swell like this except for when I was 8 months pregnant. Today was supposed to be a DD, but it didn't turn out that way. Tomorrow will be a successful DD for sure...reading through the posts, I realized I have also been wondering about having a full day of fasting and I'm thinking of doing that tomorrow. If not, I will only have an egg cream for dinner and let that be it. I need to get this water off my feet...anyone have this happen when just starting JUDDDing?

My egg cream has around 340 calories and 6 or so carbs.

2 eggs
2 tablespoons 1/2 & 1/2
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 oz. cream cheese
A dollap of reddi-whip whipped cream
ice cubes - blend in blender till creamy

Another variation is I skip the cocoa and water and add cold coffee. It's awesome but I can only do that on weekends because coffee keeps me up at night. It is very filling for me.

Sometimes if it's too thick I add some water. Once in a while I will add some fruit if I'm in the mood. My whole family loves it and my kids beg me to make it all the time.

I just wanted to check in here. I am done eating for the day. My third DD over and done with. I can't get under 500 and I am not sure I even want to. I ended the day with 630 calories today. Lots of fruit today but we have lots of good fruit in the house.

I took the suggestion to make a pot of hot tea and that's been very helpful for both my DD. It's almost soothing that tea and I never take the time to do that on regular days so it's kind of nice for me.

I'm looking forward to my UD tomorrow and depending on how that goes it'll be either and UD or a MD on Sunday. But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

What I like best about UD is I can cook for DH and me. Or we can go out for dinner.
I am trying to frame my UD around whole heathy foods prepared in good ways. I'm not always successful with this but at least sometimes I am. And at least I want to try. For a good long while there I didn't want to try. I'm glad that's changed.

Goood evening!

Well another DD under my belt. I'll be interested to see what the scale says tomorrow. I finished the day with 520 calories. I was going to be done with 370, but then DH and I took our son to McD's playland... well I have to admit I was hungry and my resolve was low at that time and I caved and had a little treat. At least I didn't go much over 500.

Does anyone know... Is there any weight loss and/or nutritional advantage to spreading your calories out throughout the day versus having them all at the end of the day?

I think the easier and least amount of thought into DD meals the better for me! The more I stand around the kitchen and look the more I want to eat!

Just accounting for my day. I ate a lot of vegetables today. Breakfast was beef and vegie stirfry, Lunch was a chef salad, and dinner was Mongolian with only oil for the sauce. I had some Lindt 85% chocolate. The only real sugary thing I had was 1 Cup of icecream from our local dairy. I took the two youngest for a cone after school and some together time. It was fun...no regrets.

I don't feel too bad tonight.

So today was my DD. Went pretty well although I woke up this morning and weighed in at 205, I was at 202 the day before! I have no idea what happened. My caloric intake for Thursday was right at 2300 which is right at my recommended UD count. I am not quiting or anything I just think it's strange. Based on my weight tonight I will likely still be at 205 when I get up tomorrow. UGHHH

Saturday morning weigh in

This is my day to weigh and record, and I'm down just a pound for the week. I'm a little disappointed (was hoping to move down to a new decade, but I'm right at the edge). However, I need to put this into perspective. I've been eating carelessly on my UDs recently, AND a pound is fine--at least the scale is going down and not up.

My resolve is to pay more attention to my UD calories and stop the "calorie creep" that I've noticed lately.

I buy Laughing Cow Cheese at the deli section of the grocery store I go to. It comes in a round container with a cow on it; and has triangular shaped wedges of low fat cheese. That omlette is really delicious. It's almost too much for one person to eat. That's why I like to save my calories on DD's for the evening - then I'm not very hungry at night.

That's a great goal for UD's. My goal this UD is no sweets, but I will have some really good bread and strawberry preserves from the health food store where I live. They have specialty breads baked fresh. Sounds like you're giving this your best shot, onexone. Enjoy the journey!

Checking in for the day...it is a DD for me. I have been alternating DDs and UDs with no MDs anymore. It is working good. If I have a MD, it feels like I am drawing out my weightloss too much because I have to undo damage from an UD and MD right together.

Today I will be waiting until noon to eat. I'm going to eat some cabbage and bacon. For dinner I will have berries and cream. My family will be home and I will be cooking meals for them. I hope it doesn't make it harder.

Happy Happy Saturday!

Boy am I having a good morning after I stepped on the scale today! I think it's too good to be true, and it's certain not to last. But, I'll take my losses as I can and just pray that they don't come back. So after my 3 DD this week.... 214.0 on the money. That's a 6 pound loss . I'm convinced this is worth sticking to for a while

Redeemed- I'll have to look for that cheese! And the fresh bread and strawberry preserves.... woah! That has me hungry now :-)

First JUDDD Weekend

Good morning!

It's an UD for me today. I woke up and did 30 min on the Wii Fit and I just enjoyed my breakfast and look forward to lunch AND dinner. Wow. I'm not sure what we're having today but I know I am cooking, and looking forward to it.

The scale showed a loss this morning from the last DD so things are happening. I weighed in on a Sunday last week but I don't think it's wise to weigh after an UD so I guess my official weighin day will be today, Saturday.
And Officially then I have lost 6lbs.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Well, I did not reach my goal this week. I am .4 heavier than last my low that I hit last Saturday. I can live with that considering the circumstances. I am on antibiotics for the tooth, no exercise at all this week, and the UD and MD last weekend was waaaay out of control.

Soooo, I have my whole weekend planned and it's going to be on target and lower carb. I would like to hit 121 by next Saturday. That is my goal.

Congrats to those who have lost!! WOOOHOO!!!!

I woke up this morning and am down another pound since Thursday. My DD yesterday was hard but I made it. I know I retain water like crazy so, I am not gonna get too stoked but....... I am just so happy the scale is finally moving!!!!

Clothes are really getting loser and I get to change my stats again!!!!!

Yesterday all i had was:

2 scan. crisps w/sf low cal strawberry preserves
4 celery stalks w/ 1 laughing cow cheese
Big salad w/cucumber and 1/2 cup grilled chopped chick
Coffee, water, and diet coke.

All my calories equaled 410 - but I went ahead and stopped just in case I missed something!

Today is an UD so....not sure what to eat. Haven't had anything yet and its almost 11. Gonna take it slow. It is just too easy to overdo it on these days.

Have a great Saturday!!!

Progress!

Good morning Juddders, Up day for me today, the scale was down and I am in Onederland. 199.5 ya!
I know many of you are lowcarbing and I am glad you can. I low carbed for years and lost a lot of weight. I got down to my lowest of 170 pounds about 1 year ago. I ate below 20 grams of carb that I my thyroid is not functioning like it should. I also got tired of the bingeing that would happen when I ate a few carbs while low carbing (like for a planned party or holiday).

Last summer I quickly gained 25 pounds in 1 1/2 months eating regular foods and got very depressed. I've tried to low carb again but did not lose anything.
I found JUDDD and at first I lurked awhile then started the diet March 23, 2009 at 206. I am below 200 pounds as of this morning Juddding and eating regular foods. I did have a week setback when I went out of town to attend a conference.

Overall I'll take 6 pounds over 0 pounds any day. I'm happy to know I can eat regular foods and still lose, it may be slow but I am losing.

I love this verse!
1 Cor. 6:12
"Everything is permissible for me" - but not everything is beneficial.
"Everything is permissible for me" - but I will not be mastered by anything.

Trish, the idea of saving all the calories for one meal is based upon the fast five diet, which many of us tweakers incorporate into our tweaked plan. The fast five diet basically just says you can eat what you want, but you only get a 5 hr. window to eat a day. The rest of the day/night is fasting.
It is based upon the same principles as JUDDD, in terms of stimulating SIRT1 and the benefits of intermittant fasting.
I use it for my down days and also my saturdays which are a medium day. I will save all
my calories today for the evening, so I can enjoy everything.

Janice, I think I have done the same thing as you. I went back to Atkins induction (72) in December, ended up losing about 5 pounds and then yo-yo'd until I found JUDDD and Fast 5. I started Fast 5 first and then began reading about JUDDD and got interested in that. I've been trying to combine the two and it's going really well. I, like you, decided to just eat regular food and try to give my thyroid a break. I feel better eating this way except for when I overdo it. I just came home from a 4 day vacation and I'm up 6 pounds! ugh! I mentioned on the IF thread this morning that I was thinking of doing just Fast 5 instead of a combination, but I'm really afraid to do that. I'm afraid my calories will be too high, so I think instead, I will just try to take it one day at a time and see how things go. If there is one thing I've learned from this, it's that I can thrive on way less calories than I would have ever thought and that includes running 4 miles several times a week! I have more energy when I eat like this also which is awesome!

Good for you for getting into Onederland! that's great! I'm just wanting to get into the 120's and it's been SO hard, but I was as close as I've been in years before my vacation, so hopefully I'll be back there soon.

Kisha, I really like your idea of posting up day foods. I know we all report our down days, but to me, the ups are just as key, if not more. I was already going to ask folks to start listing up day menus. I also like the accountability concept. I have upped my ups this week to make them more in line w/ Dr. J's numbers. I had been scared to go over 1500 cal, but was feeling like my metabolism was slowing (cold all the time) and really want this WOE to work for the long haul, so I am now going for 2000 cal up days.
Too early to tell if it helps, but yesterday I ate a lot. Little portions of EVERYTHING.
B--1 egg, cheese, 1/4 cup grits, butter, coffee
L-- Taco time small beef taco salad w/ 8 chips
D # 1 (went to two parties, and ate at both!! lol)
thai beef and veggies, 1 glass white wine
D#2- curried chicken breast, stewed garbanzos, yogurt sauce, salad, 1/2 pc. strawberry rhubarb pie w/ whip and 1 choc. chip cookie. 1.5 glass red wine. (book club dinner)
In my estimation, it was around 2200 cal. WOWZA. But it was all so good.
up 2 lb this morning, but today is a fast five medium day and tomorrow down, so we shall see.

Okay everybody,.................................do share your up day extravaganzas!
