Good morning everyone! Just checking in to say hello and hang in there if anyone is doing a DD today like me.
I think I will go as long as I can without eating but I have a small 100 calorie bag of popcorn just in case. I plan to eat it around 1 or 2 for my lunch.
Later!

Hello Ladies,

Hope everyone is having a great day today.

I have a quick IF question... I have been fasting from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. the following day. However, I like cream in my coffee and I have been putting about 2 tablespoons in my coffee each day during my fasting hours.

Do you think that interferes with my fasting? In your experience, is coffee OK for fasting hours or should I just drink water or green tea?

ELiza

Kisha, I'm really curious about your progress since you started AWFs. Have you noticed better (faster ) results? Sorry if you've already addressed this earlier. I'm wondering if I really should just commit to 3 WFs a week instead of continuing this struggle with lo cal DDs. At least for a couple of weeks....
I had one month where I lost twelve pounds and that was doing AWF three times a week. BUT for the last two weeks I haven't really shown a loss and that is also doing AWF. SOOOO I don't know WHAT the difference is really. Its all so mysterious. I don't know that doing the AWF speeds up weight loss... I suspect it may make it harder for me to keep my UD calories in line.

I'm DDing today too JGW - trying to pull off a fast.

Welcome Eliza! back at ya.

I do coffee every morning regardless of what else is going on ( a DD, UD, and even when I did IF last year.) . Just not willing to break that habit. I now drink mostly black, but that's only been a couple of weeks.

LOL...
AWF = Almost Water Fast
Its a term coined here on the Tweaker thread.
Its basically a liquid fast but for me its usually just coffee with whole milk or coffee with 1/2 and 1/2

Welcome Eliza Jazz. I just switched to fast 5 after 5 months on Juddd as my blood sugars started to get unstable with Juddd. I do a 5pm-9pm window but so far have only been having one meal between 5-6 and stopping there. I do have coffee with 1 T of cream in the a.m. - it's never bothered me and I did give it up for a month just for a trial but it made no difference so I happily brought it back! I do very low carb as well.

Hi to all the tweakers, and thanks for all the support everybody. Retro I sent you a pm - didn't want to bore everybody with my Dr's ideas. Bottom line a few weeks off Juddd should identify if that is the problem but my levels are starting to stabilize so I'm afraid my Juddding days are over.

So I'm off on a new adventure in eating. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi, I have some catching up to do on posts but just wanted to say I did a down day on Sat successfully, Up Day Sun of course, and today I guess is a moderate day, though that was not my intention. At 900 cals so far, will probably have another 300 in the form of a smoothie for dinner. Tomorrow I will do a DD and weds will be UD because that is my warrior day (two one hour work out sessions).

Ha ha--slim, AWF is a very special Tweak. And I will be glad to share it with you.

When we were still part of the original JUDDD site in January, Caramel came at us with news of her wonderful success with a Water Fast every Monday. When we became Tweakers, I thought Caramel's idea sounded great and wanted to try it, but could only manage something close to a water fast--lots to drink--juice or tea, V-8, coffee with HFWC, all low calorie of course, so I called it an Almost Water Fast or AWF. Since then several of us have used it when we wanted to cut back but couldnt manage a pure Water Fast.

Kisha has turned the AWF into an art form!

About using IF or Fast Five--I have used it very successfully in the past--as well as JUDDD, of course, and think/hope that shunssweets will have good luck with it. For some reason, it works fine for me to keep my BG level despite my Insulin Resistance although you'd think fasting for 19 hours would screw up your pancreatic metabolism. SS has a much more serious problem with her BG than I do, but if she spreads her food out over 4-5 hours like I do, or even 6 hours like some do, I bet she will maintain her weight and feel better too--and NOT crave. I do my Fast Five with Very Low Carb--never have breakfast and dont miss it and am happy to have my regular "eating day" start around 1 PM AFTER starting the day with a nice big cup of coffee with 1/2 or HFWC.

(I gave up caffeinated coffee for about 3 weeks and it didnt make a bit of difference so I am now back at it.)

And as soon as I finish working for this woman--in about two weeks--I am going to go get drunk and pray that I never have to see a silk flower again!

Kisha, I think you are on to something here. Seems like I have read others say that cutting too far back on DD too many times per week--like with a WF or AWF on the DD--causes them to have a hard time poutting the brakes on on an UpDay. Have you thought about trying a AWF or WF just one regular day per week like Caramel has had such success with?

Very bummed out. So for now I'm going to try 2 more weeks of fast 5 and try to control cals and do VLC. If I keep gaining I'll reevaluate after 2 weeks.

Can I still hang out here with you tweakers? Any advice from experienced fast 5ers?

Sorry for the downer post.
SS, I'd be DOWN, too! But be patient and see if you can get the BG to calm down after the FF trial. And if you leave, I will hunt you down and pour funnel cake down your throat!

I rarely ate breakfast for most of my life and did just fine. I notice that if I don't eat breakfast and have a small lunch my energy levels go up and I feel clear-headed.

Eliza, you will find lots of warm hearts here and also several of us who are now using FF or who have done it and who need to be careful with BG for various reasons, so hang out here and enjoy the fun--and the creative ideas everyone has! I myself love FF and am making use of it while I have this temporary job from hell. And may keep it up after this is over the end of the month,

Yeah its an option I'm considering for sure. I have really been liking my three a week though... they are so easy for me now. I'm considering it though for sure.

Thanks Shunsweets, I am glad you have had success with the cream. I will keep using it.

Sorry to hear your blood sugars are unstable . If you don't mind me asking ..... Are you hypo- or hyper-glycemic? Has the doctor found a way to help you? I myself am slightly hypoglycemic so I made it a point to do some research. You probably know already that prickly pear cactus, cinnamon, fiber (35 to 50 grams/day), salacia (ayurvedic herb), and exercise help stabilize blood sugar levels. I am doing IF partly to help normalize my sugars. Also the advice is to check one's thyroid, because apparently thyroid and pancreas affect each other's function.

Doctors nowadays try to get people in and out in 8 minutes or less, like an assembly line, so they don't always take the time to listen and think about their patients' problems.

Hope you find exactly what you need to solve your blood sugar problem. Please keep me posted.

Well, my fast - turned DD - is now out the window. I want to eat and drink a LOT.

my very good friend had a double mastectomy today (not sure if I mentioned it before, it's been a blur) - and the news was not good. She's looking at months of chemo and radiation. This is not what was expected. Two young children. I'm so sad she has to go through this. Please send good thoughts in her direction if you can.

Tuesday is official weigh in. Down barely a lb., which means only 4 lbs in the 4 weeks I have been doing it. AND this is with average daily calories of 1100 (one week was 998)
Usually at this level, I lose 1.5 - 2 per week.
I lost 3.5 in the Atkins induction week prior, so my total is 7.5. I think I am going to lose
the weight loss challenge I have going with my friend. She is a little ahead of me (we weigh about the same)
I am still very motivated and dedicated, but am sad that this hasn't shown to be any quicker for me. I am also working out 5/6 days per week.
The first two weeks, I only did two down days, two ups, and the rest medium/fast five.
That did not seem to make a difference either.
Maybe my SIRT1 gene has not kicked in yet??
The other explanation is that I am back at a low weight (range) that I have not tread below in over 20 years. I think my body is saying........"whoa". I can only hope that when I get down below the 160 mark, it may start going faster???

Either way, I love coming to these threads and reading of everyones successes/frustrations and mostly, wisdom. Thanks to all of you.

Snaggle, I wonder if your calories are just too low overall? Lots of tweakers here (self included) have had occasions when increasing calories actually caused a whoosh.

You may be right though that you've just reached a new low and, well, it just gets harder as you go. I had good results on Atkins for first 10 lbs or so every time I tried it, but then I slowed WAY down. I think really that happens on any diet - the loss slows.

hello everyone

Today is an UD for me and I have like 286 more calories to go and don't know where to find them. I like eating all my calories cause when I have the next DD I seem to lose better and am less hungry ,well let me go raid the fridge. Everyone have a great day.

snaggle--like wallaby said, others here have also found that sometimes lowering calories too much actually causes a stall. And yes, I agree those first few pounds come off faster than the last ones and that may be what is slowing you down...maybe a combination?

I am back now--because it fits well into my work schedule--pretty much to Fast Five combined with very low carbs. I may not lose weight fast like this, but I am not tempted to eat bad stuff when I eat mainly eggs and meat and I dont miss having brekkie. The coffee with cream does me fine until noon or 1PM...and I have no desire to over eat.

And I am NEVER tempted to snack after my supper meal. Another benefit of FF and LC--at least, for me. .

I'm completely off schedule with UD and DDs. I'm having a hard time now with this overwhelming desire to eat - ALL THE TIME. Somehow, the appetite switch got turned on and I'm gettin the ole feeling back (of wanting to stuff anything in my mouth - 24/7) I'm not eating a LOT at any one time, I'm just eating more frequently. It's still not good.

And 1 wk after my bout of Pink Eye - which took 3 days to resolve - I now have an incredibly painful ear infection. Last week I couldn't see. This week I can't hear. Will something happen to my mouth next week? (at least I would stop eating then.) Seriously, I feel like someone is cursing me out there
