Weird UD for me here. One week down. I have had good food all day and kept my carbs in the 25-35 range. But, when I weighed this morning I was up .2 lbs and that was after a CLEAN DD. I know I have issues with retaining water, I am wondering if it is just my body bloating before TOM.

I had such great results last week and I know that this has to be my hormones If not, why would I be up when my calories for DDs this week have fallen below 500?

Anyone else have this in the beginning? Or have any of you ladies noticed this right before TOM. I mean I am within 2-3 days of the beginning.

Just needed some feedback! Thanks!

I never did do LC and JUDDD. Just straight JUDDD. It's been two months, and I'm just starting to see what calorie parameters work best for me. I'm not losing as fast as you, Mike, but I'm still a looser and lovin' JUDDD.

I think Dr. Johnson said not to do two down days in a row. It's okay to have two up days though. If you do a down day, it activates SIRT1 which speeds up your metabolism if you then have an up day. Please anyone jump in - this is right, isn't it?

I come in anywhere from 50-90 on my UD. I just am not as strict as I used to be. I don't eat bread or anything grain oriented but eat more fruit etc.

I do NOT eat low carb on my UD's, but I do on my DD's. I usually have around 150-200, but today I decided to lower my carbs a bit and see if that helps speed things along. I will probably hit around 90 today.

I also do NOT eat bread or gluten for that matter.

I am not doing low carb either! Just straight JUDDD. I am a loser here too!

MikeI eat low carb on both DDs and UDs, but it is mainly for appetite control and overall health. I'm determined to avoid Diabetes2 (in my family), and my endo believes that avoiding starch and sugar is keeping me from it. But I never go too low because with hypothyroid, we should be getting at least 30g of carbs a day. That's mainly vegetables for me, along with my bran crackers. I'm extremely sensitive to carbs, so I intend to stay low carb for the rest of my life (with an occasional indulgence).

AIM
YES, Dr. J warns against consecutive DDs. It's OK to have consecutive UDs. I find that if I have to adjust for a social event, I'll turn one of those UDs into a 'medium' day and do all right.

Okie, so this thread is nearing the end but I am curious about this methodology. My weight loss has slowed to a crawl since November 08 and I have been searching for way's to get jumpstart it again without going off low carb.

I will start with a DD tomorrow and then Saturday UD with Sunday a "Medium" Day...? Beginning again on Monday, Weds, Fridays as DD. Will this work?

Okay...ladies thank you so much for answering! I was so bummed cause I am really doing well, at least it feels like it on JUDD. So, I guess I will wait until it is over and pray it all goes away. It's the waiting that I hate!

If you were me would you take a water pill or just wait????? I mean it hasn't arrived yet, but should be soon.

Msgirl - I always just wait. I always feel like I am still losing just that it is being masked by water weight. Once TOM is gone I lose the water weight plus some, IF I stick it out.

I'm not as strict LC on my up days as I would normally be- maybe around 100 carbs. I am also doing LC as much for the health benefits as weight loss.

This DD is going much better for me (I had a hard time with the last one since it was my first DD at work). I had coffee w/ a little NF milk in the morning, a light Babybel about 11:00, tomato bisque with some shrimp in it at 12:45 and I'll have some chicken tonight for dinner. That comes in at 495 cals.

I ordered the book from Amazon. I hope to learn more about the science behind why this works. I am really liking it. There is always something to look forward to each day. On the UDs there is the yummy stuff to eat. On the DDs there is the probability of a new loss. It keeps things exciting!

new to JUDD

I read the book last weekend and started this Monday with a DD. Been reading all 32 pages of this thread all week to learn more and I sure appreciate the recipes, ideas and support you all give each other. It has helped me a lot! I lost 40 lbs on Atkins in 2003, gained it back in 05 and have struggled since then. Since mid Feb I have been stuck in the mid 160s, despite clean induction level eating and training for walking a half-marathon (May 2). I tried Fast 5 and loved it, that is what led me to JUDD. I was starving the first DD (Mon) but yesterday, my 2nd DD was relatively easy and I even walked my 8.5 miles without fatigue!
I am not doing low carb on UD (I am though, on DD to help with appetite suppression. Sticking to 400 cal) but am kind of following Janice's example (thanks!) Dr. Johnson says you can eat regular and still lose weight and I am hoping that is true for my body!? So on UD, I am waiting until hungry then eating balanced, healthy foods, not to over full. I am limiting my sugar/grains some in order to avoid insulin spikes/hunger and cravings but not cutting them out all together. I'm focusing on getting lots of vegs/fruits in but without counting calories or carbs. I see a few of you are doing something similar and losing and it gives me hope. After 6 years of lowcarb I just want to eat an apple-or beans-or baby carrots! without guilt! And since low carb has only kept me at maintaining, not losing, since Feb-I am hoping this shakes things up enough to start the scale going down again. All that to say...
So, do you really think it is more about calories than carbs?
Is anyone else terrified of not counting the calories/carbs on your UD? I see a lot of you are counting!
Will it really take 3 weeks to know if this is working for my body?
thanks for listening!

Diabetes runs in my family too-both sides-so that's something I should always keep track of. I'm staying lower carb (for now at least) to try to optimize my weight loss. Later on, I may tinker around and try to raise it up.
