Brandy, on other threads you have posted about your success, losing 10 pounds in a month, inches lost since starting curves just a few weeks ago.... but it seems like you are trying to get it off so fast (and again, you know who you can place some of the blame on for that). I understand that DAILY fluctutions are frustrating, but as long as there is a downward trend, why mess with your system by going more extreme than you need to? Like Kisha said, if regular Atkins worked for me, you BET that's what I would be doing....

8 pounds in a month should not be a disappointment, in fact it is the IDEAL recommended by dieticians/doctors with varying viewpoints about WHAT we should eat... it's like the ONE thing they all agree on!

I am wondering if this is the best idea for you. I don't want to tell you what to do or come across as harsh and maybe I am overstepping a boundary here... BUT I can't help but be a little concerned about you because I think that if my metabolism were restored today, I would NOT subject my body to the strenuous, crazy things that I did to it to get it to where it is today. I would happily lose 1-2lb a week on Atkins, if my metabolism was not screwed up, knowing what I know now.

Please be cautious. I am not saying "DON'T DO THIS!" LOL and I WILL support you whatever you decide to do.... I just am concerned for you so please be careful!

Thank you Mary!! Seriously! Sometimes I just need someone else to put it in perspective for me. And you are right! I am losing, slowly, but I am losing. ANd through the corse of the day today, I have felt deprived, VERY deprived, and that is one of the things that I have always loved about the LC lifestyle, is that I dont ever feel deprived. In fact, in all honesty, I have already caved and ruined today for the 500cal. The Salmon patties in the kitchen kept calling my name.

But I do want to say, that I am VERY impressed by all of you that are able to do this!! I will be continuing to read about your journeys with JUDDDD so that in the future if I find myself at a road block, I will know where to come!

keep in mind that as someone mentioned most of us here probably have some underlying metabolic problem, so 500 calories for us will be different that 500 calories for you.

Another reason I said something is because I know you mentioned, um, someone whose name starts with K, and I really think that plan led many to an ED... as someone who struggled with an ED in the past, I KNOW the temptation to go to extremes even when it's not necessary to see a faster result, and the "high" that comes with it. I also know the dizziness, the faintness, and the long term affects of it. That's why I said something! And unfortunately once that kind of thinking gets in your head, it will ALWAYS haunt you.

But hey, you can always come back to this if you lose 50 more pounds then get stuck, you know this plan is here!!!!

AND, you can follow us here, and I will also keep you updated on my journey in our challenge thread!!!!

You are exactly right Mary! I almost wish I had paid her for her advice, that way I could sue the hell out of her! The worst part is, is at the time, I thought nothing of it, because I was never hungry, and the weight was just falling off. Looking back on it now, yep, it really screwed me up mentally. And it wasn't until I just read your post that I am realizing that it is an ED! I was so obsessed with having the weight come of fast, and I am now realizing that I still have that mentality.

Do you ever watch The Biggest Loser? If you do, you have seen Tara's journey. I realate so much to her, that all or nothing metality. I just need to find a way to break that, and allow myself to just be. To take the victories as they come, and really enjoy them, instead of wishing it had been more.

Anyway, thank you again. You have really given me some insight into myself. SOmetimes it takes an outsider to open your eyes to what you are doing to yourself.

Brandy-

Just keep in mind that they say the faster you lose, the faster it comes back!

Also, if you're losing 8 lbs a month on regular Atkins, then stick with that. I don't lose 8 lbs with JUDDD--and that's with my DDs at 400. My metabolism is so LOW that nothing else works for me.

By the way, about JUDDD as "extreme." I tried it out on my endo at my
last visit. He'd never heard of it, but he saw no problems at all. I also responded to one of Dr. Michael Eades' blogs (because my low carb woe is basically ProteinPower), and I asked him about JUDDD, explaining how low I keep my calories (lower than most of you because of my metabolism issue). He responded that he saw no problem at all so long as I got sufficient high quality protein in those few calories.

So that's two doctors who don't think that this WOE is too extreme.

I am on DD#2 today, I have had the almond breeze/instant coffee concoction again, 1 (no sugar alcohol) protein bar, and one atkins shake.... I figure I will drink the last shake in about 3-4 hours from now and be done eating for today.

I walked 2 miles today (1 and 1/3 at lunch, 1/3 in the morning, and 1/3 this afternoon), and plan on doing the cardio portion of the Power90 program when I get home.

500 calories, 32g fat, 6g carbs, 47g protein
Would like to get my carbs lower (ZC), but I will do the two week induction using the bars and shakes as suggested before going to meat for DD.

I think this is a good decision for you. Enjoy your 2LB per week weight of loss with Atkins! That is the highest number of pounds lost per week considered safe by just about every doctor on the planet. You WILL get to goal doing that.

And please hang out and keep up with us here too. Its been fun having you!

Per cup: 40 calories, 2g total carbs (1g fiber), 3g fat, 1g protein

BUT this is only for the unsweetened.... the "original" has sugar and I think 90 calories. I get the vanilla unsweetened, there is also a chocolate (45 cals) and an original unsweetened. I KNOW you love Trader Joes, that's where I get mine!!

Re: the Almond Breeze - even the unsweetened tastes sweet. The regular (got it by mistake quite awhile back) is really sweet!

Question? I was just looking around and found that cla/gla thread - is anyone here taking the combo? I was at a Vitamin World recently and the guy suggested it, said his mom was taking it along with doing Atkins and was having good results. Even though the initial posts I'm reading are old, it seems like it was really helping alot of people. I'm thinking of stopping by Walmart on the way home and checking it out.

I tried the CLA thing because of all the enthusiasm on the boards, but I didn't include GLA at that time. It did nothing for me, so I stopped after I'd finished it (about a month).

I follow an anti-inflammatory diet and have been taking fish oil for years. Recently I read a book by Floyd Chilten (biochemist) who advocates GLA along with fish oil for inflammation, and I've been doing that for about two months and can tell a difference in my aches and pains (less).

So I don't know if the CLA/GLA combo will help, but it can't hurt to try.

Thanks, Leo, I'm going for it. I stopped and bought the last two bottles Tonalin CLA and two bottles of the Borage Oil (which I'm assuming is the GLA part of the combo). I'm off to pour through those threads again.

Oh and Brandy, I would kill to lose 8 lbs. a month. Heck, I'd settle for a pound a month at the rate I'm going. Keep up the good work!

I just started taking the CLA 2 weeks ago did not add the GLA until yesterday.
I did the combo in the past and it worked great.

Hi everyone! I am off the prednisone and I am sooooo happy! I still have the stupid rash but the dermatologist thinks it may have been from the fish oil....who knows?

Today is an UD for me. However, I am thinking of keeping moderate until Monday. I am thinking I will do 1400 today, 1200 tomorrow, 1400 Sunday. I am still scared that with the steroid my body may hold on to a high calorie day. Yesterday I stayed at around 1000 calories.

You guys are so right about hunger being in the mind. Yesterday I had an egg for breakfast and some oatmeal for lunch. Then my daughters and I went out for mexican food at 3:30. I had the fajita meat and veggies. I was so worried that I would be hungry later that evening but I wasn't. One time I thought, "wow, I am really hungry" and then I stopped and felt my body and realized I was not hungry at all. This WOE has really gotten me back in touch with serving size and real hunger.

Have a good Friday!

For me it really depends on WHAT I eat, on the fat fast I am not hungry at all, but yesterday, with the Atkins shakes and protein bar (some fat but less than my normal percentage), man, my stomach was growling a couple of times during the day. Might not have though if it weren't for the exercise. Dunno.

Hi guys! Thanks so much to those that took the time to respond to my question about Judddd being extreme. I guess, when I was reading those posts that mentioned Judddd as being extreme, I was getting confused because from my perspective I see Judddd as restrictive, but not extreme. But I think I understand now what some of you are trying to say. And I can see why, if given a choice, some of you would choose Atkins over this diet. Totally makes sense. So, after thinking about all this, I just have to say, you all here are amazing! Every one!

UD Totals for Yesterday

Ok, first of all I think I've GOT to stop keeping dark chocolate in the house! I went over 2000 calories on UD AGAIN yesterday... but not as much over as I have in the past... and I'm happy especially with the carbs coming in around fifty:

Calories 2,227
Fat 165.3 1,461 65 %
Carbohydrate 53.9 213 10 %
Dietary Fiber 5.5
Protein 133.7 557 25 %
Alcohol 0.0 0 0 %

Doing liquid fast DD today and PRAYING to see 193 on my scale tomorrow morning! For some reason I usually hit my lowest weight of the week on Saturday morning lol.

Yeah its hard because there reallly is no way to use a high level of fat and stay under 500 calories! I mean, one could do nothing but eat two TBS of coconut oil or something but man... throwup!

LOL
But the fat fast is only like 200-300 cals less than my Down Day allowance, so I might do it again. Once I am at a lower weight I might have to start watching fat, and I do know that. For now, it's almost like it gets my fat burn going and it keeps going once the dietary fat "runs out".

OK so I did something stupid... I weighed myself again since yesterday was another down day... I was going to wait until Sunday after my 3rd down day, but I caved and weighed. I was back UP to 288.8

Really, I almost cried.

Hang in there! I do not go down after every DD and sometimes I go up. USUALLY though I show a loss after my third consecutive DD. Give yourself one or two more before you step on the scale again okay? I am a COMPULSIVE weigher HOWEVER I honestly don't let the fluctuations get to me which is how I can justify getting on the damn thing so much.

I think I remember reading that a few years ago. I forgot about that research. And that has to be tough to have someone (furry or not, lol) wake you that early every morning!

He responded that he saw no problem at all so long as I got sufficient high quality protein in those few calories.

So that's two doctors who don't think that this WOE is too extreme.
Thanks for this! It helps to know this!!

Maryposa-

Hang in there a little longer. I recall that when I began JUDDD, I didn't see a loss for at least a week, and that was very slight. I almost abandoned the plan. But it must take my body a while to agree to lose because after about a month of very, very slight loss, I"m now losing steadily with JUDDD. You may be like me and need more time at the beginning.

Something else to consider:
Dr. J says (in his book) that if there's a problem with losing, it is always the UD calories. I couldn't possibly eat to the limit the system gives me (something like 2300 calories); I'd GAIN on that. So if you don't lose in another week or so, I'd try lowering UD calories a little.
