I'm in Ketosis and have a lot of problems falling asleep because of it. Love the energy but miss my sleep too!

That is what keeps me from going back to induction (which I like and find cleansing). I just cannot sleep and after a while it takes its toll.

Due to a nutty week this is an UD for me. I have been off track. Yesterday was suppose to be an UD but I have a cold and just did not want to eat. I am aiming for around 1500 caloires.

I saw a woman on TV (forgot her name) who believes that the low serotonin on low carb diets (and probably low cal as well) is the cause of sleep problems. She advocates a simple roasted or boiled potato about 8 pm, and says that will raise the serotonin and induce sleep. I've never tried this because I don't have sleep issues, but it seems to me that this is something that (if it works) could even be included on DDs.

Does anyone (or did you when first starting) feel guilty about their calories on UD??
I'm at 1400 for the day and am feeling really guilty about it. Its not like I'm eating junk either, it's just my normal LC foods (other than one serving of dark chocolate)
Its so weird because I've had many days at 1800 to 2000+ cals when LCing and it never bothered me. I guess maybe I'm worried about it because my carbs have been higher since starting JUDDDD.

I think its just a change of mindset. When doing Atkins (or other LC plans) calories aren't the focus, carbs are. When your carbs are low you are doing the "right thing."

Now you are counting calories & they are where they should be, so you are doing the "right thing" again, but you have internalized low carb for so long its hard to make the switch.

Its' all a balancing act. Meat, eggs, cheese and the other LC stuff we eat are pretty calorie-dense. I think carbs pretty much have to come up some as calories go down.

As long as YOU are in control (not the food), that's what matters. You may be eating more carbs, but you are doing it in a controlled way for a specific purpose. I "feel bad" (guilty, whatever you want to call it) about something I eat if I felt out of control at the time I ate it- even if it was something not so bad and my totals come up OK at the end of the day.

I hope that all made sense.

Thanks Gina, that makes perfect sense and you made a great point that I think is whats making me feel so bad today. Yesterday was my DD and I tried to save most of my cals for dinner. By the time dinner came I was starving so although I didn't go over my calories for the day I did eat more than I should have or wanted to. I did feel sort of out of control with my eating at that time and I think thats one of the things thats bothering me. It reminded me of my old binging days I think that along with the higher carb amounts I've been eating is whats making me feel uneasy. I went though the same period of guilt when I started lcing and that was due to being so scared of eating higher fat, lol.
I guess I just need some time to mentally adjust.

Hello, Just wanted to add that what I loved most about this WOE in the beginning was that I did not have to feel guilty about what I was eating on UD, that being said I am now trying to get the UD under control because with that mindset I eventually began eating anything and everything I wanted without restraint which is not good. However, in the beginning when I was making better choices I was still eating way more calories than recommended on UD's and still lost a pound a week. If I had reined in my UD's maybe this would have been more but I was not feeling deprived at all. It is this darned easter candy that did me in - but no gain even with the candy.

Today I am really trying to keep my UD under control but went to Panera for lunch and order what I though would be the most benigh sandwhich - Mediterian Vegtable with hummus instead of mayo came home looked it up 710 whopping calories! So even though my eating will end up being a lot cleaner today, calories will be high because I am going out to dinner. I just keep trying and am thankful that this WOE is forgiving.

Just do what feels right and see where it takes you, if you don't gain keep going, if you don't lose you may need to cut back some. Just keep going it does work!

I know many folks here say that saving the cals on DDs for dinner works for them, but it wouldn't for me. I haven't been at this very long, but I still feel like I need three meals a day. And I try to make them feel like "normal" meals (with adjustments of course).

For example, I just ate lunch. Normally, I would have had some lunchmeat roll-ups with ham or roast beef, full-fat cheddar and plenty of mayo. Today I had thin-sliced turkey, low fat string cheese and sliced dill pickles.

I'm not stuffed by any means, but I'm not hungry anymore. I ate lunch and I'll live to eat another lunch tomorrow.

I gotta tell ya, I learned something about my choosing to save my cals for dinner:

Today, I had a few crackers and home-made cheese about 10 am. I never made my own cheese before so I just HAD to try it out.

Since I don't usually eat anything until 4pm, I've been ravenous and fighting cravings all day. Booooo...

Today I've had to have as much willpower as I've needed on my first DD! Almost there people.

In any event, that taught me that if I wanna save them, I had better not eat in the morning. Remember, I can only speak for myself, but that's how it's going for me!

Well its almost 5:00 on my second DD. So far, I have had two shakes at 110 cals each and 3 cups of coffee with 1 tbs of sf low cal cream. I am now eating celery and laughing cow cheese. My calories are at 281. I am gonna continue with hot tea, a dill pickle and maybe some broth if needed.

I have been super busy writing a massive research paper for my masters so my mind has been totally preoccupied.

Hope everyone else is doing well!!

So my DD is half way over. Thank God!!! My allotment is 437 calories today. Here's what I had:

Breakfast around 9:30am:
2 cups of Coffee w/ Da Vinci's
Low Carb Wrap (50)
Fat Free hot Dog (40)

Lunch around 1pm:
Green Salad (35)
Low Carb Wrap (50)
1 Light Laughing Cow Wedge (35)
2 Fat Free hot Dogs (80)

So I'm at 280 calories so far today. Another 157 calories allowed today. I think I'll have dinner around 5:30 with another meal like lunch except without the cheese and then go to the gym for an hour of cardio plus yoga. I'm drinking A LOT of tea today, which is helping a lot. I really like FF hot dogs btw. Mmmm who woulda thunk!?!?!? I think staying busy is KEY. And for me, the evening workout helps a lot.

I went to Trader Joe's this afternoon and was a big, fat copycat of what Kisha buys. I even got some hummus. I have never eaten hummus, ever. But I will tomorrow. That and 45 calorie hot dogs.

This doesn't feel like a diet. It will tomorrow, but I am OK with that if it works. I'll worry about that tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day (I wish I could type in a cheesy southern accent).
muahahaha! Loving it! It only feels like a diet every other day right?

just checking in today. I've moved offices and my online access won't be as regular. SAD FACE.
I get the 97% Fat Free hebrew national dogs from Trader Joe's. I've also seen them at Knobb Hill (grocery store). Other companies make 100% fat free too I know.

Down Day AWF for me today. I'm way hungry! ugh.
I'll be busy after work and tonight though so I should make it.
I'm looking forward to my chocolate protein shake after work!

A successful DD today!! Woo hoo! I had an egg cream about an hour ago and that's it all day. I really haven't been that hungry today.

I HAVE been peeing like crazy and feel I might be at a new low tommorrow. My lowest so far has been 123.8 so if it says 123.6 I will be happy!! Virgin territory! We'll see!

msgirl: Can you get buy with eating a dill pickle and broth without retaining water? Some people need the salt to feel better though. I was just wondering. Morton's salt substitute has 610 mg. potassium per 1/4 tsp. I try to use half salt substitute and half salt in a meal - like eggs for example. Have fun with your paper! You go girl! I always enjoyed research papers. I've thought about going back to get my Masters, but the college I graduated from is now offering a bridge program - BSN to PhD for DNP. Most colleges are phasing out the Masters program for the areas in nursing I'm interested in. I'd be retirement age by the time I graduated! So I'll put it all on the shelf and enjoy the extra time I have with my little family and my pets.

I am always RIDICULOUSLY cold on DD especially. Its the Hypo plus the lack of calories. I swear our bodies generate heat by digesting or something. Just a theory but there is a marked difference in temp for me between UD and DD. Of course I'm always colder than everyone else... unless I'm hotter! lol.

Retro: It seems I was mistaken about the chain of events regarding calorie restriction. I thought: 1) calorie restriction; 2) resveratrol is produced; 3) SIRT1 is produced; 4) metabolism speeds up. My friend and I are both looking this up. So far, we can't find where resveratrol is produced in the human body. It seems resveratrol mimmicks the results of calorie restriction in that it produces SIRT1 the way that the alternate day fasting program does. As far as I can see at this point, resveratrol is found in certain plants, the skins of certain grapes being one source. I'll keep reading into this subject. My friend said she's sure she heard that resveratrol is produced in the body. Well, I'm sure she heard it from me; and I'm not so sure I was correct!

It looks like everyone is doing well today! Great!!

I am over what I planned for calories, in the mid 600's. I have been working hard in my garden today, all day, from 10 am this morning till 5 pm. We had a project planned and thankfully we finished it today. I'm pooped. Because I was working almost non-stop, I don't feel bad about going over.

This is interesting. Thanks for sharing it! Since I am not taking a multi, I wonder if once I start I will see a change in my sleeping pattern.

Finally my UD is over. It wasn't good and I doubt I'll have to worry about ketosis keeping me up tonight
I'm so glad that tomorrow is a DD, I can honestly say I'm looking forward to it.
I went this evening and bought some shakes for tomorrow, they are 110cals each. I work from 3pm to 11:30pm tomorrow so I'll take 2 of those with me and eat something small before I head in.

Hey everyone, I just posted on the intermittent fasting thread that I didn't do too well today because I got too hungry before my window of eating (Fast 5) came and then I overate on the carbs (specifically trail mix....it's gone now) However, I just checked and I am still in deep ketosis. I'm at about 750 calories for the day with 70 something grams of carbs. I'm going to have an egg cream in a few minutes to up my calories a bit without upping my carbs. If I was doing JUDDD, I'd just call this a down day, but I'm not sure I want to do that and then fast until 5 pm tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a run in tomorrow before 5 and I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it on that low of calories from today. Any thoughts? My weight last night was 134.2, this morning 133.2 and tonight 133.2, so I should be at 132 tomorrow. My fingers are crossed! oh and I did a 45 minute hike at the Carl Sandburg home this afternoon and was pretty bonked when it was over. The tree pollen killed me!

Well UD is over and while I made much better choices today and did not eat all day my calories were still probably high and my weight is way up. I am not really worried about the weight because I know it will come back off with DD but I wish it would not jump so much. I will try to eat more tomorrow on DD - that sounds so weird, "I will try to eat more" but honestly it is a challenge for me mentally. I am really just not that hungry and say why add the calories but I think that is why the big gain on UD. I just want the scale to stabilize some - I imagine if I only weighed once a week, I would see that - yet another challenge for me. That being said, the scale does not nearly impact my moods the way it has in the past YEAH.

Congratulations to all you JUDDDers, sounds like a day well done for everyone. Have a great weekend.
