Vanilla-
I'm on a DD too today--and although we say it gets easier (it does), today I'm starving. I think it's stress hunger because I'm getting organized to leave for four days in New Orleans, and packing would be no problem, but I have to get things organized for my cat sitters (one stays in the house; the other one visits to 'love' him). I knew in advance that I tend to stress out and EAT, so I'm controlling it (knowledge is power:-), but I'm still starving. I find that hot tea helps, but when even that fails, I find that distracting myself with some activity (like right now surfing the boards:-) REALLY helps. This morning I was hungry, but when I got involved fixing up the guest room for my sitter, I suddenly realized that I was no longer hungry. So you might want to think of things to do on DDs to distract yourself. Reading or watching TV is FATAL to me because it allows the hunger to take over. |

Leo - Yep, having done JUDDD before lc'ing, I had DD's that were - excuse the pun - a piece of cake and others like today - hungry! I sit at a computer all day at work, so there's not much I can do other than drink water/crunch ice - and surf! And being that all my DD's are during the week, all I can do is muddle through. I wished I liked hot tea, but I don't. It's just really odd how one DD you sail through and the next is a battle to not eat the arm off! I just try to imagine that the hunger is fat cells being dessimated!
Thanks for the suggestions, though, they are appreciated! ![]() I bought Jay Robb's book on carb-cycling and am reading it now. I had stumbled on carb-cycling as well as y'all at the same time. I am toying with the idea of the carb-cycling since the nice thing about true LC'ing is that you don't have to go hungry, kwim? I wouldn't add in some of the carbier things he does, but just rotate the carbs up and down. I know one thing, I haven't been able to exercise in 2 weeks because of a plethora of after work things and I am so ready to get back to it!

Suggestions for DD meals
DD for me also. I have found that if I have a double serving of Cream of Wheat, SF maple syrup, a couple TBS Almond breeze (total about 280 calories). I am unable to eat anymore, esp. if I save this for the evening. Also an egg is about 70 calories. 1/4 cup of Egg Beaters is 30 calories. The two together makes quite a large omlet and about 12 g. protein. Two slices of low calorie bread toasted (40 cal.) and you can have a nice fried egg sandwich - add some salsa and lettuce, a little onion and mustard and you have a very filling, gourmet sandwich.

I am doing a low carb version of Judd and not only that, I am saving my 400ish calories all for one meal, ala fast five. Yesterday was my first DD, but it was pretty easy for me and my one meal was a great, large taco salad. I found that with a really lean beef, I was able to get 4 oz for 150 cal, 100 cal of sharp cheddar, salsa and some homemade ranch for another 150 which hit my 400 total and was very satisfying. I added lots of seasonings and hot sauce too.
I will probably do it again next week on one of my DD's. Might try an asian stir fry tomorrow with some cabbage and bamboo shoots to add bulk. Shouldn't be too hard to keep it at 400 calories if I use boneless skinless chicken breast. |

Hope you feel better soon, Janice. Sounds like the oatmeal may help prevent some of the nausea with regards to taking meds. I can't take all my vitamins on DD's unless there's something in my stomach - the Cream of Wheat helps me in this way. My husband and I got the flu and then another upper respiratory virus right afterward. I had the flu shot and take Vit D3 - didn't help this time around. Are you noticing an increase in energy yet with JUDD? I certainly am.

CLANNAD Here's what I came up with: 1 cup of cooked Oat Bran is 88 calories. 1 cup of cooked Cream of Wheat is 129. Looks like I've found a new breakfast cereal! Thank you. (I got this info from a website NutritionData.)

More DD Ideas
I like to take 100 calories worth of plain non-fat thick greek yogurt (Chobani or Fage), fruit (blueberries, strawberries, etc), and a little sweetnener (I use stevia) can be very filling. On my up days I'll eat full fat greek yogurt or 2% if I can't find the full fat version (They can't seem to keep in stock at my grocery store). But for DD, I do the non-fat to save the calories.
I love stir fry. I like to stir fry a chicken breast with loads of veggies, and add a little brown rice on the side if I can offord it. Otherwise I forego the rice and just load up on veggies. All the fiber from the stir fry fills me up for hours and for very little calories. The other day I made a ground chicken burger. I added a little (just a dab really, you don't need a lot to add some flavor) ketchup, horseradish mustard, worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt & pepper to the ground meat, then formed the patties and pan fried. I didn't have any buns to put it on, so I put the patty over 2 cups of baby spinach and other veggies to make it interesting. Not the same as a beef burger, but it was pretty tasty, so I'll be doint that one again. |

Redeemed- I should qualify "homemade". I use Uncle Dans original ranch seasoning mix and since one package makes like 4 cups, I just spoon out what I need for the amount of dressing I make. Last night I did 1.5 cups using equal 1/2 cups of: buttermilk, sour cream (full fat) and Hellmans Light (blue label not green!). Normally I would use regular Hellmans, but I keep light for when I am counting calories. It is only 45 per tb vs 100 in the regular. I hate it plain, but can't tell the difference in the ranch. I think I used maybe a tsp. of the dry mix. It is really salty/strong and I can stretch one package for 3-4 batches usually.
I computed the calories and 1/4 cup ended up being only around 100. The key is the buttermilk, which is what real ranch dressing should have and most bottled ones do not. I love ranch on my taco salads instead of straight sour cream. Try it, and you will be amazed how much better it is than bottled. OH, and I love to add tobasco chipotle sometimes and use as a dip for........... pretty much anything. |

Thanks, Snaggle for the recipe. I use a similar one: Ranch Seasoning Mix, low fat Buttermilk and low fat cottage cheese. The tobasco sauce and chipolte seasoning should add a real kick - I'll have to try that.

Interview With Dr. Johnson
Dr. Johnson wasn't given enough time to talk. Dr. Atkins, also, was the recipient of "rock throwing" but stood his ground and helped countless thousands of people.

Thanks for that link. I think the lady he brought on as his success story really was no help at all. Although she is probably pretty typical of many folks in terms of how she eats, she didn't seem to care much about nutrition and he would have been better served if he could have had someone who had done his plan with more thought to the composition of their diet. I also wish he could change his tune on what he thinks is a healthy diet. The whole "grains as the basis of the diet" concept for me is what got us all in this mess in the first place. I think his concept of up/down, albiet simple, is actually one of the most innovative ways for many people with busy lifestyles to maintain a healthier weight. I think the nutritionist lady in the video was all wrong when she said it didn't work as a lifestyle. I have only been doing it for 3 days, but truly feel that by incorporating the ud/dd plan, I could have found the secret for losing more regularly, and ultimately, and more importantly, maintenance.
What he says is so true. I found my first down day relatively easy and really enjoyed my one meal. Yesterday for my upday I could barely get to the 1800 calories I had planned. |

Okay, I survived my first UD yesterday.
![]() I was joking, but actually.. now that I think about it. I did need extra "skills" to avoiding eating anything and everything. I actually didn't eat good food, but I didn't eat MUCH of it either. I was 1885 cals at the end of the day. What I would like to change about my next UD is healthier choices and better logging of calories. Soooo.. it's a DD today. J/K, I kinda like them. But you know what gits mah goat??? The first DD there were Krispy Kremes in the copy room at work. Nothing free yesterday, a UD. Today (DD), bagles with honey nut cream cheese. I love bagels and I LOVE that cream cheese. You monsters!!Ah well.. it feels good to say no, right??

Good luck Kamicryze! If I never had to worry about weight, a toasted good chewy bagel with cream cheese would be my brekky every day. LOVE em.
I am DD'ing right there with you. Enjoying (?) my black coffee and plotting my 400 calorie dinner for tonight. |

failed miserably at down day yesterday... I made it to 3:30pm, then HAD to eat something... I was feeling really crappy. So I ate, and still felt crappy. Oh well. Today I am still having an UD, very low carb.
