![]() Thank you Wallaby, I truly have the best motivators in my two daughters. Losing my mum at 15 was (and is) so hard. So I am a fanatic when it comes to researching and reading up on how to prevent breast cancer. But I keep a good head about it and do what sounds reasonable to me. So far being vegetarian (mostly) and exercise are two things I can easily do. And, I have days where I don't want to do anything and would prefer to sit on the couch eating my way through anything chocolatey. On the days I don't want to exercise, I make a deal with myself that I only have to do 5 min. If after that I want to quit, I can. I have yet to stop after 5 min. On the days I want junky food, I let myself. That way I am not in a constant battle tring to convince myself not to do something I know I am going to do anyway! You will get there too, you are motivated and are working a great plan! ![]() Mel - I run on the tread. The weather is too up and down for me to run outside (freezing in the winter, way too humid in the summer). I prefer to watch the telly while I run anyway! It's 13 today and should go up to 18 by Friday! Yay! Retro - I don't believe permission was granted for MBB to have a life! She'll be back soon, she will miss us too much! lol MBB - ah, there you are! You must be so tired! What a great week though! Don't run off and join the circus before you are back next week! |

Morning Tweakers. Today is DD AWF for me. Still up weight from stats after carbtastic easter. Had slightly out of control UD yesterday too. Did good on the carbs but didn't even bother tracking all the cals. I'm going to guess like 2500!!!

Oh my God. My laptop computer died last night. 5 years of documents, e books galore, 5 years of ******, ,many work related reports all gone. I'm lost! Posting this from DH's computer but it's usually tied up as he uses it for work (it took me 3 tries to get on - don't know any of my passwords - they were in a file on mu computer!). Why oh why had I not saved the critical stuff to thumbdrives! Lesson learned too late. Don't know what happened but will first try replacing the hard drive and if that doesn't work start saving for a new laptop. I could cry.
So I'll be mostly offline for a while and unable to answer PM's, but I'll be thinking of you all and missing your support and humor. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Damn. |

Whew! it's a real DD today and so far so good. I'm at 45 cals and holding fast.
I just cleaned my closet again (since I'm home today) to get ready for spring AND to avoid the kitchen. It felt so great to pile up the clothes that don't fit anymore. ![]() ![]() |

Hello Ladies, I have been following this thread and the original JUDDD thread since February and have received advice from a few of you, Thank you! I started JUDDD two months ago with 8 - 10 pounds to lose and quickly lost that in the first 6 weeks - so very happy with this program. Before starting JUDDD I had done the whole 8 weeks of Crack the Fat Loss Code, a carb-cycling program with no success, although it is a very good diet and DH lost 20 pounds it just did not work for me. I floundered around for awhile and tried Atkins induction, egg/meat fasting, and a bit of VLC/no carb. Nothing worked for me until JUDDD Yeah!I really like this WOE and find it to be easy. I am no stranger to calorie restriction so the DD are not really much of a challenge for me most of them are WF or under 100 calories. My problem is the UD! Unlike most of you, I want to eat all day on an UD, not necessarily hungry I just want everything! This is probably because I do not eat LC. I did better with the UD in the beginning but have had no control the past few weeks and find that I gain 4 to 6 pounds every UD form am to pm and am up 3 to 4 pounds the next morning. I generally do a WF to get the weight off again. I should be in maintenance and should be eating probably around 800 calories on my DD but I can't because my UD are huge. Anyway, sorry for the long post, I did want to share my success but I am also hoping if I join this group it will give me some accountability so that I don't continue to overeat on those darn UD - I love them though .

Hi 40! Good to "see" you here. As for your UD's, you may be struggling because your DD's are so low. When I was on 300 cal DD's I would eat more on UD's. I now eat 800 on UD's and I struggle to eat my allotted UD cals, which are around 1800. I need to make a conscious effort to get them in (I don't want to go too low). I never thought this would be an issue for me as I love to eat! I don't do low carb on either DD or UD. My DD foods are the same as my UD foods, only I eat way less. Can you try increasing your DD cals slightly and see if that helps you on your UD's? I know that I would gain 2-4 pounds each week as well, and all of them on the weekend when I had 2 UD's in a row.
Shunsweets - how awful about your computer! We will miss you while you are gone. Is there any way to salvage it? I am not a computer expert, but maybe there is a way to get it back? Wallaby - oh yes, what a great feeling! Congrats! I do many mini-projects on my DD's too to keep busy. |

I migrated over here from CTFLC too, and love this way of eating! Congratulations on your success!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I think I have the same situation you do, where I pack on pounds after an UD (well for me it was after each weekend, since my Down Days are M-W-F, the weekends have always been hard for me to figure out). My mid-week up days (Tuesday and Thursday) aren't a problem because I'm usually at work. It's the weekends where my weight jumps so drastically and then I feel like I'm spending all week just losing the damage from the weekend. Recently I've started doing some fast-five days - instead of doing 0-calorie down days - and haven't noticed the big gains anymore. I think my body was just too used to the schedule, so shaking things up has helped. So for my weekend days I try to limit myself to two choices: Able to eat junky food - OR - Able to eat all day long And I have to pick ONE of the two, because doing both just doesn't work for me. So if it's junky food, I try to do it within a 5 hour time frame. If I'm going to be eating all day I try to stick to mostly healthy choices. I know I could count calories but I don't want to on my up days, so I'm trying to make it work by schedule rather than by exactly what's consumed. ![]() Mark Bittman has a book out called "Food Matters". His entire weight loss plan is eating only fresh fruits and vegetables (basically) all day, and then having absolutely free-reign to eat everything he wants at dinner time. Maybe that's something to try? I don't know if any of that helps. It's nice to see you here!! |

I just wrote a post and lost it
![]() Any way... Thank you so much for the advice. You brought up some really good points that I had not thought about and I got the same suggestions from the women on the other JUDDD thread too which goes to show you that great minds think alike ![]() I think you are right that I need to add calories to my DD. In addition to the low DD making me want to eat everything on UD I think the significant weight gain which most are not reporting after UD is due to the drastic difference I am putting my body through from day to day. I believe that it is water weight because I am able to get it off fairly easily so it doesn't totally freak me out but it does make me think I need to go extreme the next day. I am in a vicious cycle that I would like to break first by getting my UD under control but I think I may have to do the other first - eat more on DD. I have to admit that makes me really nervous. The DD are easy because there are no choices. When I first started and ate early on DD I wanted to eat all day so I waited until dinner to consume all my calories. Maybe I should incorporate Fast 5. Hum. I like your advice Quandria, on UD either eat all day healthy or eat junk because there are days I want the fun stuff. I will keep you posted. Again thank you so much for your great input! |

Okay, I'm a doofus. I meant to say that I'm incorporating Fast-Five into my up days. My down day eating has always been a single meal at night, or very late afternoon, if I'm not doing a wf.

How is it waiting so long in the day to eat on UD. I wake up morning of UD just psychologically ready to get food down although probably not really truly hungry. and wow if you're doing AWF on DD then this is giving you a REALLY LONG fasting window! What hours is your fast-five window open on UD? |

It sounds confusing, and I'm partially figuring it out as I type this ![]() I'm using 3:00 - 8:00 pm for the fast-five window on work days this week. On the weekends it was more like 2:00 to 7:00 or so. Still tweaking the details ![]() Last edited by Quandria; 04-16-2009 at 01:09 PM.. |

This is exactly what got me to try fast-five. I usually ate breakfast on up days because I could, and because I would be thinking about what I could have for breakfast the next day if I was hungry the night before; NOT because I was actually hungry in the morning. Then the rest of the up day I would be either A)pretty ambivalent about eating much of anything or B) grazing all day. I seem to have more success by waiting later in the day - until I'm actually hungry, and like Shel I'm not opposed to stretching the window to more than five hours if need be. So I guess the goal will be to have a lunch and a dinner instead of eating breakfast and having it (apparently) throw-off my hunger instincts for the rest of the day.

Hi everybody. Stole Dh's computer again for a quick read of the threads and a post. Think mine is dead for good so DH is going to free up a bit of time on his for me when he can. No wonder I love him so.
![]() It's so wondrous to me how our minds think alike! I, too, have been playing with fast5 on UD to try to moderate it a bit. So I do fast1 DD every MWF, fast5 UD T,TH,Sun, and have a true UD on Sat. Sounds more complicated than it is. My fast 5 UD window is 5p-10p and I manage to eat more than enough calories in that window because my diet is so high in fat that the cals are sky high. This pattern has finally stabilized my BGL's again and my weight stays in my goal range. Right now I'm only eating meat, eggs, LC dairy, and nuts. On DD I just have eggs 1-3 depending how hungry I am all in one meal at 6pm or so. It's working for me but I wish I could expand my diet choices a bit. I may try to add avocado this week and see if my pancreas will handle it without going wild. Welcome pushing 40. I am another who goes crazy on UD - healthy food - but way too much! That's why I'm trying the fast5 schedule. I, too do very low DD and maybe that's why but I find very low DD easier than moderate ones. I eat a quick 100-200 cals and my appetite doesn't seem to get turned on. If I eat 400 cals I'm hungry all night and want more, more, more!I've been very short on exercise time this week but have been getting in a quick 2 miles each day. Lots of overtime until the 2nd week of May then things may quiet down until everyone starts taking vacations in June/July/Aug. Hope everyone is having a great week. Now I'm really treasuring my computer time with you as it's so limited - there must be a life lesson mixed in there somewhere. ![]() |

Pushing 40 - maybe let yourself have the candy first. You said you are eating the healthy stuff and then the candy. If you want the candy, have that until you are satisfied. My first few UD's were very junky (I still have junky days, but not nearly as many as I used to). The novelty might wear off and you may automatically start craving healthier foods. This is along the same lines as Intuitive Eating. I tried that before and it worked for a bit but I prefer more structure. Anyway, at the beginning I think I ate junk all day, but only when hungry and I paid attention and stopped when full. After a few weeks I noticed I wanted fruits and veg which was amazing to me. When we deny ourselves things that is when we want them the most. That might help you with your mindset switching. For my DD's, which are higher in cals, I wait as long as I can to eat and then I keep myself busy.
HTH and good luck! Hi SS - glad you had time to check in! I hope you can get access to your own computer again and soon! ![]() |

I'm not hungry on down days either, and turned most of mine into water fasts because it was easier to do that than to decide what to eat or risk the food triggering a bigger hunger response. But I'm going back to the sandwich strategy and limiting the wf to just once a week again, as I had better overall results that way. Glad if that helps! It takes a little while to get the plan molded into something that works for each individual. You're doing really great!! |

Shell, I was JUST now thinking that the only days I have been REALLY successful in keeping calories low on DDs is when I'm trying to fast.
Otherwise I'm struggling all day long to keep it low. With a WF, even if I fail, I'm still succeeding in maintaining a decent low cal day. |

I can't tell if I have better results by fasting because my switch to 3 wf a week coincided with an injury that kept me from working out for two weeks, and I'm just now back to working out 2x a week instead of 4. And this week I've been doing fast-five. So I've tweaked myself out of reportable results ![]() I like the wf, the way I would feel after one. And they're not really something I planned to do at first. Just I'd get to dinner time and realize I could just as easily not eat as eat. |

Well hello everyone, I'm back now, well not officiallly back on plan yet, but am back a week after surgery and am feeling surprisingly well. no pain just soreness and some swelling. Had a bit of scare, on my first day of surgery I weighed in at 152 which was last friday. This past Monday I weighed in and was 158 well I was guessing it was water weight and swelling so today I am 151 but will not post it yet, still have swelling and my appetite has not come back yet, so Monday I will be back on plan.Good to hear from everyone and to all newbees, this is the best plan around , well in my humble opinion! Everyone have a great UD and DD today.

I will have to try the water fast. When you do the water fast, is it just water? |
