I think I want to join you guys in this WOE.
I have been at this weight (give or take a pound or two) for several months now and I'm ready to get the scale moving down again. |

This is really interesting! I believe very strongly in the health benefits of fasting and have done similar phases like this through my life, I never knew it had a name! It must definitely feel doable when you know you can eat again the next day Does anyone exercise on their down days? I imagine I could first thing in the morning when I wake up from an up day but other than that, I think I'd find it very difficult. |

What a relief, that the UD figure is a limit and not a target! Whew! ... Plenty of water, all day long, too! Now, what does ****** show me for a DD menu, starting off with a Hot Slosh (WheyPP+Tbs/espresso+Tbs/cacao) for a hefty 184calories?
Whoops, sardines in olive oil are too rich for a 560cal DD at 460cals for fishies in 2Tbs olive oil; that's an UD treat! Quote:

I was wondering what people usually eat on the DD? I've sort of been eating this way for a while, but it was more like a fat fast every other day (so I was eating cream cheese and macadamia nuts every other day). I guess my question really is: does it matter what you eat on the down days? |

Zer-
While a lot of people only eat once a day on DDs, I need to eat at least 3 times--and that works for me. So if you snack throughout the day on HB eggs and that works for you, don't worry about it. In fact, on one of his blogs Dr. Eades expressed some reservations about intermittant fasting (which he had praised) because some studies showed that it played havoc with glucose levels which could be a problem for many people, not just diabetics. I find that knowing I can eat at regular intervals helps get me through DDs more easily. If I think I can't eat, I panic. |

SpaceCowgirl--
No, it doesn't matter what you eat on DDs, according to Dr. J. He advocates shakes at the beginning because he argues that most people underestimate their calories, and it's important to keep the calorie count right on DDs. But many dieters are good at calorie counting, so that shouldn't be a problem if you're confident of your calorie count. I like to eat things (fat/protein) that keep my appetite controlled, but I've been using shakes for part of the day because I try to keep my protein steady to avoid muscle wasting. A high-protein shake is the only way I know to get a lot of protein with minimum calories. |

I also have chicken bullion that I've used, it's amazing how filling and long it takes to 'eat' 2 cups of hot broth at 30 cal. Hope you have a great day.

DOWN DAY
Looks like alot of us are on DD today including me.
I usually just eat one meal on DD. Today it will probably be 4 TJs turkey meatballs (200 cals) and 2 scrambled eggs. Other days I do raw vegetables with hummus and laughing cow light cheese |

I know that some people exercise on both DD and UD, but I only exercise (so far) on UDs. One reason I do Tues, Thurs, Sat as UDs is that has been my schedule for going to the pool (I swim laps and do other exercises in water).
I doubt that I could do this workout on DDs simply because I'm always famished afterwards, and while a 200 cal. "snack" will work on UDs, it would be half of my day's food on DDs! |

darn it. Even with a 300 cal DD today my average will be 1600 for the two days! |

Kisha-
I feel your pain! That's why I hate to eat out--although I love eating out. I'm never sure of the calories because although the menu might say "chicken breast" or "salmon fillet," you're never sure what goes into the dish. Even when you ASK, you can't be sure that you're getting the correct answer--at least that's been my experience. I have two events this week involving dinner in restaurants (starting tonight), so I might be too caloric this week myself--despite trying to be careful. |

Thanks for the info! In my whole life, I have rarely felt hungry before dinner so I think I'll like this WOE. I always felt like I was forcing myself to eat other meals. Anyway, I'm excited for my first DD. Good luck to everyone else today! |

Hi everyone! I was just wondering why our bodies don't go into the infamous 'starvation mode' on the DDs? I tried finding the answer on Dr. Johnson's website but didn't find anything.

So the tell-all book some of us might write someday can be titled "How I Snuck Up on My Metabolism" or some such thing? Just shifting to a 48hr rhythm, an alternate day schedule of supplying calories, can trigger such losses as we are seeing, with a notable breaking of set points that have defied other strategies. Yay!

I've been re-thinking my notion of having egg noodles as part of my UD menu. I'm thinking it is wiser to stick to LC foods, to low-glycemic vegies and fruit, as I increase calories for an UD. Allowing total carb fest will damage what ketosis I have going on, which is bound to slow down weight loss. So I'm looking at a list of vegies and fruits that I might allow on the UD - and will let egg noodles be a food that I'll lust for in my heart (just love Jimmy Carter's phrasing!) while I do what I can to reduce flesh by avoiding flour/pasta for a little longer. From what I hear, some of our favorite starchy carby food is not All That when we do allow ourself a little latitude. What a waste, to find out that a carby craving is not what we remember, not the lift or the escape that it once was for us!
