Hey Kelly! Welcome to JUDD. Congrats on your first DD... how did it turn out? They get SO MUCH easier after you get a few under your belt. Its getting started that is daunting. I think you'll really like this WOE. I know I have personally experienced my first real weight loss successes in a LONG TIME! We're looking forward to getting to know you too.
It went pretty well. I had the "craving" for something about 9:30 last night, so I threw an atkins strawberry shake in the freezer. It was kindof slushy when I drank it. It was cold, slushy, sweet..... was the perfect "dessert". So at the end of the day, I think I was about 400 calories (150 atkins shake, 165 for chicken and I'll say 70 for the cabbage soup). 391 was my goal. It was really a good day and I felt great.

I was in the neighborhood of my favorite place CHIPOTLE yesterday at lunchtime. I told myself that I could have it today. I have a burrito bowl sitting in front of me right now. Typically, I could eat the whole thing. I'd be beyond stuffed, but I could eat it. I am shocked that I could barely eat 1/3 of it and i'm FULL! It was nice to know that I could make it thru yesterday knowing that I could eat whatever today.

I havent' told anyone IRL about this diet (WOE) yet. I just don't want to hear the criticisms. I'd love to find something that will work for me and show some progress. I was amazed at how well I felt yesterday overall and how easy it seemed to have some control over the food going into my mouth (or really not going into my mouth).

That's awesome! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU WILL DO IT! I have the same 10 lbs I am up/down/up again. It's frustrating for sure. Sounds great to hear success stories with this WOE!

AWESOME!!! You did amazing on your first DD. Those Atkins shakes... I need to pick some up for just the type of situation you described.

I'm also glad to hear your appetite is diminished on your first UD. It tends to happen on this WOE and is so wonderful. Me... for me at first I was way overeating on UD but that has totally levelled off after a month into this WOE.

As far as telling people IRL... I tend to be in the "none of their business" camp. I now DO tell *some* people about my Alt Day WOE HOWEVER I blame it on my screwy thyroid. You can come here for support.

Wow Kisha you're doing great! You do DD just like me - all one little meal.

Thanks for the heads up on the cals in supplements. I never thought of it. I think I'll go with Ocean and just not even try to figure it in. Too much computing!

Keep on Judding everyone.

Yup, and actually I was down to 206.5 but now back to 209 after the fiasco the other day. I don't suspect it will be long before it's off though.

YESTERDAY UD Totals

big old UD yesterday:
Calories 2,267
Fat 180.7 1,615 72 %
Carbohydrate 45.4 174 8 %
Dietary Fiber 8.8
Protein 107.2 446 20 %

I'm very very happy with those macros.

DD today for me and I feel confident this morning that I can do just as well as I did on Monday. I'm actually planning on eating the exact same things and also drinking plenty of water today.

I use ******. I've been using it ALMOST my whole journey... with periods where i completely fail to track my food intake. My weight loss has been tracking in there back up to 253 pounds although I started before that.

I've added in alot of the foods I eat regularly as custom foods so that they are 100% accurate. Using the recent foods and custom foods options make it easier to track once you get started.

Hello Dear,
I personally wouldn't worry too much about supplements or CLO pills. Especially since it seems you are staying *quite* low on UD. Why so low?

Hi all you Juddders!!! I have been following this for a few months now and posting every so often but not actually starting. The result of that (and the holidays) is that I am 10 lbs. heavier than when I first found you all!

I REALLY want to do this. I like this thread. I love everyone's opinions but on the tweaker's thread there's too much wiggle room for me. Hopefully I will be of some support for you guys too.

I plan to start tomorrow. I have some experience in this. I have tried a few DD here and there, but never stuck with it for very long. I'm sure I will have lots of questions along the way such as...

Are you LCing along with JUDDD?
Are you doing a true alternate day or designating your DD for the week?

I am so excited for you Kisha!! I look forward to seeing everyone else's results (along w/ mine)

About telling people IRL...the only one who would notice would be DH and the few times I have done a DD I just said I am keeping my cals low today. At work I can have a salad w/ low cal dressing and no one notices. They are so used to me dieting that if I pass up treats no one says anything. My only hang up is special events. Do you just enjoy them, or try to stick to a DD if one should occur on a DD?

Tomorrow will be a DD and I will check in with you all. Sorry this is so long w/ lots of questions. Just excited to start! Blessings to all!

Welcome Jenny-

I can't speak for others, but let me respond with my own system. Yes, I eat LC on JUDDD. I have been eating LC for quite a while both for health (diabetes runs in my family) and for weight loss. But being post-menopausal and hypothyroid, I found that I had to severely restrict my calories (<1000 per day) in order to lose. I found that hard to keep up; after a while, I'd feel so deprived that I'd binge and re-gain. JUDDD has been the answer to that problem.

It has helped me both psychologically and physically. I can "average" 800-900 cal. per day between DD and UD without feeling at all deprived. And keeping my DD at 400 cal (something I never believed I'd be able to do) has given me such a sense of control over food. In fact, DD are "easier" in many ways than my UDs. (By the way, I think LC eating helps me with JUDDD because it's the only thing that has ever suppressed my appetite.)

Right now, I'm not doing pure alternative days but DDs on MWF, with UDs on T ,Thurs, and Sat. Sunday has been a problem. I've tried doing a "medium" day on Sunday (c. 900 cal.) but it frequently escalates into another UD. However, I'm losing this way, so I may keep it. I initially did this because I swim on T, Thurs., and Sat. for exercise, and I didn't want to do that on DDs. It's also easier for me to keep track.

I've been able to re-organize for social events in the past (because I have so few), but next week, I have two dinner events, and it's impossible to keep them both on UDs. I'm going to try to do a DD on one of them by eating as sparingly as possible. I want to see if I can make this work because I'm going away for 4 days in April, and I don't want to abandon this plan but make it work in spite of having to eat out, etc. I'll post how next week goes.

I hope this info is helpful to you. I LOVE JUDDD!

Thanks Leo! Yes, very helpful. I usually use social events as excuses to go off plan, which in and of itself is not so bad, but it usually means I go off plan the whole day and possibly for days-ridiculously so, like I will never get to eat this stuff again. Thus my constant weight yo-yo.

I am hoping that this plan will help me to lose weight, but have my social events (not many for me either) have some foods I really enjoy, and end my yo-yoing.

I hope you don't mind me posting my DD food menu-

B-1/2 grapefruit-40 cals. black coffee
L-bowl homemade vegie soup-50 cals
flat out wrap w/ 1 slice deli turkey, 1 slice ff cheese (1/2 eaten now)-70 cals
S-other 1/2 wrap (before yoga)-70 cals
D-more vegie soup-50 cals.
S-maybe glass red wine (with American Idol:blush-80 cals.

That's 360 cals. My recommended cals is about 400 so that leaves me 40 if I need a snack. Maybe a cup of coffee w/ some 1/2 & 1/2.

Although I am doing a DD today, my plan is to have MWF DD; T Th Sat. UD, and Sun. will be a Fast 5 sort of day. I just need to designate days or I will make too many excuses to ditch the DD!!!

Blessings to you all, Leo, Kisha, Retro, kind, kelly, ocean, shunsweets, mammapo, donia, and anyone else lurking!!

Jenny-

I love your DD menu--it seems really satisfying. I've been sticking mainly to shakes with a morning egg thing only because it's easier to count calories AND get the amount of protein I want (I worry about protein given my need to restrict calories). I have a great veggie soup that I make, but I've been afraid to make it because I'm not sure of the calorie count--with 350 to play with, there's not enough room for error.

Dasiey-

You need to be careful of going too low in calories on your UD--otherwise you're going to wind up with all DDs. And often going too low defeats your purpose because you lower your metabolism (the body wants to conserve its energy) and you wind up losing less rather than more. ALL the literature on weight loss warns against losing too quickly because you tend to gain equally quickly when you stop "dieting." You want to do something that you can live with long term, gradually adding calories to stop losing when you reach goal.

YESTERDAY DD TOTALS

Calories 269
Fat 16.8 150 56 %
Carbohydrate 20.7 81 30 %
Dietary Fiber 4.1
Protein 9.3 37 14 %
Alcohol 0.0 0 0 %

Almost identical to Monday except Monday I had half a slice of jack cheese and yestserday I had a splash of half and half in my coffee instead. The rest of the food for both days was raw veg, hummus, and 3 wedges laughing cow light cheese.

No loss this morning in fact my scale was basically identical to the last time I weighed. This is actually unusual for me as historically my weight really bounces again. I am optimistic that after my next DD I will have moved down even further.

Welcome! i really love this WOE and it sounds like it will work for you too. I do *true* alternation... my DD and UD are different every week. I HAVE done two UD in a row (superbowl sunday) and I found that as long as I went right back to a good clean DD the day after I lost weight! I've been lucky that most of my eating engagements have just happened to fall on UD. Should the next eating occasion fall on a DD though I'll just have to assess if i can stick to DD that day or not. I am willing to do two UD in a row followed by strict DD. Thats my normal solution to this problem.

I also eat LC both for health and for weight loss. I am also hypothyroid and MUST eat LC to lose ANYTHING. Like Leo I don't know if I could do JUDD without LC. I NEED the natural appetite supression of ketosis.

Your DD menu looks awesome to me!

oooh! good job on the loss! I want to second Leo and say I believe the plan works BEST when we eat enough on the UD also. It is the alternation that tricks our body into weight loss. Sounds like you're doing awesome so far. I'm glad you're posting.

LOL... welcome! here's what I would do... I'd aim for 400-500 cals on DD and 2000 on UD (hey, round up a few there, DR J says its okay to go over on UD). The website also says its good to just do liquid on DD for the first two weeks. For me that would mean LC shakes since i also LC. However personally, I really wanted to eat on DD so I never did the liquid approach. It depends on how you feel not eating (solid food) on DD for the first two weeks.

I say pick a start day as your first DD and then go for it!

so about 25% (487) more or less on DD
I dont think I would have a prob with liquid fasts I did CAMBRIDGE for 3 months (shudder)
OK if today is DD1 amd tomarrow is UD1
that would be DD's on tues, thur, sat
and UD on Sun,Mon, Wed
???

heres todays menu so far
2 grandmothers cookies 2@1.00 (before I decided to JUDDD)
300 cals
and I have 4 HB eggs with me @ 80 cals each
so I can have 2 HB eggs for lunch to put me at 460
then when I get home just broth and SFkoolaid, tea ect
does that sound right?

so about 25% (487) more or less on DD
I dont think I would have a prob with liquid fasts I did CAMBRIDGE for 3 months (shudder)
OK if today is DD1 amd tomarrow is UD1
that would be DD's on tues, thur, sat
and UD on Sun,Mon, Wed
???
I do "true alternation"... meaning that my DD UD are different every week. I just alternate DD UD DD UD etc. so its not a concrete schedule. Some do set days and then do either MD (Medium Day - NOT described by DR JUDD) on the left over day. Or they do two UD in a row either F/Sat or Sat/Sun. Its sort of up to you what you think will work best

My Sleep

I wanted to mention that I have really noticed an improvement in my sleeping since I started JUDD. I have never really had trouble sleeping, no insomnia or anything but I have ALWAYS had the hardest hardest time waking up in the morning. For at least the last two weeks I have been sleeping SO SOUNDLY. Falling asleep MINUTES after LD in the B (Laying Down in the Bed) sleeping through the whole night (no dreams) and then waking up SO EASILY. This is really miraculous for me. I haven't had anything but "bad morning" my whole life and the change is blowing my mind.

Then I would suggets just setting up your schedule for three DD and four UD a week with always FRI as upday.

ETA: and never two DD in a row. tow UD in a row is fine but two DD isn't
