Hi.
You will find it. {Book{I would like to know what others are picking up on reading 244-245 and seeIf Im understanding right.I know all are diff in our veiws and sometimes we read things diff. But what I wrote came word for word most part and it just seems to me the ud and dd are what you can handle and do a long term. I know with what I have been doing and reading every day from book. those numbers that are given is just that. On dds Go lower if u can or stay with 400-500 On uds.are just to know what dd should be . Any others reading book???? I know that Im happy with ud 1200- but if and when i need more I can go higher. This site is doing pretty close to book right?Thats what I like about here. lets keep learning. But lets get some that have the bookand post what they take from it on 244-245 I think very importion for us new comers. the whole thing is to retrain our bodys to know when to stop eating and what full and not mean.Read lables and servings and write what you eat and know your calaries. Even on a ud you have to stay with in some cals.that u feel good with.Right? Good job every one on doing and learning about Juddd Kind |

Yes, I have the book, and I know that Dr. J says that we can adjust the calories to our needs. However, to average c750 cal per day, is not optimum because, as Kisha points out, how would one maintain after that? Once the body gets used to very low calories, the person will gain if eating even slightly more.
I plan to try this ONLY short term, but I also know that I will need to maintain on no more than 1200 cal per day--that's how slow my metabolism is, so these very low calories are not really that low for ME. That's why I'm not advocating this for others; this is just my individual problem. It's possible that I'll find (as retro seems to have) that this doesn't work. I'm just experimenting to try to get over a "hump." My body doesn't seem to want to go lower, and I'm trying to force the issue. I have been losing SLOWLY on about 900 cal per day, so going down to 750 is not really such a big change for me. Those of you who have not yet hit menopause, lose your weight NOW because, believe me, it's really tough after! |

Hi. Im with you on losing after you hit Menopause,{Done with it now 5 years. But I must say I went through in great and still doing well with out taking drugs.
But finding it hard to lose weight like I used to do.Right now for the next 12 weeks Im staying with what has been working for me on this plan. Then I will up some on dds to reach at one stageto 400cals. and ud highier but dont know were that will put me.on calaries. Just have to see if Im still losing in 12 weeks and if not have to do some changing some were. He also saids to pick 5 meals that you like and pretty much stay with it if u can.{I can do that but at times you just want something else and that is fine.As long as calaries are withinyour reach then still should lose.{Right}? I just think the biggest key to this and any diet is >It has to be a life time change.and pick the foods that are healthy and watch those bad fats. . I do think at least for me that when I start getting to goal and knowing what my body needs to lose weight and maintain ,that Im going stay with Juddd and Eat to live plan.{Both of those should work out great.{ Together.] also 1 day a week juice with fruits and veggs. But first thing first doing Juddd{a lone with out adding on other plans . One thing I have learned and should have done.Is That when you see a 3lb gain you better start getting back to a program and watching those cals.and exericing. Head that scale back down before it goes up.to high. One thing we all are learning and working together. But it is harder to lose weight with age and all the stuff that comes with it. Kind |

Kind you are right. When you reach goal. You should keep a close eye on your weight.
If and when it starts creeping up get back on plan or lower your calories. I should have learned that along time ago. But any way. I need to lose at least 20 more pounds. And then take a look at how I feel about things. Feeling good in ones on skin is very important. |

Hi ,Daisey.
You know I have always liked me. Maybe Not that I let self go and added more weight then I should haveOr when I got down to90-105 lbs that I let the scale just keep going up and beyond. One thing I have on my side is> That Im very healthy and Im aging very well.{Dont look my age or feel it.{Other then puting my boobs inside pants when exericing Im fine.Ha. I do know and I have said this before>Not gaining behond 3lbs and working to get body back to a great weight.Goal is to lose 25lbs.and see how things go.But right now Im losing and getting that 12lbs {Off}I put on from Vacation and holidays>I have already lost 9 1/2lbs {Only been doing this Juddd Feb11. You do have to like you before others can. We sure are all learning. It helps. Kind |

Anyone reaching ANY goal can suffer a slump afterward, if there is absence of a goal. Happens. Maybe that's why a great weight loss is so often followed by a creep back up as a person lets go of the discipline that produced weight loss.

So true Zer.We all have to learn to keep goalsand keep going forward.
I far one seems to hug that scale the whole time.[When dieting}But then when I go off diet or what I should be doing with watching weightI dont hug that scale much and the scale is way upand then I have a melt down. At least for me Im going to have to keep that scale as my best friendso it will keep me in check. But at least for me right now he is my buddy.{After dd Going in to read a mag. by health.and fitness mag. Today is such a cold snowy day. Plus Im cold{DD. Im having light soup now{100cals. and might have another soup tonight. kind |

Starting Today!!
Have only been lurking here for a week or two, but gonna try this WOE....one that I've never tried before. Wasn't sure there were any out there!
![]() A little about me...I'm 62 and have been struggling with my weight since childhood. I'm really tired of it all and it only gets harder the older you get. I also have bad osteoarthritis of my knees and now need a total knee replacement so exercising is limited to water activities for me. (I have never been good at exercise). I most recently tried Wendy Chant's Crack the Fat-Loss Code and really thought that would be my answer, BUT, as always I didn't stick with it. I know basically any "diet" works if you only stick with it. I am insulin resistant (I believe, not diagnosed) so am trying to stick to the healthy carb options....never done Atkins or really low carb but know that's one I'd never be able to stick with. JUDD appeals to me on a number of levels. I like knowing that there's nothing that I can NEVER have again....I don't do well with constant deprivation. I do think the process of carb cycling is a good one and keeps the body's metabolism shook up a little. According to the calculations I'm 2276 calories on ud and 455 on dd. I'm going to shoot for 500 calories on dd and 2000 on ud for now and see how that works. I will do dd M-W-F with ud T-Th-Sat and try to keep Sundays around 1500 calories. I was going to just start on my own and not post....but I NEED to be accountable. Just curious....how long have you guys been doing this WOE and how much have you lost in your timeframes? I'm excited about joining you today!!

Sherrie, are you also lurking at the Tweaker JUDDD thread? For folks who are tweaking their UD/DD a bit, playing with Fast5 to narrow the window for eating (as I gather from lurking and listening to how some are resetting their set point by confusing their metabolism as it attempts to adjust for this or that plan).

Best you see for yourself what results are being reported at Tweaker thread. I'm just a lurker. Not qualified to define any of the plans that many are finding useful to shake up a resistant metabolism.

Welcome Penny and Sherrie! Glad you're going to give this WOE a try. The first DD is the very hardest. I swear they get easier after that! A few of us have taken several tries to get the first succesfull DD under our belts.
Hey Soon, look... you're right! It was totally TOM. Just start over TODAY with good DD and you'll be right back on track. Congrats Dasiey & Kind on your awesome weight losses... |

Hi everyone!
I've had my first Down Day yesterday (as I've been stalled for a while) and wanted to say hi and also get some advice! ![]() So yesterday I only got down to 500 calories, but honestly I think I made the wrong choices food-wise (ie. too high fat so not much food). I ate:
It came to 502 cals and 16.5g carbs (with fiber subtraction). Anyway, I felt WEIRD! It is SO MUCH HARDER than I thought it would be! I felt short of breath and panicky and I couldn't sleep for half the night. Do you think that's normal? I kept telling myself that there was nothing wrong with having fewer calories and my body should be able to handle it easily, but it was still pretty unpleasant!! Anyone had a similar experience? Is there anything I'm doing wrong do you think? I'm hoping I was just getting used to it and tomorrow will be better! Anyway, so today my calories were a total of 2105 cals and 18.2g carbs which has been lovely, of course after yesterday! Tomorrow I'm going to try to stick to 390 cals and here is my proposed menu:
Total: 398 cals and 18.5g carbs (minus fiber). Do you think this is a good menu? Do you think it will be easier this time? Any advice/thoughts would be very much appreciated!! Thanks all! Claire

You made it through your first DD!!!! Awesome. And YES, I DO think your second menu looks much better and yes I KNOW it will be easier. The first DD is by far the hardest and they get much much easier the more of them you do. Don't forget that you can also supplement your menu with some celery or other low cal filling vegetables. I tend to do alot of low cal veg on DD. I think your menu will be much more filling than the first DD and that it will also be much easier because you have done it before! Good luck! I'm excited to hear your one week weight results (if you choose to share them) |

Thanks so much, Kisha! I'm very glad to hear you think it will get easier!
I think more veggies will help too. I'll definitely share how much I lost after the first week! I'll also pop back and let you know how DD number 2 went. Thanks again! |

Been reading on the Tweaker's board.....
I find it so interesting how everyone is doing their own thing....think we really have to do that to make it work for our individual bodies. I think for right now though, I will pretty much stick with the JUDDD plan as written with a MD on Sundays. I'm not personally going to do low carb, although I will make choices with the low glycemic scale and healthy carbs. I also think my body does better eating several times/day. Maybe I will change my mind as I go, but will stick by the plan for now and only start tweaking if I don't like my results.
I'm sure I'll have a big water weight loss this first week cause I've been really carbing up lately. I'm so sensitive to sugar and white flour....really need to stay away from it....it really fuels my cravings. Well, doing okay on DD so far....but watching TV at night is gonna be the hard part. I really get the munchies at night....any ideas? Figure I'll drink lots of hot herbal tea....that works for me sometimes. Sure glad I found this site!! |

Hi all!
So I've been doing JUDD for 2 full weeks now and I've lost 5.4 pounds! I'm thrilled since I had been at that weight for several months! Yesterday was a DD and my son and I are both very sick today so I think it's going to accidentally become another DD since I can't keep much down. Does anybody know the effects of this WOE on our metabolisms? I am scared that if I do this for a while and then go back to normal Atkins that I'll gain weight like crazy because my body is used to starving every other day. Any thoughts? |

There are some maintainers on the Tweakers thread although I think they still incorporate a couple of DD per week. The book describes maintenence as increasing calories on DD slightly... to 700 or so and leaving UDs in place. The maintainers on the tweakers thread seem to be doing well with 2-3 DD per week at slightly higher DD calories. I don't know about transitioning to just straight atkins induction... |

Thanks! So if I'm understanding correctly, Dr Johnson and Dr Atkins both want us to stay 'somewhat' on their plan forever to maintain? I mean, I think I could do Atkins for life, but I'm not sure I could do JUDD for life, even if I was able to kick my calories up to 700 calories per day. How long have you been doing JUDD? How successful have you been with it? |

Both plans are designed to be for life. All I could recommend is that once you get to goal GRADUALLY start increasing the calories on your DD until you find that you are maintaining and not losing. Then KEEP increasing them on your DD until you start gaining and not maintaining. Whatever the DD calorie level is that makes you GAIN you will need to eat below on DD to maintain. I have been on this plan since right before christmas including a break over new years and have lost seven pounds. This is close to .5 lbs per week average for me which is the most I can ever hope to lose with my messed up thyroid. |

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll do exactly that once I get closer to goal. 7 pounds is awesome, and almost 60 pounds overall is even better! |
