This place is a refuge for sure! Now for the recruiting part. I know of some other forums that have members there that might just benefit by dropping in here every now and again. I'm going to drop a few hints and see what happens... Wish me luck. Thanks for the compliment. Everyday I'm so thankful to be in my own skin and know that it's the journey that is to be enjoyed along the way. I used to really beat myself up with negative thoughts about my weight but I've gotten over that with help from prayer, family & friends. It really makes it so much easier by coming here and joining others who share so much of what we consider very important to us at this time. OK, I'm off to do more house work. Saturday's are a busy day for me with house cleaning. I like to get it all done in one day and enjoy the rest of the week in a clean house, well until around the middle of the week when it seems to all start to go down hill... Oh well, such as life. ![]()

Jen what a great story you have and you have kept off most of it. I'm sure you'll make your goal in no time.
Like you, and many others here, I've tried everything under the sun to lose weight, only to see my weight creep up with every passing year. LC has been the most effective for me, but I just cannot keep it up. A little bread here, and a little cake there, it all comes back. I've been beating myself up for too many years about not being able to stick to it. In fact, I think it's been well over 10 years that I've been trying to tackle LC! JUDDD is the perfect answer. I can try to stick to a reasonable level of LC, but a bowl of pasta isn't going to spell disaster. Maizenbluebabe - you really ARE a Wolverine (Bob Seeger!) BTW Caramel, I DID gain 1 lb today, and I'm not going to freak out. I took a look at my weekly average for calories and I might be a tad under the ideal range. I think I'm not eating enough (will wonders never cease..) So I'm really going to enjoy my UD tomorrow!! Last edited by wallaby; 01-24-2009 at 02:37 PM.. |

Hello I want to join this thread! I am doing my first fast day today and so far so good! Do you all drink diet coke or coffee on your fast day? I've had one diet coke and SF tea.
I can't do only water yet but I'm working up to it. Jan |

I probably should have entitled the subject of this thread "...& LIQUID Fasters" rather than "WATER FASTERS" If you drink it and it doesn have calories (or has very few) then I think you are doing exactly or almost the same as a water fast! Keep on keepin' on!Some peeps do find that the artificial sweetener in diet drinks slows them down or stalls them a bit but I have never had that problem. I am so impressed with your first fast day. But wow! I DID IT and lived through it And I am gonna do it again! You'll find several members here who are already experienced at various kinds of zero or very low-cal fasts and I can hardly wait for some of them to share some of their details with us. |

I love that we are on page 2 already! Yay us! lol
I am 2 pounds away from goal! Can't wait to follow Shunsweets to Maintenance Mode! I am going to try and do a liquid fast tomorrow (water, coffee and tea, close to zero calories). On my DD's I can go all day without being hungry but then i cave at night. Not due to hunger but I just feel a compulsion to eat something (100 cal popcorn for example) to keep my hands busy I guess. I am an emotional eater and I have found JUDDD to be extremely helpful in combatting this. I don't think about food as much anymore and on DD's I am free to feel my feelings other than turn to something sweet. I think the fact that I know I don't eat on DD's enables me to use other methods of coping. Wallaby - lol about going to the grocery store on a DD. I torture myself by watching The Food Network, specifically Drive-ins, diners and dives! Love that show and I drool over the greasy food! Aren't we funny! Maizenbluebabe - did you end up on the treadmill today? I skipped my workout today and yesterday because my muscles are killing from a new pilates dvd I tried out on Thursday! I am so glad to see familiar "faces" on this thread and some new people. I am also glad everyone feels comfortable to share what works and what doesn't. We are all different and I for one love to hear different things. Learning form each other and supporting each other is bound to be helpful on our journey! |

Janice, your liquid diet today made me remember this little news item I heard in early January about overeating. Below is the summary of it (from NPR). I think this article also reinforces our collective experience with JUDDD - that when you allow yourself to stop eating for awhile, you stop overeating. Maybe this diet is they key to retraining our brains and the neurological circuitry. I thought the part about cold drinks was also very interesting.
This cycle of overeating can lead to a yo-yo effect. If you consistently overeat, you'll trigger changes in your stomach, the doctor says. The neurological tissue at the top of the stomach, which signals the brain that the stomach is full, starts to malfunction. "When you overeat time and time again, this electrical conduit pathway gets tired and it doesn't tell your brain that you're full anymore," says Stiles. "It may send abnormal signals and you may not even realize you're full." If you drink lots of icy beverages with your food, the mixed messages to your body only worsen, she says. "When you drink cold liquids, your stomach will start contracting and it will massage the food that will again quickly leave [the] stomach to the rest of the gastrointestinal track." This means your stomach will be empty sooner than normal, and you will be hungrier sooner. |

Hello everyone,
Good idea Whirlybird, in dropping the hint in other forums, someone did that in December and thats why I checked this site out and immediately got hooked, I didn't know something like this existed, you know what I mean, I just never heard of it. I really feel that this is the last "diet" I'll ever be on to and Wallaby my fasts just get easier and easier and the day after I feel so cleansed. I think it is the best way to detox the body. I'm not going to do mine monday cause it's my birthday so Sunday is going to be a Mod day for me. See I tweaked already. Boy I bet that was hard grocery shopping while fasting but I should talk, I'm addicted to lurking on the lowcarb recipe thread while fasting. EdandM, wow 2 pounds from goal that must feel super, so happy for you maintenace is going to be nice. I can't wait and I really feel I'm going to make it too this time. Maizenblue I'm impressed with the first day to I feel so comfortable here and feel everyone here knows exactly what I'm feeling with the UD and DD.

water intake important to metabolism
well, I was just cruising around on a health info site and someone asked about why their metabolism might slow down and there were several possibilites listed but the following is what caught my eye:
"make sure that you drink plenty of water, as being even 1 percent dehydrated can drop metabolism significantly." Didja see that? EVEN ONE PER CENT dehydrated? Good night Tweakers. Sleep well. See you tomorrow. ![]() Last edited by maizenbluebabe; 01-24-2009 at 09:39 PM.. |

Good morning. HAPPY B-DAY CARAMEL?!! It's also my son's b-day.
I love this place! I'm holding steady on the scale. Today is UD and I'm going to try to stay up to at least 1800 cals. Yesterday was a planned MD, but then I thought maybe it should be a DD, and then I tried a water fast which lasted until about 9 p.m. when AGAIN, I caved as DH came home for dinner (I thought what the heck , I need more calories anyway...) . I still ended up with an MD, but the lesson is, tweaking is OK, but tweaking IN THE MOMENT is not. I need to write my schedule down and stick to it. Committing to it here is the best thing I've got going. So this week is M - WF, T - UD, W - DD, TH - UD, F- DD, Sa - MD, Su-UD. |

Happy Birthday Caramel!
![]() Wallaby - great plan. I am aiming for a WF today, but if I can't do it it will be DD all the same. Maizenbluebabe - great info about the water. I really don't drink enough. I get cold easily and water always makes me colder. Room temperature water is not so tasty! lol LadyWuzzy - how old is your DD? I have twin DD's who will be 3 in March and they love Max and Ruby. They even act out some of the episodes, alternating who is Ruby and who is Max! Today is DD for me and I am going to try a liquid fast, but we shall see! Have a great day Judddlets! |

EmandM, I think Caramel's birthday is tomorrow but am sure she wont mind getting good wishes from people for days and days even if not only on the exact day.
Hey, you can do it again tomorrow! In fact, we all can! ![]() (But lets' not plan to pig out on cake and ice cream when we go to her party !I was just re-reading the interesting article posted by wallaby yesterday about how we damage ourselves internally much more than we know when we overeat. And there is lots of wisdom in that. And I think there is some kind of important re-training that takes place when we fast or eat like we ought to--for nourishment, but not to the point of gluttony. Yes, I have a screwy metabolism because of my funny blood sugar ups and downs (non-diabetic so far) but I also have to admit that in the past I have certainly stuffed myself at times until I felt like groaning, so it is not just carb-sensitivity that has put this extra layer of fat on me.. The article led me to think that there is a very good reason why Gluttony is one of "The Seven Deadly Sins" and that reason may be that it actually is Deadly for many of us to eat gluttonously (too easy to do automatically in modern industrialized countries where food is so readily available.) I like being part of a thread where we can take the time and thread space to ponder these things without feeling guilty for taking the focus from a more strict interpretation of JUDDD. It's cloudy and grey here at the edge of the Blue Ridge but we will all make our own sunshine here with each other! ![]() Last edited by maizenbluebabe; 01-25-2009 at 09:05 AM.. |

Hi Maizenbluebabe:
Thanks for starting the new thread! ![]() May I just ask you to reconsider one aspect of your introductory posts? I think folks should be encouraged to read the books from which these diet plans are tweaked, not assured that reading the books is unnecessary. I find that the web sites do not necessarily cover each plan comprehensively and I would think that having a fuller understanding of the physiology involved in each plan would make for a better informed, healthier/safer tweaker. ![]() Just my 2 cents. (Which in this economy is more like 1/2 cent. )

![]() It had been my intention to say that early on in the intro posts about both men's books--and, dammit, I forgot! . I have both books myself (they are lent out right now--I HOPE I get them back!) and meant to point out that that they are inexpensive and well-worth having. (Also, I seem to recall that Herring's Fast 5 can be downloaded from the net.) Actually, I believe that neither of them started out to write a book and make money, but were nagged into it by their followers and so the plans were out in public long before the books were. YES, you are right--from the books, one gets a much better sense of the science behind intermittent fasting/eating and the little details making the plans work, but there is another aspect of this--at least--for me, and it is the moral one. We benefit from these men's research of these fields and the personal time and effort they put into developing something that we all learn from and it is only fair to be willing to pay something for that life-changing information--just as we did with Dr Atkins. So I bought the books, but my budget wasnt as tight as a lot of people are facing today and I would say: if you cant afford the books right now, dont beat yourself up over it, just use the plans and feel glad to have them. If you can afford them, they are very helpful and worth every penny. ![]() Last edited by maizenbluebabe; 01-25-2009 at 10:01 AM.. |

Wonder if anyone is using Fawn's Shake as part of their JUDDD tweaking. Quote:

Zer, Fawn is one smart cookie and I am always impressed with the thoughtfulness and knowledge shown in her posts. I cant remember for sure but seem to recall that she might be a vegetarian? If so, her NUTRITIONAL needs for the SPECIFIC CONTENTS of this kind of shake may be a bit different from someone who is an omnivore.
Also, since she has a very powerful juicing machine whch really pulverizes the veggies, etc, which go into that shake, I imagine it is quite drinkable, but I am doubtful your stick blender (I have a similar one) would break down the fibers as completely. I think this might be one of those YMMV things, but for sure what she puts into this thing is certainly healthful.. |

EDIT: Just found this in a Fawn post: "I also consume animal proteins." So I guess Fawn eats SOME critters. I rushed back to add this to my earlier post. Got back in time!!!
- - - - - Oh, is Fawn vegetarian? I didn't know. I think I'll always have fish in my life, even if I cut back on other meat. Beef seems harder for me to digest lately. I've got to read up on the JUDDD and Fast-5 and other stuff - original works - so I can lay a good foundation for what tweaking I end up doing to fit my life! We are eating much more fish in our house the past few months, too, as well as lots of chicken which we have done for years (you can do a lot with chicken but sometimes we get a bit weary of it.) Beef we dont eat a lot of anyhow --we kind of save it for now and then because we try to get the organic grassfed stuff and it is very pricey here. And when I am in Maine with my cousin in the summer, I would eat seafood 24/7 if I could because what is available in our little town of Eastport is fabulous--either it comes from the bay or else from nearby and tastes FRESH!.
